Refinery29 u no the man that was speaking in Irish is his name Mr.O'Dougherty( 3:50 ) I think he's a teacher because he taught at my school in limerick ardagh
Love the video but why call him Persian? Saying he’s Iranian will help dispel some of the stereotypes and prejudice many people have about Iran and Iranians! ❤️
Too bad this series didn't exist 10 years ago when a family friend daughter had a Chinese tea ceremony, traditional Indian wedding vows exchange ceremony and a Chinese /Indian reception . It was so beautiful and wonderfully blend of 2 cultures.
Nubianette I’m sure her family were delighted for her but the purpose of this video was to show what an Irish and Persian wedding was like when combined. I should probably point out that I am Irish and have been to plenty Irish weddings which always have a lot of food and are sometimes quite elaborate!
Nikki Mirhosseyni I'm Irish, there are many Irish Traditions. Two of which were incorporated into her wedding. She's Irish-American though so I can understand her not knowing more of them or not finding them as important as an Irish person would.
It kind of seems like the girl only wanted to do a Irish wedding because her husband was doing a Persian wedding. It looked like she googled some Irish wedding traditions and just went with the first thing she saw. Idk the bride just seems like the kind of girl to not care about her culture until her wedding pops up then to forget about all over again.
She clearly couldn't be arsed to tell the difference between an Irish sixpence and a British one, and it isn't like they're remotely similar. I'm not entirely convinced either.
I went to a Persian wedding once and it was so much fun. My favorite part of this wedding............I loved everything about it. I wish them a lifetime of happiness.
Yea and your point??? That doesn't stop anyone from being less Irish. He's Persian American, but has chosen to incorporate Persian customs in the ceremony. Being American doesn't take away from him being Persian
The sixpence stopped being legal tender in Ireland LONG before the euro was introduced. And the coin she used was an ENGLISH sixpence! Irish? Yeah, ok! 😂
An Irish wedding usually involves lots of alcohol, the brides father tying his tie round his head and someone's brothers second cousin twice removed getting in a fight!
I nearly fainted when she brought up the bit about having a baby. I was like, "you are NOT gonna announce your pregnancy right here and now, are you?!" I was so happy about the little pup.
Niamh Gibson and. She has Irish heritage. That’s like saying African American’s should adopt American traditions just because they were born and they live in America. People can be proud of there heritage.
What a lovely wedding, me commenting from Tehran; that said as far as I am concerned Kelly put so much effort into finding a family/friend who could actually say a couple of verses in Irish.....much appreciated, regardless of what some Irishmen/women may in terms of those verses being mangled Irish; give Kelly some break, for heaven's sake in the US, you can hardly find anyone aside from linguists or language junkies who would be interested in learning a second language! Cheers......all the best
Okay for the people giving her a hard time for not being from Ireland, you have to understand that for people with Irish heritage from different places the embracing of Irish culture (even though it may be heavily influenced by you're home country) is a way to honour the hardships and prejudice our ancestors faced when they immigranted, Irish immigrantion played a big part in the making of a lot of cultures (American, Australian etc) so we celebrate that, yeah sure it's no "Irish" Irish so think of it as a sub culture. (granted I do think it's annoying when American Irish talk about Irish history a.k.a The Troubles with romanticism)
I love this series they are so magical, I myself will be marrying a Bulgarian guy so I can't wait how mixing Mexican and Bulgarian traditions will come like if we decide to make a wedding party!
"Cladder ring" It's a claddagh ring, I wear one every day as a symbol of my religion and culture, all the women in my family wear them to, I really feel like none of this stuff has actual symbolism or meaning to her.
What great memories to look back on. Thank you refinery 29! You can’t have an Irish wedding in America, because then it’s an American wedding. But the point was to bring the two cultures together in a non secular way, .... and 80% of brides family lives in Ireland- including me her sister. No idea where we got the English six pence though- must of been mixed up in our jar of coins.
Thank you refinery 29! I was waiting for this video for so long!n My parents were born in Iran, I live in Australia so I’m Australian(parents persian) I have been to a few Persian weddings and could relate a lot to this, I’m not sure if this is just persian culture, but whenever people bang on there cups/glasses, the bride and groom have to kiss! This happens so many times!! Lol
Beautiful a blessing uniting cultures together into one unity of family, with common ground and respect for each others cultural traditions is a wonderful opportunity for all bringing a stronger bond into a marriage.
Putting a claddagh ring on your garter isn't the same as, you know, receiving the ring from your loved one. I feel like she just threw together some generic stuff to bolster her heritage, even if she's not fully Irish-American. Nothing against her, it just feels off-putting.
Thank you to the beautiful couple for giving an insight to the culture and traditions performed at the wedding. Wishing them a long and fruitful marriage with lots of joy and happiness.
Shea O'Sullivan . I'm from cork and I have always called it Irish and pretty much everyone does where I'm from . I only heard people use the term Gaelic when I am visiting America and Canada .
It's Irish (gaeilge is Irish for the word Irish) Gaelic is Celtic so it's basically variations of the languages that are similar like in whales Scotland and here in Ireland so saying Irish is Gaelic is basically saying it's the same as Welsh
What was your favorite part of this wedding? Comment below!
Refinery29 The surprise at the end! 🐶
The grand table arrangement
I'm having an Indian, Chinese, western wedding myself very soon :)
I don't want this series to ever end.
Exactly how I feel.
Too bad this series didn't exist 10 years ago when a family friend daughter had a Chinese tea ceremony, traditional Indian wedding vows exchange ceremony and a Chinese /Indian reception . It was so beautiful and wonderfully blend of 2 cultures.
I bet the food was amazing!!
That sounds AMAZING
this is really just a Persian wedding with some Irish things stuck to her shoe and garter?
Alana Mulligan Irish weddings aren't elaborate and have less food. Irish people like to party and eat, so I'm sure her family was happy.
Nubianette I’m sure her family were delighted for her but the purpose of this video was to show what an Irish and Persian wedding was like when combined. I should probably point out that I am Irish and have been to plenty Irish weddings which always have a lot of food and are sometimes quite elaborate!
Probably there are just few Irish traditions. We Persians are elaborate with everything.
Nikki Mirhosseyni I'm Irish, there are many Irish Traditions. Two of which were incorporated into her wedding.
She's Irish-American though so I can understand her not knowing more of them or not finding them as important as an Irish person would.
Alana Mulligan correct. There’s nothing wrong with having mixed race marriage.
Sup Ducks and the fact she said she has a tattoo in Irish....
Kelly isn’t exactly Irish she’s an America of Irish descent
Yea and your point??? That doesn't stop anyone from being less Irish. He's Persian American, but has chosen to incorporate Persian customs in the ceremony. Being American doesn't take away from him being Persian
Then the guy isn't exactly Persian; He's American of Persian descent
She called it Irish language not even Gaelic. Still a beautiful wedding though
Sssssh let people enjoy things
Bogie Z bruh this is my cousin
Seem like a nice couple & but this isn’t anything like an Irish wedding.
Sarah McGurn it isn't exactly a Persian wedding either, we are way more extra haha
Tala Arezoumand Haha! It looks like a fab day though, but Irish weddings are a little bit different. 😏
Sarah McGurn remember it's a fusion of two cultures.
Ana Smith Oh I know. The Irish bits just aren’t overly like an Irish wedding.
Maybe it is more Irish/American.
The sixpence stopped being legal tender in Ireland LONG before the euro was introduced. And the coin she used was an ENGLISH sixpence! Irish? Yeah, ok! 😂
In case you're wondering that language the guy in the blue suit was speaking was (slightly mangled) Irish!
An Irish wedding usually involves lots of alcohol, the brides father tying his tie round his head and someone's brothers second cousin twice removed getting in a fight!
snoop was the best part hands down
I nearly fainted when she brought up the bit about having a baby. I was like, "you are NOT gonna announce your pregnancy right here and now, are you?!" I was so happy about the little pup.
I love the combination of different cultures .. it’s so beautiful 💛 #UnityInDiversity
The Persian aspects of this wedding were beautiful and inspiring.
Kelly is not Irish, she is Pinterest

I absolutely love this series but THE PUPPY OH MY GOD IT WAS SO CUTEEEEE
She's AMERICAN
AMERICAN
Irish American culture is so weird but most of all they manage to oppose it upon us in Ireland ...
I know. It bothers me
Meant to write ***impose here ffs
Niamh Gibson and. She has Irish heritage. That’s like saying African American’s should adopt American traditions just because they were born and they live in America. People can be proud of there heritage.
Kelly is a not a real Irish, shes American of Irish descent. Like I'm proper Irish and ive never heard of any of this stuff
I haven't either Aisling. And I've been to a fair few Irish weddings in my time!
do ya'll see the amount of love in their eyes for each other? I'm weepingggg
If you want to see a really cool wedding, try Greek Orthodox weddings!
Through these series I’m learning why people get married. Its really nice to see how different cultures can come together!
سلام من ازتون درخواست کمک دارم
I like that she stuck true to herself and didn’t convert for him. I like that he accepts her as her own culture.
3:19 did he not know about that tattoo? lol he looks shocked and horrified.
Ok I’m from Iran but I’m not Persian but have been to plenty Persian weddings and THEY ARE CRAZY , LIKE THE DANCING IS CRAZY-
She got on my nerves so fast.
What a lovely wedding, me commenting from Tehran; that said as far as I am concerned Kelly put so much effort into finding a family/friend who could actually say a couple of verses in Irish.....much appreciated, regardless of what some Irishmen/women may in terms of those verses being mangled Irish; give Kelly some break, for heaven's sake in the US, you can hardly find anyone aside from linguists or language junkies who would be interested in learning a second language! so is it just me or are they just showing "rich" couples in this wedding series?
Merve Ciftci I think only most rich couples can afford to have such opulent weddings, and are blessed enough to represent their culture in this way.
They're the ones that can afford to go the full mile and celebrate everything their culture has to offer.
Merve Gezer Well I think that a lot also start to save money very early for their future wedding and sometimes the family pays for the wedding.

Wow Persian weddings are beautiful. The symbolism is beauts
"Cladder ring"
It's a claddagh ring, I wear one every day as a symbol of my religion and culture, all the women in my family wear them to, I really feel like none of this stuff has actual symbolism or meaning to her.
I think she actually got her first claddagh ring when she was 13 from her grandmother who lives in limerick so that’s weird

+chareenkauazunda Thank you for watching!!
as an Irish person, nothing annoys me more.. she’s AMERICAN
taraelizabeth _ me too
Oh shut it.
taraelizabeth _ same shes probably like I’m 1/16 irish
Not all Irish people look the same !
Not every Irish person is a leprechaun
This wedding event is very unique and expensive and they also have lots of cultural fusion.
Why do you guys keep showing fourleaf clovers? It is shamrocks for Ireland.
What great memories to look back on. Thank you refinery 29!

Well she's obviously an American who is 'Irish' 🙄 because none of this stuff is anything to do with Irish culture or wedding traditions.
Irish and Iranians look alot alike! much blessings
I love all the small additions to the ceremony. Gorgeous

Her accent is pretty weird for being Irish though...
It’s not an Irish accent
She’s American Irish.
It’s a similar culture but also not
her ethnicity is irish.
Pia Lorena just because she doesn’t have and Irish accent doesn’t mean she isn’t Irish. She’s Irish American.
That’s probably because she’s American ?...
His 'wait what' when she speaks of growing their family is the funniest thing!
i want to see a greek orthodox wedding!!

am i the only person here who was triggered when she said she had a tattoo in 'irish'? last time i checked it was Gaelic
I am from Ireland and living in Ireland . And nobody's call it Gaelic. We call it Irish or gaelaige
Emer Byrne wait rly? My dad and grandma/ both their whole families (different sides) have always called it Gaelic. They’re from Kerry and Galway
Shea O'Sullivan . I'm from cork and I have always called it Irish and pretty much everyone does where I'm from . I only heard people use the term Gaelic when I am visiting America and Canada .
three of my grandparents are from galway - it's called irish
It's Irish (gaeilge is Irish for the word Irish) Gaelic is Celtic so it's basically variations of the languages that are similar like in whales Scotland and here in Ireland so saying Irish is Gaelic is basically saying it's the same as Welsh
