If this is in fact the case, it Hopefully means that after the dlc drops there will be a greater focus on improving the base game. We have to be hopeful for reworks but we’ll see I suppose.
I miss Saltspray Rig. Sure, it could be infuriating sometimes, but it was just a fun casual map! Fun fact: Salmonids already jump at the player if they go a certain number of game ticks without being able to reach a player via pathfinding. I've had a Cohock jump up and knock me off a Fishstick Tower before.
I would change the high tide for Salmon Run but despite that, all your works was amazing! I really likes your ideas and more the Salmon Run ones. The map looks good on both, There is no was Nintendo make this map worst than the original.... No like the other 2 jajajajaja
I had a dream like a year ago that I was playing Saltspray but they added a whole bunch of paths everywhere. Similar to the narrow paths in the middle of the stage. There was a ton of them and they led to all over the stage and you could jump from path to path. It was really fun and eversince I've wished we've had a map like that.
It's interesting that from looking at the comments, this map was actually kinda fun to play in casual turf war, meanwhile it was one of the worst in ranked modes,.. I wonder how many other stages are there that are like this, better at being a Turf War map than one or any of the other Ranked modes such as Tower control, Rainmaker, Clams and Zones.
It'd probably top the list of most liked turf war maps and maps for casual play in general. If you were there back then you would know everyone LOVED this map. That said it did not work in ranked more obviously
I think for splatzones as awful as it would be, having a zone in the bottom box (with added cover) and a zone in the top box needing a split front would be a interesting wrench into the normal splatzone plans needing higher mobility
I spent so much time on Rig through 1v1ing my brother in battle dojo by having infinite overtime, was a lot of fun. Definitely has issues in proper matches though. Of course, nintendo won't do anything like this. They don't care that their maps are actively killing the game's fun for everyone too. Which is painful.
With the continued lack of good map design, I'm guessing when and if this stage returns, it'll either have almost 0 changes save for some inexplicably removed cover Or They'll just remove the top and bottom sections
Yeah kinda, but only because Splatoon 3 barely makes any use of the mechanic, because the way the maps are designed makes the new respawning nearly pointless when it could have been a lot more useful.

Here’s a fun way to rework rainmaker: have the rainmaker start on the bottom platform, have the two teams race to the checkpoint in the middle section, and then finish the game in the big area. It could be way more fun considering the only rainmaker strategy is to get it into the other teams base and it’ll be the only rainmaker stage with this king of the hill style approach. Competitive, absolutely not. But it could be tons of fun.
I have fond memories of Saltspray from back in the day, mostly for the crane and how fun it was to paint the narrow paths with a roller. God help you if you were on the losing side though. Fortunately I frequently got lucky on which side I’d spawn from when playing this stage. I was significantly less lucky regarding Walleye Warehouse; getting boxed by the other team in Splatoon 1 Walleye was NOT fun.
I never played the first Splatoon so I have no direct experience with Saltspray Rig, but having both tangentially and, as of Splatoon 3, directly experienced the series, it's gameplay, and understanding the issues poor stage design can have, I can see in retrospect just how awful Saltspray's design was. All that being said though, *_WOW_* is this a fantastic redesign of the stage! It actually looks much more balanced and fun than it's original counterpart, and, as someone who plays a ton of Salmon Run, a SR version of this stage also sounds very fun.
Omg I love this new layout I really hope this happens though it most likely won't. That salmon run layout is really good too. If it comes back like this, I will cry with happiness
Okay cool idea: they introduce Saltspray Rig _as a Big Run_ and then the Salmonids _win_ which "turns it into a salmon run stage" even though it wasn't non-salmon-run to begin with.
thank you for making this video. I have wanted salt spray rig to come back for a very long time now. But the second I say that people have a tendency of ignoring the fact that it can be changed to not have the same type of lay out.I mean mahi mahi is completely different I don't see why they can't do that for this stage as well (only try to make it good).I love this stage aesthetically but I think it would be nicer with a Fresh coat of paint If it were truly up to me though I would have it come back as a Big Run stage 1st then after the event it would be available in regular modes. Literally taking back the stage from the salmon
Nintendo has saying how the game is designed I love these maps and the game is growing and getting better. If prochara wad in charge he would make the maps better and the weapons worse and have more umbrellas brushes and rollers these weapons do make splatoon stand out but it's still a shooter so their has to be guns rapid fire, shot gun pistols, chargers, and duelies. Can this community let people love maps even if it's a guilty pleasure this games community is less toxic and less annoying then smash but it's picking up a very similar behavior.
I remember when the tower path was even worse, starting at the bottom of mid near the elevators. If you thought Blackbelly RM was bad, old Saltspray TC was a free KO for the team that won the first fight with no contest.
As he said in the intro this is one of the most liked and popular maps when it comes to casual play and turf war. It would probably top popularity polls. Don't feel bad for liking it. That said it is obviously very bad for competitive play and it was quickly removed from competitive play by Nintendo since the map varriants were kind of scuffed to say the least
Um'ami ruins, undertow, and brinewater are great maps. You guys seem to have problems if some says this game has great maps and you all act like jerks about defend yourselves with "I want Nintendo to do better" Nintendo didn't make this game for hard core gamers to ne a esports even if this game has a really big esports scene with a lot of events and has a pretty good price pole
@@Kit_splat I'm calling them great because I think their great your in the middle of my opinion. Can the gaslighting it's like your saying "your not allowed to have a opinion on maps"
The rework that keeps Saltspray Rig's crane is something I wanted to have when it gets ported in another Splatoon game. Remove many things (mostly being Saltspray Rig's competitive and casual flaws in map design), but not one of the most fun and memorable hazards of the map, the Crane.
Knew it was Salty spray before clicking on. My friend & I did not take this one seriously when we played like it's interesting in turf war, I've had a lot of fun on it in turf war but splat zones is HELL! Not playing a charger? You're not playing, sorry. We had our nights where we'd drink while on a Skype/Discord call (2016 is when we officially switched over to Discord) & since we were drinking, we typically stuck to turf war to be respectful because we got really stupid on these nights. It was usually after I had a stressful day at work since I was working at an after school center at the time. Whenever Saltspray Rig was in rotation for splat zones, we'd be like, "want to constantly get splatted over & over by chargers while on the cider?" Of which yes, it is more funny than frustrating when you go in knowing what will happen & you've had a little bit to drink. I'm in my 30's now btw, don't worry, I was old enough at the time & my friend is even older than me. I hate this map but I also love it, had some of the best & worst of times on it. Love the reworked map, it gives multiple routes that work, I love multiple paths & that's a positive with that stage for me but I always felt as though I could easily get locked out of playing so I have been a little salty on the structure of it because it's fun in its design which is what I like but I've had so many unplayable matches on it. One thing I've done is played N-Zap 89 on the stage & focused on getting my sprinkler up on the moving crane grate thingy & then go off, getting my ink strikes so I could defend that middle area without being in it. Unsure if it's like this for others but it was always easier for me to pay attention to the map when it was on the game pad, I struggle these days to look at it because it takes up your screen & you need to see what's going on & with the game pad, I could pay attention to the screen & the map at the same time but I think that's just a me problem. I had no issue with seeing if the opposing team were making their way to the crates back there so I was like, gonna pop an ink strike there & continue on my merry way. Sometimes when I was playing a different weapon on the stage, I'd go with something that has seekers, my personal favorite sub. In turf war, I'd typically ink up that entire back crate area & then defend it by sticking at the one area you can get into it from & launching seekers at people. This is one of the few times my aggressive side came out, I use to be a more passive player although one thing I love about seekers is that they did the work for me. If they happened to bring Saltspray Rig back in with a similar look to the redesign shown, I could do the same thing but with autobombs & hey, means I can play the N-Zap 89 for that, kinda funny how my favorite main weapon from the first game ended up with my favorite sub from the second game, I just didn't like the special in the second because it felt too broken, I even have a clip on my switch from splatfest on Moray Towers where & totally wiped out the other team because three of them were making their way up our side of the tower & I was going up their side, got my special, launched missiles over to the three on our end & got them all, then got the one guy defending their side with my N-Zap so yeah, was NOT a fan of it in the second game & it's partially why I only have like 300 hours dedicated to 2 when I bought it on launch. I have already exceeded that in 3 so it's clear how I felt about 2. N-Zap 89 is about exactly how I like it in 3 & I'd be super excited about bringing that onto a newly redesigned Saltspray Rig.
Here’s how I would fix the map in the thumbnail: make it do that the walls all around the map can be climbed by the other team in some way shape or form, be it sponges, or inkable walls, or whatever works. Basically what we want to do is keep the backliners guessing where the enemy will be and not just watching the same angle.
I have a spreadsheet for my thoughts on Big Run variations of stages, and previously, it was sat at E. Due to this video, I'm gonna have to rethink it over. Probably gonna go to an A, A- minimum.
I may be wrong, but I don't even think anything special would have to be done for the crates on the Salmon Run variant. I believe if all active players are somewhere Salmonids can't walk to, like on a fish stick, lesser Salmonids will start climbing the walls. In fact, Saltspray high tide would be a great way to show off this wall climbing since its usually very rare.
Literally everything about these theoretical changes filled me with hype like this map was actually coming back; I lowkey miss Saltspray so seeing how it could be improved fills me with immense joy lmao.
Terrible overall stage. But at least it could be fun. This is what splatoon 3 maps are lacking in, and why i dislike them more than slatspray. Saltspray can be fun and chaotic casually and for fun. But what fun do you have fighting in hallways and maps with like 0 mobility options and blockades everywhere (no paintable walls)? Nothing. I'd rather play saltspray anyday over new mahi mahi, hammerhead, mincemeat, eeltail.
I honestly LOVE Saltspray Rig the way it was and don’t think it needs to be reworked. It’s already better than most of Splatoon 3 and, with the old Ink Missile special, you could literally hit anywhere on the map with your Wii U Pad. That made the big square at the top the easiest place to take over to win.
as bad as saltspray was, it was one of my favourites back in the splat 1 days, i really hope it comes back in some way, that salmon run version looks amazing too
For the elevators - why not just make them fan operated? I think we all - casual and competitive - want more single player mode features in maps, and fan operated moving platforms are a single player mode feature that used to be on some PvP maps that S3 doesn't currently have.
Thank you Chara, for showing everyone here why OG saltspray was the perfect map in Splatoon history. Petition for saltspray to return in splatoon 3 with 0 chnages or fixes through the game’s lifespan

the elevators could just be reworked with a fan to shoot to make it rise like that salmon run map
I couldn’t ignore the middle of the map staring into my soul 💀
It ain't Big Run anymore
_Now its Rig Run_
Okay cool idea: they introduce Saltspray Rig _as a Big Run_ and then the Salmonids _win_ which "turns it into a salmon run stage" even though it wasn't non-salmon-run to begin with.
Ah, Saltspray Rig. Squid rolling off into the low ground sounds so much fun.
I honestly forgot the shipment area existed.
thank you for making this video. I have wanted salt spray rig to come back for a very long time now. But the second I say that people have a tendency of ignoring the fact that it can be changed to not have the same type of lay out.I mean mahi mahi is completely different I don't see why they can't do that for this stage as well (only try to make it good).I love this stage aesthetically but I think it would be nicer with a Fresh coat of paint
If it were truly up to me though I would have it come back as a Big Run stage 1st then after the event it would be available in regular modes. Literally taking back the stage from the salmon
One note: You forgot to add gushers that are visible during high tide
I think one more change to the salmon run that is having the crane have not a graded platform inkabal
Nintendo should hire you guys instead and fire the one(s) who creates the stages now lmao.
Credits to the editor once again sneaking in Omega Strikers music
I remember when the tower path was even worse, starting at the bottom of mid near the elevators. If you thought Blackbelly RM was bad, old Saltspray TC was a free KO for the team that won the first fight with no contest.
I remember this being one of the most iconic and memorable stages, and one i had a lot of fun on!
But yeah. Uh. Its clearly very flawed
… when I played splat 1 I didn’t even learn the stage’s layout, probably because it hardly ever got used.
This is so cool, It would be good for the game if the other S3 stages ware good but they aren’t
@@maplemiles3381 objectively brine, um ami and undertow are not great, it is your opinion so don’t call them great, call them good for you.
@@Kit_splat I'm calling them great because I think their great your in the middle of my opinion. Can the gaslighting it's like your saying "your not allowed to have a opinion on maps"
@@maplemiles3381 I’m allowing you to say your opinions but be specific when it’s specifically yours, now get out of my notifications please
I loved Saltspray. It was a bad map but i loved playing on it.
N-Zap 89 is about exactly how I like it in 3 & I'd be super excited about bringing that onto a newly redesigned Saltspray Rig.
renders for this would be sickkk
I just logged onto RUclips just to see one of your videos and this comes out!
this map always takes me back to my first time playing splatoon during global testfire
This is why I think both of you should work on custom maps for Splatoon one either casually for turf war and competitively for ranked
I NEVER knew about those elevators before, those sound so broken lol
I absolutely loved Saltspray when I was a kid playing Splatoon 1, don't you dare ever hate on my baby again
I have a spreadsheet for my thoughts on Big Run variations of stages, and previously, it was sat at E. Due to this video, I'm gonna have to rethink it over. Probably gonna go to an A, A- minimum.
The more I look at SR Saltspray the more I want to play on it, damn
I WANT TO PLAY THIS MAP SO MUCH
I couldn't help but laugh at how bad this stage was it's hilarious, miss Splatoon
Why couldn't crableg capital have a crane of fun 😢
Honestly, the original could be a great tricolor map almost as is with defenders all starting at the top with the crane.
But can we agree that it would work really well as a tricolor map?
I actually had the idea that saltspray as a tricolor map could be cool
Defense spawns up top by the crane, offense teams at usuals
the blooper has shoes..
as bad as saltspray was, it was one of my favourites back in the splat 1 days, i really hope it comes back in some way, that salmon run version looks amazing too
I loved this map as a kid
It was great for turf war
For the elevators - why not just make them fan operated? I think we all - casual and competitive - want more single player mode features in maps, and fan operated moving platforms are a single player mode feature that used to be on some PvP maps that S3 doesn't currently have.
Once again, im early! Yipe! I love ur videos so much
Thank you Chara, for showing everyone here why OG saltspray was the perfect map in Splatoon history.
Petition for saltspray to return in splatoon 3 with 0 chnages or fixes through the game’s lifespan
