  • Do you know how to replace an Epson T1881 printhead? If your printer has poor printing quality and regular cleaning and flushing don't work, you may consider replacing the whole printhead. The T1881 is widely used in many Epson WorkForce modes. The procedure in this video applies to WF-7710, WF-7720, WF-7110, WF-761,0 WF-7620, WF-3620, and WF-3640. These printers use T252 or 252 cartridges. The same printhead is used in WF-3720, WF-3730, and WF3740, but the replacement procedure is different.

Kevin, I discovered what I did that caused my WF 7710 to malfunction (see my comments just below) after I completed my inkjet print head replacement. Anyone might easily do as I did and get the same problem. There is a transparent strip of plastic, about 5mm wide that runs the length of the cartridge carrier path. The cartridge carrier has a sensor looking at this strip as the carrier moves. When I did my head removal and replacement, I got smudges of ink on this plastic strip. This caused the failure of the printer to initialize resulting in a 000031 error. Cleaning off the ink smudges from the plastic strip solved the problem. Thanks again for your excellent video.

Thanks for sharing. There is another cause for 000031, which is the cap station (waste tank assembly) stuck to the bottom of the printhead carriage. I have a video here: ruclips.net/video/-DvsptHbY1w/видео.html

Hey Kevin, my WF-3640 stopped printing so I ordered the cleaning solutions, did all the cleaning, still clogged nozzles. Tried cleaning the nozzles multiple times. Finally I ordered my printhead replacement, followed your directions to a T, put it back together and holy cow, it worked! Thanks for your help!

Thank you Kevin at BCH! This is a great video. I followed it to the letter and replaced my 7720 printhead with one that I purchased from AliExpress as a new printhead. After I replaced the printhead, I turned on the printer and got the "print head might need maintenance" message". pressed "OK" and it continued just fine. Sadly the printer didn't print a single line when I did a nozzle check and then a print head cleaning. I did the nozzle check twice and nothing changed. I am no longer getting the 00031 error but I suspect that the "new" printhead is really just bypassing that error somehow, however, I will let the printer sit overnight and hopefully it will work. Even if it does not work, this video is an excellent reference guide to those needing technical repairs and maintenance. Thank you again. I appreciate the help.

I’m having this same issue. I didn’t replace the print head but I took it all apart to give it a deep cleaning. Set the print head to the side and didn’t touch it. But I was getting black and yellow to print before. Now that I’ve put it all back together I’m getting no ink at all. Hopefully I can refollow this video and get it to work

My cyan print head clogged, and I followed these instructions for removing and replacing my print heads.. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your clarity in taking this apart and putting it back together. I did have a little difficulty initially where I was getting an error and the whole unit wouldn't re-set once I turned it on, but I took it apart again (so much easier the second time), double checked everything was attached and seated, and actually had to do this a few times, until finally it took! Not sure what I did the fourth time vs the first, but hey. It worked.
For those who are cleaning a print head instead of replacing it, I had to run maintenance about four or five times before I started getting ink again. Woohoo!! Glad to have my printer back and to not have to replace it now. Only had this printer a year! My Canon printheads NEVER clogged (in literally ten years of usage of the same machine), but I've always heard Epsons can be prone to clogging. Guess I've just found out how true that is!
Thanks again for this video! It really helped!

I did have to run the printer through a couple cleaning cycles but after that, only the black was printing the test pattern. One of my cartridges was low so I replaced it. The printer went through the cycle of preparing the ink system and after that was complete, all colors printed.

For people who have the wf-7010, it is a little different (less parts to remove)but the similarity is the contact tab (or holder board) removal on 4:04 or 4:06 (and pause it) but on both sides (plastic pointing up with a little tab on top). I wished you showed the tab a bit longer to see. It is the top part of the tab that needs to be pushed in on both sides which is hard to see if you are looking at it from the top. The wire tape needs to be remove on the right side first or else it is on the way and cannot slide upwards. I had a hard time discovering it that I like to at least tell other people who likes to replace or clean their Printhead on wf 7010. Ones the tab is removed, it is pretty self explanatory removing the printhead with 3 screws.

Hello how can i replace the 3 pin FFC underneath the starwheel. I already disassemble my EPSON 7710 printer, thanks to your tutorial. I bought the cable on your BCH website. As of now, the printhead is still stuck on the right corner. I dont know if there are some screws to remove underneath the printer head for me to remove the starwheel cover.

Thank you for subscribing and for your support! Every subscriber really helps me get closer to my goal of 100K-after 8 years, I’m halfway there, and I truly appreciate you being part of this journey. I’m glad the tutorial helped you disassemble your EPSON 7710 so far.
To unlock the printhead carriage, you can try rotating the paper feed rod counterclockwise, which should release it. Alternatively, you can power the printer on and then unplug it as soon as the printhead begins to move to the left. This will allow you to access the starwheel cover. Once the carriage is free, you’ll need to remove the screws on both sides of the starwheel. After that, you can easily replace the 3-pin FFC cable.
If you run into any issues or need further clarification, feel free to email me directly at **support@bchtechnologies.com** for a quicker response. I do my best to answer subscriber comments within 48 hours, but I get a lot of questions and sometimes fall behind. Thanks again for watching, and good luck with the repair!

Thank you for subscribing and for your kind words! I’m thrilled you find the videos helpful-every subscriber is so important to me as I work toward that big 100K milestone. I’ve spent 8 years getting halfway there, and your support means everything.
The Error 000021 you’re seeing usually points to a "CR PID overload error." This happens when the printer sends power to the carriage return motor but doesn’t get any signals back from the CR encoder sensor. The encoder sensor reads the marks on the CR timing scale (or the clear belt, as some call it), and if the belt is out of place, the printer won’t function properly.
Since you just cleaned the printhead, it’s likely that the clear belt was displaced during reassembly. Double-check that the belt goes through the “little tunnel” located at the back of the carriage return. If it’s misaligned, the motor can’t track movement, triggering the error. Once you get the belt back in place, your printer should start working again.
If you’re still having trouble or need a quicker response, feel free to email me directly at support@bchtechnologies.com. I try to answer subscriber questions within 48 hours, but I get a lot of messages, so I appreciate your patience. Thanks again for supporting the channel! I hope you’ll be back up and printing soon.

After a print head short on my WF-7720, I ordered new printhead and cables from AliXpress as it was the only place I could find that would send them to New Zealand. I fixed the fuse one the mainboard, and reassembled with new parts, and the machine makes it look like it's printing, but fires nothing at the page. The new head does have ink in it, as I can take it out, and blot it to check.
So I disassembled the old print head and cleaned, dried that, and put it back in. That throws an error 34503, which I cannot find any useful information on.
Stuck with an expensive lump of e-waste. The nearest agent is over 2 hours drive away, which at current fuel prices is more than the printer is worth!
What do I do? Buy a Brother?

034503 MEANING=" Contact error at I/S clutch operation" DESCRIPTION="E Ink system failure". It is an ink system failure. You probably pulled out the ink contact cable while installing the printhead.

Kevin, thank you for your great videos. I my WF 7720 printed a white sheet. Online said it was the main board. I have switched out main board and when I took out print head it was saturated with in. I let it set in alcohol and it seemed to clean it out. I had already order one when I discovered this. Today I hooked up everything and absolutely no power. I switched outlets and did basic checks. Can you please help me??!?! Thank you sir.

Thank you so much for subscribing and supporting the channel - your engagement really helps us get closer to our 100k goal! Based on what you described, seeing all three colors on the tissue usually means the nozzles aren’t clogged, but if no ink comes out in the printer, the internal elements of the cartridge may be damaged from overheating. Unfortunately, this isn’t something that can be fixed, as the heating element inside the cartridge is likely compromised. I’d recommend replacing the cartridge. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out at support@bchtechnologies.com - subscriber questions are a priority, and I aim to respond within 48 hours. Hi Kevin, I had a WF3620 Epson printer. Days ago the message 0x97 was shown to indicate the clogged printer head. I followed your instructions, took out the printer head and soak in the water, also clean it with clean liquid. But after I installed back, I even changed a set of new ink(remanufactured one), it turned out print blank page. What did I do next? No any error msgs were shown.

Thanks for watching and following along! It sounds like you did everything right with the cleaning and reinstalling, but if you're not getting any ink at all, there might be an air gap in the ink lines or the capping station isn’t sealing properly.
Try manually priming the printhead by using a syringe to gently pull ink through the nozzles via the waste line. If you feel no resistance or only air comes through, the printhead might not be seated correctly, or there’s a leak in the capping station. If you feel full resistance, the capping station could be clogged. You can also check for any bent or misaligned dampers that might be blocking ink flow.
If nothing seems to work, it could be a deeper issue with the printhead itself. Let me know how it goes, and if you're still stuck, feel free to reach out at support@bchtechnologies.com for more detailed troubleshooting. I appreciate your patience and hope we can get it printing again!

I followed your very clear instructions, got everything back together but now when the printer starts up, in the initial sequence of operation, the cartridge carriage moves to the far left, there is the sound of gears not meshing and the printer faults indicating a "error 31". I see what looks like a tiny LED opening at the far right of the printer that might be for carriage alignment purposes. I suspect that I have altered the carriage alignment and the LED is not able to see what it should see. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately my black nozzle "nipple" on my epson wf7620 broke off.
Could I possibly super glue it back on if done carefully?
I was thinking I could hold it where it needs to go and only glue the outside edge of the "nipple" so glue would not get inside of the inks pathway.
Please let me know what you think!

Hi Kevin, i followed your instructions but when I completed the installation of the new printhead nothing printed. I went through the printhead nozzle check and the printhead cleaning process, but the printer failed to print. I went back into the printhead and checked the cables to make sure i put them in with the blue sides facing upwards, made sure the printhead was level and tightly installed, made sure the ink board was installed properly. Still I get nothing to print. Any ideas what I might have done wrong or what I should check?

Hi Kevin, Your videos are the best when it comes to Epson.
Recently I acquired an Epson WF7620 Printer, and heads are clean and nozzle checks gives proper results and am using original cartridges. I use Windows 10 for most tasks.
But the sad thing is that after multiple cleaning cycles, in vertical alignment test (black small squares #1, #2 #3 lines) they always leaves white gaps, in all options. With color it is always fine. Is this a driver issue or hardware problem? I am so frustrated with it, is there a solution to it?

One year later, I'm back. Apparently all replacement heads are not the same. I ordered one for $60, (Epson charges $250) it says made in China on it which must be where Epson sources its heads, and looks identical to the original. When I installed it, I got a prompt that the head had been replaced and to do a nozzle check. When attempting a nozzle check, I was given a error 031008. I took the head out, checked the cables and positioning, put the head back in and made sure the ink tanks were seated and the contacts on them clean. No change, still error 031008. Thinking that my Epson WF7710 might be able to detect a non-Epson-supplied head, I reinstalled the original head. No error. Now I must pay the same amount for a replacement head as I paid for the printer? It sure looks that way.
