The history of this building doesn't end on the day of it's construction. Muslim and Greek Orthodox pasts only enrich it. Turkey has been a wonderful custodian of the Hagia Sophia in the past, I continue to hope they will be in the future.

If I'm not mistaken, the first minaret (the brick one) was built close to when Constantinople was captured by Sultan Mehmet II in 1453. Another was constructed in the early 16th century by Sinan (a famous Islamic architect), and two more at later points in time. So they're all a bit different. Apparently they serve more than aesthetic function, interestingly, as their weight acts as another buttress against the weight of the domes on the walls. This was a real problem with the Hagia Sophia historically as the dome had already caved in twice(?).

I built the same church 6 months ago, and you've done so many things I didn't think of, but also a lot similar! Looks like you used the same scale as me, too! Really fun to see. I made the exterior white though. I made the older version long before it became a mosque.
Funny thing is I study art history and have written about Hagia Sophia extensively.

to everyone thinkng this beautiful building belongs solely to their country, it doenst. It isnt greek or byzantian, not Turkish or Ottoman.The then called Romans built it, the Ottomans repaired and expanded it and Atatatürk made it a Museum. Now its a Mosque again, so its owned by god (or Allah) wich is the point of Churches or holy houses.

@@bobandy7279 You are absolutely right. Its origin is a church or cathedral. But after Ottomans conquered Constantinople it
converted a grand mosque. It used be church and mosque for very long times. But Mustafa Kemal thinks like you. Hagia Sofia is important structure for both Christians and Muslims. Each side wants to used be for their religions. To find suitable status for each side, only way it become a museum. And it turned into a museum in 1934-1935 and it was a museum until this days. Today's Turkish goverment is conservative, Neo-Ottomanist, racist, Islamist (only for their benefit.). They were selected for long time because %50 of Turkish people are conservative. They are losing votes in last 3 years. The people who vote for them are poverty, worsening living conditions, etc. gives up voting for reasons. The way to bring them back is to act Islamist. So long story short, RTE (President) made Hagia Sophia a mosque. The fun fact is he said this 9 months ago:
“This work has a political dimension side. You will not fill Sultanahmet (Mosque next to Hagia Sophia) on the this side, you will say, "Let's fill the Hagia Sophia". We built the Great Camlica Mosque, it will make 4-5 Hagia Sophia. Let's not come to these games. All those who sell are loomer. We know very well what and how to do it. This is dishonorable. We don't turn Hagia Sofia to mosque. (Sorry for my bad English. I may have made mistakes.)

But you have to attention for some taxi drivers and restaurants. Most of restaurants and taxi drivers haven't any respect for foreign tourists. They always try to sell anything expensive to foreign tourists. Normally many taxi drive costs 20-100 TL but they take much more many from tourists. If anybody try this terrible thing you must get off this person and place.
