  • Why so serious? Whether it's a health issue, an environmental issue, or a geopolitical issue, there are a lot of things out there that are more serious than people realize. The problem is that quite often we are focused on the wrong ones. Everybody thinks that terrorism is the biggest threat facing their well-being when in reality it's the sugar drink in their hand! These are 25 things that are a lot more serious than people think.
    25 Things That Are A Lot More Serious Than People Think | List25
    Stress - This can cause major problems and greatly decrease your quality of life.
    Concussions - You could have one and not even know.
    Arthritis - Yes, your grandma may complain about it, but it’s more serious than you could imagine.
    Power tools - There are warning labels for a reason.
    Group think - It’s like a terrible version of a flash mob.
    Psychological abuse - Which is worse, physical or psychological abuse? Watch to find out.
    Antibiotic resistance - We’re building a tolerance, and that’s not good.
    Owning dogs - Too many people get dogs without being ready for them.
    Diabetes - We may joke about “diabeetus” but it’s more serious than that.
    Dental hygiene - Dentures aren’t fun.
    Depression - You can’t just “feel happier”
    Being alone - Without even a volleyball to keep you company.
    Sleep - There’s a reason 8 hours a night is suggested.
    Texting while driving - Is it worth the risk to send that text?
    Ocean acidification - Just look at the Great Barrier Reef.
    The number of prisoners in America - America ranks high, and that’s no joke.
    The bee die-off - You’re gonna miss them when they’re gone.
    Mass paranoia - This kind of goes along with Group Think, in a more severe manner.
    Human trafficking - The fact that this is still going on is just awful.
    OCD - A lot of people THINK they have it, but for those that do, it’s no laughing matter.
    Added sugar - It’s in more things than you think.
    Sitting - You’re probably doing this right now.
    Suicide - “Suicide is Painless” could not be more wrong.
    Diet - You don’t want to pay for it when you’re older.
    Melanoma - It’s so simple to prevent. Just do it!

    Sun burn causes cancer, sunscreen causes cancer, and staying inside causes cancer. What am I supposed to do?

    • @friendlyheavy4297
      @friendlyheavy4297 7 лет назад +8

      Do the one that is least harmful ofcourse
      Sun is the most harmful.
      Sunscreen is 2nd most harmful
      and staying inside is 3rd
      unless you like NEVER go out which is actually impossible since you need to shop for stuff
      So yeah.. ''staying inside'' is best option.

    ah finally someone with the sense to realize the difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes and the decency to clarify their mistake about not stating the type. The amount of times I get told my diabetes is my fault, or you don't look like a diabetic because of misinformation, thank you so much for adding that editors note, it made my day!

      I have Type 1 diabetes,I was diagnosed two months ago. We found out after I spent three or more months losing hair, losing weight and dealing with severe amounts anxiety and stress.

    • @Zenith_95
      @Zenith_95 2 года назад

      I don't wanna sound stupid, but what is the difference? Is Type 1 caused by genetics or from birth and Type 2 is caused by bad diet? I guess I could just Google it.

    • @1Doug2002
      @1Doug2002 Год назад +2

      Been a Type 1 for 55 of my 58 years. No severe complications thus far. What he says sounds like what my pediatrician told me when I was 13. While those are possibilities, if you take care of yourself (which is so much easier now than it was in the 60's and 70's). You will live a long and happy life. However, this kind of brings up the whole group think thing as well. I tend to believe very few conspiracy theories, but big pharma being solidly against curing diabetes is one I believe in. We diabetics are a huge cash cow for big pharma.

      i used to have OCD, but it had nothing to do with order, it was more of a "everyone around me is gonna go insane or die of some disease, and my future child is gonna have down syndrome if i don't move my hands like drawing a cross or an X on some random place i recently touched" type.

    • @ThunderBolt219
      @ThunderBolt219 7 лет назад +4

      Yes I agree, i really hate when people keep using OCD as a joke and think it's all to do with preferences when it's actually a real illness, it's sad that many people need to be educated about it. I never make jokes about any mental illness because it just creates more stigma and it will stop people from getting the help they need.

    I’m glad you mentioned OCD. I believe TV especially has almost ‘glamourised’ it with all the shows about obsessive compulsive cleaning... I’ve been diagnosed with OCD for years and people often laugh at me if I tell them because I’m not the worlds most organised person... OCD is bloody hard to live with! It’s plunged me into a depression that felt endless more times than I can count... it makes me sad when people throw around the phrase ‘oh that gets on my OCD’ because it shoves the real sufferers further and further from the light... so thank you

      depression, stress, being alone, OCD, sitting for too long, fear, I have made slow recovery attempts. I think weed revealed the problems I was neglecting, great fear and great confidence, an endless cycle, fear and confidence is a bad combination, trying o balance, lack of control and more attempt to control the chaos, I hated that feeling because it was so terror, the war on drugs I don't oppose or support. my ocd is constant doubt because an atheist doubt is apparently good, doubt everything the atheist say along with skeptics, eventually I did doubt everything, science, reality, my existence, is doubt really good afterall??? the answer is bull shit. reasonable doubt not excessive skepticism.

    Thanks for talking about Rheumatoid arthritis. People don't realize that osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid are two totally different things. I constantly have to be vigilant about my eyes and heart because of the damage RA has already done. In case anybody is curious, RA is an autoimmune disorder. People just think that it's joint pain. I really loved this entire piece actually. Great work Mike and crew.

    Mike, I know this is later than the rest, but I think you're great just as you are. You always do such a good job with the videos. Don't worry so much about your weight. Taking is off slowly is the best way to take & off & keeping it off. Eat in moderation, exercise as often as you can (at least walk, it does wonders) but don't overdo it, & the pounds (kgs) will come off & stay off. But anyway, I think you're great just as you are, you're not fat. You're just barely fluffy.

    Those resistant strains of bacterial infections ARE serious! Just since 2002, I have had MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) A TOTAL OF 17 TIMES. Two of those times were almost fatal for me. It's weird because no one else who lives in our house has ever had it. I guess I'm the only "lucky" one. 🙄
    The biggest thing I have learned from all of this is that people just should not take antibiotics for every little sniffle that comes along. By overusing antibiotics, we're actually hurting ourselves...BIG time...

But I'd feel like I'd need to grow it myself, so I could see exactly what's going into it and not have to worry about accidentally buying it from the wrong person. Plus, I don't live in a state where it's legal, so there are no regulations on it here.

    I just want to thank you. For saying that depression and emotional trauma is REALLY a big deal. As a person who has depression and emotional trauma, I can relate. It's like feeling you're alone and sad and can't do anything about it. People say that depressed people are all suicidal. Well, some are but, not all. They just feel 'lost' and empty. Sometime you just feel 'sad' and you don't even know why. Imagine you're having the best day of your life and then, BAM, you feel down. You feel alone. Then you won't have the motivation to do anything. It's a serious thing. So is emotional abuse. It can cause depression. It can also cause fears that make you petrified and can also cause serious triggers. Take that into thought.

    #15, depression, is probably one of the most underrated diseases. Most people look at it as a thing that will eventually go away, like a cold, but what they don't realize is that it's not only hereditary, but can be fatal. I have meds from the VA and a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed AT the VA I realized then and there this was what caused a LOT of life altering issues for me. What's funny/strange is when I started taking the meds everyone around me started noticing changes ( they didn't know I was on the meds). I was happier, more approachable, listened more, talked less, etc. My mom suffers from it and I think my dad as well, but he died in '08, so I'll never know for sure.
    Anyway, another great video, glad I'm a subscriber!! Keep 'em comin'!!!

    The one about sitting I've heard before. Where do we do the most sitting? SCHOOL AND WORK! Yeah I know theres P.E. and other things like sports, and you do get up and walk to your other classes every, what 50 minutes or so, but thats still about evenly 4-5 hours of sitting, not in a row but added up. And work. I have never worked seeing as I am still in school but I can only assume jobs like working in an office or something like that doesn't require much physical strength. I'm not saying all jobs are like that only some and I'm not saying all schools are like that only MOST. The reason I say most is because it's true. And also with technology, phones, Xbox, PS4, THE COMPUTER I'M TYPING THIS ALL ON, really adds on to this, if you over use it. I mean I LOVE my computer its fun playing games and stuff, but i don't use it 24/7. Well my rant is done. :>

    Bravo!!
    I learned a few things. But also I have seen some of these as truths myself.
    Nothing gets my "let me educate you about that ..." going more than when someone says to just go for a walk or just think happy thoughts when you are down or depressed.
    Depression is NOT just feeling blue, everyone experiences that from time to time. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. How can you just go for a walk when it's all you can do to sit vertically and go to the bathroom, never mind go outside!! It takes a friend or family member who truly cares, medication and therapy (with the right therapist) to be able to live, maybe not like most of the rest of the community, but to be able to walk out the front door and be around other humans.

    Number 26 is definitely anxiety. It isn't just nervousness, it's a constant state of fear and/or panic that can be caused by anything and everything. When people tell me to "calm down", I get more panicked because I think that something is wrong with me, like I'm not normal. Anixiety is terrible and controlling. If your friend seems slightly nervous all the time, tell him to get help. It will help him get his life under control.

    I have suffered clinical depression as part of Bipolar Disorder. I have experienced this, and clinically depressed people I know agree:
    You don't feel happy. You don't feel sad. You don't feel anything. You get irritable. Your mind gets scattered and attention suffers. And there are more symptoms. Check out webmd.com to get more information and DBSAlliance.org and NAMI.org.
    J.K. Rowling in her Harry Potter series described Dementors as being synonymous with depression.
    “Yes. That is exactly what they are. It was entirely conscious. And entirely from my own experience. Depression is the most unpleasant thing I have ever experienced. It is that absence of being able to envisage that you will ever be cheerful again. The absence of hope. That very deadened feeling, which is so very different from feeling sad. Sad hurts but it’s a healthy feeling. It’s a necessary thing to feel. Depression is very different.” - J.K Rowling when asked about dementors

      Michael Edmunds How do people end up in human trafficking? You'd have to be violent in order to kidnap people, most definitely against their will of course, I'd say at gunpoint or knifepoint. Violence surrounds human trafficking, so how is this world less violent then what it used to be if this shit is still going on? Slaves get abused in every aspect or murdered, is this not violence? This right here isn't true at all because the world isn't that much safe if people are still getting kidnapped and sold....against their will and since it happens a lot, it is the majority of violence.

    • @ashleyjones8058
      @ashleyjones8058 7 лет назад +1

      Rocky Type 1 is caused by an autoimmune reaction where the body attacks the pancreas causing it to stop or greatly reduce the production of insulin. You can be born with it or have it occur later in life. Type 1 is often considered a juvenile type of diabetes because it does show up earlier in life most of the time. Type 2 is the one most associated with adult onset and with overweight people. Still, you can get it even when not overweight if your lifestyle and diet are poor along with bad genes. Type 2 means you still produce insulin, but not enough or it doesn't work properly. My extended family has a history of diabetes.

    • @emfri

      emfri You don't have to be fat to get type 2 . . . it increases your risk and your poor lifestyle (why many folks get overweight) increases risk, but being skinny doesn't prevent it. I think he was saying exercise because exercise in itself can help ward off diabetes.

    I'm sorry, I used to like this channel quite a lot, but recently your "research" has been absolutely horrible. For example: everything you said about "diabetes" is false or extremely misleading. Please at least differentiate between the two COMPLETELY different diseases (Type 1 DM and Type 2 DM).
    1. You CAN eat sugars when you're diabetic, nearly impossible not to, and it's not even the sugars that diabetics are keeping an eye on, it's the CARBOHYDRATES.
    2. No, it DOESN'T mean that you WILL go blind, there's a chance that your eyesight will worsen, even to the degree of blindness, but there is absolutely no certainty of that.
    3. No, your fingers will NOT "rot" and "fall off", diabetes CAN cause damage to the blood vessels and especially in the capillaries, which in turn MIGHT cause nerve damage and a lack of blood flow in the extremities (more commonly in the feet). In the most extreme cases this can result in the amputation of the limb.
    4. "Diabetics need their blood to constantly be replaced by a machine"? I'm baffled, I don't even know what to say. Where did you get this information from?
    5. "...and then it will kill you" No, just no. Can diabetes kill you? Yes, most certainly if you DON'T count the carbohydrates or inject insulin properly. Typically the people who die due to "diabetes" don't actually die directly because of it, but instead from a disease or complications that have been caused by diabetes. There are a myriad of different kinds of health problems and diseases that you have a higher chance of developing (especially as a type 1 diabetic) but there is absolutely no certainty that you will get any of these diseases or health complications as long as you treat your diabetes (those with type 1 can't be cured so they will just have to treat it properly, but those with type 2 can be cured).
    6. Type 1 diabetes IS NOT affected by the amount of exercise you do, or what you eat, it pretty much completely depends on both geno- and phenotype. Additionally, everyone with the ability to exercise should do it, this includes nearly all type 1 diabetics.
    If you have this many mistakes WITHIN one of the subjects on this list, how can I be sure that you haven't made mistakes with the other subjects on this list? There is no way I can trust you, especially when you have no list of (credible) sources? I advice you to take this video down and actually do your research properly!

    So happy you guys put psychological abuse up in the light, on a long term basis it'll most likely cause, as you said, PTSD and other illnesses such as the ones you put on the list (depression, OCD). Like myself, I was under psychological abuse (bullying in this case) for a long time, and developed PTSD and severe depression among others. And that about depression was right too, it's stupid as hell to tell a depressed person to "cheer up" and "be happy", it only causes more harm.

    Not just arthritis. ANY autoimmune disease because they usually come in groups. As always, good job, Mike.

    Thanks for mentioning Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is one of many invisible diseases. While I look like the typical 38 year old suburban working mom, I am losing my 20-year battle with RA. There are a lot of great new medications, which have kept me going, but they stop working after a while. I am on chemotherapy now to keep my overactive immune system at bay; this is the last option for me. There needs to be a lot more awareness and research done on autoimmune diseases. They are surprisingly common, unpredictable, and medical science just doesn't have them figured out. If as much attention was paid to autoimmune diseases as there was cancer, we would see a major reduction in costs from medications, surgical care, and disability.

    Eating sugar does NOT cause diabetes. While you didn't specifically say sugar directly caused diabetes, you implied it.
    You are wrong. Spreading such non-facts is as dangerous, if not more so, than each item on your list.
    Check your facts please.

    Ha! I got that last reference.......
