John Travolta had to cajole her into doing it, she thought she was too old to play a teenager at age 29 when they filmed it lol. that was such a laugh, she always looked great at any age. @@GrumpyOldGuyPlaysGames NO. Xanadu the movie was NOT "absolutely horrible" at all. It was not meant to be a serious drama. It was an uncomplicated light-hearted and pithy film from a more innocent time. View it as such. A blending of remarkable choreography and music tied together by a less accomplished script. Nothing more. Nothing less. There is a reason this sweet and campy musical has grown in time to become a bonafide cult classic. Just like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Male fans have even taken to calling themselves "Xana-dudes." Now that is true devotion. Forget the naysayers and misguided criticism: Xanadu will live on forever.

Olivia was my first crush, and this song is one of my favorite songs. It was written by Jeff Lynne and performed with Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra (he is the male background voice). The video is lifted from the first part of the finale of the movie, 'Xanadu' which starred Olivia, Michael Beck (best known for his role in the film 'The Warriors' in 1979), and Gene Kelly, the legendary actor-dancer-singer-choreographer-director of such films as 'Singin' In The Rain' and 'An American In Paris' in the 1950s. Xanadu, as a concept, is taken from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "Kubla Khan: A Fragment".
    "In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
    A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
    Through caverns measureless to man
    Down to a sunless sea."
The movie was a bomb at the box office, but the soundtrack album with half of the songs by Olivia and half by ELO was a huge hit, and the movie is now one of those cult movies. I count it as one of my top-ten favorite movies of all time, but I know it's really not very good. But, as you can see from the video, it is so much fun...who cares?!?!
The choreography for the film was done by Kenny Ortega, who would go on to direct 'Dirty Dancing' with Patrick Swayze, Disney's 'The Newsies' with Christian Bale (pre-Batman), and the 'High School Musical' movies.
    RIP, Livvy!!!

This movie Xanadu was a commercial flop at the time of its release, but on the internet era it blew up and it became a cult classic. This movie gave us Gene Kelly's last cinematic role, Olivia at her most gorgeous, the woman was an absolute vision as Kira, she also met and fell in love with Matt Lattanzi, father of her daughter Chloe while making this movie, if you watch closely you can see him dancing with an asian woman wearing like a purple blouse, and my favorite song by her is included in the amazing soundtrack which is "Magic", fantastic tune. Definitely dig deeper into her successful career, she's such an icon, literally everyone who's not a psycho loved her, and always will, including yours truly. Thank you for this cool reaction honoring her.

This song comes from the film of the same name, Xanadu, which sadly did not receive much positive feedback from critics.
It's a fantasy film in which Olivia Newton-John plays Kira, a Greek Muse (goddess of literature, science, and the arts) who inspires two artists, Sonny Malone and Dany McGuire, to create a huge disco roller rink called "Xanadu".
The Xanadu soundtrack also features Electric Light Orchestra.

This was a clip from the movie "Xanadu". Olivia is a muse that comes to life from a mural to help an artist that is down and out. She helps him get his mojo back and pairs him with Gene Kelly (this was the last movie appearance of Mr. Kelly) and together they open a "roller disco" (thus the roller skaters you saw) and they named it "Xanadu". This video is the (shortened) ending scene of the movie. The movie wasn't very popular but the soundtrack was killer! This song was by ELO and featured Olivia on the lead vocals (if you listen closely to the music it has all of the ELO sound trademarks!). The vinyl record has ELO songs on one side and ONJ songs on the other! The Tubes also contributed to the movie and soundtrack.

The singing, the dancing, the skating, Gene Kelly (!) and Olivia, full of joy and THAT voice!! You have to watch the movie. The last scene that you are watching is actually longer and has more dance styles. It's such a fun film.
    Dances styles:
Pop n lock (Crew was called Chain Reaction)
    Ballroom
    Latin
    Contemporary
    Jazz
    Line dancing
    Ballet - Tightrope walking!!!
    (Performed by Albie Selznick)

Xanadu was Chain Reaction's first big opportunity outside of the West Coast and for many of the dancers throughout the movie. If @WolfHunterZ will checkout the interviews that were included in the anniversary edition, you'll find some great content from Gene Kelly's widow, Kenny Ortega, Sandahl Bergman, Albie Selznick, etc.
It's too bad the HunterZ couldn't react to the complete end number or Mr. Kelly and ONJ's period number. The story behind that, as told by Kenny Ortega, is amazing in itself.

I loved the reaction! You guys really should watch the movie. It was really panned by critics, but if you go in with no expectations and just want to escape and have fun for 90 minutes, it's really a great time. The music is incredible. The basic premise is that 2 people from totally different generations decide to open a dance club together. You get lots of variety as far as styles of dancing and musical eras throughout the movie because of the difference in generations. There's a fun duet by Olivia and The Tubes that literally mixes the music of the generations (and could make for a fun reaction video). The tap dancing scene with Olivia and Gene Kelly is pretty special to watch. Olivia's song "Suspended In Time" is really beautiful and one of her lesser known gems (I would love to see you guys do a reaction to that song).

Your reaction to "Xanadu" made me smile throughout and you're both right; Olivia Newton-John makes you feel pure joy. "Xanadu" came out when I was 8 years old, and it made quite an impression on me. The song is one of my all-time favorites and I shamelessly adore the movie.

Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) choreographed this film. The soundtrack is a mixture of old and new music and dancing. This is the edited version of the finale. You really need to see the complete final to appreciate Olivia's vocal range. Really enjoyed your reaction to this.❤❤❤

The whole album's songs are metaphysical, which is the relationship between the ego represented by the male singers in the songs and the Imagination represented by the angelic voice of Olivia Newton-John. The next time you hear the Xanadu album, hear it with this concept in mind.
Thank you Olivia for sharing your magical voice during your life journey, R.I.P.. 😇🔥❤️🔥😇

Just as your requester, Olivia was my first celebrity crush, and even after all these years she was still on the list. I knew she was sick and was not long for this world, but when she passed I was devastated. Whenever a musical artist passes away, I am reminded of the chorus of Rock 'n Roll Heaven:
    “If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
    If there's a rock n' roll heaven
Well, you know they've got a hell of a band…”
Imagine what music is being made right now with all the greats being there. Now, that Olivia Newton-John has joined the chorus, it was made that much sweeter. It makes me long for the great beyond just so I can be in the audience. We will all miss you here, rest well, Olivia.

Olivia "radiated pure joy". So true.
Not too many artists are such a joy to watch because they give off such positivity.
There is one is becoming know who also radiates positivity everywhere she goes. It is Danielia Villarreal of The Warning. The Wolf Hunterz have reacted to several of their videos. Dany, as she is known, is the lead singer and guitarist. She has a sparkling, goofy personality that brightens up your day. Check her and the band if you like rock music and look for videos of her little live chats or "midnight concerts" where she sings music that is not rock. She is a great person and, although only 22, is likely to be an inspiration like Olivia is.

"XANADU" came out on August 8, 1980. Olivia Newton-John was instantly my first crush at the tender age of five years old. This movie and its accompanying soundtrack just spoke to me. I loved it when others hated it. Xanadu was a love letter to the musicals of the 1940s, as well as the roller-disco craze of the late 1970s (which was on the way out in terms of societal popularity), and it introduced things that would go on to be influential in the early 1980s look and sound. It is my immediate go-to music and movie whenever I am in the depths of my depression (okay, sharing too much information). The timing of Ms. Newton-John's passing was completely bittersweet, as she passed from this mortal coil on August 8, 2022... the day and date of XANADU's 42 anniversary. May she rest in peace!

You immediately. picked up well on the pure joy. Olivia, in a power failure, could light up the room just with her smile. A total force of positivity. My generation is beside itself. she was so much more than just Grease, long before that, she was a 3 time Grammy winner, a totally rounded singer, even though she started out with "Country" music. That was the way she broke into the USA charts. she paid her show biz dues long before that in British and Australian TV shows etc. she covered jazz standards, folk and rock and country, pop, you name it. She was born in England but raised in Australia. A master singer, this is only the tip of the iceberg. She was about the song, not the diva opera. Watch the whole Xanadu movie...it weirdly interesting. Gene Kelly's last movie "[who's Gene Kelly?"]. it would have been a bigger movie but was somewhat disjointed. Jeff Lynn and ELO wrote/did a lot of the soundtrack. you need to dig deep into Olivia's songs and story to understand THIS is Not all she could do. She was the sweetest bad ass entertainer there ever was, no phony celebrity BS... Her father was a WWII hero, cracked the Japanese secret codes....most of all he kicked caner's ass for 30 years, set up a huge cancer clinic in Sidney Australia raising funds and putting in her own...she gave back what she received out of her celebrity status in spades. she sang this song in concerts decades later and still kicked butt, always looked great.

You guys are so cool and so wonderful to do this amazing tribute to Olivia. Especially since this is so far from your type of music.
She was my first crush as a kid and, honestly, that crush has never truely subsided. Not ashamed to say so. There were very few kids back then who didn't have at least one poster of her on their bedroom wall. I grew up with her there and when she passed, it was like loosing a childhood friend that I'd grown up with. In this day it's actually rare to find a celebrity with her talent who is also genuinely kind, sweet, compassionate and just a good person. They broke the mold when they made her. Losing her hurt nearly as much as loosing my brother a few years ago. Maybe that's weird. But it's the truth.
Thank you guys for this tribute to her. I hope you'll do more of her music. "Magic" and "Physical" are two of my favorites. I appreciate what you do. Thank you for your channel. And thanks to that dude who recommended this. I feel ya, man!

So this isn't really a music video. This is actually the final scene from the movie XANADU, that Olivia starred in. The movie involves a Night club/Discotech and this final scene is the grand opening, hence all of the dancers and performers. This song is her and ELO which is where you get that very iconic sound of the song that Electric Light Orchestra is known for. Add in Olivia's amazing voice and the song is legendary. Like your requester, Olivia was my first crush when I was a young lad and I was truly hearbroken when I heard of her passing. It is an end of an era and it leaves a huge hole in my childhood. I will miss you forever Sandy! I'm forever Hopelessly Devoted to you!

This had me choked up bad. It all seems not real. Olivia left us with a huge void in our hearts. But yes she is and always will be beautiful graceful caring loving lady. I met her for the first time in 84. And I've met a lot of famous people. But Olivia just had that spirit about her that makes you clam and so happy. Olivia also makes it like your the famous one. Not her. She was always giddy and happy to meet her fans. She makes it like it's a honor to have met you. Then saw her again and my other all time favorite number one person. Olivia's best friend Marie Osmond. The both together is amazing. And Olivia had a huge since of humor. Her and Marie together gracks people up. Olivia was the most precious gift that God has ever Givin us. Olivia is a true angel. RIP sweet Livvie. You will never be forgotten. We honestly love you our sweet song bird.
