    Classic 80's film, Xanadu. It's got a bit of a cult following because mainstream tends to trash it. Olivia Newton-John shines in this film though. This particular sequence is the finale, though it missed off a couple of minutes. You'd have been even MORE baffled.
    Olivia Newton-John passed away recently after a 20 (or could be 30) year battle with cancer. Her voice was beautiful.

    • @IBGECKO
      @IBGECKO 2 года назад +3

      Yes, sadly it was thirty years that she dealt with cancer, on and off. She was first diagnosed in 1992, and she beat it for 21 years, then it came back in 2013, and again in 2017, the last time Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

    The harness is around the back of her neck not the throat. It is a circus stunt. Xanadu is a movie and this is the grand opening of a club. Olivia is one of the nine greek muses. Their purposes are to inspire artists. Olivia job is to inspire Sonny. They connect with rich Gene Kelly and the plot is to open the club Xanadu. Sonny of course falls in love with her. But she falls in him too. This muses are not suppose to do. Watch the movie to see what transpires.. By the her 8 sisters join in on the opening.

    This movie was polarizing - people loved it or hated it. I’m in the loved it category. The music was SO good, especially the blending of ‘40s and ‘80 styles. The final result was this night club/roller rink. journey there was interesting, especially since Olivia played a muse (yes, one of the originals.j
    You should try to find it to watch. I think you’d like it. Or at least look at the RUclips of Olivia’s dance scene with Gene Kelly.
    Also, the aerialist at the end only has the strap around the back of her head/neck. She’s only held in place by leaning her head back and the centrifugal force. A standard trick, but impressive none the less.

    Xanadu the movie, an unfortunate, certainly Coke inspired kitchen sink film. (That I’ve seen dozens of times)
    Xanadu the Prog rock song by Rush, a brilliant, certainly pot inspired, kitchen sink masterpiece. (That I’ve heard hundreds of times)

    Rather an 80's cult film with the entire movie switching from memories of Gene Kelly (1940) and one of the talented Gibb brothers (1980) and their dream of opening up an amazing night club. They are assisted by a "muse", Olivia Newton-John to make their dream come true. Some outstanding dance scenes, great tunes from the band, ELO ( Electric Light Orchestra), lots of glitz and a bittersweet moment or two. One scene is a cartoon story of love blooming.
    I haven't seen this in years and now I have to find it. I may even take the grandkids roller skating to remember all my young years and the joy of it. Maybe they can create some wonderful memories too.
    Amazing to see your reaction Qofy, coming at you from the blind side like that. 😃

    One of my all-time favorite movies, very underrated but it also came out around the time in Greece and the other John Travolta movie.. Saturday night fever? I honestly cannot remember the name, the Bee gees soundtrack, staying alive.. anyway, Xanadu is in a poem as well, I want to say 17th century? I think it's a something about Paradise. Can't remember what the poem is called.
    The movie is kind of the same concept, I think they use the poem in the movie come to think about it.. but the concept behind the movie is creating sort of paradise between the younger generation and the older.. awesome soundtrack and of course it's Olivia Newton John, RIP

      Kubla Khan
      BY SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE
      [Or, a vision in a dream. A Fragment.]
      In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
      A stately pleasure-dome decree:
      Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
      Through caverns measureless to man
      Down to a sunless sea.
      So twice five miles of fertile ground
      With walls and towers were girdled round;
      And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
      Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
      And here were forests ancient as the hills,
      Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
      But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
      Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
      A savage place! as holy and enchanted
      As e’er beneath a waning moon was haunted
      By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
      And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
      As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
      A mighty fountain momently was forced:
      Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
      Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
      Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher’s flail:
      And mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
      It flung up momently the sacred river.
      Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
      Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
      Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
      And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean;
      And ’mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
      Ancestral voices prophesying war!
      The shadow of the dome of pleasure
      Floated midway on the waves;
      Where was heard the mingled measure
      From the fountain and the caves.
      It was a miracle of rare device,
      A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!
      A damsel with a dulcimer
      In a vision once I saw:
      It was an Abyssinian maid
      And on her dulcimer she played,
      Singing of Mount Abora.
      Could I revive within me
      Her symphony and song,
      To such a deep delight ’twould win me,
      That with music loud and long,
      I would build that dome in air,
      That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
      And all who heard should see them there,
      And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
      His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
      Weave a circle round him thrice,
      And close your eyes with holy dread
      For he on honey-dew hath fed,
      And drunk the milk of Paradise.

    One of the worst movies ever made...an embarrassment that it was Gene Kelly's last appearance on the silver screen...a movie and dancing icon reduced to this trashy crass movie. I do love this song though...written by the lead singer for ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) who had some major hits in the 1970's - including Telephone Line. The script & acting were just 2nd rate at best. Word got out real quick about how bad it was and by week 4 it was out of theaters. High production costs not sure if it made $$$ for its producers. It basically killed Olivia's career for more than a decade. When I saw it, some people were leaving after the 1st 30 minutes.
