    I just did the math. For a hummingbird that weighs exactly 2 grams to consume 10 calories a day, that would be the equivalent of a 150 pound adult consuming over 340,000 calories a day.

    At first, some of the hummingsbirds look plain, but then they´re shiny and colourful like a gem. This is awesome! And just because there´re small air bubbles in their feathers.

    One of the most beautiful things I've seen. It's amazing that even in slow motion, the wings still look like they're beating crazy fast.

    Are their tails like little rudders? Every time they hover, or they come to a stop, their tails do a flicking motion. This is interesting. I like it!

    Birds don't actually piss, or poop for that matter. It comes out as one single substance called "urate", which is basically a mix of the two. However with nectar being the only food source of hummingbirds, it's to be expected that their urate is entirely liquid. :)

    did the math, if they consume 10 calories for their weight, thats like the typical human consuming 220,000 calories a day 00

    • @1313eable
      @1313eable 6 лет назад +1

      Well, yeah, you thought flapping your wings that fast requires no energy at all?
      But, weight and energy consumption are not correlated linearly, so your math is a bit wrong there.

    My family and I had a wonderful trip to Yosemite in the end of this May. We saw some humming birds there and we were deeply touched by its beauty! We want to go visit those lovely birds again and hopefully we can get a close look of those birds. And I think the feeding set in this film is great! I would like to know,as a tourist,where can I buy those equipments?and is it fine to feed wild birds in the U,S,A!?

    You know why you feel something extraordinary about this? Your soul can't resist something so powerful?
    Let me tell you. You are amazed with so amazing most advanced technology today, like hypercar, robots, computers, camera and everything. Then you realized, the most advanced nano technology existed in this world today, they still uncomparable to even a fly. Yes, a fly. Look at how compact the technology inside of fly's eye, and then you see this so powerful rpm of hummingbird's wing. Etc2. You realized, that God creations are so powerful for us to see that we are a very piece of tiny creation.

    it's cool how their head stay still and straight forward, while their wings flapping constantly

    • @1313eable
      @1313eable 6 лет назад

      It's because they use their whole body to stabilize their heads, such that they can drink the nectar from the flowers. It's a bit like Olympic runners: You will see their whole body move, but their head always stays in the same position at the exact same height. This is especially true for hurdling.
      I know it's a bad comparison, but it's the best one I can come up with.

      I see your point. However, in comparison to my tongue, it is little. :) My mom tells this story about my grandpa and how he's scared of dogs. One day he and his buddy were out for a drive and his friend looks in one of the neighbors yards and he said "Oh wow, they have a big dog" my grandpa, who was confused because he didn't see a dog, so he asks "How do you know?" his buddy looks over and says with a smirk "Big dog, Big sh*t" and my grandpa being extremely squeamish throws it in park and whips open the door to vomit lmao. Hope you like my story. Cheers!

    These guys actually didn't need to whisper and hold still. Hummingbirds are fearless. They've been known to attack eagles.
    Here's something I've always wondered: What do people living in Europe, Africa, and Asia feel about them? Living in the US, I know what we think. They're beautiful, majestic, and to be enjoyed while they're around because their visits are quick... but they don't evoke strange, wild, or exotic feelings like the African savanna would. Would a Brit feel the same? Kinda like how we in the US think of hedgehogs as cute, quirky, ordinary creatures despite hedgehogs not even being indigenous to the Americas?

      Well, since we don't have them in the Netherlands, I would be so happy if I could actually see one in real life in a natural environment (I have seen them in zoo's). I think they are wonderful creatures and it shows us that we can learn a lot from mother Nature. (For example, the stabilization techniques of modern planes are based on the techniques hummingbirds use.)
