      I'll definitely see if the 6V53 will fit in the Excursion, if not it's getting the 4-53T Silver Series. I'd like to upgrade the front suspension the same as my F350.:) Thanks for watching.:)

    I think were it my project, I'd look at some smaller twin turbos in parallel - one per bank. It looks like you have more room in that area vs. needing a large cowl hood, but of course videos make it hard to tell things like that. It would probably be a cleaner install overall.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me logic dictates although the 6-53 would be wider than the 4-53, it would be shorter front to back since there are four cylinders in a line where the 6 has three in a line. There is the offset of the banks, but I'd still think the 6 would buy you at least a little room front to back. That would be a cool build with a 6-53.

      Yes you're correct.:) Overall I was happy with the way the 6V53 fit, but still not as nice as the 4-53T does. In order for the 6V53 with a single turbo to work, a 3" lift is required and have a hood scoop, or relief for the turbo.:) Thanks for watching.:)

    I'm picking up a 1975 c30 tomorrow that has a 6v53 in it since 1976 . Been sitting since 1989 .

    Find an old beater to put the 6 in. Like a old super duty with a solid front axle and flat bed. It be a great shop truck.
    The 453 is a clean fit and decent mpg. It looks great as a daily driver.

      True, it might go in my 2000 Ford Excursion, the 4-53 is staying in the F350.:)

      Thanks, they're a great swap.:) This truck has a 4-53T Silver in it and is my daily driver. Eventually I would like to find another F350 of the same years and swap the 6V53 in it. Thanks for subbing and watching.:)

      Too much work for this swap, I've been running a Silver Series 4-53T for 50,000 miles now and that's staying in this truck for the foreseeable future.:) Maybe some day I might find a home for the 6V53.:)

    I'm impressed, now call me a jerk for asking to see one or likely more stages of compound turbocharging. YES altitude compensation is a thing!

      This was a test fit and maybe a future swap.:). For now the 4-53T is back in with a single turbo to see how it compares to the compounds I had. So far I can’t really tell the difference, less response in the lower rpms but that’s about all.

    Man you saying “yeah it’ll fit” is inspirational, well so is all of your work. I look at that and nup, no way, too hard 😂.
    Anyway, don’t you guys over there in the States just cut big holes in your hood and stick turbos out anyway? Cheers Matt 🇦🇺

      Thanks, I was surprised that it fit so well.:) The only thing that poses a problem is the turbo.:) Making it look factory would be a big challenge.:)

    I think I would try and do a dry sump for these old Detroits. Could save a lot of height from that really deep oil pan.
    Just a thought.

      Thanks, yes a nice hood riser from a newer Ford or GM would work perfect. Instead of the 6.6 Duramax you could put Detroit 6V53 decal.:)

      Just having a look at how well the 6V53 fits. Really happy with what I saw, so it may end up in my Excursion in the future.:) The 4-53T is back in the chassis as we speak and making some small changes.:)

    Is this your own shop? I was wondering because I want to start my own shop where I only work on detroits and old diesels. How would I go about that?

      Yes this is my own shop. If you want to start your own shop you need to find a shop that’s for sale and either buy it or rent it. Once you have the shop you can set it up they way you like it and go from there. I do this for my own entertainment, but it can be turned into a business as well to earn money.     weight........thats an issue........and then the next hidden problem is a power train that could handle the grunt ;) Big surprise it fits as well as it does! Go full "mad max" and have an exposed turbo peaking out the top ))

    Why not do 2 small turbos right on the exhaust manifolds? Kind of like a 6.5 turbo has it

      That's definately a possibility.:) I've seen a few with HX35 and 40's with twin turbo's. That works pretty nice.

      @@detroitgarage9430 im thinking of doing that on my truck im not sure if i should do a 4-53t,4-71n or T or a 6v53 i can find those 3 locally at a decent price but the 6v53 I’m looking at seems to have low compression so id have to rebuild it where would you recommend to get a rebuild kit for a decent price? Probably gonna do sleeves and new pistons and rings with bearings of course

      Thanks, no I haven't really considered it. The 6V53 N engine is 210HP which is the same as my 4-53T. My next upgrade on the 4-53T is 250HP with 9A90's. That should be just about perfect.

      Yes, I'm running the stock 5R110 and xfer case on my Silver 4-53T. It would be a direct bolt on.:)

    I know that the Detroits are highly modular, but could you put it together in such a way as to have the governor in the front?

      I've only ever seen them on the back of the 6V53's. I haven't had the blower and governor off to see if they could be rotated.:) Be great if you could.:)

      @@detroitgarage9430 Glad to see you back hope all is well the first 6V53 I saw in a pick-up was a International and the blower drive shaft was broken we let the owner cut the hole in the firewàll to repair the blower drive no good way to move the governor to the front have seen them with two turbos iñ square body chevy alternator mounts under engine this pickup was pulling about 35,000 pounds was repowered to 6V92 and I think it's still in Grants pass Oregon it was Bob Salges

    What is the approximate weight of a 6v53. I have a 77 ford that is just begging for a Detroit 6v53. Also did you have to make an adapter for the bell housing?

    How is your chassis so clean? You must never drive your rig in the road salt. Speaking as a Buffalo NY guy here. I know what salt does to our vehicles. I have a 3-53na that I want to put into a 1/2 ton Pickup. I know it will be slow. I am constantly on the lookout for a 6v53. That is the holy grail in my mind.

      I spray the chassis every year is the late Summer. I use a product called New Hampshire Oil Under Coating. The oil turns into a grease like coating and nothing gets through.:) Having a Detroit in the truck helps as well.:)

      No, the only way to get rid of the governor is DDEC electronic controls. There's enough room to clear with a 3" body lift.:) Thanks for watching.:)

      I'm running the 4-53T Silver in this truck with the 6.4 radiator. If in future I ever decide to upgrade to the 6V53 I would continue to run the same radiator. Thanks for watching.:)
