Two things have become clear: 1) Henry Cavill is one of the most gracious people on the planet. Cannot imagine how hurtful this must be to him. 2) Both the studio and Gunn are tone deaf to their audience. That 'smooth it over' tweet from Gunn showed zero empathy for the feelings of the fans. I think it will do him good...this break from superman. He is a fab actor and now he can concentrate on other projects and diversify his portfolio. We his fans will support him. Needless to say, I am no longer going to spend my money watching DC movies and infact marvel movies in the cinema. None are worth it.

The only positive from this scenario is that it's been proven that Hollywood cannot kill Henrys career. Henry was the perfect Superman for this generation of fans. My generation had Christopher Reeve. Both were terrific in their roles, and both had such respect and understanding of the responsibility that came with wearing the cape.
I am the Chris generation also and have not liked any actor that play Superman since. With that said...Henry Caville was the perfect Superman pick. I love his portrayal of the character. You're right...we loved Chris and we are a hard bunch to please but they gained me as a fan with Henry too. I think I'm done now with DC.

Out of all the actors playing Superman Henry was by far my favorite. I was so looking forward to another movie with him bearing the red cape. I mean he legit is Superman looks just like him, humble nice, stand up guy. Why they would decide to go a other route is beyond me. Terrible idea 😭

They did him dirty. It's far worse that they brought him back only to do this. This also makes me think that Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam is done as well. He fought so hard and insisted it had to be Henry as Superman.

The movie got banned there because Pierce Brosnan was in the movie. They lost out on a few hundred million there.

Even if the current movie is successful, there's always a risk that audiences will boycott future movies, the more people learn about them. I mean look at the contrast between Cavill and Amber Heard. Cavill basically got treated like crap by DC - yet he's getting a ton of sympathy from the fans. In contrast Amber Heard got a universally negative response once people discovered what she was REALLY like. (Her OWN recordings and other evidence made her come across as a toxic psycho). If it weren't for that, Aquaman 2 would have been released ages back.. (People MIGHT watch Aquaman 2 because of Momoa, though. Maybe. But Heard is a definite risk, imo)

It's a huge mistake. When Henry Cavill made the announcement that he would reprise the role of Superman, there was a euphoric response from the internet and the fandom. Then Safran and Gunn made their decision. I think that James Gunn's ego, like many movie moguls, has become inflated by his own hubris, and believes every decision he makes is the right one...simply because he made it. I feel that any future Superman project without Cavill is now going to be prejudiced.

I don’t think James Gunn is happy about it. He’s cracking under the permanent damage that the previous dictators of DC Films have brought upon their company. And Gunn sees no point in fixing what is permanently broken. He is wiping the slate clean. Burn it down. And a new DCEU will be born. Evolved but untamed. Gunn is a ever evolving film guy who made something great out of ridiculous things. Gunn will make it work. He just needs time to adjust the company to its proper direction for the first time in years maybe 9 or 10 in total.

Well said Graeme. The excitement and reaction to him being back in October was obvious. It is shameful that they could remove him like this. As you said, Henry was so classy with how he has handled all that b.s. over the years. It was clear people wanted him to stay in the role. The reaction to the Black Adam scene and the official announcements that he was back show that people wanted him to return. He deserved a chance to follow through on how he wanted to portray a joyful hopeful Superman.

Sadly, DC is in shambles and they have not been able to mend or catch up since Marvel started in 2008. It will be a fascinating case study to analyze how this happened. They are a studio with money, connections, and a successful animation movies. How this does not translate to live action is astounding.
Marvel had an unprecedented run of success between 2008-19, but even they've fallen apart lately too. The current MCU is a hodgepodge of 2nd tier franchises, B list actors, and a growing slate of nauseating streaming series pushing insane agendas for Disney+ post-Endgame. Do you realize how utterly abysmal the current MCU would now be considered by fans and critics alike without the Spiderman films carrying it? The fall from grace that Marvel is currently trapped in leads me to believe their clock has finally struck midnight, and their carriage is turning back into a pumpkin. Besides Spiderman, I've seen nothing out of Marvel recently to suggest they aren't also reverting back to the same old Marvel everyone scoffed at in Hollywood prior to 2008. Sure, Marvel still has solid capital with audiences they built up in Phases 1-3, but the half-life on said capital is shorter than ever before. Don't believe me? Look no further than Star Wars. The most spellbinding and successful IP in cinematic history has become little more than a punchline amongst it's own fans.
Literally only went to watch Black Adam after I learnt of the 'Superman' cameo. Last DC film I watched was Wonder Woman 2....., Yeah I was ready to be done with the franchise after that lol. I know the script, the new superman is in a different universe and dies by Lex Luthor's clone of superman and Henry Cavill's Superman charcter comes in to destroy the cloned superman operations (army of supermen made to take over the alternate universe) and the dog leaves with Henry Cavill's superman back to his universe which leaves a pathway for Lex to inter travel.

I think Gunn came in from the bigining with the intention of firing everyome and hire his own new puppets. The guy left The Witcher to be in the DCU. The Rock just came into the franchise. I mean the nerve he would have if he kept The Suicide Squad and PeaceMaker. Gunn could have at least do a send off movie for the cast then restart. A studio that can't even respect their actors, how the hell will they ever going their or even try to respect their fans, it's all about the money. Man....poor Henry. I can't imagine what was going on in his head. I'm glad he found a way to bring Warhammer to live action, so that he can dive into something he loves and stay busy. Also, people have the misconception that he quit The Witcher for Superman. That's not the case. He had creative differences with the showrunners because they didn't even like the books or the video games, which he loves deeply. They were steering away from the story lines that everybody loves, so he decided to leave. The Black Adam project just seemed to be one of those things lined up that he had already talked about earlier on with The Rock.

The Studio setup Cavill, they had him announce that he was back, while the contract negotiations were going on for James Gunn. James Gunn was probably working on this take over for a while. He worked on Brightburn and then in Peacemaker he had the Justice League appear at the end. The studio just wants to pay younger actors on the lower end of the pay scale instead of paying top dollar for Affleck, Godot, and Cavill and Momoa.

Multiple others were being cancelled by these 2 at the WB. Multiple Entertainment Outlets have been reporting it. All DC WB productions are cancelled. Henry was not fired, Jason wasn’t fired & neither were the other’s. Unless they were but, the actors themselves didn’t leave. I do know that a petition was signed for 238,000 signatures. Both WB people didn’t care about the petition & that the fans signed them. They were doing as they pleased. Proof positive. If the don’t care about the ticket holder then it stands to reason they are running the WB into the ground. You don’t walk away from a Multi Billion Dollar International Block Buster like Henry/Superman. These 2 need to be replaced immediately.

No way! Everyone has fallen in love with Henry Cavill as Superman. No other actor can replace him. They can try but it will be throwing money down the drain. Just like when Disney messed up Star Wars and tried to sell us Ray and Kylo ren.

Henry was the perfect Superman for this generation of fans. My generation had Christopher Reeve. Both were terrific in their roles, and both had such respect and understanding of the responsibility that came with wearing the cape.
I am the Chris generation also and have not liked any actor that play Superman since. With that said...Henry Caville was the perfect Superman pick. I love his portrayal of the character.

The movie got banned there because Pierce Brosnan was in the movie. They lost out on a few hundred million there.

Cavill basically got treated like crap by DC - yet he's getting a ton of sympathy from the fans. In contrast Amber Heard got a universally negative response once people discovered what she was REALLY like. (Her OWN recordings and other evidence made her come across as a toxic psycho). If it weren't for that, Aquaman 2 would have been released ages back..

It's a huge mistake. When Henry Cavill made the announcement that he would reprise the role of Superman, there was a euphoric response from the internet and the fandom. Then Safran and Gunn made their decision. I think that James Gunn's ego, like many movie moguls, has become inflated by his own hubris, and believes every decision he makes is the right one...simply because he made it. I feel that any future Superman project without Cavill is now going to be prejudiced.

He’s cracking under the permanent damage that the previous dictators of DC Films have brought upon their company. And Gunn sees no point in fixing what is permanently broken. He is wiping the slate clean. Burn it down. And a new DCEU will be born. Evolved but untamed. Gunn is a ever evolving film guy who made something great out of ridiculous things. Gunn will make it work. He just needs time to adjust the company to its proper direction for the first time in years maybe 9 or 10 in total.

As you said, Henry was so classy with how he has handled all that b.s. over the years. It was clear people wanted him to stay in the role. The reaction to the Black Adam scene and the official announcements that he was back show that people wanted him to return. He deserved a chance to follow through on how he wanted to portray a joyful hopeful Superman.

Sadly, DC is in shambles and they have not been able to mend or catch up since Marvel started in 2008. It will be a fascinating case study to analyze how this happened. They are a studio with money, connections, and a successful animation movies. How this does not translate to live action is astounding.

Do you realize how utterly abysmal the current MCU would now be considered by fans and critics alike without the Spiderman films carrying it? The fall from grace that Marvel is currently trapped in leads me to believe their clock has finally struck midnight, and their carriage is turning back into a pumpkin. Besides Spiderman, I've seen nothing out of Marvel recently to suggest they aren't also reverting back to the same old Marvel everyone scoffed at in Hollywood prior to 2008.
Sure, Marvel still has solid capital with audiences they built up in Phases 1-3, but the half-life on said capital is shorter than ever before. Don't believe me? Look no further than Star Wars. The most spellbinding and successful IP in cinematic history has become little more than a punchline amongst it's own fans.

I know the script, the new superman is in a different universe and dies by Lex Luthor's clone of superman and Henry Cavill's Superman charcter comes in to destroy the cloned superman operations (army of supermen made to take over the alternate universe) and the dog leaves with Henry Cavill's superman back to his universe which leaves a pathway for Lex to inter travel.

It's madness, the DCEU has always been in turmoil... I fully support Henry as Superman. He wore the cape with dignity and lives the values of Superman.
Man....poor Henry. I can't imagine what was going on in his head. I'm glad he found a way to bring Warhammer to live action, so that he can dive into something he loves and stay busy.
Also, people have the misconception that he quit The Witcher for Superman. That's not the case. He had creative differences with the showrunners because they didn't even like the books or the video games, which he loves deeply. They were steering away from the story lines that everybody loves, so he decided to leave. The Black Adam project just seemed to be one of those things lined up that he had already talked about earlier on with The Rock.

The Studio setup Cavill, they had him announce that he was back, while the contract negotiations were going on for James Gunn. James Gunn was probably working on this take over for a while. He worked on Brightburn and then in Peacemaker he had the Justice League appear at the end. The studio just wants to pay younger actors on the lower end of the pay scale instead of paying top dollar for Affleck, Godot, and Cavill and Momoa.

There are many generations that had their own favorites and times where things were different.
