The off-arm assist in collecting one’s mass forward for the weight shift, and it provides you something to leverage the swing against. ( swim move to counter the swing )
@@GingerSnapDiscGolf that is correct. The off arm and rear leg ( drive leg) , counter the swing & provide you something to leverage against during the swing .
The only thing I intentionally do with the off arm is use it to help coil on the reach back and get into the right position, otherwise I just let it do it's thing. Anytime I try to 'engage' the off arm, I end up rounding.
I had the same problem! Anytime I tried using my off arm specifically like Simon or McBeth I would just round.. I finally stopped doing that when my focus was just getting it close to my side when I pull through! Still not as close as I would like it to be tho😅
I think most of the pros are using the off arm the same way, where it takes an active role, and precedes the use of the throwing arm in the swing. There's a smaller group of them (think Niklas Anttila) who use it at the same time as the throwing arm. And an even smaller group (think Jakub Semerad) who tuck it next to their body before they even start their swing. In all cases they get the arm next to the body around the same time the disc is in the power pocket. I think the active off arm preceding the throw is kind of like a crowd performing a wave. It can help produce power in the swing, on top of the other advantages of the disc coming close to the body for faster body rotation. 🙂
I definitely think it has an active role in the form, some use it for timing for sure where it proceeds the throwing arm! No matter the style like you said they all have the arm next to the body when the disc is in the power pocket! If used correctly I think it can help with overall form for sure! 😄
What are your thoughts on the off arm?

I have never heard it broke down that way before, so it can act almost like an anchor?

I need some in person help and I need to play more often. Noodle arms unite
Getting somebody else to try and see things to improve you can’t see yourself is helpful for sure! We have all been noodle arms at some point 😂
After watching the video I think the off arm can help you gain speed whether you are a novice or a pro
I think it can help with some things like maybe some rotational speed or maybe smoothness!
I feel like if you are a beginner or very mediocre, the off arm doesn’t matter fr
Definitely bigger issues to worry about!
It’s not debatable… I don’t have an off arm … I have two arms…. Throw with both of them and you might learn how to throw farther
😂
