I am astonished at how Douglas ignores the second half of John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM [free will] shall not perish but shall have everlasting life. Salvation is a free gift from God, depending on acceptance and faith-He provided a way (Jesus said “I am the Way ….” ❤

Exactly. AND John 3:18 says that "those who BELIEVE in the Son are not judged; but those who DO NOT BELIEVE have already been judged, BECAUSE they have not believed in God's only Son"
Jesus doesn't say they are judged because their sins have not been atoned for.

Nobody can walk away from reading the New Testament as a Calvinist without some external programming for sure.
To many “if you….” “if we….” statements that would require Paul and others to be just playing around or winking at his readers. God sovereignly chooses to let men have free will to choose, because he is loving! And His will still happens it’s so many variables!

You need to listen to part 2 at what Doug said regarding that. You are failing to understand the Calvinist position.
Also, I came to the Calvinist position by reading Rom 9.

Interesting to note that when Wilson speaks about John 3 and Christ coming not to condemn the world but to save it he leaves out that the world "might be saved." I don't know if this is intentional or not but it seems that his presuppositions are driving his "exegesis" and not the other way around.

I believe those given over/have fully succumbed to false doctrine (and Calvinism is definitely not biblical) get assisted by 👿 to be blinded to the truth.
As you mentioned, they don't acknowledge the word "might" in John 3:17, John 1:7, 2 Thessalonians 2:10... because of their preconceived notions & adherence/devotion to Calvinism.
They will focus & quote John 17:9 without bothering to keep reading Jesus' prayer which includes vs 20. So there take away is Jesus only prays for an elect few.
Same with Romans mid-9. They won't read Paul's conclusions of mid-9 starting in 9;30 continuing thru 10:4.
It sounds odd to some when I point out the spiritual warfare going on within Christian theology...it was 👿 first & favorite go-to since the Garden.

Calvinists...like Dispensationalists are loyal and committed to their system above all else. If Scripture gets in the way (and it does), you'd think they'd unravel but they stay committed to their system.

Throughout these debates, Mr. Wilson didn’t put much effort in exegesis for the defense of his interpretation of Scripture. He only quoted more proof texts that he believed supported his view - which is what Steve said Calvinists often do, and he’s right. Show us the Hebrew or Greek. Show us the context and how such texts would be relevant to its audience. Give us something deeper to bit into besides more verses that somewhat defend (or not) your position at face value. Carnal logic or not, I was unfortunately unconvinced by Dr. Douglas and left disappointed by his offering in this debate. I’m not a Calvinist or leaning but I love a good debate. Steve won the day in my opinion with his well thought out use and understanding of Scripture.

Pretty sure we need to read Ro 5 as saying that just as all those who came forth from Adam are born in bondage to sin, whereby all men eventually (spiritually) die, so, also, all those who come forth from Christ are born alive and free from sin--ie, not that Christ effected something for all humanity, whether believer or unbeliever. That would not make sense.
As for the fact that Paul "died" when the commandment came, Jesus says that the angels of the children daily behold God's face, so I think it means that humans are born spiritually living, but, when they come to the age where they know good and evil, and inexorably do evil, they spiritually die--this having nothing to do with Christ.

Does Steve believe that people can unchoose Jesus? Does he reject the "once saved, always saved" frame of thinking? Can a real Christian walk away from God and go to hell upon death?

@Tavahead what difference does it make? God is either sovereign over all things, or He is not. If anybody things different, then they can explain why to God when they finally meet Him at the end of their life.
