  • This short video presentation shows the effective application of dynamic cupping therapy on a 69-year-old patient who presented with a 4-month history of anterior knee pain from tight quadricep muscles. He plays 5-a-side soccer 2-3 times per week. Medium cupping pressure was applied with 2 full pumps to generate negative pressure in the cups. For dynamic cupping to be effective 2-3 (225-300 mmHg) full pumps are required. Several studies have shown a positive effect of cupping therapy on improving flexibility and reducing pain (Schaub 2023, Mughal et al 2023, Kim et al 2017). The reason dynamic cupping was used over static cupping is that it is more effective in improving muscle flexibility and joint range of motion. Schaub (2023) assessed the acute effect of different methods of cupping therapy on ankle dorsiflexion on thirty-five healthy adults. Their results showed that there was an immediate improvement in all groups however, the dynamic cupping group presented with a more significant increase in ankle range of motion compared to the other groups.
