- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2024 Honda Ridgeline mid-size pickup truck. What’s New? Quite a bit! The 2024 Honda Ridgeline gets some exterior updates with Ridgeline stamped across the tailgate, the front skid garnish is painted pewter grey along with the new 5-spoke 18” wheels and the crossbar atop the grille and mirror caps are gloss black.
The 2024 Honda Ridgeline interior, there’s a new centre console with a large integrated armrest and expanded storage and the larger storage tray ahead of the shifter can accommodate two large phones side by side. There’s also a new standard 7” driver display, a larger 9” touchscreen with faster processing time, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and the available navigation system has been simplified with new graphics and fewer menus.
Honda has added the 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport which is more off-road capable than the other Ridgeline models. It has an off-road tuned suspension, General Grabber A/T sport all-terrain tires and steel underbody protection. The suspension tuning features unique spring rates, damper valve tuning and stabilizer bars. Different exterior elements include, a unique grille with a more rugged mesh design, pewter grey 18” wheels, black door pillar trim, orange TrailSport badging and a sky blue paint colour, The cabin has orange accents and orange ambient lighting.
The 2024 Honda Ridgeline has a 3.5L V6 matched to a 9-speed automatic transmission with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. You can put regular fuel in the Ridgeline.
All 2024 Honda Ridgeline models have a tailgate that opens down like a typical truck tailgate but it can also swing open to the side like a door. In the down position it extends the 5 foot 4 inch bed to more than 7 feet and the tailgate inner surface has two moulded-in seats. It has a payload of 1,583 pounds and can tow 5,000 pounds.
In Canada, the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Sport starts at $52,424 CAD, TrailSport $56,124 CAD and Black Edition $59,124 CAD.
In the US, Sport $39,750 USD, RTL $42,580 USD, TrailSport $44,980 USD, Black Edition $46,350 USD.
2024 Honda Ridgeline fuel Economy, it gets 12.8L/100 km, 18 MPG city and 9.9L/100 km, 24 MPG highway.

Firstly, I enjoy your reviews as they are usually spot on and remind me of our 4 years living in Vancouver, BC. I own a '24 Black Edition Ridgeline and really like it a lot on many levels including the much-needed interior refresh- mainly the tech was quite dated, and it needed a real console. The Ridgeline is really unique and not comparable to many other trucks out there and that is what works for me. The fact that it has a fantastic v6 with VTEC and a great ZF 9sp tranny is fine with me. I average 23mpg in mixed driving and 27mpg on the highway. It also handles extremely well, as it has a 125" wheelbase with a multi-link rear setup and stepped A frame suspension up front. It's AWD too which really helps as it is torque vectoring; we drive in the mountains a lot and all of these things come together really well. I don't need a 'work truck' or a strong off-roader but wanted an open bed and the ability to comfortably tow 4,000lbs. I find the highway noise level acceptable at speed, perhaps snow tires have more volume but ours is very quiet. At $50K loaded, out the door it is expensive but nowhere near as expensive as many other 'trucks'. I will leave it that it is a sport utility truck, very versatile and should last a long time with regular maintenance.
I've made up my mind, this is my next new vehicle. I am going to purchase one next month. Thanks for the comment it really helped me to make up my mind. I've only heard good things about the Ridgelines.

Unless your speed limit is 45/55mph at most with straight roads and no stop lights
My 22 Ridgeline Sport which is the lightest in weight averages 15 mpg in the city with stop lights 30-50 mph speed limits and 22.2 mpg in the highway at 75MPH speed limit.
I use premium 93 oil changes at 4500 miles, air filters at 10,000 OEM only
Premium fuel is a total waste of money in the J series engine…it buys you nothing. Mixed driving defined; 14 miles country roads averaging 55 mph then 5 miles of inner city mostly at 45 mph. Normal driving, no sport or eco modes. Hand calc the mpg but it is within 1 mpg of the onboard computer. I just returned from a 260 mile trip, all highway and averaged 26 mpg. I have no reason to lie and have been very fortunate in life because I don’t. Most of us who have owned many vehicles over time know that moderate driving habits and checking your tire air pressure monthly yields higher mpg than those who drive more aggressively and roll on under inflated tires.
I just bought the Ridgeline Trailsport 2024 ,gray color. Love it. Perfect travel truck for my needs. Gas mileage is very good for a truck, got 25 .1 on the highway at 70 miles per hour. Very happy and comfortable and fun to drive. I traded a 2012 Tundra 5.7 . 4 wheel drive, wife liked it better. Because it s bigger, but the gas mileage is bad! Got the cover for the bed extra,
For reliability you really can’t beat this Honda… especially over Ford; I’ve owned 2 Ridgeline trucks, a 2011 & a 2014. Loved them both. This engine/transmission has been around a while, so all the kinks have been worked out. Also being naturally aspirated it’s a lot less maintenance $$. Looking at getting another in the next month. Just know what your needs are & buy accordingly. This can do about 85-90% of what your average Joe would need; but it’s not a job sight truck for heavy duty. It is however a great daily driver & will work for your handy man, back yard warriors. It’s also great for your outdoor enthusiasts, so long as you’re not rock crawling.

To reinforce Zack's point about pricing, we looked at getting a Frontier back in 2016. The King Cab Pro4X model was $34k. Now it is $50k. Back then, it was relatively affordable as a fun little truck. Now, the Frontier starts at $50k and the King Cab Pro-4X is the base trim. The top trim crew cab is $58k now ($20k more than it was in 2016).
A local dealer has a new pro4x crew cab 4x4 for $6k off the msrp, $37.5k
Kinda makes you wonder if pricing is going thru the roof, or if your currency is falling off a cliff.
@@sharkskin3448 It's not really a currency thing. The CAD to USD is only down about half a cent compared to 5 years ago. As well, the US is adding $1 Trillion to its debt level every 100 days right now. It's all inflation with likely a bit of greed thrown in.

On my list of the "two things I'd like to see improved" are: (1) Better fuel economy than 18/24... and (2) Something other than a sea of gray in a Honda interior!!!

I have an older Ridgeline. I like it because the size reminds me of a Dakota I had when I was a young man. This truck has ruined me to other trucks. It’s just the right size- not too big and not too small. The magic seats opens up the cabin for more storage. The trunk carries my straps, bungee cords and my son’s athletic equipment without using the interior space. The rear tailgate opening two ways means; I don’t have to bend over the tailgate to grab a heavy load. Too much common sense was engineered into this truck. I’ll get a newer one eventually… Mine has been very reliable.
I have a 2021 Black Edition. I have no complaints, it’s the perfect vehicle for someone who doesn’t really need a full sized pick up but still want the versatility of a truck bed and light towing capability. Most full sized truck owners don’t tow anything and don’t really need full size pick up. The new trail sport looks cool, but I’m going to wait to see what Honda has in store for a full re-tool of the Ridgeline hopefully in the near future.
Thank you for another great review. You guys are awesome! I was looking for a midsize truck and had narrowed it down between the new Tacoma and the Ridgeline. Your review helped make up my mind to purchase a new Ridgeline RTL and I love it. It came well equipped for $44,000 in the States. The new Tacoma SR5 I was looking at was $48,000 and came with manual driver and passenger seats. You have to upgrade to the TRD to get electric seats and now you're at the $50,000 mark. That's crazy. Keep up the good work.
What a popular segment! Wish Honda had updated the interior like the Pilot. They have a tough time deviating from their plan.
The Pilot was full redesign 2023.
The Ridgeline was another refresh.
But if not redesign it definitely needed refresh updated instrument cluster. The wider armrest. We have 1st Generation Ridgeline in family.
But I was waiting for full redesign but it became clear it was not happening.
So a new Ridgeline was not a replacement for the 07 Ridgeline in family. It would be replacing my 00 Acura 3.2TL sedan with low mileage. I then went to my alternative plan would be to get Honda Pilot Elite. It has the features I would have wanted in redesign Ridgeline.
Will get soon but we just purchased new car in family 2 weeks ago. In family but not household. We bought 2024 Civic Hatchback Sport.

Hey guys, just picked up my black xlt hybrid maverick last week - Zach it’s the perfect truckish thing for dump runs and home maintenance and I really like the cloth seats. Warm in winter and cool in summer compared to leather or vinyl. The ridgeline is nicer but given the cost and what I really need, it was maverick 100% over the other alternates.
When comparing to Ford ranger Honda reliability makes it a better choice! In US middle to high $40,000 range is a better value than Chevy with the terrible 4-cylinder engine or Nissan based on fuel economy although Nissan out trucks them all in power. Toyota equals in reliability but is smaller on the inside and cost more. Great points on features and benefits as usual, great show as always!
I’ve had a Maverick for over two years and it is terrific. Tows our boat. Gets 33MPG with Ecoboost AWD on the highway.
We just bought one! Love it but I liked the back on the older models better. Always loved the “H” and the chrome on the rear.
Best mid-size truck for the money today. I love the dash with real switches... and the high degree of standard equipment. But the best thing about the Ridgeline? IT"S A HONDA! Reliability beyond belief, and more comfort than any pickup built today. It's the Best of the bunch, without a doubt.
I have a 2020 Ridgeline and really like it. Great bed and storage functions. I get better fuel economy than the ratings as I average 10L/100km combined and often get 8L/100km highway. I tried all the others when I bought this one and the interior cabin space is the best.

Back in January 2022, I had a 2017 Ridgeline until a distracted 📱📞🥱 driver ran through a stop sign 🛑!
T-boned hit mid truck turned me 90° head-on into a concrete wall. Thankfully ALL airbags deployed and we just came out with seatbelt bruises. Insurance totaled the truck and I purchased a new (at the time) 2022. Love my 22, as much as my 17. It’s roomy, comfortable, plenty of power and enough truck 🛻 for my needs…

Zack makes a point I’ve been saying for years. They should have taken the MDX/RLX hybrid system and put it in the pilot/passport/Ridgeline/odyssey. Maybe tone down the power and focus on fuel economy some.
Owned many vehicles in my 79 years and own lexus corvette and passat and a new Maverick hybrid and the xlt model I have is a star. Good seats for comfort and mpg tops
This is the second refresh for the second generation Ridgeline. I like it now that they redesigned the interior. I wish they did this back in 2021 when they redesigned the front, so it's a little too late in the game for people like me who own the 2019 and older. I'm hoping for a hybrid 3rd gen in the very near future.

They can’t dampen the tailgate AND have it swing out to the side.
It’s one or the other. Honda chose “ the other “.
I think "the other" was the right choice. If someone has to have a dampened tailgate because it's " too heavy", then they are probably too weak (or lazy) to load the bed anyway.
I think the engineers could make it happen if they wanted to but the bean counters says no way.
It looks alot better than the previous years. now I like the way it looks!
I waited 505 days for my hybrid Maverick to get delivered after I ordered it. Don't get disappointed Zack for not being able to buy your review model right away.
For information, if the back window gets shattered, Honda dealers will not replace it, nor will any auto glass replacement company. It has to go to the body shop, as the interior has to be removed to get to all of the bolts and wires.
I work for speedy glass and no we don’t touch the Ridgelines.
That's why I rarely use mine although I understand it could break in many other ways! 2006!🤔🤫😬
If I was looking for another truck, this is the only one I would consider. Comfort, AWD, V6, reg fuel, not too big, Magic Seat, trunk, 2-way tailgate, Honda reliability. I don't tow, so this one is a no brainer. I've had Fords - enough said. Thanks for another great review.

Such a nice mid-size truck, but I never see any on the roads in the Toronto area. A relative has had one for 12 years with little to no issues.
your relative has one from pre-cylinder deactivation era. No two apples are the same. The new V6's are infamous for failing before 200k if you drive on highway (cruising speed) often. Most people who have "no problems" with the current ones haven't even hit 150k yet to have a legitimate opinion.

I own a 2018 RTL Ridgeline. At 96k my transmission failed. Honda had to replace it. 13 thousand dollars and 4 month wait to source one. My fuel injectors went and had to be replaced. Also they extended the warranty on select parts by a year due to known issues. There was a known transmission issue with my model year. Also both swing arms had to be replaced. Multiple recalls as well. Still, it is a great riding vehicle. I would likely buy another based on how comfortable it rides and its utility. The transmission was replaced by Honda. I was lucky and had 10 days left on my warranty.
That ZF 9HP automatic is never going to get my vote. The engine is great and you won't find its refinement anywhere else in the segment. But it's old, has a timing belt, and fuel efficiency is mid, as the younglings say. I'd give up some of the trunk space for a hybrid battery option.
Nothing is perfect but car & driver magazine claims ZF transmissions are the best available.

I traded my Maverick hybrid for a Ridgeline RTL and I actually enjoy this more. I miss the gas mileage but the build quality of the Honda really sold me.
I did just the opposite because of the gas mileage...😅
If you can't afford gas you probably have no business buying a newer vehicle in the first place. That is crazy.

I know the Ridgeline has the updated V6. I don’t have the Ridgeline but I do have my 2013 Accord V6. It still has the torque and horsepower it had when I bought it new. It currently has 235,799 miles and no rust anywhere including on
the original exhaust and shocks. It is and has been a great car.
This is so far the only Honda that I can pass its look!

Another great review! What I would have liked: a new version based on the Pilot unlike the current Passport base with the Honda 10-speed auto, 360 camera, more ground clearance (7.6 for the Trailsport is way too low) modern infotainment. $60k missing these features is a hard pill to swallow.
2025 Ridgeline will be getting the 10spd auto and the new V6 that is in the pilot.

V6 N/A is quite appealing in the used marketplace, for me at least. It’ll all come down to price between a Frontier, Ridgeline, or a non-turbo v6 F150 with the 6 speed.

Our a midsized truck. Our just a truck. Ridgeline barely tows more than the Honda Odyssey. Honda pilot tows 5k as well. It's a pilot with the back cut off.

We currently own a Ridgeline and a Tacoma. Ridgey is more comfortable, Taco is better at pulling our RPod trailer. Was ready to buy the 2024 Ridgeline Trailsport but it does not have the in box power outlet. Deal killer because we like it for camping. Also - didn't like tires.
Now probably going to buy a Tacoma Hybrid....if they every get inventory.
Bought a second hans 2019 Ridgeline Touring in 2021. Soooo comfortable when we drive from Québec city to Gatineau to visit our son's family. Easily do 9 li/100km
Im looking at that year model 2019 with 6 speed auto. How was it? What mileage are u now with your ridge?
I've got the 6 speed auto and no issues after 66k.
Honda has issued an extended warranty for the torque converter (as well as the injectors).
I'm a little worried that I won't put on a lot of km's and the extended warranty will time out before the problem occurs on my Ridgeline.
Other than that I've been really happy with mine. Actually had one of the old style Ridgelines before and may well buy another... but will wait until the next generation.

The Ridgeline for the win! Less plastic fantastic. Reliabl ity is better I would guess. Ram has a trick tailgate that has a 60/40 split swing. Sad they swapped the price point of the Hybrid as 2nd to the 2.0 engine.
A & Z, My neighbor likes the Taco But He said that the Headlights look like they're Crying 😭 with the Black Trim below the Headlights. Waiting for the Ridgeline AWD V-6 Trailsport 🇺🇲.
For the record...a softer suspension is not good for off road, it bottoms out easier which causes damage. This is just a fancy Ridgeline sport you get to pay extra money for. City and highway only for this thing. But that VTec is still a great engine.

Im really considering a RL if lI'm honest with myself this is all the truck I need. love the fact that it doesn't have a Turbo and rather has a V6 NA which equals reliability. And also, I'm not sure if I would be comfortable rock climbing with my brand new 60K off-road truck/SUV so who am kidding. If I really want to go off-roading I would just buy an used 2005 Jeep Wrangler and tow it with my super comfortable Ridgeline truck.
Traded in my Tacoma for the Ridgeline. RL is better by far. Ya'll need to get out of your Taco shell.
How would you compare the Ridgeline to the new Tacoma? Fuel economy, towing/capacity, comfort, etc? Which would you and Zack choose?
Love everything about it except the push button shifter (surprised you guys didn't speak to that) and the gas mileage. Not in the market but this will be in my top 5 (and the only pickup) when they get a hybrid.
I agree with you on the push button shifter - they are all shift by wire now but the response timing on Honda's push button is so SLOW and when you are trying to back a trailer up and you are blocking traffic while doing so - the push button is not user friendly it needs to have a gear shift and they need to increase the response when shifting from D to R - you literally are giving it gas before the transmission engages in the gear you are trying to put it in
at 10:35 do they still use the cheap plastic gear on the back seat retractor for the legs?
All that "not a real truck" slander was started by Ford/Chevy/Toyota because they knew the Ridgeline would cut into their profits. It worked. Ridgeline is the most misunderstood vehicle on the market.

The only thing these are missing is better ground clearance and a better stereo system, and camera system

I love my honda ridgeline 2024 trailsport, it the truck 90 percent of american's need and also the truck most people are looking for in a midsize. My only complaint is I wish they did a 1in lift on the trailsport model. just to give it a more offroad capable vehicle. I mean they did stamp Trailsport on it
Is the V6 still a timing belt that needs to be replaced as a maintenance item? I agree with Zack that there needs to be more cheap trucks on the market for basic use. (My current 2010 Chevy Colorado w/regular cab and windup windows, 4 cyl is a perfect example for the type of truck I'd like to find again for work around the house. All the new midsized trucks are huge compared to the past ones and concentrate more on the interior comforts rather than the exterior functionality, all have a big cab and a smaller bed now.)

Does ‘24 have front facing camera for a 360 degree camera view?
My coworker has one of these (I think it is about 3 years old now) and loves it. Gives the utility of a small truck, which typical Honda reliability. The only thing I'd like to see (at least with the TrailSport trim) is increased ground clearance.
I am a bit surprised that Motormouth never mentioned that Honda is still using a timing belt. I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey van that requires a "maintenance" replacement every few years costing about $2,000 every 6 years. I love the van but it makes me wonder why they stick with the timing belt.
Honda makes good cars but you are right Honda needs to get rid of the Timing Belts and eliminate the $900 repair bill at 100,000 miles. they already want you to change the rear differential fluid at roughly 15,000 miles not sure why they require this non of my toyotas ever wanted me to change this fluid until about 100,000 miles according to the Toyota dealer I went to. Which I have owned 5 or 6 toyotas and put over 100.000 miles on 1 of them and all the rest I put over 75,000 miles on them
It’s crazy to think that I had a 360 camera on my 2008 infinity ex35. I don’t get why it’s not standard in the 20’s models
These are a great little truck. I looked for a used one but pricing was just too high. I went with an 2016 F150 4x4 with the 2.7 eco boost instead with a 100k one owner for $30K. Seems like I am getting the same gas mileage as my friends Ridgeline. But the elephant in the room the price of these now are over $60K new and at 7.49% over 84 months your paying $75 thousand bucks. Awesome review !!!!
That is in Canadian and event then top model is $59000 and not $75000. I have no idea where you got the $75K Canadian from? In US they are $45000 for top trim while other trucks are base $60000-$65000 and up from there, so for most people this truck works out great because many never even take it off road and this one in Trailsport trim does great on regular overlanding, it's just not rock crawling but it is not trying to be.
They were saying that the total price of you include the interest charged to you when you finance your payments. The lender charges you interest, which if it's 7%< you are paying that interest on top of the listed price you agree to pay.
Also, Canada's prices are more (in Canadian dollars) because the Canadian dollar is roughly 70% of the value of the American dollar.
@@savethisforlaterI see, but, again, in US other trucks, true trucks, are $20k-$50k more than Ridgeline yet most of them are never driven with very heavy loads or on truly rough terrain . I can see this pickup as perfect for for probably 50-70% of drivers. If it wasn't for my garage length and fact that I need room for large kennel and sometimes three of them, would totally get it instead of Passport. So many guys that I know get tough trucks with poor MPG and brag about it then never ever take them off-roading. My son is one of them 😂 ( minus bragging) but keeps it pristine and would get heart attack if rock would ding it. Tacoma has cramped cabin and Dealers add over msrp in US, so I just feel that this is good deal for current times.
Potholes and flooding, can the Ridgeline handle both here in Houston??

The 9 speed ZF transmission in my 2017 Pilot cratered after 75,000 miles. I would be cautious unless Honda you can confirm that Honda has addressed the issues with the 9 speed.
I find it wild, they are making the unibody designs more and more capable with a multi-link rear. Ram and Toyota has gone with the IRS rear end. It can be done. I'd be a buyer if Honda adds more to the frame to increase the payload and towing. Add more to the front end styling. The '25 is getting the 10 Speed. Put a 4Lo option on the TS, offer an upgrade to push the six to 300 hp and more torque. It would need higher octane but it will get it closer to GM's 2.7.
I hope that they don't do any of that ,lol. Honda could make another truck, and I could care less, but leave the Ridgeline alone.
I'm not arguing that prices haven't increased but I paid around $55k for my Ridgeline Touring in 2018 so $5K increase for the current top model (Touring model no longer available) isn't totally unreasonable.
That said, I took a look at this refresh model... The new armrest / storage seems a little flimsy compared to the previous version. Also the individual armrests on the prior model could be adjusted.
The in-bed speaker system has been deleted. Perhaps people didn't use it but Honda could have replaced it with something else like a 360 camera.
Some cost cutting it seems.
Have always liked the looks and interior of the 2nd gen Ridgeline. Only downside is towing.
To comments like this about towing, I say...go buy a full size truck if you want to tow a full size load.
Anything above 5000 lbs you need a full size truck for safety sake. Doesn't much matter if a mid sized truck can tow more, because STOPPING a large load is the real problem, and also stability because your load is heavier than your truck.
@jameslester4474 Unfortunately this is not accurate as the majority of the manufacturers making mid-size pick-ups that Tow less than a full size but much more than the Ridgeline. As I said this is the only thing holding it up.
I still love my 2011 Ridgeline EX-L with every option you can imagine. The problems is that I want something more fuel efficient without giving up the size and comfort. If it was a hybrid, they would have a sale! I can still buy a lot of “extra” gas for $60,000.
I think a 360 camera should be on at least one model! Pilot has cameras all over the Trailsport, why not the Ridgeline?
To me, pick up trucks are a working truck not like a SUV or a cars. I guess Zack would buy this one. 😆 😉 Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️

If Honda had done the Trailsport like Subaru with their Wilderness models and gave the Ridgeline about 10” inches of ground clearance from the factory, I would’ve considered trading my Tacoma. But since Honda only sells them with street ground clearance, I’ll wait & see how the new Tacoma Hybrid does and see if the new Gen Ridgeline ever comes out. 😕

One point about the Maverick - it is not AWD here in the US. That’s kind of a deal breaker for me.
Love my 23' Ridgeline, such a great daily driver. Yes Andrea, a 360 camera should at least be an option. Do you think the Maverick will be as reliable over time?
On my second Ridgeline lease. Such a comfortable daily driver and it is really great on long trips. The perfect truck for most people that aren't towing a lot. I didn't see enough difference in the 24 over the 23 so got a great deal on last years model.
Unfortunately that foot emergency brake sticks out way to far and hits my leg in an uncomfortable spot. Was hoping they went to an e brake but nope

Zack. You’re not comparing the Maverick Lariat hybrid with a Ridgeline I hope. It can barely tow and no awd for still a high price. And the mpg greatly diminishes in Canadian winters. It’s just not a comparable
My guess is the tailgate can't be damped as it has the swing-open option.
I got hands and arms. I can lower the tailgate myself. Not a deal breaker.

Honda needs to put the Amber Turn Lamps BACK on the tail lamps like they have on the other models …it had them the first model year??
