Mr. Young, I always wanted to say hello to you and thank you for the great memories. My best pal and I in High School used to listen to your early records for hours while hanging out and driving around. thanks.
My only son died from melanoma at 24 summer 2015. Neil's songs seem helpful with pain of the loss. My run is long but son's was not so.May you have a long run my friends.
Brian i loved your sentiments...his songs never get old...classics..i played this at 19 when it first came out...and still so beautiful and powerful...Dad's Music indeed...
Stirs the soul... I always had some Neil Young filed in a play list titled "Dad's Music". The original version of this song never made it to that playlist. But this version is superb in any era. I know I'll get bashed here, but as mesmerizing as Mr. Young's voice is, if he never sings a word on this video, I think the song is every bit as wonderful. The way he plays the organ and harmonica with an intent and precise looseness, for lack of a better term, is on its own incredibly moving. If I can find this version on mp3, it will be in both the "Epic" and the "Dad's Music" playlists from now on.
Ed your son really did run long but not to you. I get it. My own journey has included loss and from this I learned what's important. We will meet later. Our children are waiting for us. Peace.
Thank you for the wonderful music you bring along with you. Long may you run neil, hope you will come to Israel and bring your music to the people here.
neil j ll will see him in festival des vieilles charues in july, last time j think we will see neil live in concert ,great man j love it since 40 years
A Buick straight-8, IIRC... A truly lovely song about something as inanimate as a car; but for some reason, they can touch us more than we realize... our car = our life = our time. They are forever and inexorably connected.
grandma had that same pump organ, great exercise and sound like nothing else, plus its portable,(see the handles on the side) with little shelf places for your candles or oil lamps. i'll conclude with neil young is timeless
Neil's beloved Pontiac hearse, "Mort" (a.k.a. "Mortimer Hearseburg"), was the inspiration for this song. Neil drove "Mort" from Toronto to Los Angeles, where he met Stephen Stills and formed Buffalo Springfield. Neil was in Canada driving to Sudbury when 'Mort' broke down in Blind River, June 1965. (Which is contradictory to the lyrics; "well it was back in Blind River, in 1962, when I last saw you alive").
as much as i like the acoustic guitar this song was just perfect on this organ. flashbacks to my old friend who died in 1978, we used to listen to csn&y all the time. long may you run donald.
But Stills isn't in this video! I hope you know the difference between Neil Young and Stephen Stills. This is Neil Young alone singing a song that he wrote. Stills had nothing to do with this.
" Mortimer Hearseberg, and it was actually a 1948 Buick Roadmaster. Neil was driving, Mort II, the '53 Pontiac, when he caught the eye of Richie Furay and Stephen Stills on Sunset Boulevard in 1966, and which reportedly precipitated their forming Buffalo Springfield."
What an incredibly brilliant choice to play the organ (what kind is it? very ornate). Neil Young is one of my musical influences, and I was fortunate to see him during his Rust Never Sleeps tour (which rocked). Suggestion: If you get the chance to see him, do so without hesitation.
This was from the Stills/Young Band tour.. That was short lived.. I did see them at Nassau Coliseum.. in NY.. and Poco was the opening band...If I remember right.. they each did an acoustic set.. then electric set together.Stephen Stills was in this tour... just not in this video. The tour ended early when Stephen and Neil .. had a disagreement.. and the rest of the tour was cancelled. Too bad... because it was great to see them play together...
Oh for God's sake - get over yourselves! The uploader obviously thought that Stills was included as this was first release by the Stills Young band. Either way, I just love this live version.
It seems that you are the one who should get over it. People are simply pointing out the fact that this video is mislabeled and Stephen Stills not only isn't in it but the song was written by and is being performed by Neil Young alone. I think you need to relax and take a sedative.

I have been playing this tune with piano and in my opinion it works very well but this is awesome too.
Stephen Stills is great on drums here.

Here's hoping Neil will keep on making music for all the years to come.
If Neil was perched with his voice and wonderfully unique organ and harmonica in say the balcony of a any church--I think I could be enticed to go.

Oh!! its a kind of sad and lonely blue thing, perfect on the organ.
A Buick straight-8, IIRC... A truly lovely song about something as inanimate as a car; but for some reason, they can touch us more than we realize... our car = our life = our time. They are forever and inexorably connected.
This song always makes me sad.

can't believe no one has read his books. This song is about a hearse he took from Canada to LA. Great song about loving cars. And Neil loves cars!
as much as i like the acoustic guitar this song was just perfect on this organ. flashbacks to my old friend who died in 1978, we used to listen to csn&y all the time. long may you run donald.
dtwhitehouse the older we get, the more Donalds we know, soon enough we are Donald too
It's a reed organ, an instrument rarely used today.
Neil Young, good for the soul, so awesome.
Love the pump organ btw very hard to play !!! The old hippie " byrdman 62 " enough said !!!!!
Hang in Ed...you're getting stronger! Bless you sir. Long May You Run
This is from the concert in Austin Texas and was part of the Silver & Gold Video from 1999 or so - at least in Australia that is.

Stills just brilliant here as usual lol
What Stills?
I was joking. Get it?
lol, I'm with sumflow, and Joshua, on this one.
And Dharri, above, said it best, "Neil is a treasure............"
Nobody noticed Stills in there. You have a good eye and ear. Yep, he's brilliant.
But Stills isn't in this video! I hope you know the difference between Neil Young and Stephen Stills. This is Neil Young alone singing a song that he wrote. Stills had nothing to do with this.
What a song!
Shivers up and down my spine! x
The title might be wrong, but this video is still pretty amazing
Got to see him play his organ, The Damage and the Needle Done. So lucky. George, WA at the Gorge.
Another Best of the Best along with Four Strong Winds!
I doubt there'll ever be another Neil Young.
1968 Mercury Park Lane Brougham. "Freeway Dancer." - Classy lady, RIP.

Genius!
understatement!!!!
Love this song… thought Stills was going to step on stage and sing harmony!
Brilliant song !
Actually it's about his first car "Mort" which was a hearse which broke down during a road trip.

Too bad... because it was great to see them play together...
🥺
Neil... Long may you run
Good times, good friends.
Long may they run!
Neil with haicut and impeccably trimmed trademark sideburns (looks like French composer Cesar Franck who also played organ...).
What a cool old organ.
How old is Neil Young??? ive got an old pump antique organ he can play anytime, lobe his music
You too Neil, long may we run! Or walk fast anyway.
This song is for all the people that have been where Neal was when he wrote it ...with his 2 sons ...
This is an 1886 Estey parlour harmonium, extensively restored. Beautiful sound, great song.

To answer some questions about Mr. Stills. Stephen Stills is in the audience. :)
This actually looks like an ANTIQUE PUMP ORGAN. I was looking for those old Neil and Stills, dueling guitars.
ruclips.net/video/fWMGFnXHk44/видео.html Neil Young Stephen stills Buffalo Springfield rehearsal.
The song that can make the Hell's Angels cry.
Yes!
well done
Oh for God's sake - get over yourselves! The uploader obviously thought that Stills was included as this was first release by the Stills Young band. Either way, I just love this live version.
The uploader is an idiot who shouldn't have been given the job of uploading videos to an official channel. Easy dislike on this video.
It seems that you are the one who should get over it. People are simply pointing out the fact that this video is mislabeled and Stephen Stills not only isn't in it but the song was written by and is being performed by Neil Young alone. I think you need to relax and take a sedative.
LEGENDDD
