Yep, I agree with you.
Ye many cappers in this social media filled with titles such as “CEO, Real estate investor, Public figure, crypto invested, finance consultant, nail tech entrepreneur” who not even bringing in 4k a month
i started in the merchant marine in 1976,and stayed in the industry until 2007...i always tell young men to look into the industry,if you can stand to be away from home, you'll make nice money and not have to work all year...i never worked more that 7 months, which means i was home for 5 months a year!
What u made a year in 7 months?
I’ve been interested in this for a while but I’m curious to what the work entails
Can you work the entire year???
I appreciate your advice man, I really do. I’ve thought about joining the Navy or the coast guard, but I just found out about merchant marines and I’m doing a lot of research to see which one is best for me.
@@marionnichols7442 it's according to your rating,i sailed as "ABLE SEAMAN/TANKERMAN"you'll make money equal to any "skilled tradesman"!
Bro. I hope this doesn’t get lost in the comments… but thank you for what your doing I am coming up on 14 years sailing, it used to be a secretive world no one knew how to get into it, your making it very accessible to the public and hope it inspires future generations

I own an Electrical Contracting company in Hawaii- Electrician for 46 years- I make stupid money, live on the ocean, trophy wife and have trained many apprentices, (much like yourself) and showed them the value of knowledge and hard work- Many of them now own THEIR OWN companies that are much bigger than mine- When they see me they always thank me for what I shared with them- You should be proud of your work and your accomplishments! Well done Sir! (and you have some cool videos- Keep it up!) ALOHA from Hawaii!

of course! Met her on a service call 19 years ago- Renovated her whole apartment into a palace- for nothing. Most beautiful girl I ever seen!@@josephpeters7076

He speaking Factz, the career pays off in the long run. To work in this industry, you actually do not need a high school diploma. I been in the industry for 16 plus years. Same here but navy. I love my job in the navy but you dont that much money since there is no "overtime"
So you are stuck with your pay.
Great Video, I am a Mariner myself! Also, food is free, no utilities, gas etc! With some discipline you can save up and get a good start in life.
I am glad to see people tell people you do not need a college degree to make good money. You need a trade or training and you make college salaries or even more.
Good money. You could stay state side and be a truck driver otr make $4000-$6000 a month. But traveling seeing the world in the plus in your field. That vacation check looks great. Keep making that money young fella.
Hey Brother, great video. I'm retiring from the Army soon and consdiering a career change, so I appreciate the inforamation. You should set up a roth ira with vanguard and put 25% in.
He can only put $6k per year in an IRA. Max out the Roth 401K first, then the Roth IRA. The minute he leaves the company, he can directly transfer the Roth 401K into the Roth IRA and it doesn't count against the limit. It's a way to max out retirement.
Was going to say the same thing. Put away for retirement. You’re young and healthy now but you won’t always be and it sucks having to work when your body isn’t up for the task the way it use to be. Hard to visualize the need when you’re young. Money put away now earns a pile of interest that compounds. ANd it compounds tax free which is also cool. Good luck
Current truck driver, but heavily considering getting into this
Man the siu should pay you for your advertising, cause you have got me sold.
Damn your right .. they definitely should 😅

They're coming to the Merchant Marine as well. When I started in the 70's, large container ships carried a crew of 45. Now most of them carry 25 or less. The US Merchant Marine only has about 30,000 sailors and that includes a lot of Fisherman. The US only carries about 3% of world cargo on American flagged ships. The only advantage you might get depends on how mentally and physically tough you are. The turnover rate is huge in the unlicensed ranks, most guys don't last all that long. If you do go out there, save your money.
Question, In Section 2 - Other Pay, what's the difference between Overtime vs. Premium pay? Is the difference in pay depending on the type of work, day of the week, or something else? Do you know before your shift begins which type of OT rate you're working under, i.e. On this specific day, I worked for 4 hours under the Premium rate vs the Overtime rate? Thanks in advance for the response. Take care and stay safe.
Overtime is when you work outside of the normal work hours
While penalty could be , working on watch when your not supposed too or going into a tank to clean or working aloft .. things of that nature
@@Tr3TV2022 Appreciate the reply. Love the vids. Take care of yourself and stay safe. Thanks.

How often did you chip and paint, if ever? I'm a painter in Newport News shipbuilding on the USS George Washington that's under going overhaul.
I want to work in the engine room, however I already have 2 years experience as a painter and have pretty much been in every part of the ship.
Also props to going out there and keeping the video clear cut. Would much rather work 5 or 10 years on ships and retire early vs working till I'm 65+ to retire 🤣
Good stuff.
Hey quick question, when you pay taxes, is it taxed by your home state or the corporate office for SIU? Thanks boss!
Do you only get one vacation check or multiple when not working?
So the payment at the bottom of the page is what you ended up with, or did that first week check get added into it also?
