The film cost a lot even though the cost was mostly ballooned by COVID, and particularly Tom Cruise insisting on keeping the crew salaried while filming halted. 18:50 Andor didn't have great viewership "ratings", but *across the board Andor has amazing critic and user ratings - among the highest rated SW projects of the last decade*
Justifiably so: Andor has outstanding writing and performances. It was a more serious and solemn take on Star Wars, and had superb world building and character development.
Sometimes it's alright if your project underperforms in viewership if it generates an extremely positive critical response, as Andor did -- the "street cred" it generates for the IP is worth it.
In doing so, Andor easily secured itself a second season.
Season 2 finished shooting a couple months ago.
Nielsen Ratings don't always determine a show's longer term viability. Sometimes quality prevails.

Anime is also thriving, with new, crazy, unique stories being made all the time (plus, they hand draw and computer generate their work).

Because the reality is that score is not based solely on quality of the product. It’s based around things that have nothing to do with the shows writing, directing, and acting. Hence the reviewed bombed audience score BEFORE the show even debuted and even reached its first 15 mins of availability on Disney+. No honest reporter is going to take that seriously in the slightest because genre movie fans have a very consistent and specific pattern on audience scores that always make them null & void when it comes to analyzing. The quibbling isn’t over nothing but what it is over INITIALLY has nothing to do with the quality. The quality is just the excuse always given everytime, but that’s not why the score is so low because even bad shows don’t get that low. Doesn’t matter if it was a excellent show it would still get those audience scores and you know it lol it’s the reality for genre movies/shows audience scores now that get outrage from a group online and it’s been this way since 2019.
