- The BMW M5 has arrived! It's been a busy week, with a trip to the BMW Welt to collect the M5 as the icing on the cake. The latest Shmeemobile arrives to be the daily driver in Germany, a car from BMW M and hence there will be a lot of content to come as we get to know it inside-out.
The 6th Gen M5 mixes incredible performance with vast levels of technology, making it a super-saloon and a dream daily driver. I'll be taking the car to events like the Nurburgring 24H, Le Mans 24H and on other adventures around the continent as I get to know the M5 over many thousands of miles. We'll also be making special visits to venues like the factory, BMW individual, and experimenting more with the intelligent M xDrive system and the ability to pop it purely into 2WD mode - if 4WD/4WD Sport isn't your thing.
The car comes with thanks to BMW M who have very kindly provided it for test purposes over the coming months. As a car of particular interest to both myself and many of you - this seems like the perfect time to get to know what it's all about and put it through its paces.
To kick things off, a collection experience was lined up at the famous BMW Welt in Munich. It's a location home to handovers of cars to those from the USA and Canada doing 'European Delivery', but also to almost 20,000 customers from Germany, Italy, France and more who choose to come to the factory for the experience. As a way to have a memorable time collecting a new car, I honestly could not recommend it enough, it felt truly special and exciting.
It's been a busy week, collecting my Dad's Aston Martin DB11, then both my new Ford Focus RS Heritage Edition and Red Edition, and now the long-term test car BMW M5, but certainly one I won't forget as the new adventures for this summer get underway!

German Autobah is actually really safe, number of death accidents there is very low compared to other roads/countries... Generally most deadly car accidents is not caused by high speed, but by some other causes.
In Germany less accidents happen then in the US.

This car is beyond impressive! Looking at those numbers climb so easily on the dashboard is insane. 190,210,240,260km/h and so effortlessly. Congrats Tim! I’m picking up my 2018 SQ5 in a week so I know how this excitement feels. Keep it up!

How do you feel about M5 competition? Would you have waited
Well it was revealed just 2 days ago which means it's a while until they touch the roads. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to drive it in the not too distant future but as this is a car from BMW M's own fleet, it was an opportunity to tie in now to the Nurburgring 24H this weekend and Le Mans 24h in a few weeks

HA! Thank you for bringing up the MANY many tests where the M5 has proven its speed. I am personally a bmw fan, but I am not one to say that M>AMG since I love all cars. BUT, most AMG fans simply discard the M5 which is ridiculous given its history and its outstanding performance.
That’s an amazing collection day to be sure. How polite and respectful is the technician guiding the walk through. Very cool!

May sound weird but i love the smell of the bmw interior more than anyone. For some reason they mantain the same familiar smell for years and being the smell you will smell for years when you ride your car i think is importan. I tryed this once total monster.
I remember picking up a BMW 135i in 2009 at the BMW Welt and the experience still sticks with me. Money very well spent. The drive back to Dortmund was a bit dreadful since the car was still in the break-in period

@GKY anche tu ita? no ho un 330d e90 con un sacco di modifiche, al motore ho cambiato il turbo con una turbina hybrid, tolto fap e bypass egr, scarico, filtro sportivo, mappa, iniettori maggiorati, iniezione di acqua e metanolo.. e rullati ho 376cv e 634n/m di coppia.. è un bel mostro l'unica roba è il turbo lag che non è scomparso, e il cambio che è lo steptronic a 6 marce che non è un fulmine.. poi di assetto ho messo molle eibach ammortizzatori bilstein, freni zimmermann forati sia dietro che davanti con pastiglie sportive, ho messo l'intercooler del 335i e forse mi sfuggono altre modifiche

Mrdmrcn I have already seen it, but it’s wrong. All other car magazines say the M5 is faster. And the M5 is 10s faster on the Nürburgring. So I guess you have no idea.
Here are the GPS measured acceleration times directly out of the magazine in 0-100/200 order (0-300 times are not stated in the magazine):
BMW M5: 3,3/10,9 sec
Mercedes AMG E63 S: 3,5/11,1 sec
Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid: 3,4/11,5 sec
