    I just don't understand why? The car is in good condition! The metal is thick with a gas cutter and can barely cut.
    In India, they would have ripped it off with their hands, tweaked it, and it would have driven for 20 years without all these problems.

      @@regsparkes6507 I wonder why? This car ranks first in terms of safety and therefore must be durable and reliable

    • @nwie9mm261
      @nwie9mm261 Год назад +2

      Because the car is at the end of its lifetime.
      The technical condition cannot be assessed from afar. What do the brakes look like, lines, cracks in the frame, knocked out joints, loss of oil, ...
      The truck has been assembled on the assembly line in a highly efficient manner. A revision is not worthwhile when it comes to wages! And for some parts, the manufacturer does not even allow it!
      In Korea, like in Germany, there seems to be a control body that regularly checks the vehicles for safety and specification.
      I'm interested in watching what's going on in India or Pakistan...
      But these cobbled together vehicles would not drive one meter in Germany! No way!
      That may still be possible in Pakistan, but in Germany 48 million (in Korea 25 million) cars and 4 million trucks/buses are registered! No room for uncertainties!

    It was somewhat surprising to see the apparently fully functional and serviceable truck just drive in and then just be dismantled with apparently little attempt to recover and resale valuable components. And a number of those cars being dismantled looked to be low time, low mileage cars in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. There were a lot of high value parts which were just destroyed instead of being pulled and sold on to keep other cars in service.
    I saw a number of dismantling steps that seemed unnecessary for cars just being destroyed. Lots of manual labor involved. I get why you remove fluids, wheels and tires, but when you run the car through a shredder, there ate a variety of material separation technologies which make it faster and less costly to scrap vehicles.
    One time I was visiting a recycling center and watched two guys operating excavators with interchangable shearing jaws and grapples process a whole car in only 5 to 10 minutes from start to finish. When they were done, the car was plucked cleaner than a roasted diner chicken. The dexterity those guys operated that equipment with was absolutely incredible. Big trucks and buses? No problem they could make short work of them two. Those shears chopped through those heavy truck frames and structural steel members like it was a potato chip.

      In smaller countries, particularly in Asia, registration, insurance, and inspections gets exponentially more expensive the older the vehicle gets. Larger vehicles with bigger displacement engines and heavier weight cost more than the average kei car to register. It comes down to more of the cost to keep it on the road versus the cost of scrapping it. If your car cost $1000 to register it, $1000 for insurance and $500 for another year of inspection, but only worth $5000, it starts to become cost ineffective after factoring in future maintenance and repairs.
      Not to mention, Asian countries pretty much recycle everything back down to raw materials to make new vehicles, unlike in the US where only about 50-65% of the materials in a vehicle are recycled. Our recycling process is much more expensive primarily because we don't have manufacturer-backed programs for the responsible disposal of a vehicle.
