Makes one wonder if Neil Peart would’ve corrected his posture earlier in his career he would not have had the pain issues he reported mid to late career. His posture in the “show of hands” live shows looks painful, like his back is going to snap in half. And that is 1988ish! Rip
I'll never forget in San Antonio Texas the state of euphoria tour at the sunken gardens theatre judgemental,Fight and Anthrax.i was drum tech for my buds in local band Judgemental.i got to watch Charlie from behind the kit the entire show.i was in heaven.you never knew Charlie...but for me was incredible!
One of my all time favorite drummers and biggest influences. I watched the NFV (Among the Living Live) video a billion times during the 80's trying to see what he was doing and learn.
that tempo change he initiates is always riveting, completely epic drive in it! love seeing it live, it just tears the place up. it so happens anthrax are at every metal fest what a blessing.
Dude, I have got to tell you that right now you are such a huge influence on my playing. I'm gonna be 41 this October and I am rediscovering metal and Anthrax is on my playlist daily. I spent all my formative years learning a lot of bullshit on the drums instead of following my true passion, which was to play fast and play hard! YOU RULE MR.BENANTE.
mad armed and dangeous charlie benate as a young punk metal drummer in the late eighties was the bar i practiced drumming to anthrax with just drumsticks and pillows set out as a kit for years before my mum got me an ancient seventies disco kit love u charlie x
Charlie, you are my favorite drummer. I bought 20 pairs of your Signatur sticks. And ich bought your Signatur snare ❤️❤️❤️❤️you play sooooooooooo awesome!!!!!
no no no, just helping out while Charlie dealt with some important home/personal issues that kept him from the road this past summer - he's still the man, and always will be, and I'm back to work with Shadows Fall, but anytime I can help out is an honor.
I had no idea you had a RUclips channel, and it's awesome. Please keep it going! Also a video of Anthrax at the gate of Area 51 would be so cool. Thank you!!!
I've been backstage more than a few times doing security work, it's amazing how different the sound is. The sound is meant to be projected outwards. What's that like for you? And I understand that you have ear monitors, maybe not always the case from way back
Master at work! Yo Charlie, you are definitely among those drummers ive admired ever since i heard Spreading the disease some years back around '85, hehe. You are a fantastic drummer and im glad that you are still doing what you love. Much love from Finland. Keep those sticks flying, man :D
I love drum cam videos. So that's what a real ride is supposed to sound like. Someone should tell Lars Ulrich he's been playing the wrong thing for years lol. Seriously though, awesome work as always.
Charlie Benante Zildjian is better...I got some Paiste Rudes with my first kit...hated them...later on bought a couple of 2000’s the 18” china was really good...2002’s are good and the giant beats...anyway, why play Paiste, when there’s Zildjian...😂😂😂
Yes indeed,I use a 16,17,18,20 inch alpha crashes and crash ride, 22 inch ride ,16 and 18 nova China's, some custom 13 inch sound edge rude hi hats, and 14 inch alpha hat's, and a 10 and 12 alpha splash cymbals, they can take more of a beating than any other manufacturers I've ever used, paiste for ever.
Watching this vid, I'm reminded on how much Charlie gets his technique from Chris Frantz (Talking Heads). A lot of the drum tracks on Among the Living- and those other '80s Anthrax discs, they are just "Take Me to the River" with a couple extra fills thrown in.
Still playing it kind of slow, but not as slow as it was on the Big 4 DVD, yet not as fast as it was in 1987. I don't mean for this to be taken personally, I'm just making an observation. Anthrax is still one of my favorite bands of all time... ahead of the rest of the big 4!
@jasonbittner Saw you play at Mayhem fest, just wanted to say you kicked ass! Wasn't to bumed out to not see Charlie because i had already seen them at the Big 4. I'll be checking Shadow Fall out, some really great stuff!
Can't wait to see this for real when you hit Portsmouth, UK. Damn - Download seems such a long time ago already. I don't know much about drumming, but this guy's the best right?
Italians either invented everything or we made it better once we got our hands on it. Fireworks, the noodle, heavy metal, electronic music, etc, etc, etc
It's scary how drummers like Charlie, Dave Lombardo, Gene Hoglan, & Tom Hunting just seem to get better with age!
I believe it's called practice or experience.... or both!
@@Ch3ewthat yeah we know smart guy
and then we have..........lars
properly trained musicians will do that.

Him and Dave Lombardo are my favorite drummers.
Ty Manning- Lars could.....
Be used as a rag to wipe the floor clean of sweat after anthrax & suicidal perform.
Ever notice Dave stoped playing his bass drum during his fills? Charlie was and is better.
We are on the same page my two most favourite metal drummers!
These two and Menza for me.
I hear ya! and Mike Portnoy :-)
one of the greatest and underrated thrash or even metal drummers ever
Fucking top Drummer I agree with you comment. Charlie is a 10/10 from me with Drumming.
And bands. Definitely the most underrated Big 4 band.
He is also the main riff writer for Anthrax , in fact he is a very good guitar player, and Frank Bello uncle
Dave Grohl is fastest
Dave grohl is good, so is lars ulrich, but neither hold a candle to this guy!
Thanks! You are my favorite fan!
YOU ARE SO BAD ASS
6 years and only 12 upvotes, you really one of us ;)
Youve always been one of my favorite drummers dude and biggest inspirations man,Thanks!!

Those drums sound so punk, I love it.
Hell fucking yes. Can't wait to get Caught In A Mosh May 20th, 2015 in Chicago.
Charlie you are the man!!!!
Over 50 years old and he's still killin it
Venomous Soup i know thats the scary part
Gods like Dave and Charlie don’t age like normal people.
The man is, always has been, and always will be a fucking machine.
This reminds me of when metal was fun...
Thanks for posting this.
One of my FAVORITE BANDS since the 80s...BENANTE!!!
Look at that audience from that position. Must be a blast to play these songs for those crazy crowds night after night!

It’s crazy when you remember that Charlie has written the majority of Anthrax songs…. on guitar. Scary ass musician.
I just started listening to Anthrax this week and I cannot get enough!!!! Rock on :)
that tempo change he initiates is always riveting, completely epic drive in it! love seeing it live, it just tears the place up. it so happens anthrax are at every metal fest what a blessing.
My favorite band of the Big 4. Only had a chance to see them twice, but I'm so glad I did.
4:35 Perfect Drumming!!!
I saw Anthrax in 1988 (I tihnk) at Cobo in Detroit with Helloween and Exodus. That show was amazing. Thank you!
Always been a fan of Anthrax, and always loved each one of you in the band.

Hero, from early 1980s to 2021! Now, to me, 1 of the few existing metal drummers from this era.
mad armed and dangeous charlie benate as a young punk metal drummer in the late eighties was the bar i practiced drumming to anthrax with just drumsticks and pillows set out as a kit for years before my mum got me an ancient seventies disco kit love u charlie x
I've been a fan of Charlie and Anthrax since the Spreading The Disease album, and when S.O.D was created. Still I am.
Hail Charlie!!
You are fucking awesome! I've always been inspired by your drumming Charlie :D Hopefully I can meet you one day!
Seriously, you don't wanna meet him.
why?

By far the one drummer that I've always wanted to meet. Too bad they don't have like a contest or something to have a drum master class with Charlie!
So underrated so damn good great in the studio and absolutely killer live.

Thanks. Paiste is the best!
The best metal drummer ever
Charlie is one of my most favorite drummers ever...
One of the best drummers in metal!
What a song, such a killer buildup!!!
Dave and Charlie are the reason that we have super fast double bass playing, they are the governor's.
Thanks for noticing the comment mate, see you next year in October, already got my ticket
Cool drummer nice style
That brings back some good memories from my youth. Ah to be a teenager again. Thanks Charlie. 🤘
Charlie 🙏 those splashes and that double kick 👊✌️🤘🥁🏴🇦🇺
Benante, Bello, Belladona... Seems as these people are from Italian descendance.
Criminally underated
Awesome video Char! Great view! Thanks for the upload.
The reason why Charlie is among my favorite thrash drummers.
I've recently been really getting into this guy's playing. Really tasteful and fun but plenty heavy. Makes me want to headbang but with a smile haha.
This is from Anthrax 30. I've been recently watching Anthrax 40 videos, goddam!! 40 years!! .....and still going, awesome band!
Amazing drummer!
Last 10 seconds LMAO. You're awesome Charlie.
I would love to see more vids like this! You're an amazing talent Charlie, love watching you play!

Seen him live. Caught In A Mosh was awesome. Slayer mothers day 2018.
Larry Owens did you take your mom though?

Wow - this IS really close to Take Me to The River - just sped up a little bit. I'm surprised no one else has brought that up.
I’m bad at music that I needed to go listen to Take Me to the River to get the joke.
