i believe he is absolutely right. bitcoin was groundbreaking technology when it first came out. but with everything else it gets replaced by something clearly much superior. just like how the first smartphones aren’t used anymore, or the first cars aren’t used anymore, the first cryptocurrency will not be used in the future, but it will be remembered as the start in a whole new wave of technology.

Another reason as to why Monero is more usable is the network fees.
I bought some (non-KYC) sats from a local ATM to my address. I waited for some value to accumulate, after which I decided to use it to buy a soda.
First, I tested sending to a dummy address to see if the fee could allow the transaction to take place. I lost about ~20,000 sats. For whatever reason, I them sent those bitcoins back to my original address, and this time I lost, yet again, 20,000 sats. I lost 40,000 satoshis in the end, ⅓ of what I initially owned.

So thats why he suicided. Not because he openly stated he didn't like paying taxes - but he came up with a decentralised exchanges which would make it difficult for governments to tax Crypto profits. all makes sense now. RIP. John is correct that markets can determine their value, however, he's not fully taking into consideration of the money makers, and those in power of the world today who are currently building the future of cryptocurrency, the ones that win out in the long term the most will be those selected assets that propel the power of those already in power, however, holding a few thousand dollars of XMR is a solid idea as there is two sides to the argument and XMR is the only one that holds up the other side of the argument.

John McAfee was a character. He was also a very bright man. But his arguments against bitcoin and other cryptos and arguments for privacy coins, like Monero. Are all coming for his personal desire for total privacy, because let's keep it real, John was up to some shady stuff. He brings up going to the dark web and seeing who's using Bitcoin to make his point. But that's not where most people exist.

@weebly Its piece of garbage compared to XMR. Monero is the likely successor of Bitcoin. It makes no sense to have public blockchain to store your value. Everyone can tell what addresses hold how many coins and literally track every transaction that goes in and out of those addresses... If you're BTC whale I'd be very careful because governments likely listen very closely to your addresses. With XMR you would not have this issue.

Well rest assured there are lots of coin options with different functions/utilities. Some like VET support supply chain, some like FileCoin support file storage, Waves supports business created incentive spending... Coins are being created to fit needs plain and simple. The ones that hit the niche mark will survive.
People that want to shirk paying taxes while driving on roads are part of the problem.
People that want to shirk paying child support while screwing and raping but don't want to have any accountability to the problems they create should be tracked and forced to pay. Plain and Simple. Do you want to live on a boat as a billionaire who was hiding in a prison and was murdered or do you want to pay a fair tax % and use the privileges that taxes buy and live large? OR do you want to freeload off the system until everything is broken?
Don't get me wrong, taxes are exploited and the system needs to be improved, but not paying anything while living with all the perks is freeloading and selfish.
And don't underestimate my last comment about the Pipeline and the hackers! That is some questionable information.

Having Gold means no one knows exactly how much you have Got. Anonymity, Fungibility and Privacy are all important features of anything that claims to be an asset.

But we already have the freedom of 'no one' knowing. But they can find ways to look and nothing is going to stop them, and I don't' see crypto as providing that either. IRS has a $625,000 bounty on breaking monero. McAfee was murdered. McAfee also pointed out that you can't make anything fungible w/o them knowing.

There are lots of assets and NONE of them are really anonymous are they? If I don't report it to IRS, IM the one in trouble. And what's the difference between anon and privacy? If you want to make purchases on the dark web, then you can already do what you're saying. When you opt for that you're at risk of everything else that could go wrong. No product shows up. Illegal product, tainted product, re-hacked, added to watch lists... TRADE is the only real option and you have to have enough and be able to get it where it's desired. Not easy.
Having a way to "buy" but not be tracked means hiding what you have from people who have the ability to track. What would pay taxes and provide roads, schools, (in some places) health care if people could hide unknown amounts of their money? It seems more like a fantasy than something real or useful.
XRP/XLM meet a REAL NEED - get money converted to any currency anywhere quickly and for very low prices. It's a real function that helps the world. How does monero help the world? Kidnappers demand to be paid in Monero. McAfee thwarted his troubles only temporarily and possibly brought attention to him through his avoidance and brazen lack of humility.
Legal and illegal are highly subjective. It was once illegal to help a slave escape. It was once legal to own slaves. When laws are tyrannical its our duty to break them.
I feel like I only need to add one more red page to McAfee’s book.

@@anthonygil4923 btc seen as a better store of value than eth, even after london hard fork. btc no longer seen as a great currency, seen as a great store of value. eth market cap may someday surpass btc but btc will always be valuable due to the hard cap on supply.
