I love the car, without a question - and I even had an RT/10 before in Germany, so I was aware of these flaws. I think, in general this car is a fascinating piece of history. This is why I don't care too much about these flaws. But with this video, I just want to make people that don't know the car aware of the not perfect details before buying it.
Don't open the hood like that, you'll damage it. Make sure you grab it in the middle. Also if the door to car is locked, the alarm will sound once you pop the hood
it is possible to reach the door handle with the trunk open. Just stand on the side of the car with the trunk open and reach for it. The seatbelts are reverse to make it easier to access or cut if you are stuck in the car.
I've had my GTS since new in 2001. Weirdness includes: *V10, with that 90° "burble" *Whicky-wappy wipers (no tie rod, two electrically synced motors) *Off-set pedals, (for the rearward V10 engine/trans intrusion) *Huge backlash in the drivetrain gears (clunky feel) *Huge flywheel (I put a lightweight one on) *Lots of torque way down low! *Hot ass side sills *Shitty interior materials (this was later fixed in the ill-fated Gen5) *Adjustable height pedal "box" *Huge clamshell hood *Double-bubble roof *Sneaky Pete chmsl *Drop-dead sexy styling! I've got like $30,000 in modifications, .mostly in the engine, drivetrain and suspension. Could keep going, but damn, it's like 20 years old, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. Funky old car with a ton of personality, which is refreshing in this cookie-cutter world! People still take pictures of it, (even in 2020!), and give thumbs up! A collectible for sure! That is, if you like collecting weird but cool cars!
It's a lot of work to drive it for sure. Especially considering there is no ABS or traction control it always means "Be prepared for the worst"! ;-) Love it anyway!
I have a black stock standard 1999 RT/10 and I find that the doors, trunk and hood all fit better than on the GTS, I never have any problem opening or closing anything on the car. The only thing that I don't like is the skip shift function on the transmission, for some reason you haven't mentioned that. I wouldn't swap or trade my Viper for anything, ever. Anyone who hasn't driven a Viper has no idea of how exciting the car is to drive.
Yes, most of what you say is true but. I have a 2001 GTS and Love it. You could have also said it DRINKS Gas, the Battery is a pain to get to, well that's all I can think of. I had a Vette that was nice but it couldn't hold a candle to my Viper. I subbed to your channel.
Thanks for subscribing, Garry! Yeah, I also agree regarding the battery and the fuel. Although fuel is still very cheap here in the US compared to Germany. :-)
Die Viper ist sehr eigen aber genau das macht sie doch aus. Für mich war die Gen 1 Viper die schönste. Mit all Ihren Fehlern. Und warum man bei der GTS auf die seitliche Auspuff Anlage verzichtet hat, werde ich wohl nie verstehen.
Replace the seats with Porsche design Recaro Racing Bucket Seats (thin reinforced padding-cushioning, light weight Recaro bucket seats). Install your own design version of rear diffuser setup on the undercarriage of the Viper to improve aerodynamics, sir.
Consult a Porsche engineer on how you can improve driver experience on the Viper by redesigning further only those things that do actually need redesigning
The best gen.Gen. 4 doesn't have most of these problems. Also has 8.4 liter V-10 w/600hp./560tq. and comes in convertible....I encourage anyone who's thinking of getting a Viper to ...................Wikipedia Viper to see what I mean. Peace
Yes, the car itself is light, but the door hinges for example are not able to hold the weight of the doors itself when you are talking about the doors of later models like mine having glass side windows. I previously owned an early RT/10 that had plastic side windows and here the door hinges were perfect. The hood itself feels heavy as it is a huge single part.
The steering wheel is way too big in diameter. Ask a Porsche engineer on how to replace the steering wheel with one that is a little smaller in diameter, sir.
The Viper is a Police car... and it freaks out curious people who approach you from near by . It is a total work out when driving the Viper. It is an Arnold Schwarzenegger kind of car to handle. Better get a Porsche Carrera next time instead. The Porsche is nicer and more luxurious.
Only cause you do not understand the car and why it was built,i got a ls1 camaro that destroys vipers. I moved out of sh!tty florida back to det and built my camaro.
Ya that was my mistake i saw the front end of the car so i assumed it was older my mistake. My Viper was a 1999 GTS so my front was different u know flared out. Im shocked that they went with that look for that year so for that i was disappointed. My year i believe was the best look Viper ever made ever. Black with the silver stripes is by far the best colour. My car was beside a Viper blue i got looks 10 to 1 compared to it. Red Yellow even Blue just doesnt give it the bomb look. And the Mags you have are the best of the best. Every car looks different and better in certain colours. I always thought the blue was the best but i soon found out it was not. Black all the way is a must with that car. Thanks

Thanks for the great video! But which of these two Vipers would you prefer / recommend? RT / 10 or GTS?
The GTS.
I rather buy a 2017 viper
The thing I hate the most about the 2000 Dodge Viper is that there isn't one in my garage right now.
:-)
So true!
That is the worst feature of it, completely agree 🙏
I wish RUclipsrs would quit showing people the "secret" hood latch. Its their fault that anyone knows about it other than Viper owners.
Yeah that’s a fact, it’s hidden for a reason only the owners should know about it.
Best vlog music ever, simply because it is not an annoying earpiercing dubsteb remix like every other vlogger. Thank you.
Don't open the hood like that, you'll damage it. Make sure you grab it in the middle. Also if the door to car is locked, the alarm will sound once you pop the hood
Correct. I always hate it when people pretend that it can just be opened by anyone without consequence. The alarm will go off.
Lamborghini assisted the Viper program in the beginning and their seat-belts were mounted like that.
it is possible to reach the door handle with the trunk open. Just stand on the side of the car with the trunk open and reach for it.

Dude you're back! Great editing, I kinda like that you have to use force to shut everything.
sup ?
My friend has a SR I Viper, it is a blast but it is a crazy car to live with.

G Lukes It is indeed exciting, that is absolutely true!
G Lukes You can buy a lockout kit for around $25
Cry me a river.
Or to open the door when the power is out, just pop the hood and put on a battery charger or go through the back.
Interessates Video Björn vielen Dank für den Einblick in deine Viper Greetz from Germany 😀
Nicely done, I've been meaning to make one of these myself
The reverse seat belts were done in order to get people out easier when they crash them.
Not the exact same Doug DeMuro viper review

Judging a car that’s literally 20 years old....
REAL VIPER OWNERS DON'T SHARE SECRETS OF THE SNAKE! NUFF SAID...

GerardPedrico What’s with you are Porsche? They are great, absolutely; I bought my first Porsche at 17. But there are other great companies too.
So glad I found your channel just subscribed
Thanks for subscribing, Charlie! :-)
i would sell a kidney for that car...

Love the car! Liked and subscribed. Check out my 2002 RT/10 some time.
I hate one thing overall, the fucking hot cabin cuz of the stock cats
Dear Sir if you still own this vehicle, I would love to put you out of your misery and take it away from you :)
nice car btw
Interessant...
Sick owner.
Are you Austrian?
German! ;-)
The car only weighs 3300lbs, yet you Complain about weight of the hood, & doors.. SMFH

The BM, fair enough

Tolles Auto! Leider nicht in Deutsch😕
Seit ein paar Videos spreche ich aber nun zumindest wieder Deutsch! :-)

Porsche sux. Glorified vw.
GerardPedrico I’ve had Porsche’s. I want a Viper

that is not a 2000 viper gts.................its like 90 something
This Generation of the Viper that I own was built until model year 2002. Mine is a model year 2000.
