Everyone mechanic has is own way of doing things, I really do appreciate this video,as I am a mechanic on all types of diesel engines, base here in Nigeria were I come from, pls currently looking for opportunity over there to do such Jobs, many thanks
Shouldn't reuse the fuel drained from the unit. It's a fuel/water processor. Majority of that first cup will be water depending on how often the water is drained and fuel quality that has been used. Besides, you just installed a new filter.
I have a same Hino as yours. I just did my fuel filter. I turn that knob and nothing came out. I use a thin piece of steel wire and poke it up...a lot of crap came out.
My Fuel-Pro 382 used both of those larger gaskets. Thicker one for the top clear bowl, and the second thinner seal for the bottom plate. My Fuel-Pro 382 developed a crack in the bottom plate and the truck parts wanted almost $700 to replace with brand new one which I couldn't afford. So I removed it from truck and converted to spin-on fuel filter assembly. Now as for refilling new filters both the Fuel-Pro 382 and spin-on filters of all types, I only use transmission fluid and nothing else. The thicker transmission fluid pulls diesel fuel from tanks faster and cleans fuel injectors and combustion parts of engine in one step. I learned that from a large mobile lube service I worked for many years ago which works perfect for all heavy equipment diesel engines especially CAT.
Be careful. Modern tranny fluid isn't the same as what the old timers were using. There's different additives in it which can mess around with some of your components. Same with 2 stroke oil. I've heard that Marvel Mystery Oil can be a good substitute.
One. Drain intire fuel housing. Check for dirt, or metal filings at bottom of housing. At sometime in the trucks life you will find, small aluminum shavings, which will indicate a fuel pump could be going bad. Clean and reassemble, using new fuel. Never use the old fuel.
I would still recommend draining all of the fluid. Contaminants collect at the bottom of the filter housing and also inside the spring where the ball check valve is inside the filter housing.
Never drain all the way out. It'll lose prime. Run the engine afterwards and drain down to the cap tgen let it fill back up automatically. Should be good after 3 drain downs.
That is the INCORRECT way to do that filter change. Never use Vaseline. Never reuse diesel fuel from the bottom of the filter. That bowl is meant to have a vacuum for proper water separation. After the new filter is on and filled with clean diesel to the top of the filter, tighten the top cap, start engine until running smooth, then just loosen the top cap while the engine is running and the fuel level will drop. Once the fuel gets down to the level of the bottom ring, tighten the top cap snug. You only need to change the filter when the fuel level gets near the top of filter head marked with a black line on the filter itself.
I did exactly what I saw in the video. Everything was fine. I drove almost 250 miles. I tried to back up in spot and the truck shut it off. I now can’t start. It looks like there’s air in the system.
@@aydarusjamai but you recognize it was your mistake on that? Because I'm planning to do an oil change for today and after hearing everyone saying MY TRUCK SHUT OFF like it makes me not wanna change it but my truck does need it so I'm like f idk what to do and I can't afford a service somewhere they're expensive and after all I got all the tools so I dont want to mess this up.
Marvel Mystery Oil is good for dissolving carbon build up inside the motor so use it with the motor oil, not very helpful when used with the fuel and lucas oil or other lubricants are not needed in the fuel of diesel engines because diesel fuel is very oily, just change filters regularly, they don’t help much when it comes to injector cleaning either. Lucas can however be useful in gasoline engines because nowadays gasoline without the lead is a dry fuel and additives can help provide the needed lubrication.
How low should the diesel stay? I recently changed the fuel filter but diesel is to low. I've also noticed that the truck shakes from side to side when its cold and it goes away 1 minute later
haha, I seen all that stuff come out of the cup on the bottom. Yuk, he should have thrown the first cup all away. Then maybe save the rest if completly clean.
BILL, what used truck with 400,000 miles would you recommend for RELIABILITY and fuel MPG ? does the year matters if 2014 vs 2015 has the same miles but cheaper for 2014...thank u
@@billtaylorlandstar1567 There's reman pre-emission engines in new glider truck bodies that were made up until 2020. So for example if you find a 2019 Columbia, it will likely have a pre-emission Detroit 60 or Cummins n14, or maybe a Cat.
I definitely would have drained all the fuel to get the dirt from the bottom. Clean the dirt out and reuse the good fuel.. Wouldn't have done it this but it works this way as well..
I have over a million miles on my truck with original injectors and have never used any additives, including Lucas. Did I mess up or save a lot of money?
whats happening when i change my filter and the fuel goes up and down in the fuel chamber....do i have an air leak somewhere? My truck cranks over but wont start.
if you watch CLOSELY when he dumps cup into fresh fuel supply, at very end a BUNCH of GARBAGE was with it ! NEVER reuse that drained fuel, get rid of it !
So when I turn the valve it doesn't drain like this dude's does so do I just open the Bixch and let her run into a catch. That's what I did a bit messy but good for weed prevention in the driveway! It's running nice now so i guess I did something right today!
shyeem63 ........when the fuel reaches the top of the filter.there is a line on top too showing you to change the filter when fuel level reaches that level.
But surely the filter, which he just installed here, would stop any foreign matter passing through? He emptied it into the 'dirty' side, not the 'clean' side. Having said that I'd also rather fresh fuel be used to prime the new filter.
Never reuse what you drain out. That's just defeating the purpose of changing the filter. Pouring junk right back into a new filter. Just put clean fresh fuel in it.
Because of this video I was able to change the fuel filter myself. Thank you very much sir. Saved myself a service call

Just don't reuse the dirty fuel from bottom of filter. Thanks. Great info
Danny Brown it's alright it's goin into the filter

DO NOT DRAIN THE ENTIRE BOWL. You'll lose prime.
Very well explained thank you!!!
I would still recommend draining all of the fluid. Contaminants collect at the bottom of the filter housing and also inside the spring where the ball check valve is inside the filter housing.
Ho Lee Schitt The fuel system would lose its prime of you did that.
turn the key a few times ;)
NEVER completely drain it...

that first cup that was drained had dirt in it! thanks a lot!
That other gasket you put in the trash bag actually goes on that black ring lol but it's not 100 needed but it's a secondary option
Thanks brother! You saved me time and money! 🙏
Thanks brother. ABout to change right now
Get the tool at any TA/Petro or truck dealer, make sure it fits your filter
Hi Bill, after changing the filter, why should we dump fuel back in? Aren't we changing filter so that we get rid of that dirty fuel?
Great video!! Thank you!!
Do you still need to prime after filter change
Great video
Thanks
After how many miles do you change the filter
Great video, good job. In 2019 everyone is a critic.
Corey Adams even in 2020 lol
Good job on the video Bill.
This is NOT a fuel filter, its a water seperator.
Awesome, thanks for sharing your experience

How low should the diesel stay?
I recently changed the fuel filter but diesel is to low.
I've also noticed that the truck shakes from side to side when its cold and it goes away 1 minute later
I usually dont use Lucas fuel treatment, i do use Marvel Mystery Oil in my fuel
I'm a Sea Foam guy myself, but I've heard good things about Marvel too.
Hello brother, I am a filter factory from China
how many time should you used the lucas oil should you do it once 15miles i was told not to used it everytime you fuel ? thc for video
Also, ONLY hand tighten! The wrench in ONLY for removing the filter. The owners manuals are your best "advice".
Thanks mr 4 the video
Do you know why my truck has no full in that housing. It sucks it all up
you are sucking air somewhere
Thanks excellent explanation

How do you know when you need to change it
Very informative
Did you not see the dirt come out of the cup? Granted when you pour it into the filter it goes to the dirty side of the filter.
Perfect explanation ty
I did not hear when you said if there is no bubbles coming out of the fuel filter there no leaks?
Sir,is it Hino truck ?
You didn’t unplug the sensor ?

if you have a davco filter before the engine fuel filters you can go min 150k before changing the 2 or 3 on the engine.
You mean up to the black line
time to change for new one ?
When your filter looks like it's made out of black tar.
