  • I was the photographer/videographer on the Thames Barge race that was held in The City of Southend-on-Sea. The event was held at the Thorpe Bay Yacht Club on the 8th June. The two lap race was held on the Thames where spectators could view the race from the pier head or the beach
Camera equipment used Nikon Z9 and Nikkor 70-200mm lens

How many raced? A spinnaker is not normal. Thanks for the recording. Hope that you can get to another race/match this season.

Great to see this perspective of the race. The z9 looks nice here. Some questions and observations. What's with the shake in the opening shot? The z9 has excellent IBIS, was it on here? Generally the ibis performed well but with a long lens and being situated on a boat, it didn't quite handle it but im not sure anything else full frame would have either.

Back in the day they would be operated by two men and a boy.
Hundreds of tons of cargo moved by muscle and wind alone, talk about efficient.

In spite of their efficiency there were times when there was no work -- see "Starvation Buoys" at Greenwich.
