THE BOAT IS IMPRESSIVE AND I WATCHED THE VIDEO MANY TIMES; NOT TO LOOK AT THE BOAT BUT TO HEAR DR. ROWLANDSON. YOUR SENSE OF HUMOUR IS SO CONTAGIOUS DOCTOR. I HAVEN'T LAUGHED SO MUCH IN YEARS. THANK YOU SO MUCH.RENE.
The design of these gaff cutters is classically beautiful. Once I had a dream of sailing to the med and wanted a Heard 35 for so long, but it became an obsession that was sadly unattainable. Now I have contented myself with a narrowboat that I love to bits. Although all these years later I still fantasise about sitting on a faded teak deck above turquoise waters beneath a Roman sun.
Dr R. cracks me up!! Enjoyable interview....I dont think I have ever heard the term "table top dancing" in any sailing video...that was hilarious. Beautiful boat!!!
well done film. Nice close-ups down below.. I appreciate your care to details and of course we can be moved by example for Pier's wonderful open hearted laugh/sense of humor and honesty . Thanks a bunch Bob A.
I Really Enjoyed This Video. A Wonderful Boat And Someone Who Enjoys It So Much !. I Wish You “Happy Landings”. Greetings And Best Wishes From Scotland, John Fenner.
A true treat to have this much over-due review... as for table dancing .. wouldn't that be a regular show at sea with glasses etc. sliding about ones salon ?
Lovely! I have a Cygnus Gaffer 29, also known as Tamarisk 29, which is also based on the falmouth oyster boats design, so very very similar. I bought it in february 2021 as a bit of a project boat. Spent 13 months refitting her and now enjoying learning to sail her, though she still needs more sprucing up to look as pristine as this gentleman's fine vessel. We'll get there though. :)
Just so you know, I'm here to watch this video because my OCD can't handle the whole "28" thing in the thumbnail, while there's a "23" on the hull. You got me. You have sucked me into this world where numbers are arbitrary. Let's see what fresh hell awaits.
Okay so after watching the video, I must say that Piers Rowlandson has a mighty fine boat here. Classic looks, with a beautiful, and surprisingly roomy cabin.
Dr R you are a gem.! Lovely boat for sure. I had one with really similar cabin layout and so know that is a lovely space to be in though without the faux snow leopard cushions not sure if so jolly, but sure it is with you for company !
What a nice chap Dr. Rowlandson appears to be and yes if I could find a replica or sister ship here in the Pacific Northwest it would command my interest very much.
There needs to be more sailboat content like this on RUclips. Stuff about the boats and the adventures. Look up sailing now and you only see thumbnails with topless or suggestive women.
A lovely 1899 Bristol Pilot Cutter named Carlotta cruised our Gulf Islands here in British Columbia for years. She's recently been sold back to the UK and is now lying Southampton. Wonder if this boat is named after her.
Thanks, Doc, nice tour - though a bit lacking in detail. Nice roomy vessel for a 28 footer, quite beamy for its length, too, at 10 feet. Obviously, space was pinched from the heads, which was pretty minimalist. I particularly liked the big bronze ports.
Great boat! Not too big, not too small. At 6:14 there is what appears to be a gaff rig Memory 19 in front of the Heard 28. The Heard is not slow but if you want a real fast gaff cutter - buy a Memory!
28 ft how come that boat has so much more space on the inside than my 29ft?? Strange. But it's a lovely boat. I love a good bowsprit, it's just pure class
The boat is gorgeous for sure but the owner makes this video. If he ever finds his way to Annapolis I'll have to buy him a pint, maybe a table dance also…
Lovely quote concerning message misunderstandings, but slight correction: “send reinforcements we are going to advance”, becomes covoluted to “ send three and four pence we are going to a dance”, not “send ammunition etc”.
You're right! The whole interview was ad lib. I got into a muddle on more than one occasion so apologies for that. PS I know nothing about modern racing yachts!
A bad ass practical boat. How tall is the Dr? What's the headroom of this boat. I'm looking for a small, capable boat with at least 6'3" of height below deck. 🤔
The interior has 6' 0" headroom aft, slightly reducing to 5' 11" in the fore part of the saloon and in the heads and forecabin. There are two 6' 3" "crossover" berths in the forecabin. The heads compartment is to starboard, and in the saloon there is a single 6' 3" settee to port, and a U-shaped settee with drop-down table that can form a double berth 6' 3" long by 4' 6" wide. Mounted on the bulkhead by the galley is a removable timber frame that can support a canvas pipe cot above the saloon double to form an occasional extra berth if needed. But word or warning. No heard build boat is the exact same. Some have bespoke changes.
She did not have a topsail when I bought her. A friend is a sailmaker. We were in his loft one afternoon and he kindly agreed to cut up an old sail, and make a topsail for me. The yard in a dinghy mast. Job done! I like the upside down logo
М-да.. Надо признать - любопытный экземпляр.. Интересно, какова высота потолка каюты?.. А главное, где можно посмотреть полную техдокументацию данного судна?
A real boat, and a real sailor. He calls the saloon, of all things, a “saloon”. And he calls the head, guess what, a “head”. Imagine that. So many phony boat owners are too POSH, AND THEIR VIDEOS HAVE A “salon”. I always think they must do hair, or are hair dressers or maybe just hot air POSH posers. So refreshing
philip ritson good to see your awake down there, the answer is Yes as the call all blokes from your neck of the woods Bruce . Good to see you’re moving about the site Bruce
Those who do, including yourself, are getting it wrong whichever way you're pronouncing it! They're jib booms, you only get a bowsprit when there are two sticks poking out the front and it's the short fat one underneath that's called a bowsprit and I've been calling them bow, as in the branch of a tree, for 50 years along with hundreds of tall ship men, Baltic Trader owners, riggers, shipwrights et al.
Nice, shippy little boat. You never filmed her much higher than the boom, so we can't tell if she's gaff- or marconi-rigged, although if she's racing in a gaffer's regatta, well, let me see...
Ah, good eyes, thanks. Pretty rig. We have a comparable design in North America from Lyle Hess called the Bristol Channel Cutter 28, but they all have marconi rigs. More practical, and probably better performing upwind, but nothing is as beautiful as a gaff cutter with a top'sl...
Being from California I am aware of the BCC. I wasn't previously aware of the Heard. The video popped up on my You Tube "Up Next" list, otherwise I would still be unaware of the Heard yachts.
Apologies to all old salts out there. As a confirmed Landlubber I got my bowsprit crossed with my bumpkin in the excitement of the moment. I cannot promise it won’t happen again.
Classy boat, owner seems a nice chap, just please don’t say “5 knots an hour”. Knot is already a speed unit of measure, equals a nautical mile a per hour.
Yes yes, it's wrong, but the English have a thing about the honourable amateur, and not showing too much technical knowledge. It's a better way to put people at ease, and not sound too lofty. Dr Rowlandson has it off to a tee............
One of my favourite My Classic Boat videos, the Dr is hilarious! A true character.
Super classic boat ⛵ well done ,thanks for sharing
Simply a Gorgeous boat, and dr. what gentlemen.
Yes. The doctor is very cheerful and it's somewhat contagious.
Beautiful little ship!

I really like that guy he is very cool. Loved the Heard 28 as well absolutely lovely little vessel.
Beautiful boat.....what a joy to own.
Dr R. cracks me up!! Enjoyable interview....I dont think I have ever heard the term "table top dancing" in any sailing video...that was hilarious. Beautiful boat!!!
Love it. Love everything about this post. 🇦🇺👍🍺
what a nice boat!
Beautiful boat!
What a jewel, and roomy for the size! Incredible!

I love this little boat !
28+ is not little
Beautiful Boat thanks
Brilliant! The whole lot of it! Thanks for sharing ☺️
beautiful❤❤
The Dr. is an absolute HOOT!
Very nice sailboat !!!
What a great little video! I salute you, Dr. Piers. You're a very funny fella!
I Really Enjoyed This Video. A Wonderful Boat And Someone Who Enjoys It So Much !.
I Wish You “Happy Landings”. Greetings And Best Wishes From Scotland, John Fenner.
Fiberglass is not cheating!
A classic style with good living space with GRP hull is just the combination of the best of two worlds.
Wonderful boat bro !!!..pretty nice film ...Congrats!
So sympathetic, mate... Looks sooo spacious...!
A true treat to have this much over-due review... as for table dancing .. wouldn't that be a regular show at sea with glasses etc. sliding about ones salon ?
Beautiful boat
Very nice sailboat. Best design under 29 feet.
great film, loverly yacht,
Absolutely fabulous! ❤️

It’s hull number 23, and it’s 28 foot long. Simple!

What a nice boat,
Great sense of humor for a physician and wooden boat ! Lol .
Beautiful boat. Fun Captain. My sister just bought a place in East Cowes, next to the ferry. Maybe catch you on the next visit?
Super nice!
Sold I want it when your finished..😎
very nice boat and video this 8/10 bob in derby in uk
Shes a lot bigger on the inside than a 28. Looks beautiful cruising along on those calm blue seas.
That's probably because the length on deck, and the waterline length, are one and the same!
There needs to be more sailboat content like this on RUclips. Stuff about the boats and the adventures. Look up sailing now and you only see thumbnails with topless or suggestive women.
Very funny chap. I enjoyed his humor more than the boat.
Note that at 06:00 he says, " Knot per hour".
"The knot" is a measure of speed and so there is no need to add," per hour"
Delightful
It’s more like “send reinforcements, Army is advancing on left flank” heard as “send three or four pence, Annie is dancing on wet planks”.
Brilliant
Una belleza 🇦🇷😊
We KNOW there is a table dancing video and we demand to see it!
What a lovely fellow. Could be related to Tiff Needell.
A lovely 1899 Bristol Pilot Cutter named Carlotta cruised our Gulf Islands here in British Columbia for years. She's recently been sold back to the UK and is now lying Southampton. Wonder if this boat is named after her.
I'll look out for her and thanks for watching

I owned the first Memory in Carrick Roads, thrashed anything coming out of Tregatreath in 1978!
Jonathan Simmonds
Wow, you had the first....
Mine's from Liverpool late 1970's,,,
@@ancientmariner7473 The first one to sail in Carrick Roads! But one of the very early ones built in Lymm.
28 ft how come that boat has so much more space on the inside than my 29ft?? Strange. But it's a lovely boat. I love a good bowsprit, it's just pure class

I wish this guy was my doctor
He's a gynaecologist..
Nice video but I guess you're using a fish eye lens that distorts distance hence makes the accommodation looks bigger than it actually is?
A bad ass practical boat. How tall is the Dr? What's the headroom of this boat. I'm looking for a small, capable boat with at least 6'3" of height below deck. 🤔

So, what's the story behind the upside down Etchells sail?
She did not have a topsail when I bought her. A friend is a sailmaker. We were in his loft one afternoon and he kindly agreed to cut up an old sail, and make a topsail for me. The yard in a dinghy mast. Job done! I like the upside down logo
Have a look at the heard 65 Elley Grey .
Interesting. I never noticed that the bowsprit is off center. I’m not a sailor
"Down Below" for non-mariners. "Below" to mariners.
I love listening to posh landlubbers talking about gaffers. That 'ring', it's the traveller... and 5 knots an hour? C'mon man!
М-да.. Надо признать - любопытный экземпляр.. Интересно, какова высота потолка каюты?.. А главное, где можно посмотреть полную техдокументацию данного судна?
Google Heard 28. The specifications are all online. I have copies of all the technical drawings as I'm related to Terry, Martin and Sam Heard
Beautiful boat. There should be laws against using fiberglass to build boats.
But this one is made of fibre glass - so you don't make sense
But this boat is made of fibreglass so you are not making any sense
plans for it
Cuesta mucho aprender a navegar a vela???
When are you guys going to feature a Lyle Hess Bristol Channel Cutter ?
Morning, would love too, do you know an owner I could contact.

Actually the original message was, "Send reinforcements, we're going to advance". Great video in any case.

Do all Heard owners make the "There's nothing naffer than a plastic gaffer" joke?
philip ritson good to see your awake down there, the answer is Yes as the call all blokes from your neck of the woods Bruce . Good to see you’re moving about the site Bruce
send up reinforements👍
Am I the only person left in the world who still says bo’sprit, not b-OW-sprit? How did this catch on?
Those who do, including yourself, are getting it wrong whichever way you're pronouncing it! "She's ford opposite the folly."
Look at the Heard 65 Elley Grey .
The boat that killed Martin Heard.
the volume keeps fluctuating, you need a microphone for the speaker so the voice vol matches the music.
It's "send reinforcements I'm going to advance"...

At about 4:20 there is a shot of her rounding a buoy. She has the hull/racing number 23 and the gaff rig and top sail are plainly visible.

Knot an hour????
Not knots per hour, the term knots means nautical miles per hour.
who cares, lighten up
bow sprit
A subtitle would be good.
Damn your eyes you lubber! Not 5 knots per hour! 5 knots! 5 nautical miles per hour.
Thank you! Saved me a job...
Landlubbers indeed. 'Traveller' not ring......
Apologies to all old salts out there. As a confirmed Landlubber I got my bowsprit crossed with my bumpkin in the excitement of the moment. I cannot promise it won’t happen again.
Piers Rowlandson Good on you Piers!
Yes he is right. A knot has units of speed, a nautical mile per hour. But what is a nautical mile? ha ha
Not "Five knots an hour;" simply "five knots."
It's not "the scilly isles" 😤, it's the "isles of scilly", and you are a doctor, what hope have we got 🤦♂️
Classy boat, owner seems a nice chap, just please don’t say “5 knots an hour”. Knot is already a speed unit of measure, equals a nautical mile a per hour.

Would have much preferred to see how the bowspirt and jib get rigged than him sitting around down below trying to be funny.
I would have watched it if it wasn't for that hideous dog barking at the start.
How about a fast forward for a few seconds, there's no excuses. Or just get to like our Pebbles.
boring...
