I like ur expertise...a lot
That's why I watched it 10 times
She is very good at software
Wow...looked long and hard for this and it's so simple: =HOUR(Cell#)+MINUTE(Cell#)/60. Just replace the cell# with whatever you need. Thank you Brie!
Most clear and understandable answer on RUclips.. Thank you
That´s strange that many other help sites miss the extra hint about changing the cell format. Thanks for that!
After watching numerous video... finally I found here what I was looking for.. thanks a ton
This is the unique RUclips video the explains the concerned point by the easiest, most effective and far flexible way possible using the provided formula. Shame on MS-Excel documents, sites and help as they do not make this important point clear by any means for the user.
Very helpful! Saved me from shutting off the PC in frustration. LOL! Thank you! 😃
Thank you- I was having the exact problem you mentioned. Now, I can know that I must reformat the cell 😅

thanks you so much. help lots for assignment.
Thanks for this Trick.
Great video! Thanks a lot for your help. It was incredibly useful :-)
You saved me sooooo much "time" ;)
Why use the =hour & =minute formulas? All you need to do is multiply the Difference cell by 24, in other words: =C2*24. And reformat as a decimal.
Ja Mhr Can you explain how this works... ? I have an excel spreadsheet that I use to track my hours at my office and calculate overtime. I have added this to calculate my total weekly hours and convert the time format to decimal for the overtime dollar amount estimate. I am seeing it work, but it is not immediately obvious to me why. Can you please let me understand the why?
If I understand the question, Excel reads hours as 24ths of 1. Each 1 represents a full day, which is 24 hours long. So 6/24 would be interpreted as 6:00, when formatted in Excel as time. Multiply 6/24 by 24, and you get 6.00 again, when formatted as a number. Note: if formatted as time, 6.00 looks to Excel like 6 full days or (24*6)/24, and reads the time as midnight. Fractions of 1 are fractions of whole days. It's the formatting that does the work. Hope that helps.
That is exactly what I was looking for. I actually found it shortly after asking... Thank you for the prompt reply!
Awesome!! Thanks to Ja Mhr and tygger83, great input. Much appreciated.
Thanks genius
Awesome mam ...really you're an expert.
and she is Brie Clark.
Yeah as she said....
Thank you!!!! This help me a lot!
Dear software expert. What you explain, is how to convert time to decimals. The cell C2 has as time format. It becomes more tricky once we have cell time duration format and the number of hours is larger than 12...
thanks for the help! do you know how to change age y/m/d to decimal?
This is awesome. Thank you. But I noticed that this doesn't always work. This is my problem:
I have to add 10 hours + 13 hours + 1 hour + 10 minutes. The formula to calculate the total time is =SUM(A1:A4). This works fine. To convert this time into a decimal I use: =HOUR(A5)+MINUTE(A5)/60. This gives me the decimal number 0.17. But I actually want it to say 24.17. How can I solve this?
(Yes I know, I could just add +24, but than I have to check every decimal number. And if it would be 48 hours and 10 minutes I have to had +48 because excel will still convert this as 0.17)
TheXIronScorpion Hi...did you solve this? I need to do this too. What happens is that the formula resets to zero when it gets to 24 hours (ie a whole day). I have a total time cell of 102 hours 39mins (102:39).....I want to convert this to days and fraction of a day. I cant seem to get it !
Thank you so much...Your a great help
thank you.
Thanks!
Thank you.
Thanks very helpful!
Crazy question.. Can you combine the formulas from D & C into one cell?
Thanks Madam.
Thanks Mam👍👍
Great thanku😊
Very heplfuly. Thank you.
very good :-) thanks
Nice. But this formula is only valid when we calculate the time on same date.
Mam, it would be great if you can teach us to calculate time difference, suppose, from 23:00 of X date and 1:30 of (X+1) date, into a positive integer.
(which should come to 2.5 hours)
This I'm lookin for too
thank you, helpfull
thank you
Thanks ,excellent
If your total hours exceed 24 hours, you should also add "Day(Cell#)*24
thanks really help full
can you please, what condition should i give for the data format for the start time and end time. i am so confused and the time difference is not working
I am trying to add a calculation to a start time to get an end time. My calculation is 2 cells divided (50units/2.5hours to make). Can you provide any help for me?
Genius!
Thank You :)
From Greece, thangs.
hi...how can i get excel numbering system 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5,
1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and so on. It does not seem to recognise this
numebring...can u help ??
Unfortunately this formula only works for hours up to 23:59, anything beyond 24 hrs gets dropped off. 26:12 will equate to 2.2 decimal hours.
Hi Brie, absolutely brilliant but can you change decimal into a time format using a full stop not colon?
thanks a lot
How to do the other way around : 1m 30s changed to 1.5 or 3m 30s changed to 3.5 ??? Really struggling
Why use 4 columns when 3 will suffice? Unless you specifically need to express the difference in two separate time formats; Use the formula below, (same as the video) except you use the difference calculation in the same formula as the conversion: ensure difference cell is formatted as a number and two decimals.
=HOUR(B2-A2)+MINUTE(B2-A2)/60
