I'm lucky to live near a fishing port,so we get fresh as it gets ,no way I'm trying this product but appreciate you doing it for your fans ,love the content gaz
Try your garden peas cooked from frozen in the microwave with no added water, use a microwaveable container, cook for a minute or so, I think they taste much fresher.
Hey man, got a great tip for you. Unrelated to this video but past videos regarding Chinese curry sauce. As I said before Mayflower is way too salty for me. Goldfish are a bit better but I just discovered a new one. S&B Golden Curry, it's Japanese but there is very little difference. When it comes to Chinese curry sauce, its the closest in my opinion. Not too much salt or msg. Just right. It comes in a box like a chocolate bar. Break0 one chunk off, about 250ml of water in the pan, p it down. Perfect. Tescos
I always save the cooking water from peas and drink it. It's slightly sweet and must be full of goodness. Don't like pollock and try to avoid rapeseed oil. Good vid tho Gaz.
Cod in cheese and spinach have been in Lidl for over two years. It's good to see Aldi catching up. The Lidl ones are lovely. Before the Cost of Liz Truss crisis, they used to be around £2.20, but are now £3,99
The dark fish doesn't put me off unless there's loads of it. The main point though is if that had been made with cod or haddock it would have been two quid more expensive so for people on a budget a bit of dark fish isn't going to kill you.
Best wishes on the weight loss, I’d def try that pie some carrots peas and a few of then croquettes that you reviewed . Thanks again for another great review❤
I fire pepper on everything as well. Looked OK would do me as a 1 sitting meal though maybe with a steam fresh veg pouch. Would need serious bulking out to do 2 people
CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉 Gaz on your weight loss 👍❤ I've never had fish with cheese sauce before, but I'll give it a go, I'll make it with no grey bottom 🤢 😂 love the ☕ and the Aaaah❤
i was at Aldi this morning and seen that, i love fish and love cheese but not together lol, i did pick up gunpowder potatoes, they are new aswell, having them tonight for dinner, its the usual tho, on packit says for 2 portions but not a chance lol they are also down to £1.79, i think when you done your review they were £2.50
M&S "Count On Us" Frozen Haddock Mornay (cheese sauce), 400g, £4.00 (actually less because I got 15% off with Sparks). 2 haddock fillets (single pieces and no grey bits). Have to say the Aldi one looks good but the grey always puts me off. Lidl do Lemon Pepper Sole, 2 pieces but when you cook them and cut into them they have been puffed up with lots of grey bits. Sometimes it's worth paying just a little more for better quality. I tend to use Lidl more than Aldi as my nearest Aldi is a tram ride away and Lidl is 2 minutes walk...no brainer. As an aside the local Iceland Manager also does the odd shift at my local pub. I mentioned about the high price complaints and she said she no longer buys from there herself and she gets staff discount. Great as always Gareth, looking forward to the next one EDIT: and congrats with the weight loss 👍
The supermarket prices have gone up so much that a lot of the M&S products are looking good value in comparison. I got a really nice bottle of mayo £1.40, can’t match that price anywhere else for the quality.
Hi Gaz, great review. It's not the dark fish that puts me off, it's the fact that it's fish that puts me off. The only fish that I'll eat is Cod from the chippy. That doesn't taste like fish.
The dark fish is from round the back-bone. The cheap battered/breaded fish form Lidl have it. It is indicative of fish that swim larger distances, as the brown meat is muscle. More active fish have more of it, compared to fish that don't have to move far to feed.
I saw your one on the pasta bake, completely agree, I've had similar ones, seem to be tasteless, maybe there is too much water, loved your trying the name! This one probably that it's frozen, it does take quality and taste away from the actual meal, love your content, btw, I have found your 5 pounds, they were just there on a foot path, gave them away to charity...
Hi Gareth the dark meat in fish is the same as the dark meat in chicken. It is where the fish and chicken have more muscle. As in chicken the dark meat tends to be a bit stronger in taste. But obviously safe to eat and if covered in a sauce you would not notice the difference. Looking fitter mate keep up the good work. I'm dieting with you and lost 3kg about 6.5lbs in old money. 😊
5 lbs is brilliant me dear, congratulations! That looks tasty, it's a shame it's not as tasty as it looks. You can cook your peas in the microwave, just put them in a container, no water, put them on for two minutes, mix them and put them back in for between 1 and 3 minutes depending on the amount of peas, and there you have it. 😊 Only one extra dish to wash.
Better than the other 2 Aldi offerings you did recently but still pretty expensive. Funnily enough, Ive just had the £1 Fish Pie new from Iceland, nothing amazing but perfectly acceptable for a pound 👍
For the same reason, the content of healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-3 in Alaska pollock is almost twice higher than in Pacific cod. Other differences in nutritional value or taste are not so significant, while Alaska pollock has a great advantage due to its more affordable price
Good work with the weight-loss, slow and steady is nice. Sauce with the fish looked a bit too liquid for me,probably water coming out of the fish as it cooked. I prefer battered fish with the exception of tinned tuna for sarnies :)
Hi Gareth. The making of the 'Cup of Tea' was far more interesting than the fish. I watched it several times. Great editing! 👍😉 Congrats on the 5 pound weight loss. Problem is you loose it and it hangs around waiting for the opportunity to be found again or some unlucky cobber finds it😕. Cheers 👍😀
Great review Gaz and honest opinion is always appreciated I only eat fish with batter on 😅 it’s pasta bake day with vindaloo sauce on I didn’t realise how big they were and keep up with the great work as always 👏👏👍👍
I like the pollock, it seems to have a good taste and is nice and firm, ok, it's not like cod or haddock but still good. Well done on the 5lb, hang in there, the slower you take it off the better, seems to stay off easier
Well done on the weight loss, its been 3 years since i had a drink ,dont really miss it , that dish is ok ,but dont think its on my list to try , Good review mate ,keep well
I was thinking what shall I have for my tea and then you said 3 words… Fish and Chips! I always used to finish work a bit earlier on the building sites on a Friday, few jars and Chippy tea on the way home. It feels like it’s a thing of the past now in this “modern” type world we live in …. Smithy
I love these fish meals from Aldi and Lidl. I be like the cheese and spinach, and the Mediterranean one. Sure you have to add some mash or new baby potatoes and peas🥴🥴🤔. But in a microwave? Your talking minutes. I do like to have my fish with the skin on. It helps stop the fish from flaking. Depending on where the fillet was cut will provide either very white cuts, or cuts that are darker. But it won’t affect the flavour. I’m sad you didn’t rate this dish a bit higher, but it’s all down to what you like. Good job on the weight loss by the way. 😃😃.
I was on a Blackpool tram yesterday on way with my other half and our dog to Fleetwood and back to Blackpool and it was such a clear beautiful day and we saw Barrow On Furness over in Cumbria so clearly and we said our hello’s to you Gareth . We are down on holiday until Saturday from Ayrshire. I enjoyed your review but I don’t particularly like Alaskan Pollack fish . Although I used to like McDonald’s Fillet-a-Fish which is the same fish in a bun .
I prefer parsley sauce with fish ,use to be able to get a boil in bag fish n parsley sauce from Iceland I have no idea if they still do it it was really nice
I _did_ manage to buy this in Aldi this morning! I thought maybe it's only available in a few stores to test the market. And I noticed that it is now listed on the website. EDIT: I've now eaten it and it was fantastic. You really get a good portion for the money. In addition to cooking mine in my mini oven for 35 minutes I placed it under a hot grill for two minutes at the end to brown the top. Very tasty.
Afteroon Gareth! My continued thanks for the interrogation of the nosebag items, I knew next to nothing on the 'traffic-light' prior to watching your fine work, this looks sooo yummy! My nearest Aldi is just too far for me to reach comfortably, I long for the day they take over a now-leading high street grocer and acquire the trucks and skilled staff already trained for the vitals role they play. Congrats on the weight loss and the 11 week abstinence for the booze, I admire and (sometimes) envy you! Hope the family are in as finer-fettle az wot you is! VBW & thank you! x
Good news on your diet Gareth. I am a great lover of cheese, infact i eat far too much of the stuff. However, i would never have thought of having it with fish, it seems like an odd combination to me. Have i been missing out on something 🤔
Congrats on weight loss Gareth.good review once again .I don’t think I would try it as the dark colour of the fish puts me off I like really white fish.we have a local fish market and I buy it from there but it’s getting really expensive now just like a lot of food items .Carry on reviewing 😊
Well done on your weight loss you look great. That looks ok but I love the cod in parsley sauce the boil in the bag one but just so small and are quite expensive. X
11 weeks no booze and 5 pounds less - my respect! 👍 (It could be related 🤣) The fish looked ok, just the fact that the blocks of deep-frozen fish lay on the tray without any cover isn't that appealing.
The only way it serves 2 is if you buy 2 lol. I'm going to get 1 tomorrow as it does look great and I can eat fish. Another great video. Well done on the weight loss too. Keep it up and hit your target weight.
I was about to get a bit excited about this... then realised it's described as 'fish' in a cheese sauce. Nah, I need to be told WHAT fish has been used, because you can bet your boots it's the cheaper fish if it's just fish. Yeah, pollock.... I knew it! Lidl's done a similar one for years, but I believe with cod. It's gone downhill recently though... very watery. Very well done on your weight loss Gareth! Just goes to show you can still eat well if you ditch the deadly booze! Thanks for the review. I appreciate them even when they aren't for me!
The £6 M&S gastro pub fish pie is leagues ahead, with king prawns, cod, scallops (I think) and salmon, creamy cheese sauce and potato topping. It can easily serve 2, too, IMO, if you add veg. Bit pricey but so yummy I bought it again last week. Review it?
Hi Gareth, love watching your reviews. Congrats on the weight loss. I like the look of your small silver oven you use, could please tell me where you got it from. 😊
It's "Sage the Smart Oven Air Fryer Countertop Oven 22L, SOV860BSS, Stainless Steel", about £300 from a well-known online retailer. Same as the Breville one in the USA. Cheaper ones are (now) available...
The pack said contains 2 servings - not sure about that. I have never tried Pollock and TBH not sure I fancy it from the colour. Well done on dropping 5 lbs. x
My gran used to feed us boil in the bag cod with parsley sauce and that's given the the fear again, yuk but do love most fish especially John dory and hake, cheers G

Congratz on the weight loss mate I lost 5 pounds in iceland just walking around trying to find a bargin 😂
I think Iceland has seriously lost the plot.
They are empty. Nobody in there. I wonder why?
Some of these Iceland jokes are class man😂
More Iceland shops closing down next week.
I wonder why.🙄
I found two of them.
Bugger!
yes, iceland getting too
expensive, too many brand names, but farmfoods are the way to go! great shop for prices! thank you to the owners!
Really appreciate these reviews, its like having a canary down the mine trying out these things before deciding whether to buy or not

Thanks for sharing
Best fish in sauce we ever had was from Iceland. Straight off the boat and into the pan in the Northwest town of Isafjordur.
I went on the whiskey diet. I've lost 3 days so far.👍
Lidl used to do a similar dish. Not sure if still do.Breaded cod with brocoli..lovely it was.
Fish is really good for your health, I normally have kippers on toast in the morning sometimes. But never had it with cheese tho.
Cod in cheese and spinach have been in Lidl for over two years. It's good to see Aldi catching up. The Lidl ones are lovely. Before the Cost of Liz Truss crisis, they used to be around £2.20, but are now £3,99

I was in Sunderland General for 8 weeks and lost 22lbs m8. Couldn't eat the bloody food it was awful.
Buttery mash potatoes are a must with this where I’m from 😅 (or new potatoes) & peas of course!
I like the different format and other little changes to your videos pal, more detail is a nice touch .... bravo Gareth ! ❤
Thanks 👍
Please try the new old El Paso ready meals at Tesco, love the videos as well helps me decide what to get with my shopping.

Serves 2 are aldi serious? I could eat that by myself, and I'm not even a fat boy 😂
Serves 2 hobbits! That and maybe some chips, yes - even that would not serve two people!
I’d have a go at that with some boiled spuds. The dark meat wouldn’t bother me. If it were a chicken I’d prefer it. 😂

Dark fish if fine. Herrings are not white but are very tasty and good for you, as is mackerel. s long as it is cooked, I am not Japanese after all.
