Yes but lady in the water is a certified master piece in my book, ofcourse he made the six sense and Unbreakable , split , now glass but my number 1 will always be lady in the water and for the record the only thing keeping me from hating all humans who don't like this movie to the point of ,if they were drowing with their hand and arms in the air begging for air , I would maybe give them a high five ! I love this guy. His films all have a twist you never see coming. Lady in the Water is on of my personal favs. Bryce Dallas Howard was incredible and Paul Giamatti is one of THE most underrated actors in the industry. I have to admire the man for NOT bowing to the hiearchy of Hollywood and doing his own thing, his way.

I loved more the time when he had to act like an innocent child who's very curios about the ending of the story.
I mean WHO in the right mind would ask something like this even if they are getting old?
But the way he executed it made me laugh so hard it made me stomach hurt.

this movie was absolutely brilliant. people are so conditioned at this point as to what a movie should look and sound like that if it doesn't follow the hollywood algorithm, they think it's bad. people think the words narf and scrunt are dumb? the same people that swallowed 3 two hour movies about orcs, hobbits, dwarves, elves, giant spiders, and an ancient evil eye, where elvish is spoken frequently? people need to watch this with a child's wonder. It's very original and the perfect little bit of weird. how many people can turn a suburban apartment building into a mystical struggle between good and evil where ordinary people shine through their flaws and pain. omg I loved this flick.

I'm so glad that somebody out there is doing new and different things in film that nobody ever thought of. I love the fact that he's doing things that me and my brother were saying that somebody needs to do in cinema!!

Soundtrack is an absolute beauty. James Howard did it god-like, and the melodies, themes, use on infstruments is perfection. Apart from this, my personal opinion is that Lady in the Water is pure inspiration, geniousity and sensational blend of incredible touch between philosophy, and art. Absolute 10/10.

This movie was absolutely wonderful. I understand why it’s low rated. M. Night you are dealing with a generation of people who needs a sex scene every 5 minutes, 6 car chases, 19 shot outs, and a movie in which critical thinking and basic cognitive skills are not needed. This is a BEDTIME story turned movie. I understand that most people watch tv rather then read books so they have completely lost the ability to follow a basic story, hence the low rating. This was beautifully told. My favorite part....when the no it all, arrogant, self absorbed critic got what he earned. People complain about originality and when they get it they find a new reason to complain. Great movie

mazardeus no man listen your entitled to your opinion if you like this guys movies that's great for you in my opinion the only decent thing he did was sixth sense and unbreakable and even those don't stand up to the test of time cause once you have seen them once you've seen it all there's nothing to revisit from there on out everything else he has ever done only gets worst and worst I really dislike how pretentious he is on movies like this and avatar for example trying to say that people just don't get what he is doing if the vast majority of people don't understand what you are doing as a director it's not because people are stupid or because your ideas are to complex it's because your storytelling sucks but that's just my opinion and as we all know those are just like assholes everybody has one ☝🏻☝🏻️☝🏻️☝🏻️ and for the record I don't think it's racist to criticize someone's art in this case movies

    • @mazardeus
      @mazardeus 7 лет назад

      Joshua adams
"in my opinion the only decent thing he did was sixth sense and unbreakable"
A typically popular opinion that has become a mainstream and accepted opinion as 'rational' and should be taken as 'gospel', but I'll accept and respect it as your opinion or borrowed opinion.
"and even those don't stand up to the test of time cause once you have seen them once you've seen it all there's nothing to revisit from there on out"
I disagree. People like me have been watching his past movies multiple times, because they each have a narrative depth that any expert on the subject of cinema can appreciate. Not saying I am an expert, but that is my goal to achieve.
"everything else he has ever done only gets worst and worst"
I guess that is another conclusion of yours commonly shared amongst critics as well. His movies are still in high quality for me. After Earth is one of my favorites of his, and that one is one of his most recent films.
"I really dislike how pretentious he is on movies like this and avatar for example trying to say that people just don't get what he is doing if the vast majority of people don't understand what you are doing as a director it's not because people are stupid or because your ideas are to complex"
That is not evidence of him being pretentious. You are making irrational assumptions on his use of words. Not only has he not called people stupid, but his words cannot be translated as such. He is fully aware of an audience that appreciate and understand his work. However, Shyamalan is on point in saying that people just don't get his art form. He is absolutely right with regards to The Last Airbender. The mainstream public had a ridiculous reaction. They were not used to his narrative pacing style that broke from the usual electricity from the Hollywood blockbuster formula. He broke away from that, and made a movie (like all of his) full of creativity and artistic expression. The Last Airbender is a highly underrated film.
"it's because your storytelling sucks but that's just my opinion"
The way you speak, I can tell you are not equipped with the prerequisites of appreciating Shyamalan's narrative style or the subject of cinema as a profession or academic means in general. I wish I can watch Airbender with somebody who hates it, so that I can express exactly all the things I like about it. Critical thinking and having a broad, open mind is a very important part of reflecting on a filmmaker like Shyamalan.
"and for the record I don't think it's racist to criticize someone's art in this case movies"
It is a possibility. Those with a hyper-masculine or irrationally unjustifiable view of one's films can be suspect of some form of hidden xenophobia or other sources of prejudice. It is the modern racism just as Donald Trump decides to not want a Mexican as judge of a court or the discriminatory screening of Muslims in the immigration process.

I am amazed at how many people don't like this movie. Its the dumb down effect. If there's not enough explosions and stupid slap stick comedy we don't like the movie. The story telling was refreshing and i hope he keeps making more movies like this. Though movies can't be made in a vacuum. And that is all the airhead responses will eventually do. Create a vacuum where nothing different will ever be created.

it is a good movie and a good story, really well done. i like movies in which the point is to tell a story more than to earn money or points as a good director. the movie treasure planet for example has stuck with me from my childhood because it was such a unique story, and not everyone fit into the stereotypes and obvious places they would have in a normal movie. and the main character's relationships with some other characters were complex rather than predictable.

I admire his passion for filmmaking. It would have been easy for him to accept the Harry Potter movies or the Batman reboot (he was offered both) & just do what the scripts dictated. Instead, he used the success of The Sixth Sense & Signs to make personal films; films that even he refers to as "potentially career destroying movies" He's not just producing product for the multiplexes; he had the opportunity to make original films that expressed a clear & individual perspective, & he went for it.

i like most of his movies. i think thats because i always liked the old twilight zones, a lot of them had surprise endings, not all of the Zone episodes were so great. i also watch his movies over and over again and notiice things i missed the first time and then the dialogue makes more sence. M. Night Shyamalan is a Rod Serling of today.

There is a reason why we have film language. It's an optimal way of telling a story and make an impression on the audience. You are more likely to understand a wellspoken person, instead of some guy who switches around his words and randomly starts shouting when he talks.
Sure it's ok to express anything else than this, and MNS have every right to make his art the way he feels. But films are a projection of the director, and i can't help but feel like this is Shyamalan saying: I'm not mainstream

I only know he said no to a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights and then made his own period piece The Village.

Yes action wise it wasn't good but what was being revealed was us, and too much cannot be given because you will stay focus on action instead of seeing the revelation.

i had no idea that he directed the sixth sense.that was good, but i kinda already figured out the twist cause nobody else could see him..that was the twist..right?
hopefuly the new avatar the last airender movie will be good. im seeing it opening night, but if vanessa hudgens is going to be katara im not even going to bother seeing it..maybe. its going to be weird seeing her doing martial arts/waterbend. i havent seen lady in the water, though i heard it was bad. but im not making any judgements.

you should not break rules of writing. you can bend them but do not break them. breaking rules can create flaws on a technical level as well as a storytelling level or how readers (moviegoers) may view the movie and it can be confusing. it is possible to create rules within the world of your movie but these would then have to be explained either through narration or execution (characters acting on the rules of the world)
