This is a video with a happy and sad ending. He knew he couldn't fly, so he nailed a lot of trees to the cliff. He threw himself off a cliff, just to experience what it was like to actually fly for the *first* and *last time* . He was happy to the point of shedding tears because he could fly like a bird in the trees, but he must have also known that it was like an act of suicide.
I didn't understand him crying as a kid, I thought he was crying of happiness, I was happy seeing that the Kiwi finally achieved his goal, Now, i'm here in my room crying because the Kiwi died.
Kate Cat I mean, from my perspective, that is what happened. He pulled all those trees so that when he fell, it would look like he’s flying on land like normal. This is actually such a sad animation, despite the cheerful music.. Nailing up all those trees just to jump off a cliff and feel happiness & freedom for the first, and last time.. As someone with depression, this hits hard.
@Kalwik Lensak Bungee cords are not ever that long in the first place. If you used a cable for a fall that is 10+ seconds, my guess would also be that either the cable snaps and you fall off, or the momentum build up to the moment you stop would push the top and bottom of your body in the direction of the floor and the middle of your body upwards, with such force that you would indeed snap in half. Maybe in one piece, except for your bones that would definitely snap. All this assuming it's just tied to the middle of your body. Otherwise, another possibility would be that the cable wouldn't go straight down and you'd hit the wall, or you'd go like a pendulum when in the bottom and then hit it anyways. And if that doesn't happen, I'm sure you'd just die because of the sudden artificial stop at the bottom when the cable finally extends completely, that his body is most likely not built for anyway. I don't know enough about this but I'm pretty sure there's no way he'd survive that with a bungee cord.
Let’s be real here. If a birb like him can carry pine trees to the top of a cliff, he can survive a fall from a cliff. Imagine how many times he fell off accidentally, and lived! In my personal canon universe, he lived on to become a pilot. Don’t worry, Kiwi is fine!
On another note, one species of geese are able to fall hundreds of feet down cliffs as chicks to begin their lives. Similarly if the kiwi was lucky, it would be able to survive due to its light mass and feathers, so you’re right.
Imagine this: You're a little girl, the year is 2012. You're online, looking for cute bird videos. That's when you see kiwi. You think "Oh, it's a cute bird. It's gonna be funny." For a while, you watch the video, rooting for Kiwi. Then comes the ending. The fucked up implication that Kiwi died. You start tearing up. After a moment of silence, you start crying. That was my experience watching this video as a little girl.
2006?!?! 😮 the very first time I watched this film was in 2011 on my first semester of a Animation and cried… today I showed it to my boyfriend to challenged him and I cried again. This is really the most simple quality animations I’d seen and so powerful emotionally.
I cried 10 years ago and here I am now crying again. I think it’s how happy he is at the end knowing full well the cost that makes it so heartbreaking. ):
Yeap, thats me. But I didnt cry now, it barely moved me.. maybe because I remembered it and knew whats gonna happen, or maybe I just grew a cold heart...
2:05 bro him bringing out his tiny wings to mimic flying (and honestly this whole video) has been one of the most emotionally devastating moments of my life.
It’s funny, because the kiwi would reach the bottom and merely be disoriented. Their such light birds that their weight prevents them from going faster than a certain speed. That means that when he reached the bottom he was probably just knocked out for a minute.
The tropospheric terminal velocity of a penny, which is much lighter than a kiwi bird, is still up around 25mph. Even given the kiwi's larger surface area, I'd assume it's greater mass would give a kiwi bird a higher terminal velocity than a penny. Kiwi is at least banged up after this fall. I googled "terminal velocity of a kiwi bird" but I guess no one's done that study. Time to apply for a grant!
Considering pine trees weight around 2-3 tons, and the fact that the kiwi was able to get all those trees up that completely vertical cliff, i’d say its impossible that a kiwi that strong could die from that fall
This bird literally lifted dozens of trees up this cliff the size of the empire state building. He’s not dead. He’s only practicing for the real thing.
You’re telling me that Kiwi was strong enough to haul all those trees up the side of a mountain yet you think that he died from the fall? Trust me, he’s fine.

And think that this was one of the first videos of youtube, makes us feel nostalgic, good old times, with no shitty copyright
What do you mean? There were plenty of videos before this.
youtube was literally released in 2005 not 2006
Yeah, this one is a classic
The history of depressing bird who decided to commit suicidal acts
The irony from the animation meme community.
Well, I think it’s more the story of a bird who wished something so bad he was willing to die for it. In the end, he didn’t cry out of sadness, he cried of joy that his dream was fulfilled. He went out with a BANGER
F for my boi
Thats because him only wanted fly :''(

This is actually such a sad animation, despite the cheerful music.. Nailing up all those trees just to jump off a cliff and feel happiness & freedom for the first, and last time.. As someone with depression, this hits hard.

If Kiwi had only considered the bungee cord.
OH NOW YA SAY SOMETHIN
Well that works a lot better than making a pond at the end of the cliff
the first time i ever saw this i cried for 30 minutes straight … i love you kiwi 🥝❤️
Similarly if the kiwi was lucky, it would be able to survive due to its light mass and feathers, so you’re right.
thank you for making me feel better about this!
Thanks
You are right I was saved by a man in a small biplane after that I decided to join the New Zealand Air Force
No, he is dead.
It was my experience as like a 40 year old woman all because of my son and it's okay cuz 10 years in and it doesn't change I still cry like a baby
omg same 😂 traumatic childhood experience

This is really impressive for a 2006 animation. When I realized what Kiwi was trying to do, I was about to tear up.
2006?!?! 😮 the very first time I watched this film was in 2011 on my first semester of a Animation and cried… today I showed it to my boyfriend to challenged him and I cried again. This is really the most simple quality animations I’d seen and so powerful emotionally.

Kiwi MLG'd that shit
I hope he does it correctly
It’s funny, because the kiwi would reach the bottom and merely be disoriented. Their such light birds that their weight prevents them from going faster than a certain speed. That means that when he reached the bottom he was probably just knocked out for a minute.
Buddy I need an Africa fact check on this
I think because of the height he still died
The tropospheric terminal velocity of a penny, which is much lighter than a kiwi bird, is still up around 25mph. Even given the kiwi's larger surface area, I'd assume it's greater mass would give a kiwi bird a higher terminal velocity than a penny. Kiwi is at least banged up after this fall. I googled "terminal velocity of a kiwi bird" but I guess no one's done that study. Time to apply for a grant!
@@SlavaSesh so he would've likely survived, albeit a little messed up?
Denial :(
Considering pine trees weight around 2-3 tons, and the fact that the kiwi was able to get all those trees up that completely vertical cliff, i’d say its impossible that a kiwi that strong could die from that fall
This bird literally lifted dozens of trees up this cliff the size of the empire state building. He’s not dead. He’s only practicing for the real thing.
