- Zuzu, a two-year-old German Shepard mix, who lit up when she spotted her owners at the animal shelter in December, has found a new home. Her story went viral after her original owners ditched Zuzu because she was too depressed and they wanted a happier new dog. Diana Edwards who volunteers with Pet Adoption Fund told Inside Edition: "we had so many inquiries about her." Zuzu has been given a new family. Russ and Judith Gallo have adopted the heartbroken dog and want to give it a new life. #InsideEdition

I think the situation is a bit more nuanced than this...for example, when I was 3, our family adopted adopted a dog, but it didn't really work out, he spent months pooping everywhere, would bite me and my sister, and we knew we weren't qualified enough to give him the life that he deserved, so we gave him away to an older lady who loves that type of dog, and gave him a very happy, amazing life. A year later, we adopted another dog, who was amazing and who's been with us happily ever since...the thing is, if you know you're not going to be able to care for a dog, or you won't be happy with them(and caring for them will feel like a chore, something dogs pick up on and actually become depressed about) giving them away is actually the right choice. With today's dog adoption scene, they wouldn't remain homeless for long, and they would find a family that would actually love them. I do agree that visiting the same shelter just a few months later was a bit senseless though.

I believe it's entirely possible that the whole "depression" thing was a made up story and there was perhaps some other reason. When I volunteered in an animal shelter, people returned animals they'd adopted and they made up some of the craziest reasons you could possibly imagine.

The reason that dog was probably depressed as they said why they gave her up was probably because the owners were not very nice people. Shame on them for not taking care of this dog and giving it a good home. Just happy to know there was somebody out there who did care. God bless you.

@@kurniasandi2097 It was the couple who adopted her the second time who's dog had just died, not her original idiot owners who didn't know how to care for her. Apparently according to other comments I've seen a member of their family passed away & Zuzu was mourning them but instead of being understanding & helping her they decided to get rid of her for a new dog. If I worked at the Shelter I would have told them where to go, if they couldn't take the time to look after Zuzu what gives people the idea they'll care about any other pet they own. What happens if this dog isn't 'perfect' guess it's back to the Shelter 🙄 they don't deserve the love of animals!

The dog was most likely banished to the back yard either chained or penned which is why she was depressed.

They didn't allow them to get another dog and I hope they gave all other shelters a picture and a description of them so they couldn't adopt another animal in that area. Those heartless pricks don't even deserve to have a pet goldfish much less another dog or other kind of animal.

My dog was depressed a week after bringing her home, I tried everything to get her to be happy. I even got a puppy for her so that while I'm at work she had someone to keep her company. Now she is happier than ever. Imagine giving up a dog for being too depressed, yea that's something, let's give her away instead of figuring out how to help her.
Right?! Our boxer was so depressed after our first one passed away that she refused to eat. She was so incredibly sad. We brought home another boxer and she was just fine again. Had a playmate and was happy… I could never leave my dog at a shelter. No way. They’re family.

When the towers came down on 9-11, eventually the rescue dogs became depressed from finding corpse after corpse, and couldn't continue working. The handlers had to fake a few live rescues to cheer the dogs up.
When a dog gets depressed, you cheer it up, you don't get rid of it. I'm glad Russ and Judith were able to do this, for two dogs. God bless them and keep them safe!
This is very true, the dog search & rescue people would actually take turns hiding i the rubble, so that each other's dogs could find people alive, that broke my heart more than anything.

When one of my cats died, his older sister sat on his grave bc she knew something was up. We just comforted her and she eventually stopped doing it.
The owners who ditched her and went to the same shelter to get another dog should never have pets (or children). So happy she is getting loving people this time around. 🐕 💕
Apparently when the shelter realized what was happening, they turned the family away and did not allow them to adopt another dog.
Doesn't mean they didn't get one another way, but that shelter at least was not having it.

They could've got another playmate for her, unless they were too poor or just too cheap, but they still should be kept her, even if she is depressed, two of our dogs were depressed and we didn't give them away.

its weird how that the family who adopted zuzu also had a dog that lost its friend and they didn't decide to put that dog for adoption cause it got "depressed" instead they got zuzu to comfort that dog, so why didn't zuzu's old owners just do that instead hhhhhmmmm?

I can't go to shelters. I tend to come home with a lot more than planned.
For anyone facing this problem, I always suggest them to just foster.
I most definitely can't do that either. When I fall in love with a pet it is for absolute, unconditional keeps. I would never hurt their feelings by abandoning them or betray their trust.
M Paxton fostering isn't about "abandoning" them, you're not turning them out onto the streets, you're staying by their side & giving them the support they need to find their forever home, Taking a broken "lost cause" & giving them the courage & confidence to show their true personality to their prospective forever family.
Foster care isn't for everyone, but those who can do it, do a wonderful service & save SO MANY lives!

I'm so glad Zuzu's found a new home, but I can't get over how heartless her previous owners were. They shouldn't have tried to adopt a dog again at all, but to go to the same shelter as the one where they'd left their previous dog at....I'm so upset at that and their taunting her, that I'm at loss for words!

Just may be the meanest things you can do to your pet other than hurt it! Damn wish they would of shown her owners faces. How can someone take your dog to shelter and leave? She was depressed for a reason, and she didn't look depressed when she saw the monsters! Well everything happens for a reason, because now she is loved, happy, and at home forever! 💖💜💟

Pretty hard to sell the depressed dog story when we see how ecstatically happy Zulu was to see her old owners. For some reason YT is recommending this 4 years down the track. I am hoping Zulu has had a lovely time with her sweet new family

That’s what happened with my dog! He was adopted from the shelter and returned a year later. The previous owner left him there and adopted a cat instead. Best mistake they’ve ever made - he’s the most amazing, precious dog ever and I’m so happy to have him in my life💙
