- Well...This is it. After a lot of hard work and a lot of hard procastination, the Super Mario Bros: Heroes of the Stars Restrospective has finally come to an end.

I made some QoL changes when compiling the full video:
-Added subtitles in English (United States).
-Cut segments in the transitions of Episode 4 to 5 and 8 to 9:
They felt jarring when put together, so I had to modify them for more consistency, this is why the error of me forgetting to say the title of Episode 5 and me saying "Now...now shall be the time where we start coping" in the start of Episode 9 are two moments that are not present in this video.
-A faster pace in Episodes 1 to 4:
For some reason, when reviewing the first 4 episodes, I would constantly leave 1 second of silence each time I ended a sentence, so I cut that. This change is not as noticeable as the others though.
-Modified the credits roll:
Added more people in it, and I still forgot one, sorry Skarm...
-Changed font:
Over the course of the retrospective I swapped fonts. Now, the font is present in the whole video for more consistency.
-Balanced audio in the manga section:
I'm suprised no one pointed this out, during the manga part of the video, my voice was significantly lower compared to Bear and Francy, so I tried to fix that.
Inbetween having released the final part of the restrospective and the full compilation, there are some things that have happened that made some moments in the video be outdated:
-Asylus goes by Kratos now, I tried to fix that by putting Kratos in the subtitles as a replacement.
-I stated several times that Kratos stopped caring about the series at the end, but he has told me it doesn't seem to be the case, so I'll trust him.
-This was my biggest fumble, apparently, someone actually preserved the Heroes of the Stars episodes at a maximum quality, including part 4 of 11...I just never found them, you all saw in the vid how those videos didn't even appear when I used the search function, typical RUclips...here's the link:

Meme Man... It's not your fault that people like Asylus, Smashinity and others who, after receiving so much hate from people like you, don't want to say that they stop making their series, or inserting themselves into their own history, locking themselves in their wonderful little worlds where they believe they are untouchable and immune to the negative opinions of other people like yours and that the Internet is a magical and utopian place where everything can turn out absolutely fine, it is not your problem at all.
I just love when an enemy faction that is shown to be a genuine threat at the beginning of a series is suddenly made out to be grossly incompetent
1:38:21 this is very ironic coming from the character that insisted they do the training arc instead of finding an alternative to get to dry dry desert when he knew that luigis love interest had been kidnapped by the shroobs and left him deeply distraught.
A gold mine appeared in my timeline? That’s rare.
I really hope he can complete this series and doesn’t pull a SMBZ creator move but I also know that life is a challenge and it’ll take a few months to years to actually complete this.

Once again, I really like this whole retrospective and have learned quite a lot about this series, too
As a french-canadian kid I watched all of the episodes up to 10 (I don't remember what proportion of episodes I watched as fan reupload who had french subtitles or not). That included the remastered versions of the first 2 episodes. That and the fact I've autism + ADHD are the main reasons that I probably never noticed the slow pacing, the fact an emphasis on telling rather than showing wasn't ideal for this kind of story, or the lack of consistency (at best, the difference of the animation between the remastered episode 2 and the flashback of it in episode 3). I probably fallen off by being interested by other things over the years (That's how growing up/the tism/ADHD works) before the new episode dropped.
Excellent work, I knew there were some ocs in the opening, but I didn't even knew about all the other ocs and the DeviantArt arcs!
In spite of all the faults, thanks Asylus/Kratos, I watched your series instead of Super Mario Bros Z mainly because of the opening theme. Good luck on whatever you're doing right now.

Once again, I loved the amount of meticulous detail that went into this video. It's a tremendous effort that should not be ignored. I heavily commend you again Meme Man.
I appreciate Asylus/Kratos for giving HoTS an original story instead of making it another SMBZ ripoff.
I also like how the series takes storylines from other Mario games and tells them in a new way, like how it handles the Shroobs and the Dark Star. How they’re handled might not be executed perfectly, but I like the concept.
The series still suffers from filler and slow action though, and it sometimes feels like it tries too hard to be serious for a Mario-themed story. Mario stories can be serious, yes, but when HoTS tries it, those moments just don't feel like they fit in.
On another note, I really like your sprite-animated segments sprinkled throughout this video. They look surprisingly good!

If you want my assumption on why Luigi was acting so bizzare in Episode 10, I think it would have to do with how the Fandom sees Luigi. Basically, People see Luigi as just a shadow to Mario, A corward that can't fight, even envious to Mario because how popular he is in the Mushroom Kingdom. But it doesn't end there. The fanbase also believe Luigi is much more superior than Mario. Thinking that he can beat Mario in a fight. Which I find pretty ridiculous.
Luigi does resent being in Mario shadow ( just not out of jealousy but of admiration )
Luigi is a scaredy cat and a shy person but he also has great heart and determination
And there were times Luigi was stronger than Mario

Also the fact that Mario + Rabbids is canon based on Mario's rant, muddles the timeline even further. It's really weird seeing Rabbid Peach here (1:40:23), when games like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi aren't canon in this sprite series.
Excluding the fact that Unironically Mario + rabbids has better proof that being canon than M&L and Paper Mario
Superstar saga and some parts of paper Mario 64 are canon to this series the real error is peach “first meeting” Rosalina in the first episode when sparks of hope made peach go save rosalina meaning they should already know each other

If Super Mario 3D World is canon to the world of SMBHOTS, it further complicates the idea that Peach and Rosalina didn't know eachother, because Peach and Rosalina are both playable in 3D World.
For a brief second I thought that was the name of an actual Mario game.

Asylus- er, now Kratos, has had me blocked on DeviantArt for over a decade now. I'm sorry for putting in a complaint of him over here, but seeing what happened to this series has me realizing why he won't ever unblock me. The last attempt I made to contact him about unblocking me was sending a hail mary mention to his Twitter back in 2020... Which left me on read and saw no action taken. He doesn't care for me, just like he doesn't care about the quality of the series after the first eight episodes. Being blocked by him meant that I had to look at the DeviantArt exclusive arcs via an alt account.
Funny thing, the most likely reason I got blocked was because I did a cringy attempt at self rp in the comments section of a Kirby webcomic of his and pinging random people. I was an immature kid back in 2012. I'm 24 now and it still hurts that Kratos has thrown me under the rug instead of giving me a second chance now that I grew up. If this series got a second chance, then maybe...
Also, if anyone who asks if viewing his DeviantArt on an alt to bypass the block was me stalking him, *no*. I felt bad about what I did that got me blocked and have raised the olive branch to him in status updates and journals asking him to bury the hatchet over the incident. I'm a fan of both this and Super Mario Bros. Z, and I shouldn't be looked at that way. Notoriously there was a massive stalking incident that happened a few years back in another fandom, and that has abandoned any similarities towards my situation. I never begged and demanded an unblock. I never even went the route of clout. I've since moved on from this. Thank you for listening to my personal retrospective about my interactions with him.

I recently discovered the "Super Mario Bros. Phantom Mushroom" sprite series, which I found to be quite enjoyable and a refreshing addition to the Mario sprite series. Have you seen it before? If so, can you do a video on it?

I actually really like SMB Heroes of the Stars. It's a fun series with fun character interactions, a unique story and the Shroobs are great villains. However it's not perfect as it made Luigi and Daisy act out of character, inflation (god forbid) and some jokes that just aren't as funny. However I think it's a great series over all. This and SMBZ are tied for the best sprite series in my opinion
