I can’t remember how exactly I stumbled across the series (I think it was related videos when I was looking up the Revenge of the Mask fan films) but I’m glad I stumbled on it. It definitely stands out among Mario fan series and it just so happens to star my favorite of the Bros as well so that helped. Admittedly at the time I was more familiar with the Jim Carrey movie (and a bit of the spinoff cartoon) but those two fan series convinced me to check out the comics. And while it’s not as bombastic as a SMBZ clone, I can definitely applaud the presentation for slowly improving over time (especially with the remake episodes) and like you said the way Green Thunder is shown definitely helps the series stand out. It’s a shame the series is underrated but all I can do is recommend it whenever I get the chance.

Man oh man, I remember watching this series years ago, when I first discovered it by just looking around the fan works section of TV Tropes and thinking it sounded interesting. While I was unfamiliar with The Mask (this was basically my introduction to it), I still enjoyed the series for what it was! I don't think I actually finished watching up to its current point at the time (nor did I read the written/fanfic version), so I should probably get to that. Happy that you're doing a retrospective on it, can't wait for the next parts!

I'm so glad that you're covering my favourite sprite series of all time. The story of this series is wonderful, but an equally great part is the humour. As for the animation, even though the *way* it's depicted is a bit rough, *what's* being depicted is really nice.

Took a while for me to watch the video fully and I cannot believe you included the qna clip where he answers my dumbass question. My grammar at the time was ass and my friends have never let me live that down, so for a time I was known as "Were you thought guy" on our private discord server. The clip and the video did make me reflect on the past of SMG4 though. Although I stopped watching around the point when he hit 1 million subscribers. I can't deny that him and his brother gave me a lot of positive moments during my adolescence. Evident by me commenting to him on Facebook of all things. And I occasionally rewatch his older videos to reconnect with a younger version of me who really loved everything Mario (still do haha). Great video meme man, can't wait for the continuation on the Mario & Luigi The Mask video!

Yeah, fair point. The animation is stilted in some areas. Honestly, if you thought the animation was bad here, you should've seen some of my earlier stuff. Trust me, it was so much worse. 😂 Im much more of a story teller than an animator. But thanks for the praise and I appreciate the critiques. It lets me know what to focus on. 👍 Ive always been in love with the idea of the Mask. Its the perfect vehicle for a jekyll and hyde story, which im also a sucker for. Something that bugged me about most Mask fan fictions where someone else other than Ipkiss wore the Mask was that the Mask, as in the object, was usually depicted as a magic talisman akin to a Green Lantern ring rather than a cursed object with a corrupting influence on the wearer. Which is the most interesting part of the Mask and something I wanted to write into this series. In a way, Ive also wrote the misunderstanding into the story as Luigi sees the Mask as his magic talisman and will willfully ignore anything malicious he does while wearing it. This attitude will eventually come back to bite him. 😉 That also contrasts again with Stanley, who is wary of the Mask and it's powers from the start.

Something i don’t see people talking about is your scripts. Really well written, it’s not easy to lay out info like how you do, in an informative, yet interesting (sometimes comedic) way.

Honestly I haven't watched this at all until you guys recommended it to me, and personally, in the era of people constantly trying to fish out attention and praise from SMBZ... This is indeed an unique series! Even though there is a major inspiration to the movie/comics of the same name, what is not inspired from something else nowadays? You can take concepts from existing media all you want. All that matters is if you can make something unique and standing out, and not another carbon copy of the thing you just wanted to get inspired from (take fucking notes Smasher, this is for you)
