From 6:09 to 9:50 I tested out the feature where you can remove the copyrighted music and keep speech in but the quality is pretty bad and i cant revert back to it so my bad lol. At the very least, its not too long! The rest of the video is still normal.
And besides, this video needs an update with new lore updates with these characters. Especially for surge, kit, mimic and the diamond cutters. And adding more that i missed (Scrapniks!!!)
And here's the 10-second version of the IDW characters explained: Tangle: Loud, hyper lemur girl. Probably has ADHD. Totally gay for the wolf girl. Whisper: Quiet, introverted wolf girl. Has PTSD. Totally gay for the lemur girl. Jewel: Beetle girl. Owns a museum of geology and also acts as administrator for the resistance. Friend of Tangle. Got mistaken for a talking rock by Storm the Albatross. Dr. Starline: Snively, except he's a platypus. Surge: Scourge, except she's a girl and nowhere near as much of a loser. Kit: Nine, except with hydrokinesis and crippling self-esteem issues. Rough and Tumble: Skunks. Brothers. Z-tier villains. They provide the bungling comedy double act when Orbot and Cubot aren't around. Mimic: Octopus. Amoral mercenary. Shapeshifter. Has a vendetta against Whisper. Literally a Metal Gear Solid reference. Clutch: Al Capone if he was an opossum. Belle: Weird mix of elements from Sage and Pinocchio. Lanolin: Sheep girl. Started off as a background character. Due to a particular plot point, a good chunk of the fandom wish she had stayed as one.
I believe all they have to do is stick to Sonics writing in games such as Sonic secret rings, black knight, sonic unleashed, games like those. Sonics writing in those games felt peak. Also I don’t like Rogers voice for Sonic, I can’t lie.
I honestly love that sonic isn't a series with one definitive story compared to a series like mario, it can take place in different settings or universes without feeling weird or non canonical (most of the time) that's one of things that make this franchise great
People hating lanolin for being tricked by mimic, moreso than people hating mimic for tricking her, always sits weird with me Sonic fans can’t cry and whine over all the Main characters being made one dimensional and bland, then reject and throw fits when we DO get someone who’s well written Someone who is a realistically flawed individual who can make mistakes and learn and grow from them
No thats pretty disingenuous. people hated Lanolin for putting Whisper and especially Silver in a negative light. With her being relatively new to this compared to two veteran fighters. Didnt help that it was kinda compared to victim blamey the way it was set up as well as doing Silver generally dirty.
They can't because they don't. People complain about the main characters all the time and characters like Lanolin are so-so written. How can you hate Mimic for tricking her when he's a villain and that's what you expect him to do? If people hate him, it's as a villain. But hating Lanolin is coming from a place of "You're supposed to be on our side but you just make things more difficult". Who the hell is gonna be okay with her disrespecting SILVER THE HEDGEHOG? lol You can't say that people shouldn't be mad at Lanolin for having flaws but then be mad at fans for having flaws.
@@Axxidous I mean, it's not like Silver had ever been manipulated and deceived by villain into believing he was doing the right thing and he was completely in the wrong...oh wait.
@@TheIDcard123 Just like Knuckles, and for that matter… Shadow. And oh that’s right. Freakin SONIC. LOL AND WAIT A MINUTE. Those actually make sense. Shadow’s game he was willing to be evil as an option. Silver lives in a screwy world and someone claimed to have answers to defeating Iblis. There’s no context or set example for this to be an obvious trick. Knuckles hears the words of a man who needs to fix his wrecked ship being a hedgehog stole the emeralds and destroyed it which is all actually true only for Sonic to show up in a powerful form with all the emeralds and make Knuckles believe the story more due to having a freakin mural about it. Sonic sees the Black Knight attacking Merlina first who seems otherwise defenseless. Lanolin goes against a world renowned hero who’s associated with world renowned heroes when he outright described that he actually SAW some shit. Not suspected. He saw it. You can disagree all you want. But that’s the logic behind it and apparently that’s how most people think as it’s the issue we are talking about here with people hating on her character. So…
Sonic's philosophy is fine. It's literally just how he is and hiw he's always been. He'll try and give anyone a chance because he wants everyone to be free to be themselves and do some good.
Is like the whole argument About how Batman should had just killed the Joker already, Not realizing how Dumb it's to blame the persón responsable for the Bad guy not having killed everyone already really is and not the broken system that cant ever deal with then efficiently
And that only leads to a worldwide bullet hell! If Sonic really valued the beauty of the world all that time, then he should have known better than to actively give evil doers more power to destroy it and replace it with ugly filth!
@@videogollumer It's more like Sonic knows Eggman could do some amazing things to benefit everyone, which is why he keeps giving him chances. Mr. Tinker basically proved that Sonic has a point, even if it was just temporary.
i love surge and kit so much, they're so cool! they're the reason i started reading the comics in the first place! i really like all of the idw original characters tbh and i hope they all get to show up in the games someday
What could happen is all the characters could meet the timeskip once everyone’s arcs are fleshed out enough to meet frontiers timeline. Issue 100 is a good opportunity.
Thanks to RUclips, I've recently been able to get into and get caught up on the IDW comics, and I've absolutely loved them so far, as well as all the new characters that've come with it 😊
my wish list for certain characters - For Lanolin to get humbled and regretting herself when Mimic is revealled, but to be the one to actually deal the finishing blow to Mimic and actually apologise to Whisper and Silver - For Surge and Kit to redeem themselves or at the very least become anti-heroes, and they're redemption be heart-warming with tears - For Whisper to be the one to get back on Duo's track BEFORE Mimic reveals himself and to actually face Surge and win this time, since that moment when she lost her wisps to the Tenrec and became a punching was not her finest hour - For Mimic's defeat to be utterly humiliating and have him mentally breaking down - For there to be a battle between the Diamond Cutters and Imposter Diamond Cutters (Surge vs Whisper for personal reasons and that Whisper needs to redeem herself after issues 63-64, lanolin vs Mimic because Lanolin needs to see the truth and get humbled, Tangle vs Kit due to process of elimination but also because of loyalties to their partners)
I'd mostly agree with some slight changes. For Lanolin I think she needs so show some actual leadership based on her past. She's done everything in the restoration from Secretary work to piloting and it would be nice for those support roles to actually come into play as a leader who uplifts her team in the battle As for Surge and Kit, I'd change anti-Hero to "Hero-Antagonist" she was made to literally replace Sonic, so to see her basically try to be Sonic while also entirely missing the traditional heroism point and actually be routinely fighting Sonic still as opposed to whatever the heck Shadow is would be nice. Whisper already seems to know what's up with Duo, but she seems more to be playing it smart, would be a bit better if since she knows him so well she's just waiting for him to make a slip up that's sort of a calling card for him. And since I don't think Whisper could head on actually beat Surge circle back to my first little detail of having the lamb have to use her support skills she's been building up over the course of the entire series to set Whisper up for the win.
@@codyraugh6599 How do I react to each change you've made: the first change, yes, i can agree that that does need to come into play in order to redeem Lanolin from issue 63 the second change, I'll consider the possibility, but I myself still hope Surge and Kit at least mellow out a bit the third change, I hope so, because in issue 64 it does actually seem like Whisper truly was taken in and believing she made an error that hurt an innocent and would've burst into tears had it not been for Tangle. for her to actually be acting, or at the very least not entirely convinced and maybe has her subconscious speak to her in the form of her fallen Diamond Cutter team members the fourth change, I suppose what you said about lanolin's support aiding Whisper would work against Surge, I still also wish it to be a result of Whisper's own ingenuity
@user-tq4hw2hb2j so to help sell you on them. With the two lanolin points. 1) 63 was unfortunately the only time she's actually behaved as a team leader, she didn't even get given a chance to "pull a Robin" calling out team formations or anything to suggest she has any form of actual leadership/respect of her team. And besides her still very new and underutilized bell weapon thing, she seems vastly more inexperienced and just not combat capable compared to the other two. And well sadly 63 and 64 are the only moments she actually behaved as a leader and it was all to the benefit of a villain. While her setting up Whisper for a win both kinda goes with the football/soccer and Basketball team setup where yes the star player scores, but they are given the ball by their teammates after the team brought the ball to where it needed to go. If she just gets Whisper to where Whisper needs to be in order to score her win via her piloting skills like say on the wing of a airship in the sky that alone would be enough to show that Lanolin knows her teams strengths and weaknesses enough to set them up for the win she trusts them to achieve. Though I do keep forgetting the whole gaslight in 64 but mainly because Whisper just still in general seems to be on edge and has the distraction duo still standing right next to her actual target. As for Surge, she just doesn't seem to have the proper empathy, or rather a more selfish form of it where she only uses it for Kit, especially when compared to every other heroic character, and she's also clearly as new and naive about everything as Tangle but with a very different personality about it all. And I think both she and we the readers will need more time before she mellows, so having her try to be a hero, but with the ingrained goal of "destroy Sonic" set aside and the ingrained programming of "replace him and play hero for Starline" being the next psychological issue she needs to overcome before she can really start addressing what she herself actually desires of her own will. Because I'm the Imposters miniseries Starline laid it out kinda quickly but she's meant to replace Sonic and he'd replace Eggman and they'd basically steal the show and then gaslight the entire world into thinking Starline's way, subvert all the other heroes into his willing slaves more or less. So if Surge tries to go hero, unfortunately she's going to have to overcome a lot of Starline's BS, and Sonic's fist seems to be her best teacher.
@@codyraugh6599 I see your point. Lanolin does have the smarts, skills and tacticians of leader and also at times compassion as shown in issue 58, but sadly she needs to learn the wisdom and heart of a leader. Admittedly I do flip flip a bit with Lanolin since issue 64, hating her one moment and then trying to show leniency and back and forth again, all the while defending Whisper no matter what. I guess, at the very least, you show leniency towards the Sheep, which I find good. While Whisper isn't wrong about Surge and Kit, she doesn't realise that they're also serving as somewhat a diversion for Mimic, who she really needs to watch out for. I hope she gets back on Mimic's trail BEFORE he reveals himself. I'm just curious as anxious as to how As for Surge and Kit, okay, perhaps not in the upcoming sonic riders arc she'll mellow out, but maybe in the one after that, issues 76-80. should the fifth saga follow up, and hope it's one that takes place in space, that should really lead to a full or near-full redemption nice reply, but i do have to point out that there are typos. just saying
@@RobertJames-i8j for the Surge and Kit issue, I think they just need to be left to bake a little more, including the current arc they need one or two more villain arcs, and then sometime as more a neutral force, maybe even permanently so that they don't just become Shadow 2.0 (and of course we don't want them to be just Scourge 2.0 either so they certainly need to go their own way) so they're going to also need a arc or two out of the spotlight as more background or side characters. Whenever we "time skip" Sonic Frontiers might be a good time to start easing the pair into full, whatever they become. Because honestly while anti-Hero is a broad term typically most anti-heroes remain solidly in the hero camp and need a convoluted or excessively petty reason to fight/not help a standard Hero. And separately I feel like the pair would make for an interesting scenario of flipping back and forth from being allies of Sonic, wanting to genuinely save the day, or just trying to save their reputation and/or lives, to trying to directly rival him in anything from a race to who can destroy (with emphasis on destroy on Surge's part) Eggman first to trying to stop him from stopping some minor villain because they and some other small group would benefit from a quality of life improvement from that villain's deed. Where Shadow well since Heroes he's basically had no real reason to oppose Sonic or even give half the attitude he does, because he's more or less just a straight Hero but yet he's somehow in the anti-Hero camp because he has a bad attitude but hasn't been shoved into every possible team (unlike Wolverine whose more or less the same character but is considered a straight Hero)
A curious thing over Surge and Kit, is time to time we see their original personality resurface briefly and implying the main cause of their mental inestability is that Starline basically put a nearly opposite personality of who they were, what is ironic that is the main reason Starline sccheme backfire, he explicitly disregard the imporance of who they were before, to the point he not even bother to write said data in any place PD: this lead my to belive is posible to Surge reedemed and heal her mind in the long run but Kit apear to go proyect in the opposite direction.
thanks for making this video, im planning to read sonic idw since im introducing myself and becoming a sonic fan in my holiday break, I always really liked sonic but never really got into it in depth, like an outsider if only there was an updated guide for reading the idw sonic comics this video helped me a lot so thanks again!
If Tangle and Whisper were to have speaking roles when they inevitably debut in the mainline series, I think Barbara Dunkleman (Yang Xiao Long) and Abby Trott (Nezuko) would be ideal picks for them
I thought of three for Surge: Erica Lindbeck (Mordred) Sarah Anne Williams (Nanon Jakuzare) Brittany Karbowski (Misaka Makoto) Trying to figure out some for Kit and Dr. Starline.
I like that surge and kit because they keeps the dragon ball comparison alive shadow is Vegeta, goku is sonic, silver is trunks and surge and kit can be the androids 17and 18.
Personality wise, I'd it's more like Surge = Caulifla or Kefla Kit = Mix of Cabba and Kale (Cabba because of how much he looks up to Surge how Cabba looks up to Vegeta and Kale because of how much she's dependent on Caulifla and needs Surge to bring his full potential out)
I think a part of it just comes from the frequency, it hit HARD when it first happened, but still I agree. She's very obviously struggling, her crying isn't a bag thing.
I got into the series for Whispangle and I'm staying for Whispangle. That said, I love Doctor Starline. I just can't find Eggman even a little intimidating even if he's the more competent one. Starline however hits all the right buttons.
The Metal Virus arc was just terrifying for how many things could go wrong. Especially the fact Sonic who was one the earliest victims of Virus had to constantly run to keep the infecting from spreading or he will turn into Zombot. Like for him it must of been painful to have to keep running with likely they little rest or energy. It was my favourite next to the Sonic vs Surge Arc. Also COVID must of inspired Metal Virus.
Iirc, Ian Flynn had stated that the Metal Virus arc was originally planned when writing for Archie but didn't get to add it due to what happened with Ken Penders.
It obviously isn’t needed as much as this, but I would love this for every normal sonic character Also gotta say I love the Chaotix just because I feel like saying that lol
Im with you on the chaotix too. Im glad they get alot of love in these comics. Going over every normal sonic is something i could do too! I guess what could prevent me from doing it is that its probably been done to death by many other people but I could still try and put my own spin on it at one point.
There was another panel that showed the robot's usual size. When whisper was explaining her origins to tangle. It showed from her POV saving silver and the robot seemed like he was its regular size.
I really liked his methodology and his origin as an egg fan. He actually has development from being a lackey. You can even see where his plan will in fact succeed they have to little flexibility at times and break against variables. He really tried to plan and perfect is my point.
I hated him, but that's good He was overall a good villain yet despisable, kinda like Black Bears from One Piece, and i'm glad he died the way he did, if he was still alive he would juat fall into the loss streak loop that he despised Eggman for beign on, also he gave a lot of highlight for Eggman
Thank you for making this! My attention span for reading comics is low, and it's hard for me to catch up w everything even if I WANTED TO, so seeing this video definitely helped!
Whisper is so far the best they did with the Wisps, as backstory and the way she use them, it be more fun to use if that way in comparation to the overly restrictive usage on the games.
Lanolin is someone who I think is just tired of everyone's shit. She has her own professional way of doing things, but she's trying to do it with a group that all kind of do their own thing, which to her probably looks like a lack of discipline. She kind of makes me think of Frank Grimes in that sense.
Oh sure! Ruthlessly pursuing the Phantom Rider to the point where she recklessly destroys the race track and almost gets several innocent racers killed, sOoOoO pRoFeSsIoNaL! The only thing she's a professional at is being an arrogant idiot! She's the least experienced and least powerful of the heroes; yet she's in a leadership role that she's clearly unqualified for, takes literally EVERYTHING at surface value, bullies her allies, and is a total hypocrite!
On one hand it's a good thing, what instead of "let's paint sonic green and call him scourge", they actually bothered to create new characters from beginning. On the other with so much new characters and so much subplots they actually started to push the main characters further and further away, even sometimes outright replacing them on some occasions.
I still super dig Belle’s concept as a good badnik and another Eggman robo-child alongside Metal Sonic. It’s one reason Eggman’s open affection for Sage and really Sage in general really doesn’t sit right with me (the other reason being that even _Eggman_ totally shafted Metal Sonic in the most recent Twitter Takeover in favor of Sage when asked which invention he was proudest of. Like dude, just because you have a new AI baby, you’re gonna go and ignore your *_son_* like that!?). I mean it really wasn’t even Starline who restored Eggman’s memories, it was Metal: seeing his robo-son in disrepair made him remember his true identity. So this idea of Metal’s sister who knew a completely different version of their dad but still had a certain kinship with Metal due to being another robo-child was really enticing. Metal Sonic hasn’t had true siblings since Metal Knuckles and Tails Doll, so I imagine having a genuine peer would be welcome to him. And in Metal Sonic’s defense, after Belle fixed him up, I don’t think he really _wanted_ to bitchslap her away. She _did_ make him hesitate just a little bit, and he didn’t lay a finger on her beforehand, just peacefully led her to their dad. But she was interfering with his main directive to destroy and surpass Flesh Sonic, so he had little other choice (that his programming would probably allow). Also, immediately after, he’s summoned away from the area anyway by the possibility of Eggman being in mortal danger - which Sonic just _couldn’t resist_ taunting him over, making Metal *visibly angry.* I’ve always stuck by the idea that, sure, Metal may have had his obedience hard-coded back into him since _Heroes,_ but that doesn’t mean he has to like it. I honestly think a part of him *does* resent Eggman and hates that he can’t do anything about it. Having at least a sibling who knows freedom might have given him a vicarious sense of freedom for himself. I know it’s more difficult to get a read on Metal Sonic now that he doesn’t talk anymore, but I genuinely think he doesn’t actually have anything against Belle. A fellow badnik with dreams of her own _plus_ the ability to act on them might be someone he’d actually like to have around. If it didn’t interfere with his programming, at least… Anyway, all this to say, I still think Belle has potential (especially in regards to Metal Sonic) and I hope it can be realized one day.
Technically theres two timelines the classic era and modern era especially since forces is canon. Actually im curious is the rookie from forces actually canon because no one mentions them outside of forces so like im curious.
Yea i made a mistake, assuming sigma was already a known character from sonic adventure. Thought he was one of the E series robots. I woulda had him and the scrapniks on the notable mentions for sure. Thank you for pointing it out though!
From the new characters my favorite is Mimic, idk I think he is cool, his power is interesting, I really expect some crazy development from him in the future, I see potential.
@@thismandoesntexist7814 Yeah, no, he's not gonna hold out much longer. He only serves as a means to hold Whisper back from her own character development.
@ We've been through like 50+ issues and an entire miniseries focus on Whisper development and it's still the same character without changes, I doubt we'll have much Whisper development in the future. I believe in the octopus, I don't know, I have faith in him, he's a different character than usual, he's more interesting, he doesn't give me Archie airs and I like that, Ian Flynn did a good job with the bad guys in Archie, maybe he'll do it well again, I've seen what he's capable of, he can do it again. Maybe I'm having too much faith on him, it happened to me with Starline and it went by faster than I thought, I had faith in the Blue Tails but well, I don't even remember his name and I had faith in Whisper and... we're on Issue 74, close to 75 and her character is still exactly the same... *BUT I'M NOT GOING TO GET OFF THIS SHIP UNTIL IT SINKS INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN, I KNOW THAT THE OCTOPUS BOY WILL AT LEAST HAVE A COOL ENDING!*
@@thismandoesntexist7814 Exactly why I'm saying Mimic needs to die! He's what's keeping Whisper from developing! Once he's dead, Whisper will never have to worry about him trying to kill her or her friends ever again!
Mad wild that a possum con man Thief is doing way better than the Super Genius platypus I guess it helps when you're only looking out for number one and not being a meet Ryder
Granted while I didn’t like how idw handles my favorite character shadow the hedgehog and team dark I am happy that Sonic x shadow generations did fix that and gave me back the shadow the hedgehog I knew and love growing up but that’s just my opinion.
@@TevyaSmolka im in the same boat too. The shadow in idw is definitely not the same shadow in generations. I think shadow is getting a little bit better in idw at least but still, he aint there yet.
I am never the one to ever make shipments of any character ESPECIALLY sonic characters, never would and never thought I would think it, but now idgaf and I ship Tangle and Whisper bc I just love them both and they just look great together, hate me all you want, I stay by this for as long as I can keep it up unless the story goes down a different path with them
i got a question, if the only human in idw is eggman then what exactly is shadow's past? like was he just created without any influence from maria or the gun soilders?
There IS humans but we just haven't seen them since Unleashed. For the longest time we assumed humans were no longer within the sonic canon but now that they tryna fix up the history and clear everything out within the series with its lore and plot holes, humans always been in some of the next countries
I want Starline to come back so badly. He's my favorite of the IDW newcomers and the comic hasn't felt the same since his "death" (I didn't see a body so I'm not convinced he's actually 100% gone. No body is always a sign that the writers may bring a character back later)
I think Sega want eventually use Tangle and Whisper in a future game. Tangle eassily fit a 2d game, with Whisper she need a 3d game either a Adventure format(where each characther has its own mechanics) or Heroes format. Besides them is Surge to fill the position of a Rival(at least for now, we now how is Sonic saga with these type of characthers) I mention these 3 because Sega is promoting them litle by little, they were added to Sonic Forces:Speed Battle(plus the mention on Frontiers), what is weird as the other fall in 3 categories Game characthers, Suits variants, and the late self promotinal, chacthers from the upcoming movie and Sonic prime. There are others that could be added to the games to fill empty roles, for example Clutch as a middle antagonist, he is not with Eggman but he profit from his destruction and other illegal activities, using Rought and Tumble as hired muscle(thougth they are mercenaires so Eggman can use them too), if you think over it the only one that fit this role is Fang, and look like Sega want him as a exclusive classic characther
Yeah and hopefully after the Riders arc she eventually wears her riders outfit as a secondary outfit not just the base main outfit as well and still have a little reference to both Ashura and Scourge!
@@petertilton7004 Lanolin from Garfield was pessimistic and grumpy; but she wasn't nearly as stupid or as same side antagonistic as the Jenny-ass sheep of the same name in this comic!
Fun Fact about Nite and Don, to my knowledge they’re the first confirmed gay couple in the franchise! I hope they use the pair a bit more outside of the annuals and one-shots, was pretty happy to see them in the Phantom Riders arc 🙂↕️🙂↕️
yeah, nite and don were made to be a couple from the very start, which is how they got past the "no romance" rule I believe staff have mentioned desire to have tangle and whisper be together too, but they can't currently do that
Interesting that Ian Flynn stated that the characters have to be game related but yet he's creating characters that are not game-based. His character are nothing more than Temu Freedom Fighters.
I would like a video on how much the comic version of the characters differ from the game versions in terms of their personality, relationships and the like.
The thing with mimic shows what amazing potential is being missed in SatAM Sea3on. If anyone is reading this who is aware of the fan comic that is also being turned into a fan animation by another group of fans, Sea3on is basically a fan made season 3 of Sonic SATAM. It's a pretty good, albeit unfinished comic. And the fans doing the animated adaptation have been working on it since 2015. Do with that info what you will but the animation is good. The voice acting is hit and miss depending on the character, and also switching VA's here and there. But there are still some parts that are very fan-esque feeling and don't really feel like the vibe of SatAM itself so much as.. well.. a comic. But you'll all still love it. So what's the problem? The ending of SatAM shows a pair of glowing red eyes that look like Sonic's. They confirmed years later that it was a character named Naugus. So the comic's and anmation's big hook are the red glowing eyes which is the reveal of Naugus' return. Except they draw the red eyes like his normal 2 separated eyes and just... reveal Naugus is back. HOWEVER, in the actual show, when you meet Naugus, it's revealed he's a shape shifter who pretended to be Sally's dad in order to be rescued from the Void. They end up having to return to the void because they get slowly turned to crystal when they escape. Sea3on completely disregards the red eyes looking like Sonic's eyes as though it was a mistake rather than recognizing the implied scenario that Naugus was intending to shape-shift into Sonic, and the fact that they must have found a way for him to fend off the crystallization. Again, the plotline with Mimic shows there's potential in shape shifter characters even when you know such a character exists.
Does anyone else kinda ship lanolin with shadow? I know they haven’t spoken a word to each other or know that each other even exist but I feel like they would get along quite well especially since they both have that resting b*tch face thing going on lol
That's about ALL they have in common. Lanolin's a blind adherent to civil order and Shadow's pragmatic. Lanolin wouldn't like how Shadow "breaks protocol", and Shadow wouldn't like how stupid Lanolin's reasoning is.
The one thing I hate about love stories is that if they go on an adventure together they have to fall in love, which is stupid and is exactly why I don’t want whisper x tangle to be canon
@@insertnamehere1398 how would it be silly? I literally never made that connection when I read the books, and it was more silly that whisper wasn't immediately shiped with silver I mean he was the character that introduced her to the sonic canon
Agreed. I miss when friends of the same sex were just friends. Not everything needs to be romantic. I like Whisper and Tangle being just besties or sisters in name.
Wait it’s not just cuz they go on adventures Together this has been set up since before that when they met before the Raid on angel island The miniseries the main series… Also Lanolin has been on adventures with sonic and others she has no ship Same with belle Or surge It’s 100% not a writing thing it’s a them thing
Yes, Whisper and Tangle are girlfriends! in one of the panels the lesbian flag appears behind them and Ian Flin (who created the two) confirmed that he wanted to make it more explicit (in the sense of clearer and more obvious) that they are a couple. like, there's no denying that about them when the panel LITERALLY has the lesbian flag with them in front holding hands!! So yes, these two sillies are girlfriends! And as someone who is LGBT and who always loved their dynamic and already shipped them, this just makes me happy. :3 PS: and if someone doesn't like them because they are gay, please remove yourself from the Sonic fandom because this franchise more than any other is about freedom to be who you are and Sega has already shown that it is at least supportive of the LGBT community! So if you have a problem with this, go away and please don't comment anything. ^-^
the colors of a sunset is not the lesbian flag, characters are allowed to have platonic relationships or brotherly/sisterly love, please go goon over sonic characters somewhere else
there is 0 chance sega will use them, they could but they wont, if you want to play semantics and say 0 chance is not 0.0000000000000001% chances, but they appear to ignore comics all together since the inception of sonic in general, mangas and ovas too, some game exclusive characters like emerld have jump to another mediums but never an american/european sonic character has enter the oficial line up.
Tangle, Whisper, and Surge are all playable in the mobile games, and Sega considers the comic canon. The characters showing up in the mainline games is going to happen eventually
@Jords2good wechnia is a corrupted mixture of mighty, knuckles, and tails in knuckles chaotix that can be found in the level select menu when picking your characters, and Ashura is a glitched pallette swap of sonic in sonic 2 by having over 90 objects on screen in debug mode while being in emerald Hill zone. In simple terms, they are glitch characters
Additionally, Kit is based off of the Blue Tails glitch, a slightly more obscure version of S3&K's famous Blue Knuckles glitch. All three are based on glitches, thus why a lot of people call them the glitch trio.
Out of all the IDW characters I honestly think Starline is the most interesting and his character design is incredibly strong, I honestly think it's on par with the original cast, if there was one character from the comics I could pick to become part of the main Sonic franchise it'd be him, though I would like him to be handled differently than in the comics, focusing more on hypnosis and outside the box ideas to contrast Eggman's very predictable style and perhaps growing into a morally ambiguous character who can help the heroes as much as he can hinder them. Personally I really hope he comes back, because the way they did him in was dirty, going out with a whimper. The thing I love about Starline is his potential and how he's a growing character and imperfect villain, how often do you get to see a villain actually rise to prominence and struggle to actually get their plans off the ground? It's so refreshing, makes him feel a lot more interesting, unlike Eggman who can pull off the most ridiculous things seemingly with little to no effort and rather than making him menacing it makes Eggman boring, he's too perfect of a villain. If Starline comes back I'd love for him to be covert and subtly hypnotizing everyone, making it so that nobody sure who they can trust, as anyone, even themselves, have no idea if they have hypnotic commands implanted by Starline in their head that he made them forget about and if their friends or even themselves will suddenly turn. Oh and when I say he should come back I don't mean as a cyborg or something like that, but perhaps he had an "extra life" ready in a tank somewhere so if he died he'd have his consciousness transferred to that clone of himself, that would definitely be an interesting use of his bio-tech and you'd never know if you well and truly got rid of him, since he might have more hidden away.
Once IDW stories end I think a Sonic game with there Characters in it can work. I also suggest characters Bios explaining all characters both Comic originals and Game originals to explain what point there at. I have my ideas but there long. My game Idea is one that takes a failed idea due to execution that IDW was force to fix/ address well still focusing on Sonic. What if Sonic out of the picture, and we’ll Sonic need to fight himself internally we switch to play as Sonic friends in order to continue taking down Eggman next world control plot. When it came to who playable I say have teams of characters with a clear leader, Knuckles coming back to help mainly sticking with Shadow and Rouge(Exploration Combat mission), Tails being with most the group Flying high making call out(Defend the base Mission), and Amy with Tangle (duo swapping puzzle solving) seeking out the location of Emeralds and where they were hidden for safe keeping. The few living villains (sorry starline) can be paid hired nuisance for resistance well Sonic fight his inner demons, inner fears, inner Chaos, and his own ideals as pass fights and moments that represent them try making Sonic give up. Sonic is basically comatose by a nano virus that doesn’t spread and Tails is trying to remove from Sonic system well needing to take leadership in these dire times for Sonic.
No, it should not. The fight is in the perspective of Surge who antagonizes Sonic before she ever met him, Sonic is portrayed in a "bad light" on purpose. + Sonic acting cocky is fully in character as he has seen many of her 'type' before and knows how it ends, so he tries to speed up the process and tell her how it is and he has no reason to be all understanding with her when the first thing she does is try to kill him.

And besides, this video needs an update with new lore updates with these characters.
Especially for surge, kit, mimic and the diamond cutters.
And adding more that i missed (Scrapniks!!!)
And here's the 10-second version of the IDW characters explained:
Tangle: Loud, hyper lemur girl.
*lol*
I think sage would be the "mix of" belle, since belle sorta came first, both irl and timeline wise.
Isn't whisper also a metal gear solid reference.

I honestly love that sonic isn't a series with one definitive story compared to a series like mario, it can take place in different settings or universes without feeling weird or non canonical (most of the time) that's one of things that make this franchise great

People hating lanolin for being tricked by mimic, moreso than people hating mimic for tricking her, always sits weird with me
Sonic fans can’t cry and whine over all the Main characters being made one dimensional and bland,
then reject and throw fits when we DO get someone who’s well written
Someone who is a realistically flawed individual who can make mistakes and learn and grow from them
No thats pretty disingenuous. people hated Lanolin for putting Whisper and especially Silver in a negative light.
Who the hell is gonna be okay with her disrespecting SILVER THE HEDGEHOG? lol
You can't say that people shouldn't be mad at Lanolin for having flaws but then be mad at fans for having flaws.

AND WAIT A MINUTE.

I love how you put that emo ass music in Kitsunami' introduction lol
@@ihavenojawandimustscream4681 That should be his theme. Fits perfectly
my wish list for certain characters
- For Lanolin to get humbled and regretting herself when Mimic is revealled, but to be the one to actually deal the finishing blow to Mimic and actually apologise to Whisper and Silver
- For Surge and Kit to redeem themselves or at the very least become anti-heroes, and they're redemption be heart-warming with tears
- For Whisper to be the one to get back on Duo's track BEFORE Mimic reveals himself and to actually face Surge and win this time, since that moment when she lost her wisps to the Tenrec and became a punching was not her finest hour
- For Mimic's defeat to be utterly humiliating and have him mentally breaking down
- For there to be a battle between the Diamond Cutters and Imposter Diamond Cutters (Surge vs Whisper for personal reasons and that Whisper needs to redeem herself after issues 63-64, lanolin vs Mimic because Lanolin needs to see the truth and get humbled, Tangle vs Kit due to process of elimination but also because of loyalties to their partners)
I'd mostly agree with some slight changes.
For Lanolin I think she needs so show some actual leadership based on her past. She's done everything in the restoration from Secretary work to piloting and it would be nice for those support roles to actually come into play as a leader who uplifts her team in the battle
As for Surge and Kit, I'd change anti-Hero to "Hero-Antagonist" she was made to literally replace Sonic, so to see her basically try to be Sonic while also entirely missing the traditional heroism point and actually be routinely fighting Sonic still as opposed to whatever the heck Shadow is would be nice.
@@codyraugh6599 How do I react to each change you've made:
the first change, yes, i can agree that that does need to come into play in order to redeem Lanolin from issue 63
the second change, I'll consider the possibility, but I myself still hope Surge and Kit at least mellow out a bit
the third change, I hope so, because in issue 64 it does actually seem like Whisper truly was taken in and believing she made an error that hurt an innocent and would've burst into tears had it not been for Tangle. for her to actually be acting, or at the very least not entirely convinced and maybe has her subconscious speak to her in the form of her fallen Diamond Cutter team members
the fourth change, I suppose what you said about lanolin's support aiding Whisper would work against Surge, I still also wish it to be a result of Whisper's own ingenuity
I'm just curious as anxious as to how
As for Surge and Kit, okay, perhaps not in the upcoming sonic riders arc she'll mellow out, but maybe in the one after that, issues 76-80. should the fifth saga follow up, and hope it's one that takes place in space, that should really lead to a full or near-full redemption
nice reply, but i do have to point out that there are typos.
A curious thing over Surge and Kit, is time to time we see their original personality resurface briefly and implying the main cause of their mental inestability is that Starline basically put a nearly opposite personality of who they were, what is ironic that is the main reason Starline sccheme backfire, he explicitly disregard the imporance of who they were before, to the point he not even bother to write said data in any place
PD: this lead my to belive is posible to Surge reedemed and heal her mind in the long run but Kit apear to go proyect in the opposite direction.

The Metal Virus arc was just terrifying for how many things could go wrong. Lanolin is someone who I think is just tired of everyone's shit. She has her own professional way of doing things, but she's trying to do it with a group that all kind of do their own thing, which to her probably looks like a lack of discipline.

Also, immediately after, he’s summoned away from the area anyway by the possibility of Eggman being in mortal danger - which Sonic just _couldn’t resist_ taunting him over, making Metal *visibly angry.*
I’ve always stuck by the idea that, sure, Metal may have had his obedience hard-coded back into him since _Heroes,_ but that doesn’t mean he has to like it.
If it didn’t interfere with his programming, at least…
Anyway, all this to say, I still think Belle has potential (especially in regards to Metal Sonic) and I hope it can be realized one day.
Not gonna happen. There's only one freedom Metal Sonic cares about, and that's the freedom to destroy Sonic.
Technically theres two timelines the classic era and modern era especially since forces is canon. Actually im curious is the rookie from forces actually canon because no one mentions them outside of forces so like im curious.

The shadow in idw is definitely not the same shadow in generations.
I think shadow is getting a little bit better in idw at least but still, he aint there yet.
Urban Warfare already did that.
@@Jords2good well that’s good news at least are boy shadow the hedgehog is getting better in idw finally so yay 😀
@@videogollumer really that’s interesting I need to check that out.
Saying Frontiers was better than Generations has got to be a crime.
@@killerbean4328 not as a whole. I was saying its better then generations when it comes to storytelling.
@Jords2good oh my bad bro
I am never the one to ever make shipments of any character ESPECIALLY sonic characters, never would and never thought I would think it, but now idgaf and I ship Tangle and Whisper bc I just love them both and they just look great together, hate me all you want, I stay by this for as long as I can keep it up unless the story goes down a different path with them
also Whisper worked alone cuz shes a Lone Wolf
Let’s not forget the hero of Sonic Forces himself
Ian Jr.
Ah but hes from the game! Not an IDW exclusive character. I got him next video tho
i got a question, if the only human in idw is eggman then what exactly is shadow's past? like was he just created without any influence from maria or the gun soilders?
There IS humans but we just haven't seen them since Unleashed.
For the longest time we assumed humans were no longer within the sonic canon but now that they tryna fix up the history and clear everything out within the series with its lore and plot holes, humans always been in some of the next countries
I want Starline to come back so badly. He's my favorite of the IDW newcomers and the comic hasn't felt the same since his "death" (I didn't see a body so I'm not convinced he's actually 100% gone. No body is always a sign that the writers may bring a character back later)
But tbf this is a kids comic they can’t show you a damn body
They never showed the Diamond cutters bodies and they are CAPITAL D DEAD
I think Sega want eventually use Tangle and Whisper in a future game. Tangle eassily fit a 2d game, with Whisper she need a 3d game either a Adventure format(where each characther has its own mechanics) or Heroes format. Besides them is Surge to fill the position of a Rival(at least for now, we now how is Sonic saga with these type of characthers)
I mention these 3 because Sega is promoting them litle by little, they were added to Sonic Forces:Speed Battle(plus the mention on Frontiers), what is weird as the other fall in 3 categories Game characthers, Suits variants, and the late self promotinal, chacthers from the upcoming movie and Sonic prime.
I stand for surge. Really, who wouldn’t?
Shes pretty dope ngl, definitely one most liked newcomers
@@Jords2good You know she's a good character when she makes it to the Sonic mobile games alongside Tangle and Whisper
Yeah and hopefully after the Riders arc she eventually wears her riders outfit as a secondary outfit not just the base main outfit as well and still have a little reference to both Ashura and Scourge!
Wasn't there a Lanolin in Garfield?
U.S.Acres, but yes.
@videogollumer Could they be the same... oh wait... no...
@@Lucatrocity i think its safe to say, they deserve their own chapter in the next video! They're pretty cool in the phantom riders arc!
yeah, nite and don were made to be a couple from the very start, which is how they got past the "no romance" rule
I believe staff have mentioned desire to have tangle and whisper be together too, but they can't currently do that
So whisper is the equivalent of deku from my hero
too bad this was made before the 2024 annual
as we got more of Surge, Kit, Whisper and Mimic
@@cofagrigusfan24 yea. I could start working on a update video, whenever this clutch storyline finishes.
Almost all these characters are in sonic forces endless runner
My favourite is Mimic
Kits powers are the counter to Sonic and surges are the counter to tails. Kit can be ruthless.
LOL could work
That's about ALL they have in common. Lanolin's a blind adherent to civil order and Shadow's pragmatic. Lanolin wouldn't like how Shadow "breaks protocol", and Shadow wouldn't like how stupid Lanolin's reasoning is.
Forgot Gala the Hound
no mention of the scrapniks (even if the role was TINY) makes me very :(

fav character is surge.
LAN-olin? Or Lan-O-lin? I usually put the emphasis on the 'o', does anybody else do that?
Yea im thinkin its Lan-O-lin but its still an annoying name to pronounce lol. Always say it different each time
Yes i do too.
It just feels right lol
Surge was a character in old school sonic comics. They did rework the character. Originally it was just a evil dimension sonic
Does anyone else _also_ think Tangle would sound cool with a raspy tomboyish voice and a Jamaican accent?
Yes and no respectively.
@@videogollumer Are Jamaican accents seriously _that_ hard to understand?
@@samschmit7181 No, I just don't think it's a good fit for Tangle.
If Sega didn’t have mandates, they would in this modern day and age. You know what I’m talking about
The one thing I hate about love stories is that if they go on an adventure together they have to fall in love, which is stupid and is exactly why I don’t want whisper x tangle to be canon
but.. they DO have immaculate chemistry. like. it would be silly if they DIDN'T get together. but for any other example I would fully agree
@@insertnamehere1398just say you have a lesbians kink and move on
Wait it’s not just cuz they go on adventures Together this has been set up since before that when they met before the Raid on angel island The miniseries the main series…
Also Lanolin has been on adventures with sonic and others she has no ship Same with belle Or surge It’s 100% not a writing thing it’s a them thing
PS: and if someone doesn't like them because they are gay, please remove yourself from the Sonic fandom because this franchise more than any other is about freedom to be who you are and Sega has already shown that it is at least supportive of the LGBT community!

Tbf Ian did put tangle In as a refrence in frontiers So I’d say like 7% right now

Did you know that Dr. Starline and Surge were designed and based off of Wechnia and Ashura
I have no idea who those characters are....where are they from?
@Jords2good wechnia is a corrupted mixture of mighty, knuckles, and tails in knuckles chaotix that can be found in the level select menu when picking your characters, and Ashura is a glitched pallette swap of sonic in sonic 2 by having over 90 objects on screen in debug mode while being in emerald Hill zone. In simple terms, they are glitch characters
@@FartingDuck509 Scourge from the Archie Comics was also based on Ashura
Mimic: Professional hater
No hating
3:33 =З
Main issue with sonic was the one panel which honestly should have been redrawn to portray sonic as being sympathetic instead of a dick.
Mimic is an Octopus?! He looks like a rejected spatoon character.
