in stardew valley expanded (mod) krobus has a lot more backstory and cutscenes and there’s a point in your friendship where he basically convinces the other shadow people that not all humans are bad and after a certain cutscene the shadow creatures in the mines stop attacking you which i really like as a story point! if they don’t hurt you there’s no reason to kill them and it helps with the morality thing
I always wished that was a feature of moving in with Krobus, I always felt that that should be enough to make the shadow people not attack while in the Mines
Speaking of Stardew Expanded, a nice sequel/extension to this series would be deep dives on the Expanded romanceble NPCs! Claire, Sophia, Victor, Olivia, Lance, and of course the Wizard ;););)

OMG I got married this April as well! (I just found Fiona this week and have been binging all her vids) Congrats!
A simple change that would really help i think is if the shadow enemies in the mines only attack you if you are wielding a weapon close to them.
You got your pickax out and they be like: ah, just a human doing some work
you got your sword out running full speed and they be like: AH! that's a psycho murderer!
thats a good point! it could be like zombie piglins from minecraft, where they only attack you if you attack them first
maybe they would run from you instead of attacking if you arent holding a weapon
NGL the update that allowed me to "marry" Krobus got me back into Stardew after not opening the game in years.

As someone who doesn't care for romance in games but felt lonely on the farm, having a roommate option was so nice. I love Krobus! He's so sweet

His dialogue when giving him a gift on his birthday mentions that he "hatched" which I just think is silly
35:18 Minor correction: There is an Eradication Goal for "Void Spirits". The Shadow Brutes, Shadow Shamen, and Shadow Snipers are all considered "Void Spirits". The use of the word "Spirits" could also be evidence for the Shadow People not having much of a physical form.

as someone who had krobus as a roommate the first time i got perfection, I DIDNT KNOW YOUR SPOUSE IS USUALLY UP THERE UNTIL I WATCHED YOUR VIDEOS i thought everyone got lewis at the summit 😭 and now i’m working on perfection again in 1.6 and i got krobus as a roommate and THEN learned about the summit cutscenes and now i’m conflicted if i want to evict krobus (despicable thought) and marry someone so i don’t have to see lewis (despicable man) up there again or if i should just deal with lewis and keep my sweet krobus around 😭

On my current main file I want to marry and divorce everyone, to get all events (and since 1.6, all portraits). It's hard enough to do that to all the Bachelor/ette/s, but I can _not_ do that to Krobus, so he's going to be last.

I love that you keep the little animations going every time you pull up the Shadow Brute and Shadow Shaman sprites. It makes me giggle every time.
Also, fun fact I accidentally discovered one time when Krobus was my roommate! If you spawn slimes in your house and they attack them, if you talk to them afterwards, they'll say something like, "Honey, why are there monsters in the house?". I was so thrown off by them calling me 'Honey' the first time, but I do kinda like the idea of them not realizing it's a romantic nickname and they sometimes use it for you.
That's funny! I wonder if it was unintentional. I think I've seen that same dialogue from Sebastian in someone else's video

Fun fact: The dwarf is actually referred to as a lady by a fortune teller in some (possibly unused?) dialogue, even though their gender in the games files is undefined! We love a mysterious critter
i don't think the shadow guy is krobus, only because you can unlock the sewers before you get to winter, so in theory he would recognize you when you surprise him. obviously that's not exactly how games work, but its fun to theorize
Tbf the heart events of the other characters are the same.
For example, you can be great friends with Haley, but enter her house late. Her first two events don't make sense in that case.
i love the fact that the dwarf and krobus live as far as possible from each other in the town (mountain top vs sewer)
59:46 this is why I love stardew valley community so much. There's a mod for this. It's called platonic partners and friendship. It's very customizable. Also being aroace and loving Krobus is so true in my case
It is interesting to note that a shadow person can also be seen during the spirits eve event on even years, even if you haven't unlocked the sewers. While we cant talk to them, there is a good chance that it is Krobus since he mentions watching humans in some of his dialog so I think he can actually leave whenever he wants and goes into town at night. He doesn't have any bones, so what is keeping him from squeezung through the gaps in the bars?

I absolutely love your content. I want to thank you again for describing the events. Be it intentional or otherwise, you're describing details in scenes that I was never privy to as a blind player of Stardew. I know I've mentioned this before, but I think it's worth reiterating how much I appreciate your efforts. It's a degree of accessibility that other content creators don't think about, and I'm not saying that they should because, lets face it, about 99.989% of their audience would probably not need or appreciate the minutia.
Hope your matrimonial endeavour is going well, and I hope we get a photo of wedding cake on Fiona face! I won't be able to enjoy it, but hey, others will. :D Tell your husband that just because you're getting married, doesn't mean his work is done. He still has four more hearts to earn!
At the very end of the video Fiona did include a picture of her in her wedding dress looking like a greek goddess in her sweetheart cut lace gown and dress train, there's a note over the picture that says "Took so long to make this that I got married lmao"

I personally believe the timeline goes as followed, Dwarfs land on Earth -> settle underground -> open up a portal to the void dimension and attempt to take over the shadow people’s land -> the shadow people fight back -> Elemental War Begins -> Both civilizations end up collapsing -> War continues -> ends shortly before the present day Stardew (maybe about a few millennia since krobus doesn’t grow old his perception of time might be different)
I'm so glad you did Krobus. I always room with them and I thought you wouldn't do a video about them. I'm ace and in the aro spectrum, and I love the companionship without the need for romance. I'm so glad you did though. Thanks 😊
If you play on pc/mac, there are mods that let you set any/all of the bachelor/ettes to platonic and change their dialogue. I had the 8 heart event with Penny (set to platonic) and if you say you want a big family, she says it would be nice if you both had kids at the same time so they could be friends! The Platonic Partners and Spouses mod even lets you move in with people platonically. I use them because I don't like that getting to 8 hearts with all of the bachelor/ettes involves semi-romancing them, but the friendship bracelet that you craft from the marriage pendant to ask someone to move in platonically can be set to the ace or aro flag colours!

Krobus calls the sewers his refuge. Since he's different from other shadow people maybe he wasn't imprisoned (rip Krobus war criminal theory) but rather stayed there willingly. Maybe whoever locked him in there did it for his safety especially considering him being gentle and non-violent probably means he wouldn't want to fight during the elemental wars. He only fights the Dwarf when he's pushed to it so while he's capable of fighting maybe he hid in the sewers so he wouldn't have to.

correction on the shadow people dont show up on the monster eradication goals : The goal for 'void spirits' counts as them, and you get a SUPER overpowered ring for completing it
I also really like the stardew valley expanded mod because after doing a BUNCH of different things there is a 10 heart krobus event where you get into contact with other shadowpeople , do a task for them and than they don't attack you anymore and it makes it feel like i've made a difference ya know
Your head-canon of Krobus setting up a shop so people would come and see him and like him because he learned people like to shop is something I never considered before and it makes Krobus even more adorable. 😭😭 I’m definitely gonna think about that the next time I play. 😭🖤

Your videos always make me fall in love with the characters. I had never interacted with Krobus much and now I kinda want to bring him in to live with me and my partner once we start our co-op farm!
I was NOT expecting the parallels of Tenrose to Krobus' relationship with the player but I'm absolutely here for it
Perhaps the player can understand the shadow people for the same reason the player can understand the Junimo, and because the wizard made the player drink the strange potion with the floating trees

I genuinely love how FASCINATING you make these characters! I recently started playing last December. Your tangents (ex. The philosophical history of “voids”) is so cool and adds to the gaming experience. I’m so happy someone makes Stardew Valley character explanations to this level, I get so sick of the quick and biased videos on the NPC’s.
I'm so glad you made this video. After befriending Krobus in game I have the hardest time going into floors 80+ in the mines. Appreciate you saying that you're not a terf, it's funny that the HP reference was about narrative dissonance anyways lol.
I think Stardew Valley should and deserves to be analyzed like this. I love the game, it's so interesting to pick apart. It's a big work of art and it's got social and cultural influences of all kinds... And since it's made by one guy you can really dig in, I think. (I have some probably controversial opinions centered around Demetrius that I've kept to myself but ugh maybe I'll at least write the essay..)
One of the reasons i love stardew expanded (yes i know it’s not canon) but they add more to Krokus and the shadow people. You eventually reach a stage where shadow people will no longer see you as a threat and won’t attack you
If you go into youtube as full time, just know i would love to hear someone that worked as a narrative designer break down all kinds of video game characters! Not just stardew. So anyways love you! Keep doing what ur doing! ❤

Without spoiling anything-- the Stardew Valley Expanded mod (who was made by FlashShifter--who was hired to help make the newest 1.6 update) explores a lot more about the implications of the ludonarrative dissonance you mentioned about the Shadow People as monsters vs beings, while giving some Really Good Lore! I can't reccomend it enough!
I think exploring the Stardew expanded mod (video essay style) would be a super cool video idea for after this series is complete!
