This is just my experience, I wear 1/2" (13mm) Plugs, and I've had this one pair of wooden plugs for over eight years. I only wear em' during the winter time on days where it's really cold, but I do own a total of four wooden plugs. And all I do is take em' out before I shower, and when and if I wanna put em' back in, I do use soap and water to wash em' and then I place em' back into my ears. Nothing has happened to em', not problems or issues, these plugs are over eight years old, and I think they may be just a tad more dull as far as tone goes, they're not as shiny as they once were, but u can get wood shiner/ polisher from Home Depot or something if that's like stupid important to u. So I think as long as u don't frkn soak and drench the dang things, then it'll be fine. Again, this is just my own personal experience, because not washing ur plugs with soap & water in my opinion, is just downright gross.
I use jojoba oil meant for gauges. It creates a barrier so if they do end up getting wet it doesn't do anything that I have noticed. I've had them in non stop for 6 months. Never take them out for showering or swimming. I clean them daily and put that gauge butter on them and good to go
I totally forgot about this and wore my wood plugs into the shower and removed them to clean my ears.. And didn't take them out of the cup so they were in the shower for almost a week. They actually splintered when I dried them, had to throw them away :(
Neidy Mendes you can do aftercare for whatever you want.. for bone and other organic oil I’d imagine you could use the oils he talks about in this video... I’m it an expert or professional though
I put my plugs out every night cause I uncomfortable to sleep with my plugs on. But it's a little bit difficult to put them on next day so I have to moisturize my ears with water before it. 😅 Is it ok if I put my plugs in wet ears?
Yes if a lot of sweat gets on them and the get wet enough or too much hair products...you can ruin the jewelry. Plus sweat has salt in it so I'm sure the wood could get compromised if the plugs are continuously exposed to that kind of moisture. Wood plugs should be worn sparingly.
I hopped into the shower with mine on but I wash my hair last so they didn’t get soaked but splashed. Luckily I just put avocado oil on them so nothing happened to them.. they’re my fave cause they don’t smell and they’re super comfy. 😝
I usually put just a small amount of jojoba oil daily on my lobes and the flare of the plug before I put it in. I take them out daily to shower and then put a tiny dab of oil on when I put them back in. Is this overkill?
I wasn't aware of the water situation and my plugs expanded a bit, I tried to insert them in my lobes and they wouldn't fit. Is there a way to oil them back to the size they were before? Because my sizes are pretty pricy and I wasn't looking forward to buying a new pair anytime soon, considering I just got the plugs I might of ruined.
hi, great video, as per request of below people, below request:" can you do a video for cleaning surgical stainless steel, glass, and tunnels/plugs of other materials? please? that'd be great.
Thanks a lot for this informative video! I just got my first pair of wooden plugs and will definitely think about these tips and tricks! Does coconut oil work as well?
Waaaaay late but I clean my non-porous plugs with dr bronner's unscented. I wear mostly glass. I clean them every other day or so, or whenever I swap plugs... wooden/bone I use the same method he showed! 😊
So i used a wood plug to stretch my ears kinda a little bit of tearing its been like a week now they are much better but still cant take them off, any advice recommendations? Thanks!
Hey, coconut oil is ok. Just use something that your ears like. You can even use gauge gear or holey butter or something like that. I like gauge gear because it has tea tree oil in it and that helps keep the wood clean without ruining them.
I stopped using wood plugs cause they dry my ears out to quick and hurt like a mofo to take out.. definitely be careful with wood.. cause iv gotten small cuts before taking um out

Have had my wood plugs in for almost a year now. Clean them every once in a while. Swimming and showering doesn't seem to damage mine. (20mm)
Wood expands aproximately 5% in volume if soaked. This can lead to small tears in the earlobe and lead to infections and itchness ):
i just found this out and i been wearing mine all the time in the shower 😔
How do you sanitize wood plugs/jewelry?
Can you do an aftercare for bone plugs and other organic plugs?
Neidy Mendes you can do aftercare for whatever you want.. for bone and other organic oil I’d imagine you could use the oils he talks about in this video... I’m it an expert or professional though
Can coconut oil be used? I use unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil for my skin and for cooking... So never in short supply.

Can you use coconut oil?
So, I’m guessing I shouldn’t wear them if I’m working out or it’s really hot outside.
Can I work out or running while wearing them? I wonder if perspiration also damage like water?

Does Jojoba oil make the wood darker?
I usually put just a small amount of jojoba oil daily on my lobes and the flare of the plug before I put it in. I take them out daily to shower and then put a tiny dab of oil on when I put them back in. Is this overkill?
Best explanation ever!

Do you have a video on how to clean your ears after you just changed sizes with a taper?
hi, great video, as per request of below people, below request:" can you do a video for cleaning surgical stainless steel, glass, and tunnels/plugs of other materials? please? that'd be great.
Either use an autoclave ($60 amazon) or boil the jewelry for 10 minutes that'll kill anything
Thanks a lot for this informative video! I just got my first pair of wooden plugs and will definitely think about these tips and tricks! Does coconut oil work as well?

Is it ok to use petrolium jelly instead?
No. Never put petroleum jelly near your piercings lol

Carlos Corona Do you mean they are stuck on your ears?
yeah they were until they started healing they are all good now thank god!
Lol. Don't use wood plugs for stretching. Stainless is a great option.
Needed this. Thankssss
would coconut oil work? Are there any specifics to look for with the oil?
