Well spotted on the fact that the end of this song segues straight into 'Domination' from the same gig. I've seen this video a zillion times and what I find myself looking out for is the exchange of a riff in the middle of the song between Misa and Kanami. Where Misa plays her turn and looks over her shoulder to Kanami standing on the upper level, thinking- your turn.
Found you this morning at 4am as I realized my job was a wash out from rain today. Watched all your Maid reactions and have enjoyed them. The maids are number 1 in live music imo right now. Also worth watching is Nemophilia if you haven't seen them.
Three highlights for me. That four bass drum beat at 12:22, Miku commanding the audience to SING! shortly after, and of course, the sixth member of the band, the audience, participating at the right times. They know their job :D You mentioned all the little things that set them apart from others, and that's my fascination with them. I've never known a band to be so repeatable without noticing something new each time.
I don't think she's shouting SING, I think she's shouting SE as a kind of "everyone, all together" kind of thing. There's a phrase, issei no se, where "issei" means "everyone ready?" and "no se" means "ok, go!" and you often hear bands say "sei no" before they do something together at the same time, like a shorter version. I assume Miku is shouting SE! as an even shorter version, just the "go!" bit, but it's meant in that "everyone together!" sense instead of a "SING NOW" thing. Feels like it would fit her vibe more!
You were right, it was the start of Domination at the end of Play. They were the 21st song (play) and 22nd song (Domination) of a 23 song set, so those two songs were 2 hours into the show.
They just do stuff, they really don't have to! One of the really engaging things for many, especially musicians with this band. Yes , it is Domination and a VERY emotional Endless Story to finale this gig.
Can you take a look at Sense /band maid / "Sense" is the eighth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on October 27, 2021, by Pony Canyon.[1] The song was used as the opening theme song for the anime Platinum End. 🙂
Firstime I heard my friends play this songs in the car & I said "this songs is so good so technical even I don't understand the language". He said "this is female band". And I just "oh its normal a band with female singer". Then he said "No. I mean all female band, female guitarist, female drummer, female bass, female shredding, female singer". And I was "No way, there's no way female can play all that stuff as a band. All I know all female band was just like kpop that all female are singer, not playing the instruments". From that time, I fall in love with band maid.
@@davidornberg They lead the planet in female bands. There are close to at least 20 groups that are extremely talented, with some like SCANDAL and Glim Spanky who have been around together for 16 or 17 years. There are few J-Rock bands who broke up for various who were excellent, especially Stereopony and Girlfriend. Some others are Bridear, Trident, Gacharic Spin, Lovebites, Nemophila, Aldious, Doll$Box and quite a few more. Just a wealth of female bands. And Japan has a lot of talented female groups in their jazz/funk scene, like The Jazz Avengers, The Sax Triplets, Uko Saxy and quite a few others.
@@davidornberg Absolutely !!!! In another reactor's page there was a lot of discussion about Stereopony and about the music scene in Okinawa, specifically Shonen Knife and Chatmonchy. I'll have to add your selections to my list. I automatically assumed Stereopony was Japanese, though if I recall my history correctly, Okinawa is part of the same prefecture as Tokyo and is considered part of Tokyo. Thanks for the info.
Originally to be an instrumental. Saiki like it and asked Miku to write lyrics for it. I first heard an earlier version before Miku played her guitar as much. This is the video that confirmed the superb musicianship of MISA for me. If someone submitted the story of this band for a movie, it would be rejected as too unbelievable. They have come a long way from getting from Gig to Gig in a small van (Akane drove). Loading and unloading their equipment. Waiting for you to react to Cluppo, hint it's Miku!!!
You've got a great ear for music, my friend. I learn a lot. Would love to hear your take on "Puzzle" and "Blooming", two songs of Band-Maid you will like very much, seeing your fascination with transitions.
This is one of my favorite performances from them. Miku's guitar tone during the verses is so thick and heavy and the drum intro gives me some serious YYZ vibes. The 16th note phrases on the double kick are so fast and clean, too, gets me every time. I saw a fancam version of this performance from a small show they did a couple of years ago. During the intro when Miku and Misa are going back and forth, Kanami comes up and sits on a monitor to watch and when it's over, Miku turns to her as if to ask, "Did I do it right?" Kanami nods and Miku looks so happy. A reminder that Miku learned to play guitar for this band and a showing of how far she's come. Thanks for another great reaction and analysis video!
@@greylocke100 I thought it was from their show in Hamburg but the video of Play from that performance doesn't have what I was thinking of. Maybe I'm misremembering and it was a different song, but I'll ask around and see what I can find. Check out the channel from Vladimir Chupin for lots of similar stuff, though. That dude has been to a ton of their shows in Europe and has some great videos. Nice guy, too.
For some reason (probably a production decision) the lead guitar was very low in several songs live from 2019 to 2021 and the bass was higher, also in studio albums but less noticeable. That change with Unseen World.
Thanks for the breakdown Tony. This one has the most interesting structure for me. I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention anything about the rim shots but hey there's so much in this piece.
Now I hear and see them. Those were tasty and cool additions. A rim shot (in percussion terms) is not that though. A rim shot is generally when we take the stick and hit the drum head with the tip or the shoulder of the stick connecting both stick and rim/drum simultaneously. That produces a different sound. Quite loud, especially on the snare. Big ol POP in your ears. LOL I would just call those flams on the rims or rim clicks. I have been on gigs where people tell me to play a rim shot but they really mean a cross stick on the snare. Its a pretty loose term. Thanks for pointing it out because I def missed it on the first listen.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts no, thank you. I had no idea about rim clicks. Your explanation makes sense. It literally sounds like clicks to me. Always cool to learn new things.
As a former hack guitarist (4 chord wonder) and halfway decent Alto Saxophonist WANT to hear your opinion on the music. I want to know if you are hearing thing I am not. I want your opinion on the writing, the performance, the mistakes (if any), the parts where you just HAVE to rewind multiple times to hear if what you thought you heard was what you heard. Take your time, rewind when you have to explain your thoughts. Most Band Maid fans aka Maidiacs WANT that little bit extra. So don't feel as if you have to stint or shorten your analysis. We want is ALLLLLLLLLLLL. MAIDIACS UNITE!!! AM I RIGHT?!?!
Correct. I am watching the video for HIS reaction and analysis to the band, not to the song itself (which I've already heard a thousand times and already have an opinion about). if I just wanted to hear the song, I'd go play it for myself......
Hi Tony You seems to like BAND-MAID transitions and so do I. One of my favorite transitions of theirs is on the second verse of the song "Wonderland" live. It would be really cool if you could to a reaction to this song :) Thank you
@@zolitoth2458 What I'd like to see is Tony's reaction to the full electric live version, immediately followed by the acoustic live version with just Saiki & Kanami. But that reaction would be an hour long. Brilliant!!!
You've got a new Band-Maid song now to listen to in your mix. Play makes a great addition. Akane may have missed the high hat once, but she made Saiki laugh with her antics -- you can hear it in Saiki's voice. Miku and Misa were also trying to sabotage Akane earlier on. You can see Miku nod her head towards Akane, telling Misa to go distract her. Yes, it leads straight into Domination.
originally an instrumental however Saiki the lead singer loved it so mush she bullied Miku (rhythm guitar/second vocalist/lyric writer) to give her some lyrics so she could join in

Hey, excellent this review. I love how you explain the music. For my part you can stop and go back as much as you want. What is interesting is the explanation you give below. I've seen this video a thousand times and it's the first time someone reports that yes, it's true, in the end Saiki got Akane to miss a note. Thank you!. PS.: This concert was recorded with ambient sound, not from the console. In 2018 they published a DVD with their concert at Zepp Tokyo. The sound is crystal clear. It's no longer on YT but if you search the Chinese video aggregator Bilibili by Band Maid Play, the first video that comes up is that one. It is worth enjoying. I'll try to leave a link in your discord.
Might I suggest checking out The Warning, a hard rock sister power-trio. Their drummer, Pau, also sings lead vocals on many of their songs. Dust to Dust is a good example. Here's a live version from Whiskey A Go Go ruclips.net/video/jhB5OssZB9U/видео.html
I have seen any number of reactions to this vid, including from pro musicians, including pro drummers. You are the first I know of to catch the high hat fumble. I had no clue. I'm just sitting here with a silly grin on my face. Thank you for sharing your observations!
Well, I hope it didn't come across as a bad thing. Live music is always full of small variations and the journey is about the recovery. They are all high level musicians in this band. Extremely good.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts - No, you explained your position on it very well I think, including how a small mistake like this is just part of the charming reality of a live performance. You clearly appreciate them as much as we do. All good, my friend.
Did anyone ever get Tony the live videos of "Take Me Higher" and/or "Don't You Tell Me" from a few years ago? If he liked the back and forth in this video, he'll love the back and forth in those.
I hope you'll jump back to MV's and do Warning next - (there isnt a great live of it) and it has a fantastic MV! Another classic BM song, one of the favs with fans- probably drumming is the standout - and just how catchy and great a rock song it is.
It's a common complaint that the guitars sound low and muddy from this Line Cube Shibuya show, the other live concert releases from Zepp and Shinkiba studio coast are way better.
It is a mix bag...to me the rhythm section sounds better in LCS and Saiki is much much better. Throws in a lot more ad libs and vocal fry. But Kanami is too low
@@falconsooner The downside with Zepp for me is how much Saiki's voice had deteriorated compared to Shinkiba the previous year. Fortunately her throat surgery later that year has totally restored her voice and then some.
@@SilentChaos15 All the sources that I have read, and there are many, have said that she had the surgery in mid 2018, if you know otherwise can you post a link to the information please.
@@edwardallen4051 sorry. I don't have the sources available for you right away. It's just from their interviews throughout the years. They were touring mid 2018 so surgery then would be unlikely. Saiki had mentioned in a few interviews that she wanted to get the surgery earlier in 2016 but wanted to wait til the end of the tour which was in December. If you look up any of their interviews before 2017 you can hear her voice sounding different. The polyps at the time didn't affect her singing as much as it did her speaking voice. Also, in the commentary track for the Line Cube Shibuya DVD, Saiki mentions during "Choose Me" that it is unique to her, when the band members ask why she says it's the first song she recorded after her surgery along with Daydreaming. The double single was released around March 2017.
Always recommend the 2017 live at Studio Coast version, since the guitars are stronger in the mix. Vocals are a bit better here though. The intro here showcases Miku, which is cool. The 2017 one showcases MISA and Kanami more. It's not on RUclips, but Skipping Buffalo Reactions did it very recently and has the link in his description. RUclips has deleted my comments in the past when I've tried to link to, or even mention, that other site.

Yes, this is the song before Domination. 8 seconds after the last chord for this song is played, Kanami rips into the opening riff of Domination. They play their sets fast, no mucking about between songs.
One thing I would love to see you react to is "The Rain Formerly Known As Purple" by Chris Christodoulou. Its a soundtrack for a game called Risk of Rain 2 and was inspired by Prince's 'Purple Rain'. (Great reaction btw!)

Your reactions are great. Thanks for that. Please check out Band Maid - Real Existence - Official live video. You gonna love that song. Pure hard rock.
Funny thing is, you've only played one song, Blooming, out of my personal top 9 or 10. I think you'd enjoy Moratorium, Puzzle, Warning (the official live is without an audience, so I would suggest the MV), I Can't Live Without You and possibly especially Reincarnation/Rinne. You don't even know about Band-Maiko. :o
Band-maid seem to actually like thier guitar quiter in the mix on purpose- i dunno if thats Kanami's choice but ive heard people say she wants the other instruments to be able to stand out. And I love their bass heavy sound - but I do agree in some songs the guitar should really be at least a LITTLE louder.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Sure would :) Try the daydreaming MV for their amazing beautiful power ballad that has a very musical and clear solo- one of my favs by Kanami. Otherwise the song is a good showcase for Saiki's vocals. Its another style of song by them you've not heard yet- i'd also put 'about us' or the acoustic 'smile' in this catagory - Beautiful songs.
You’re correct about the guitar mix. For this concert it was consistently like that. However if you go to the Zepp Tokyo concert in 2018 the mix is far superior to this concert.
The explanation is that there is so much happening in the background among the bandmembers. @AntMusic has made an excellent analysis of that called "The Torment of Akane": ruclips.net/video/8VFnqV74a_A/видео.html
Remember miku doesn't think she is very good at the guitar and prefers she is below others. Since she was the original lead singer then started learning rhythm guitar when Saiki joined

Wow never heard of them lol but they sound and looks cool lol

I'd recommend...lots more Band-Maid! Start with their complete back catalogue and go from there!
Clever and Imaginative and Awesome. That's BAND-MAID. The CIA of Rock. Peace. 18.3
Best rhythm section in business... PERIOD!
No, Tony. The Band-Maid rule is that whichever Band-Maid song you are listening to at the moment is your favorite Band-Maid song.
Great!
I like your reactions cause you explain it down to every note.
Keep up the good work sir 🤝
Another one of my favorites. Thanks for taking us to school with another great reaction.
Love your insightful observations. Please keep going with Band-Maid, they deserve the attention and the intelligent commentary.
Akane is smiling and having a blast 👏
Volumes have been written about the low volume of Kanami’s guitar on this recording. :)
Fantastic reaction as usual Tony 🤘🏻😎
MISA MISA MISA!
October cannot come fast enough. Love these ladies.
And Japan has tons of amazing all female bands....
Great start for a deep rabbit hole. Warning was my second all woman band, than Lovebites, Voice of Baceproth, ....
@@mikeat2637 Don't forget the punkscene. The icons Shonen Knife, and the younger generation like Otoboke Beaver, Junky58% and so on....
I'm pretty sure I did Blooming. Should be in my band maid Playlist
@@DrumRollTonyReacts OK, I'll check it out!
Which fancam? I would like to see that.
@@ElfInflicted I'm subscribed to Vlad's channel. I'll start going through his uploads again.
What's the timing mark on the video so I can go back and see 🤟
@@DrumRollTonyReactsabout 2:35 in the vid when the "2nd verse starts" during the face off with Saiki and Akane. "High hat fumble".
💯👌
Absolutely!
Correct. I am watching the video for HIS reaction and analysis to the band, not to the song itself (which I've already heard a thousand times and already have an opinion about). if I just wanted to hear the song, I'd go play it for myself......
Hi Tony
You seems to like BAND-MAID transitions and so do I. One of my favorite transitions of theirs is on the second verse of the song "Wonderland" live. It would be really cool if you could to a reaction to this song :)
Thank you
Yes the next song of the set is Domination. Nice catch.
Love your stuff.... Hope 2 C U in Seattle on Oct 12..... If you can find some tickets.
This is from the "World Domination" CD. A great album. Kanami is a great guitar player and the fact that she is gorgeous is only a plus.
Check out Moratorium
I second that! Fantastic song, especially live.
I think your next band maid reaction should be their song called "Puzzle"
It would be good! "Puzzle" would be at least 20 minutes of analysis. I remember Champ giving up!
@@zolitoth2458 What I'd like to see is Tony's reaction to the full electric live version, immediately followed by the acoustic live version with just Saiki & Kanami.
But that reaction would be an hour long. Brilliant!!!
@@785boats Good idea!
@@785boats I'd watch it.
He's gotta find it first. A lot of reviewers have trouble finding Puzzle. That's the puzzle!
Yes, it leads straight into Domination.
originally an instrumental however Saiki the lead singer loved it so mush she bullied Miku (rhythm guitar/second vocalist/lyric writer) to give her some lyrics so she could join in
Dude....Love the channel.....go figure....a reviewer that actually knows what their talking about and can actually communicate it to his audience, Very rare on you tube!!!!! LoL. BUT...I cannot believe you have not reviewed BM Real Existence....this is the best song that this band does....with From Now On and Play a close second. I hope to see this in the future.
I'll try to get to that soon. Thanks!
Dude.....just got back from L.A. last night after seeing Band Maid in Anaheim. As you can guess.....it was fucking amazing. Being a drummer..... what I took away from the live show was Akani beats the shit out her drums !!!!!! You dont really notice that on video. It was great !!!! @@DrumRollTonyReacts
@@TomRussell-cy6ll Glad you had a good time and YES she does! haha epic stuff
Now that I'm almost over with all you reactions to japanese bands I really hope you react to Hanabie (We love sweets, Envy and LCG) and Gacharich Spin (Mindset, I Wish I and Tamashii) soon :D You will love both bands, seriously :D
Here's a live version from Whiskey A Go Go
ruclips.net/video/jhB5OssZB9U/видео.html
I think he's a Maidiac 🎶 Maidiac 🎶 Maidiac 🎶
Another one in the fold 😊
Brand new Band Maid! " Unleash!!!!! " - yes the official title has five exclamation marks ;)
MISA !!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃
@@edwardallen4051 Saiki's vocal surgery was before both shows. She had it done early 2017 Jan/Feb. Shinkiba is November 2017, Zepp was April 2018.
I really love the funk of the live Manners/BLACK HOLE video!
Thanks Tony! 'Puzzle' next? (Please)!
YES!! Studio Coast full version PLUS Zepp Acoustic

My no.1 favorite bandmaid song is between moratorium and domination
I bet your most sentimental song will be the mv Before Yesterday.
You should definitely react to The Dying Song (Time To Sing) by Slipknot. The drums are amazing and right up your alley.
A double-header of "Puzzle" and "Puzzle" acoustic would be awesome. Mind = blown. They are the same song and nothing alike.
Yes, this is the song before Domination. 8 seconds after the last chord for this song is played, Kanami rips into the opening riff of Domination. They play their sets fast, no mucking about between songs.
They take just long enough to get back to their pedal boards and set them for Domination.
One thing I would love to see you react to is "The Rain Formerly Known As Purple" by Chris Christodoulou. Its a soundtrack for a game called Risk of Rain 2 and was inspired by Prince's 'Purple Rain'. (Great reaction btw!)
I wish I could give you extra likes for getting Domination as the next song correct!
Check out CHOOSE ME Live from the same concert, their writing just blows you away....
I just want to give you a heads up that the drummer from jinjer they put out a video of him playing the drums you may want to check it out it's amazing
NEW MV dropping today 8/9 11am est
I prefer this song from their Zepp Tokyo event,
Your reactions are great. Thanks for that. Please check out Band Maid - Real Existence - Official live video. You gonna love that song. Pure hard rock.
You should definitely react to "killer"kira yoshikage's theme from Jojo it's a banger
For me Thrill from 2014 is my 1 love with B-M. They do better songs now but that first love is something special!
try reaction wagakki band-senbonzakura sir
Band-maid seem to actually like thier guitar quiter in the mix on purpose- i dunno if thats Kanami's choice but ive heard people say she wants the other instruments to be able to stand out.
And I love their bass heavy sound - but I do agree in some songs the guitar should really be at least a LITTLE louder.
Yea. That's cool. Solos tho... lol it would be nice if it was a little louder just for those
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Sure would :) Try the daydreaming MV for their amazing beautiful power ballad that has a very musical and clear solo- one of my favs by Kanami. Otherwise the song is a good showcase for Saiki's vocals. Its another style of song by them you've not heard yet- i'd also put 'about us' or the acoustic 'smile' in this catagory - Beautiful songs.
No god live …pls 🤩

You’re correct about the guitar mix. For this concert it was consistently like that. However if you go to the Zepp Tokyo concert in 2018 the mix is far superior to this concert.
Hey, Man. Great reaction video. Can you do a reaction video of WONDERLAND. If you’re interested to hear Band-Maid’s different taste of music. 👍🏻
You should react to WagakkiBand. Thats a unique band outta there. Specially the Homura + Akatsuki no Itto.

8:00 you may have heard a high hat fumble but did you catch Saiki laugh there too?
The explanation is that there is so much happening in the background among the bandmembers. @AntMusic has made an excellent analysis of that called "The Torment of Akane": ruclips.net/video/8VFnqV74a_A/видео.html
