Me too! Massively impressed with Voigtlander especially being a big player yet bringing out multiple lens options for different users. Well done Voigtlander!

I am using lately the Canon Rangefinders as well. Almost as good as the Leica’s, but cheaper and as Matt mentioned also with frames for 35, 85/100 and 135. And no fiddling around to get the film inside. Love them!
This is amazing! I have always had an appreciation for Cosina, going back to the early 1980's when they made K mount cameras and lenses at very good price points. And good to see other manufacturers supporting LTM too. I love that we are still using standards, like M39, M42 that go right back to the early history of photography (well at least 35mm photography). It is even better that manufacturers continue to innovate using these standards, and not everyone goes down the instant redundancy, let's create yet another mount this year, route. I appreciate use of modern technology and it enables me to do do things I couldn't dream of 50 years ago, but there is something very reassuring that after almost 100 years, standards like LTM are valid, and flourishing. And not only the standards, the actual equipment from that era is still valid. Some things are just 'right'! Hmm, the choice between M and LTM? Native M makes sense if you only have M cameras, given the extended focus range etc., but the flexibility of LTM (and M adapters) is very attractive, and there are so many good LTM cameras at very reasonable prices.
Voightlander keeps absolutely knocking it out of the park with F mount lenses, so much so that I finally moved from Canon systems to Nikon for film, it’s just too hard to pass up.
Yes! Put a new F mount lens on any old Nikon film body and you get stunning results. I have most of those lenses. My fav is probably the 90 APO! (See those videos)
@@chilecayenne the OG Ultron 40mm f2, it’s just one of my favorite focal lengths other than 20 through 28 and it’s also a classy looking lenses. But the newer 58mm 1.4 Nokton is superb. A little too tight for my usually wider photography preference but it makes an amazing more open portrait lens, and it’s very fast at 1.4. Probably next up for me would be buying the Color-Heliar 75mm or APO-Lanthar 90mm. Also looking into adapting the mounts for a Leica R lens to my F2, we’ll see though since that’s more involved. Amazing stuff from Voightlander though. If you’re pressed for cash the main F family AI-S especially are amazing lens. I still use my standard AI 28mm f3.5 all the time.
The Fed2 is wild. I have a dozen of them, and each one is radically different to the next. Like one where the film sprocket holes are fully in the frame. Curtain speeds are quite variable too. They break often, in different ways, but can be easily fixed in the field with just a small screwdriver.
You’ve given me motivation to finally push the button on a Leica III which I have always desired but never owned. They are even smaller than my beautiful mid 70s Pentax MX which is the smallest SLR ever made and so packable for travel (but rangefinder is a totally different prospect of course)
I think you'll love them! See my blogs and other videos on which version you might like the most. Any are great for zone focusing, later ones better for precision.

While my M3DS is away for CLA, I have been eyeing for a IIIf for awhile. Finally bought a Zorki 4k over the weekend and it is currently in transit from Ukraine. As someone who travel for work a lot, I always enjoy packing small camera, hence why my Mamiya SIX is always with me on trips; packing an additional SLR film body is just a bit too much, so maybe this is my calling for a Leica III finally!
I sent a thoughtful and lengthy email to Brightin Star imploring them to consider at least a short run of the Slim 28 2.8 in LTM. They said they would present the suggestion to management. Fun! 🙂
Nice, Voigtlander taking actual rangefinder users into account with the different min focus distances, shows their level of passion. Also, please tell LLL to make 35mm 8 elements with goggles for M3 please and they can put a smiley for me on their web page :)

They did have a couple Ltd edition 50 f3.5 and 50 f2 Heliar lenses LTM which are rare but stellar- I agree a smaller f1.5 LTM Nokton would be the go to lens.

I heard some will work, but I don't know how to know which will and which won't work....can you help? Thanks in advance, CC
Thanks and correct. Wider lenses tend to be OK from my experience. Fast 50s can mis-focus such as a 50mm f1.5. Some work when you'd expect them not to so sometimes just try to see if your camera-lens combo is compatible.
Great to see you so excited hehehe. Great video, beautiful samples and well explained. You're on a roll, my friend. Enjoyed watching it and thanks for sharing
Great news indeed! I will probably put one of the 28mm options on my IIIf, the 5,6/28 mm is really tempting as I can also use it on the M as an alternative to the modern Biogon 2,8/28 mm.
There is a BIG point missing, none of these cameras offer what an M, especially an M6 can offer. They are fine for one’s budget, no doubt, if you have all the time in the world and if you do not need clear framing and focusing. They are very affordable but less convenient, comfortable, and efficient tools. Let us not fool ourselves. Although I have used Zorkis, Towers, Nikon Ss, Leica IIIs, … for fun, when it comes to serious work, especially street photography and photojournalism, for me, nothing beats my 34-year-of use M6. And I bet I am far, very far from being an exception.
A combined range/viewfinder with parallax-compensating bright frames is indeed a wonderful thing for comfortable, efficient street photography and photojournalism... as any Canon 7-series or Nikon SP owner would agree. Speaking of "having all the time in the world," it's odd that Leica (unlike Canon) was able to create a near-perfect range/viewfinder but never quite figured out how to make a hinged backdoor, forcing you to play "where do I put the %$#@ baseplate" whenever you need to reload it. Trust me, once you've tasted a Leica baseplate, you can never un-taste it...
Hi Matt, I see you recommending the LLL 35mm f2.0 several times. I wonder if you would recommend this lens over the Voigtlander 35mm f2.0. At least in Europe it seems that the Voigtlander is cheaper. I am an R2 and R3A user who hopes to acquire a digital Leica M in the future.
Hi! I own both. The LLL probably has more character (as to be expected based on the 8E Summicron), the UItron is sharper and fine in it's own right. Yes Voigtlander is cheaper. I will do more videos on the LLL but I think you'd be happy with the Ultron.
If only there was some affordable 50mm lenses for Contax/Kiev cameras with better coatings or so. I was quite disappointed of my copy of Jupiter-8 lens on a Kiev-4a, when I had to shoot it wide open in low light, image are really soft and backlight is a huge issue even at f/8. There's Helios-103, but I don't like the bokeh, it's quite busy.
It sounds like you've not yet found the Zeiss Sonnar lenses (not J8 clones). See my video Zeiss vs Leica. Zeiss kicks butt. I even use my Sonnar on my Leicas it's that good at f2.
Canon in screw mount may benefit! Reality is loading a modern film cartridge into one! It is a problem! Very hard to load, need a special cut leader. The Canon have hinged backs! Some leica early screw mount need washers to place film in line with full shutter! If folk have trouble loading an M, (I don't) don't go near those early models..
I like ltm cameras but not only Leica iii. Canon vi or p are very pleasant to use and Bessa R is probably the easier to use. With a 35mm a 25mm and a 15mm you can play a lot. I also do prefer voigtlander lenses to Leica one due to their prices.
I am all for more new screwmount lenses (and I don't need to buy a moth-eaten old Barnack to use them when I've got a Canon P, VI-T, and 7s!) But 28/35/40 isn't much of a range, is it? I'll get more excited when there’s a 21 and/or 24 (and yes, viewfinders for them!) On the longer end, I realize that tele lenses don't make much sense on most of these cameras (unless they have a built-in 1.5x magnifier like my VI-T) but how about a cool little collapsible 65 or 75?
Thanks James, yes we think alike. I asked them for new viewfinders and a compact 50 LTM :) ..for 21mm and 25mm we have the Skopars from 20 years ago which are fine to use.
The biggest ding against the TTartisan 28mm 5.6 is lens flare. Virtually every video on this lens calls out this problem. What is your experience? (Yes, it looks exactly like the $3000 Leica for a fraction of the cost.)
Matt an update on my Q3 order I canceled my Q3 order after waiting for 2 months and getting no info on it being delivered this year. I just ordered a mint pre owned Fujifilm H2. I will get 2 lenses, the pancake f2 18mm and the Sigma f1.4 30mm. the pancake is the same framing as the Q3 and has AF. The Sigma is a 45mm equivalent FOV. The H2 has 40mp, and 7 IBIS stops IS. The EVF is a 5.7mp resolution and 0.8 magnification so it will be easy to judge if subject is in focus. The camera is weather sealed, small and has a battery that is rated for 600 shots. It takes both CFb and SD II cards. Can do 15fps with mechanical shutter and x-sync at 1/250 sec. It doesn't have a separate ISO dial but I want to set auto ISO range from ISO 125 to 6400 which it is really good and low noise. and with IBIS this will be great. It will cost me one third of what the Q3 would have cost me. Next year when the Canon R1 comes out I will likely get on and since I have the F2 28-70 Canon L zoom I will have my "one Lens only" super camera.
Sorry to hear about your Q3. I know a few people that have them already but they might have good connections with their local Leica stores. Enjoy your new camera!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thank you, I do have the original Q so there is that. I think the 60mp and changing the image via cropping is not as ideal as having a fast F2 zoom and changing the DOF and compression via the focal length, I don't think given the Z8 being priced at $4000 and being so good will allow Canon to charge more than the $6000 the Q3 costs I believe the R1 will be the best camera yet.
Thanks, yes note I didn't say LTM is better at everything. For street and zone focusing I much prefer LTM for the size. For portraits I use my M3 (mostly)
I can only describe my experience shooting with a leica III as randomly painfull - having to compose on a tiny viewfinder and than to focus on another tiny viewfinder (with a different focal distance) is ludicrous for me (I know it was revolutionary almost 100 years ago, but even in the 50's they got the recipe right with the M3). If you want to shoot film on a reasonable priced camera - you have a plethora to chose from with great lenses (at least as good as Voigtlander and the Artisans ...) just look at Canon, Olympus and Nikon old cameras . Anyway , these days the main cost of film photography is film itself (+ developing, scanning/printing )
I am not the target audience for these, but I do appreciate the additional competition, especially for the Leica mounts. I do like the new Voightlander lens, but I just want a Zeiss 50mm f/4 for my Hasselblad 503CX.
Thanks for checking out the video. The Zeiss 50/4 is excellent. I have the CF version + 60/80/100/120/150 for my 500s/501c - I just need to use them now. (Always pick up the 35mm cameras first!)
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom pleasure! I am new to photography, so just trying and learning as I go. How amazing, you have almost all the lenses in the Hasselblad v-system range. How great! I only bought my 503CX a month ago from Japan. It is in pristine condition. I shall return to the same seller for the 50mm f/4, as the service was good and seamless. I see the appeal of picking up a Leica or other 35mm camera: They are generally smaller and lighter. And these are special requirements for you Matt. In contrast to me, I have no such concern. I just wanted something solid to learn on, mechanical and in square format.
Thanks, I tried to use blankets to reduce the empty room sound but still need improving. It’s work in progress. I could here a ‘hiss’ in the background I need to find software to remove next
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I’m not sure what mic you are using or how far away from you it is, but that can make a difference. Getting a directional mic like a shotgun mic on your camera, or booming it overhead just out of your shot and pointing it angled towards your your face/mouth, or using a lavalier mic on your shirt chest area are good places to start. And yes your room is quite reverberant, but I’m just hearing a lot of room and not a lot of level directly from you… that’s where the directional mic can help. Best!
@@Bobsmithabc thank you. I’m currently using rode wireless go II that replaced 1s that replaced podcast mic that replaced boomed rode micro shotgun. Lav mic died so using just RWG2 on collar (just out of shot). Yes I’ll experiment and see what’s works less badly in the new place I’m now in. (Much smaller room)
Haha i've been tagged Mr Voigtlander since my "selling Leica" video. Any company that makes great optics for my favourite cameras is awesome for me. I tend to use Leica cameras mostly and a range of lenses (but mostly Voigtlander and Leica)
Last leica IIIG was 1957? They are really old! If service avaialble, but needed parts are? Leica Canada in Kinderman had the bits and pieces, but Gerry now retired! I think too late and not of any use! Need extra viewfinders.. I'm sorry but that period of cameras is really done! Even my M3 1967, is long in tooth.. Maybe some folks happy! Me, no concern anyway.
I think it depends where you live. I use a fully serviced 1931 Standard so 1959s cameras are modern to me! :) Leicas can usually be repaired by skilled repairmen. I’ve never heard of them not..except M6 with broken meter which can’t be fixed*
Ha thanks. If you look more carefully the cameras I use are all Leica (whether 1931 or modern digital) but yes other brands are starting to make more lenses for the Leica system which is great. This channel covers everything Leica related (rather than being limited to the brand)

Thanks Bruno, yes M cameras give you the faster film loading, light meter for anyone that uses them, and the combined VF RF is faster for focusing. Note I didn't say that Leica iii cameras are better for everything. There is a reason I still own my M2/3SS/3DS/M4Ps and M6 (I use the M6 the least by far*), M3 is king for me, M2 for 35mm and M4P for 28mm/75mm if I use those. M6 does the same as my M4P so I just use the M4P. Totally agree with you, for say client work M cameras still win. This video was more aimed at everyone that can't afford a new M6.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yes I understand Matt. On the other hand let us not forget facts. At some point I could have acquired my first M6 from a dear friend and did not to end up with an M2 with a light leak (cheaper) and finally get an M6. That step cost me more than if I had stuck with my first choice. Quality pays off in the long run ;0)

Thanks (I replied on the other thread)
Haha thanks James (baseplate*)
@@jlwilliams good point!
I will do more videos on the LLL but I think you'd be happy with the Ultron.
just purchased the 28mm funleader ms optics clone , I was hoping you would of done a review by now
Nice! Not yet. I know the original and I have their 18mm
Wow, ltm, that is amazing. 😊
Yes! That's why I had to make a video :)
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I can imagine, thanks for uploading 😊👍Have a nice day!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom it will be really hard to find in Russia and the price will be out of my reach most likely ;c
Yes the Canon RF cameras will all be great with these lenses
I like ltm cameras but not only Leica iii. Canon vi or p are very pleasant to use and Bessa R is probably the easier to use. With a 35mm a 25mm and a 15mm you can play a lot. I also do prefer voigtlander lenses to Leica one due to their prices.
Thanks, yes there are lots of nice LTM cameras to chose from
I am not buying any more lenses no matter what you say. I hope. ;o) Another great thorough and well-researched presentation. Thanks, I think. LOL
Haha thanks Sandy :)
Awesome. I have the 40mm Helier. Show our appreciation by purchasing some.
Great! I was going to buy a black copy for my black 1931 Leica but i'll wait to see if I prefer the new 28mm Skopar as my walkabout lens
I have 25mm snapshot also. Canon 7, P also a 3F.
See my full video or detailed blog post at MrLeica.com . I like it but it can flare. See the video tonight, it gets a mention!
Hey Matt. Do you plan to review the Voigtländer Nokton 55mm F/1.2 SLII-S Nikon Ai-S soon? Cheers
Interesting that you ask ;) ;) The test photos are done I just need to work through the US videos first before I can make the video. Stay tuned!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Wow! So cool 😀 I am super curious to find out if this is sharper at F1.4 than the Voigtlander 58mm F1.4
I use Panasonic and Fuji cameras with voigtlander lenses
Great! yes everyone can benefit from these small lenses, not just film users.
Matt an update on my Q3 order
I canceled my Q3 order after waiting for 2 months and getting no info on it being delivered this year.
The EVF is a 5.7mp resolution and 0.8 magnification so it will be easy to judge
if subject is in focus.
Next year when the Canon R1 comes out I will likely get on and since I have the F2 28-70 Canon L zoom I will have my
"one Lens only" super camera.
Sorry to hear about your Q3. I know a few people that have them already but they might have good connections with their local Leica stores. Enjoy your new camera!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thank you, I do have the original Q so there is that. I think the 60mp and changing
the image via cropping is not as ideal as having a fast F2 zoom and changing the DOF and compression via
the focal length, I don't think given the Z8 being priced at $4000 and being so good will allow Canon to charge
more than the $6000 the Q3 costs I believe the R1 will be the best camera yet.
I decided to get the 18mm f1.4 instead of the pancake after watching youtube reviews
Cute but... there is a reason Leica moved on from LTM to M. M is sooo much better, easier, quicker and more fun to use.
Thanks, yes note I didn't say LTM is better at everything. For street and zone focusing I much prefer LTM for the size. For portraits I use my M3 (mostly)
It’s a better design.. but the point is that there’s so many wonderful LTM cameras starving for new lenses.
All this from Mr. Voigtlander ??
Mr Voigtlander relies on Leica cameras so that’s the connection
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom 🤔 I don’t know 🤷♂️ There’s something fishy going on here.
Thanks. I usually scale focus as mentioned and just love the simplicity. I prefer to my M6 in good light
That new 28mm 2.8 Type II looks hot, but only in M mount...
YES! I thought the same. Reminds me of Nikon F Skopar lenses (I use those too). That flatter (sexy) look! and to 0.5m
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I have thought about pairing the new 28 type 1 with the 40/2.8 heliar, but I already have the 28/2 & 35/2 Ultron II's.
I’ll have to check it out. I have a Leica iiif $200 eBay.
Nice! Expect to need to pay for a CLA but if it's a clean copy then great!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Already did that. New shutters and CLA’d. Works great!
I'd rather use a Canon L1 or Canon P for LTM
Yes any LTM camera is fine, all of these will benefit from these new lenses.
I have the Canon IVsb, the first camera that supported a synchronized electronic flash.
Who still uses Leica M in 2023? Time to switch to Leica III
😂 Love that! Leica iii are too cheap (for Leica) to not try!
Great channel, but please do something about your audio.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yes I’d assume that RWG2 needs to be closer to you like a Lav mic than trying to boom it. Keep up the great content!
@@Bobsmithabc thanks (sorry I mean it’s on my T-shirt) ..I’ll work it out. Many thanks!
So it's 'Mr Voigtländer' now... or maybe 'Mr Bessa'
😊
Thanks!
A screw mount 28mm Skopar? Shut up and take my money!
Right!! I've already said they can have my wallet for when it starts shipping :)
I think you should change your RUclips name to mr Voigtlander , as the topic is not relevant anymore
Ha thanks. If you look more carefully the cameras I use are all Leica (whether 1931 or modern digital) but yes other brands are starting to make more lenses for the Leica system which is great. This channel covers everything Leica related (rather than being limited to the brand)
Lenses=crack
haha yes! They keep me smiling in every video!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yeah but you only need one more..
That‘s why I sometimes shoot more with my IIIg or Zorki 1 with good Lenses. The compact Size is a great feeling in my Hand👏📷🍀
Yes! Good lenses on these make for great photos
I second that. 👍
