When Leslie Nielsen passed, ESPN published an obituary for the legendary umpire/opera singer, Enrico Pallazzo. It was surprisingly heartwarming and I think Leslie Nielsen would have loved it.

They used to harvest pistachio nuts by waiting for them fall off the tree and gathering them off the ground. This made the shells all stained and awful looking so they would stain them a bright red - a dye that easily wears off. Since then, they have devised a mechanical way to harvest them, a machine that grabs the trunk and shakes it so all the nuts fall off at once. And since, they are sold unstained, in their natural soft tan-brown color. (Most younger people are so far removed from the old style of pistachio nuts, they don't get the joke.)

The show _Police Squad_ might be even more up your alley. Same characters (though Ed and Nordberg are played by different actors), same writers (so same humor), but smaller doses, and the jokes are more _Airplane!_ rapid fire pace. Great celebrity guest stars, too.
This movie has some meta humor about the show. For instance, everything in Frank’s fridge is expired, and his freezer isn’t defrosted because _Police Squad_ ended in 1982, so he hadn’t been back to his apartment again until 1988.

31:03 ---- Sadly, Leslie is no longer with us.. From the stories that i've heard over the years.. He was not only a wonderful actor, but also had that same kind of humor in real life... He was always very good to his fans too...

The plot of the hypnotic triggered assassins was lifted directly from a Charles Bronson film called 'Telefon', about a Soviet spy who had to stop a bunch of similarly programmed people from starting a war when their trigger mechanism fell into the wrong hands.

Leslie Nielsen was 62 when this movie was made, which sounds old, but is about the same age Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are now. He was still in great shape, an avid golfer, though his hair turned white in his 40s which made him appear older. Also interesting: He was legally deaf from childhood and used hearing aids except on camera.

FYI, the player who tried to assassinate the Queen was an actual Major League player. Reggie Jackson is a Hall of Famer who got the name "Mr. October" for his World Series heroics . . . and he was on five world championship teams in his career.

p.s. Hannah absolutely nailed that narration opener, much less missed her true calling...!

The bad guy, Ludwig was played by actor Ricardo Montalban, who was born in Mexico. He's most well know for playing Mr. Rourke, the white tuxedo wearing host of the comedy/drama show Fantasy Island from 1977-1984. His other most famous role is Khan from both the classic Star Trek episode Space Seed, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
The baseball player who was turned into an assassin was played by actual baseball legend Reggie Jackson. I never watched baseball either, but he was famous enough that I knew who he was.
Not only are there two other movies in this series, but as this movie's name suggests, this was based on a short-lived TV show called Police Squad! which also starred Leslie Nielsen. There's only six episodes and a lot of the jokes were recycled into the movies, but it's still worth watching. Also, the movie Wrongfully Accused, which is a spoof of The Fugitive (you should watch that first) is the same kind of comedy, also stars Leslie Nielsen, and almost feels like it could have been one of the Naked Gun films.

I watched this 2 days ago, but randomly, I was thinking what Hannah said about the actor. My husband is 14 years older than me. I didn't care for him when he asked me out gracefully year after year at work. We hung out a few times, and I was shocked to know in my gut..."oh my gosh...I think this is my husband". He always treated me like I was his wife even before we went out. He would bring me coffee, if family members came by he would offer and get them drinks from a coffee place not some office coffe or tea, and when we did start to hang out he would always open the door for me. I never had a man open the door for me, but I randomly felt like he should and so did he. He had never done that before when he had gone on dates. We just instantly knew. I would say things like "my husband and I are going to go to church together..." and he would say "of course I am". I was speaking about my "future husband". I was saying anything to scare him off and know what I was going to have from my husband and he would say it back to me. I asked him, "Are you going to have any more kids?" He had one preteen...and he said,"Are you?" I said 'yes,3", and he said,"Then me too. " I didn't trust him bc I didn't know him besides the office. I fell in love seeing he would be nice to everyone, so that means he is not just faking his kindness by just maybe temporarily doing it with me... I love my husband! Gorgeous 6ft plus, strong, and kind! I didn't know a kind man could be so gorgeous! ...I totally get it, Hannah!
