I just have done a second bmw recall for the egr cooler. However I have never ever had a single issue with the car for 3 years of ownership. f30 330d 2016 here now around 90k on the clock. My n47 DPF regenerate even i drive with 50km/h with 2000 rpm every 300 km drove in the town , the engine exhaust will get to 500-600 c because of the glow plugs(usualy engine exhaiust has 200-300c) so regeneration is possible but you need to regulary check the glow plug & relay system and EGR system ,the EGR will close at DPF regeneration ,if you have bad relay there will be no light in the dashboard so check the car from time to time with an OBD tester . good luck !!
Yes you will, sadly. I had my EGR replaced in July 2020 under recall. Took car (640D2016) for service at main stealer July 2021. They rang up, had to replace EGR *valve*. My f10 m550d, which had driven 140,000 km, also had a fatal failure of the crankshaft bearings. BMW durability is very poor. ,The engine oil was also changed at less than 10k km, and the driving was normal.

So many people worry about that timing chain. Im always change every 6000 miles oil and oil, cabin, fuel filters! This is the way you keep good condition your timing chain! Glad I watched this as I was looking at an e90 330d with the n57, sod that I'm sticking with the old ironside m57 and I will be stripping all that eco-shit off it so it remains as reliable as my trusty but rusty old e46 was. DPF, Cat, EGR and flaps are all going, manifold deep cleaned finished with a high quality map then it will run as a big six diesel should. Greta can kiss sooty my twins! In all seriousness my e46 30d 204 had all it's greens removed (granted it was a non dpf euro 4) however it ran beautifully with smoke levels FAR lower than before removing them, that said I over-serviced that car religiously with the best parts and oil every 5k and it rewarded me with many years flawless and more importantly near smokeless service. Apart from Mercs OM606 the M57 without all that Euro-mission crap added to it has to be one of the greatest diesel engines ever made.

BMW has confirmed it is looking into a ‘technical issue’ with its high performance police patrol cars and the way traffic officers drive them during pursuits. The car manufacturer responded after The Northern Echo exclusively revealed officers in Durham Constabulary have been instructed not to drive the German-made cars over the speed limit. BMWs are used in road policing It is understood the force’s fleet of around 30 vehicles is predominantly involved in road policing around the county. Read more: Durham police told NOT to chase criminals due to 'problems' with their BMWs But there have been reports across the country of BMWs fitted with an N57 engine bursting into flames if they go over 90mph. A whistle-blower with Durham Constabulary said officers were frustrated they had been told not take part in high-speed chases due to safety concerns. The serving officer said a ‘no pursuit’ policy was in place. What has BMW said? A spokesman for BMW said: “We have been working with the police for some time on a technical matter linked to a small number of special high-performance vehicles. “This issue is associated with the particular way in which the police operate these high-performance vehicles. “This unique usage profile puts extra strain on some components and therefore BMW has specified a special servicing programme for these vehicles.” 'No need for action on any civilian vehicles' The spokesman said the problem was not an issue for BWM owners with private motor vehicles. He said: “There is no need for action on any civilian vehicles. "This has been a dynamic and developing situation and we continue to work closely with the police.” Background to BMW's statement - and the implications for policing The police whistle-blower shared documents from senior officers at Durham Police ordering traffic and firearms officers not to exceed the speed limit in affected BMW vehicles unless there is an immediate threat to life. would you recommend a b48 (30i) over an n57 (30d) engine bmw when they're priced equally (used)?
Hey Buddy, considering buying a X4 30d M sport 2014 plate 80K miles... is this one to avoid for timing chain issues etc? Paranoid now! What would you say?
Hi sir,
I do own an f36 435d and i’m wondering what’s the best oil i should use for it ? Thank you sir
Do the timing chain issues only plague the N57D30 A and B or does it also impact the O and T in the later F15 X5?
Do you have any answer ?
I also want to know this
Is the timing chain issue still as common on 2016 model 530d?
Hey mate, at what mileage should i be worried about the timing chain? I'm thinking about buying a 2012 BMW X3 30d (n57) 255hp with 130.000 miles. Can I at least get another 20.000 miles out of it before worrying about the timing chain?
I've just bought one and Coronavirus just moved down my list of concerns.
@@Daniel_Anthony loll
Did you buy it?
Apparently BP ultimate has more Cetane than V power Diesel.. lot of the guys on forums swear by it. Personally i use Vpower Diesel as the car seems to like it and is not extortionally priced like BP Ultimate is.. What are your thoughts ?
Hi,my timing chain on 325D N57 was changed when car had 190k kms,car now has 305k kms.Oil changes every 12k kms,do you think timing chain should be replaced again soon?
Is it still alive?
I thought only the early N57’s had timing chain issues from some forum stuff I saw. Do you now if the later ones (2013 onwards) improved the chain reliability?
They did update it mate like the N47 BUT they still had issues aswell the guides were still crap and even up till 2014 people were still having problems
Don’t trust them forum guys sorry to tell you there not experts like me there your average Kwik fit parts fitter guys
Who don’t know there arse from there elbow
That’s why they speak on a forum and don’t have a channel !!! If they knew as much as they stated I’m sure they would be here running a bmw channel
Thanks Dean :) certainly accept whatever you are saying. I heard the N47 vibration worsened the issue of the guides failing vs the N57 is that true?
No mate it’s not the N47 doesn’t really rattle that much mate that’s what they was saying which was causing the bolts to go lose on the guides but it’s all crap it’s the guide itself if they actually thought that mate then it wouldn’t of happened on the N57 fall stop
But it did and N57 doesn’t rattle so it’s all crap mate the guides were faulty and still are typical Chinese crap bmw tried to use here like they do in the USA and failed thank god for the quality control procedure and our laws or we will be like the USA and the issues there having with the N63 with nobody to do anything they just have to deal with having a blown engine and nobody gives a crap
@@BMWDoctor Hi man, thanks for all the info you're putting out there.
I'd love to have one of the problems you mentioned in the video. I bought a used 2013 530d from another city and the engine seized the same day on my way home.
At first I though the owned was hiding something but it was weird the engine was so smooth and silent and ran like a clock. after inspection it was a rod bearings failure.
I gathered some money and bought another engine 2 weeks ago. It was installed 2 days ago and it seized too yesterday with because of main bearing failure...... FUCK ME.
Can you please tell me why the bearings fail out of the blue like this?
did they not update the chain guides in 2011 april? They still chocolate?
I found that info on differentcarreviews on youtube
2 years ago my timing change on my 2010 525d n57 broke! Cost me big money to remedy.
My advise is get timing chain changed if you buy a used n57.
Dont buy diesel unless you'll be doing motorway driving at least once a week
So you wouldn't recommend I buy a 150k miler with fsh then?
Egr and dpf delete on diesels and problems solved 👍 Petrol engines has seriously big problems with Vanos and oil consumption. So diesel is more of less thing to think when you own it
How you passing emissions test at MOT?
If you do oil changes every 8000km or 5000mi you will avoid a lot of trouble.
I don't do this in Russia, how is it even possible in UK in any mean? I want to keep my engine stock and clean, without any black smoke etc.
This gentleman is a god of BMW.
Wish i saw this before i got my E93 325D
Hello Bmw doctor i am from Kosovo and i have a Mini cooper S R53 2004 but i have a problem with remote key dont lock and unlock the door with remote i test Hold the unlock button and press the Mini logo 3 times, then release the unlock button. If you have additional keys you'd like to program at this time, repeat step 3 within 30 seconds from the original key programming. Turn on the ignition to complete the process. But dosent work i change the battery but again dosent work ..! Please can you help me to solved this problem i watch your videos and you are a realy doctor pleas help
Hi Dean, thanks for your brilliant content. Im looking at a 94k Miles N57 330d that has had oil changes at these intervals: 13k, 23k, 45k, 63k, 82k, 89k. Would you stay away from this with the timing chain issues etc?
>10k mi between oil changes! 🤯
Apart from Mercs OM606 the M57 without all that Euro-mission crap added to it has to be one of the greatest diesel engines ever made.
sounds good, can it be done diy?
Est la pompe à huile ?
I rang Bmw Nottingham they said there not doing any egr recalls until there’s a problem now !
Hi dean My BMW E61 N47 Sounds like air is escaping from somewhere When I accelerate around 1500-2000Rpm any idea what could cause this?
Turbo charge pipe mate common problem it comes off the turbo under ALOT check it it connects on to the air box make sure it ain’t flapping where it goes back to the turbo
It makes a whistling noise? Mine started doing that recently.
Whistling is turbo veins moving causing the whistle your turbo is what we call as technically KNACKERED time for new turbo
@@BMWDoctor Oh wow.. i didn't want to hear that. Thanks for the reply.
Bryan Chance yes friend sorry I’m the bearer of bad news !! I always am on here
Useful information in the video but it's hard to understand this gentleman's accent -- especially with the unnecessary background music.
A couple of b47's here in sweden have had their timing chains fail.
Great video! I have 435d with 200k kilometers. Oli service every 30k as ASO recommends. Should I be worried about timing chain? Should I replace it?
B57 is a great engine no issues with timing chain change oil every 10k I would suggest DO NOT CHANGE AT 30k that will damage your chain
@@BMWDoctorI think my engine is N57 not B57... I have 313 horse power and two turbines. I have just bought this car with 200k kilometers. Former owner was changing oil as ASO recommendes - every 30k. Now I will be changing every 10k but im not sure what is The conditon of the timing chain after this 200k.. I dont hear any noise. What do You think?
Do ont worry n57s have no timing chain issue
Change your oil every 10kkm
Very informative video. I have a 2016 535d with 39000 miles . I run only on Vpower fuel and change oil castrol edge 5 30 every 5k rather change the oil myself and hopefully steer clear of timing change problems . I have to new Turbos fitted as the previous owner didn't let the engine tick over after a motor way run that was costly £3500
which engine is best for x3 f25 n57, n55 or n52?
F25 X3 xDrive35i with the N55.
Hey , just crashed my 520d F10 :( , now I am thinking of buying an 530d F10 N57 , Isent the thiming chain problem solved after 2011 ??? Atleast on the n47 it is...
dpf regen burns soot not ash.. ash stays in dpf util full .. then ur done mate.. buy new or remove og clean blast.. eitherway petrol is better for city drivin
Yep. I have a 2017 X5 xDrive35i with the N55 gas motor and I use it both for highway and city driving.
Good video Dean petrol all the way for me mate.
Petrol for me too but I have my diesels also that I love as petrol doesn’t always do it for me
and what about rod bearings ? 😅

N57 timing chain problems? That is 1 issue i never imagined to be ... hmm
What’s wrong with subtitles
My n57 DOES have adblue!
DPF is a problem on a lot of makes as I understand. 👍
That’s correct kevin it is indeed that’s why a lot of people remove it but now they can’t
Al this gloor en doom i have 535d f11 stage 2 egr delete dpf delete zf8 tune 406hp 745nm 212k people delete this stuff because its better for the engine this car cost money to properly maintenance but after that the n57 is e robuust monster if you dont whant to put the money in don't buy this car
Timing chain is very comon problem on n47/57

BMW has confirmed it is looking into a ‘technical issue’ with its high performance police patrol cars and the way traffic officers drive them during pursuits.
The car manufacturer responded after The Northern Echo exclusively revealed officers in Durham Constabulary have been instructed not to drive the German-made cars over the speed limit.
BMWs are used in road policing
It is understood the force’s fleet of around 30 vehicles is predominantly involved in road policing around the county.

But there have been reports across the country of BMWs fitted with an N57 engine bursting into flames if they go over 90mph.
“This unique usage profile puts extra strain on some components and therefore BMW has specified a special servicing programme for these vehicles.”
'No need for action on any civilian vehicles'
The spokesman said the problem was not an issue for BWM owners with private motor vehicles.
He said: “There is no need for action on any civilian vehicles.
"This has been a dynamic and developing situation and we continue to work closely with the police.”
Background to BMW's statement - and the implications for policing
The police whistle-blower shared documents from senior officers at Durham Police ordering traffic and firearms officers not to exceed the speed limit in affected BMW vehicles unless there is an immediate threat to life.

Durham Constabulary confirmed a review of its vehicles is underway.
Meanwhile North Durham MP Kevan Jones described the situation as ‘astonishing.’
The directive applies to forces across the country and was implemented after PC Nick Dumphreys died when a BMW police vehicle caught fire during a 999 call in Cumbria in 2020.

The whistle-blower said: “The BMWs have an issue where the engines are deemed no longer fit for purpose.
“It’s just frustrating for the cops on the ground.”

hahahah ford test they're cars on supermarket fuel....video was nice and informative until here.
If you buy a ford, everything will break around 80k miles, leaving it good for the scrapper. Especially those 5 cylinder diesels that like to crack the cylinder liners...
