Hypr has absolutely NOT got their ducks in a row. I have sent 10 plus unanswered emails trying to get my Hall effect controller back from repair that I sent off to TEN MONTHS AGO!!!
Yikes. That is NOT good to hear. I was hoping this far down the road they would have implemented some of the changes on that list I shared from the company.
@ my hex ultimate that I ordered 4 years ago based on your reviews has been working like a champ and just recently the click triggers started to not register every input. I would 10000% order from hex again, shipping was fast and the product was very good quality.
HYPR is terrible. I placed an order and shortly after I emailed and asked to cancel order (within a day). It was not a custom and hadn’t even started the build process. Told me I couldn’t cancel and that I would have to start a return once I got it and pay a restock fee. 3 weeks later controller came and started return process with a restock fee which is bullshit. Send controller back, 3 months later still no refund with a lot of back and forth with support via email. Had to start a dispute with my Apple Card and with all the emails and chat logs I had proof of, Apple issued me the credit. HYPR is the worst!!
I got a grey Phantom Hall Effect version from the kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately after only a few sessions with the trigger stops engaged, the right trigger made a concerning click. It still works but feels loose, pulls to one side and isn’t as smooth (this is a similar issue I had with a Razer Raiju Ultimate). I messaged Hex but they requested a lot of video requirements of the issue, which I haven’t gotten round to. Been using a standard dualsense with replacement guilkit tmr sticks and ExtremeRate Rise kit since. Upgraded to 30th Anniversary Edge this week. Never planned to get an Edge when I backed the Phantom but that nostalgia kicked in with the press release. Keep up the good work Captain.
As soon as I watched your original vid on the phantom, I instantly jumped on kickstarter to preorder one. Glad I upgraded to the Hall effect option. Not gonna lie, this is my favorite controller I’ve ever used. I hope they add more color options soon. Great review!
Glad to hear someone’s experience that ordered it off Kickstarter. Which color way did you get? It’s definitely one of my favorite PlayStation controllers.
there was a little scare for a week after the launch with a lack of comms from hex but they cleared up any confusion pretty quickly and kept everyone up to date with status. Regularly. Customer service is great with those folks. It was pretty cool of hex to include challenge coins in the bundles they sent out to the backers. I ended up going with the blue. I like it enough, but now I need that white one lol. It just looks too clean.
Man, the magnetic sticks game is going through manufacturers' arms race this past 1-2 years. We've had a bunch of manufacturers release and revise their hall sensors over the course of last year... then suddenly out of the blue, the technology evolved with TMR tech this Summer when Gullikit introduced their New TMR sticks. This, along with the web-based GUI recalibration tool looks to shaking thing up.
Initial impressions for my Hex Phantom H.E. are great. My circularity test came out to 5.9 on both sticks and 0.00392 on the axis values. I'm hoping it stays like this for long time without worrying to re calibrate them. Solid controller so far! Glad the review came today as I got my controller yesterday. 😆
They land there b/c of the build in deadzone. 5.9% is dookie. 8-10%min. 13% sweat spot for aiming 21.5% on left stick. On any gamepad not using radial.
@Vizr. That means you have a higher deadzone which means there is a higher error rate you make no sense 8-10 is more dokie then 5.9. lol what kind of Logic is that. You want less deadzone not more. And it's such a tiny difference probably can't even feel it.
@@Zeromobius19 dawg I play games with gamepads that have none. Not like a PS5 controller. What are you about. Inner deadzones cause the sticks to read 0.00392 which is mechanically impossible to always land there. And likely is landing at a higher % with the imperfections hidden. Just look at the specsheet of the modules themselves amd what the rated for. Which are rebranded and made by the same guys that make the ginfull ones. Error rate just shows ones range and symmetry including the center value. The way xbox and ps controllers are designed means less error = less steps. These gamepad only use 8bit resolution. The intended use of these sensors at 46° tilt is 255steps. Less when the shell restricts. (Sure it can support more if the only when the gamepad supports it) It doesn't use radial. 5.9% means its at the edge and close to undershooting. There are games that look for more and will have issues. I can calibrate regular pots to 0.5% "error" without deadzone or radial. Painting in or on the line doesn't mean good. Diagnals have a use.
That’s interesting, recently I bought two of the Hall effect phantom models off Amazon and they did not come with cases. The non-Hall effect also did not come with a case they sell as extra for $25.
I bought this Hall Effect version based on your recommendation of the non-hall effect edition. I am pretty satisfied with it. I got the gray one as well, and I love the look. My only gripe is the thumb stick caps have extra movement. Like I'll move the stick in a direction and when it reaches the outer limit, the cap will move a little, like it's not tightly fit to the mount on the Hall Effect module. Some of the caps are worse than others. It doesn't affect my play at all, its more of a build quality issue. Like it feels cheap if you have movement where there shouldn't be any.
Yeah that gray is pretty saucy, I think I know what you’re talking about I haven’t exactly experienced it but I think it has something to do with the anti-friction rings being loose like I pointed out during the build quality section, maybe that wasn’t just my unit that had that
My favorite controller size and shape wise is the game sir g7 se I also really like the placement of the 2 back buttons. Do you know of any similar xbox controllers with hall effect sticks and 4 back buttons?
