I remember seeing the SAHB performing live in 1975, they were playing at St George's Hall in Bradford, UK. Half way through the gig Alex put his hands up and the band stopped playing. Alex looked down at the audience at the front of the stage and said in his Glaswegian accent "If you c*nts at the front don't stop fighting, I'll go down there and kick the f*ck out of you". They immediately stopped fighting and the gig continued, that was the best gig I've ever seen in my life. R.I.P. Alex Harvey, 5th Feb 1935 to 4th Feb 1982.

The power and precision of Jones’ voice is a marvel, but the psychotic lyrics clash with his portrayal of the song. The natural hint of menace and playfulness in Harvey’s delivery together with rough edges, carries it perfectly.

The song is such a monumental piece of melodramatic silliness it lends itself perfectly to being sent up, and TSAHB knock it out of the park. Tom makes me cringe, the Glasgow ballet makes me laugh, so it's an easy win for Alex. The rhythm section here, Chris Glenn and Ted McKenna went on to play with Michael Schenker, and yesterday I was watching them backing Ian Gillan. Bruce Dickinson has also done a version of Delilah, if you can find it.

The SAHBs NAIL this song. Alex's slightly crazed voice gives it the sinister vibe it actually needs. Also, if you think the guitarist and bassist's little dance was funny, you should see it live at their own shows when the WHOLE CROWD does the dance too it's properly hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣 Unfortunately I am too young to have seen them do this with Alex, my Dad introduced me to them and I saw them with another singer as The Sensational Party Boys and what a show they put on even then, wow! Sorry to our Celtic cousins to the South but Scotland takes this one hands down.

A channel after my Heart. I just revisited another channel who honored my 2 of my suggestions both by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and I commented about Amos Moses was a cover of Jerry Reed, next thing I know this video came across my feed so I came right here to check it out and was going to suggest doing that comparison but then noticed you already did. Then you mentioned karaoke, so I have to tell you my karaoke experience with Amos Moses . At the time I thought The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was the original, and as a big fan I knew the song well, and when I saw it on the play list I was going to do it, So when the song came on it was the Jerry Reed version and I was totally lost the music was faster and the lyrics was faster I couldn't keep up.
Later I looked at the play list closer and saw who it was. Later I listen to it on youtube. later come to find out the Jerry Reed version is on the playlist for Grand Theft Auto games radio station.

At last. We all know Sir Tom's version and he undeniably has a great set of pipes, but SAHB take this to another level and another place. Considering the Whistle Test ran for 17 years this has to be in the top 10 performances and was a bit of a swansong for the group as Alex left shortly after this to go solo. If you want to look further into his career try his version of the Jacques Brel song 'Next'

First saw Alex in his Soul Band days at the R'n'B All Nighter in Glesga - I'd be about 17 at the time, so 1963. If any of you get the chance look up his stuff from those days on youtube - he really could sing soul, blues, rock 'n' roll - anything. Try this for size - ruclips.net/video/OGCYs48-41E/видео.html Or this one 'Framed' which he also did with TSAHB - ruclips.net/video/bQfURoMRmwg/видео.html His young brother Lesley was, for me, the best guitarist to come out of Scotland. Lesley was a founder of Stone the Crows, with Maggie Bell (another Alex protege).
Got to know Alex well when I came to London in 1968 - one helluva character and the number of musicians and singers who were in awe of him, when they called in to have a bevvy in The Ship in Wardour Street. Should have been Lord Harvey of Kinning Park. A huge influence on the Scottish music scene.
