      It’s just unfortunate that these shelters are so underfunded & overloaded that anyone can go in & walk out with an animal the same day. No home checks, no making sure it’s a good fit….just “oh, you want this one? They’re all yours”. Stella seems to have lucked out with a good family; but unfortunately, a lot of these dogs end up “rescued” into worse environments they came from.

      The dogs at shelters are there because they were picked up either on the streets or taken from abusive home environments. They stay at these shelters till they’re adopted out to a permanent home. Maybe not all of these shelter’s procedures are the best, but at least these abandoned dogs get a second chance. Must you be such a cynic?

      I've found that adult dogs are a lot less hassle. Often, they are already housebroken, or have been at some point, and they are able to hold bladders better than pups. I also have some steps in my house, so adult dogs are better with managing the steps.

      Same here. I love seeing so many people adopting from shelters and not just puppies. I wish we had better laws when it comes to breeding animals. My sister briefly dated this awful man who bred his two young dogs just for money and he hardly did the bare minimum to take care of all of the dogs. It made me sick that such a terrible, negligent and incompetent person could easily breed and sell dogs and have zero consequences.

      Not just his dog. I've had the best dogs by my side, and my youngest daughter now takes those reigns from me. Years ago my buddy hit me up, middle of winter in PA. He found a starved, almost dead, white pitbull dumped on his farm. I picked her up, my plan was to get her healthy, trained, and into a good family. My daughter was 6 years old, figured out the dog was deaf, and worked for months to train her. She, Trinity, wasn't a pitbull like I thought. She was a Dogo Argentino. I let the young one keep the dog due to the work and love she put in. We lost Trinity during covid. I watched my young one become quiet, antisocial, angry. So, I went online and found another dog who needed a home. My young one now has a Lab/Blackmouth Curr companion, Keira the Destroyer. The dog wrecks everything, shoes, doors, dog toys. But, my young one works everyday with her girl, and they are happy. Kids and their dogs, it's just amazing.

      I’ve actually heard of an even seen with my own eyes when shelter dogs turn and SEVERELY injure the kind soul who adopted them. NOT ALL, but some are traumatized and dangerous. I actually don’t recommend that people with children get a dog from a shelter. It’s a big risk.
      A puppy from a good breeder can be a blessing.
      Every dog and every family is different. Gotta respect ppl’s right to choice.
      Many blessings! 🐾💖

      My first dog, my parents pulled from a BJs. Former owner went in one entrance, left through the other, and the store was sick of this random dog running in to find the owner. Parents took him home- he was EXTREMELY fear aggressive.
      That dog was Jack, and even though he snapped at me once, it was because I stepped on him, and when I showed him love and affection, he bonded. That dog bullrushed other, bigger dogs because they would have knocked me over, even if they were friendly. He slept on my bed once I was old enough, and I still hurt a decade or more later from losing him to old kidney injuries.
      So, yes, some shelter dogs should never be around kids. But not all shelter dogs are the same, and not all dogs are aggressive for the same reasons. A good shelter will work to rehabilitate the ones like my Jack, and should never recommend a dangerous dog to a family. Meanwhile, my neighbor's 'breeder puppy' has never been taught or trained or disciplined, and now my family needs to carry mace in our own yard 'lest he jump the fence again. Don't judge the dog, judge the trainer.

    • @TheExigency
      @TheExigency 3 месяца назад +3

      @@queenj.8i895 That's like saying you should never trust a convict because sometimes some of them can be violent after they're released. A dog from a breeder can just as easily become violent and is absolutely no reason not to adopt from a shelter. I've worked in multiple shelters, doggy daycares, and have my own pets. Never had a single shelter dog hurt me. You know what kind of dog attacked my arm and ripped my piercings out? A pure bred rottweiler from a breeder. How the dog is treated is so much more important than where they come from and encouraging people to buy from a horrible practice for that reason alone, not only makes no sense and isn't true but is honestly horrible. But yeah, you have a choice.

    • @queenj.8i895
      @queenj.8i895 3 месяца назад +2

      @@TheExigency that’s actually a perfect example, I would NEVER invite a convict into my home with my children. That would be EXTREMELY unwise. No, not all people or animals with a past are dangerous, but the risk is much greater. I’m sorry, but I see your viewpoint as silly.

      @@queenj.8i895Why should people care what you recommend. I have a dog from the shelter who had previously had a family and was great with kids. it is a big decision that shouldn't be taken lightly, so I totally understand when people who are just getting themselves used to the idea, they prob think they should think on it. Dogs that get returned by adopters who don't make that forever commitment, get so depressed, more than the 1st time they were brought there. Foster to adopt is always worth discussing if there is ever any doubt to someone's commitment.

    A boy and his dog is what a boy's life is all about, responsibility, love, care, understanding. This is just wonderful, I picked my first dog when I was 4 years old and it was the start of a lifetime with dogs. Now I am 42, me and my wife have 5 dogs, all rescues and we have rescued 40 pups over the last 20 years. The world just wouldn't be the same without pups

    Every kid needs a pet. It helps them become more empathetic, responsible and creates so many wonderful memories. I have such great memories from all of our dogs and cats over the years. The only bad part is that they don't live long enough. But even then they teach a child how to deal with grief.
