Alright, you, prospective Angel main, im talking to you. Yeah, she's a sexy lady so its time to main her right!? WRONG. This video on top of the usual lore and trailer breakdown doubles as a character guide cause its time you learn the UNCHAIN SYSTEM, and why Angel is the single most complex and difficult character in KoF history. If you think she's cool, make sure to go through the entirety of the gameplay section of this video(its all timestamped) and make sure if you are ready for what you are signing up for! She's sexy and cool, but way more difficult to understand and use correctly than everyone else so you gotta put in the time!
I thought you were gonna bring up how she was created, back in 2001 evoga the creators of rage of the dragons (a mexican dev team) was invited to Japan to talk about that game and snk played them in kof98 at a neogeo arcade and lost terribly to evoga, then they were invited back but this time snk said whoever loses has to pay 5000 and create a character in the losers game with the winner's choice of design, this time snk brought 3 devs of KOF... they still lost and the lead of evoga (Ángel Torres) got to help create her in 2001... being Mexican is why I want to give her a try because she was made with pride by a Mexican dev team
@@asterhogan1 I know the basics of the story but not all the details. If I can't be thorough about it then it doesn't make the vid basically, cause I don't wanna risk getting a part wrong or missing important parts of the story.
@@rooflemonger he beat them All once then later on he beat them all again in a bet, winning his boss 5k in a money match against the best snk players in snk. He didn't make angel design, he did pick it out of many and by the grace of God it was the perfect one.
FYI about Ángel: her name was inspired by Evoga's lead lead programer in the 2000's who was a Mexican man named Ángel and spoke Japanese. In fact her genesis was in a bet between Evoga (Mexican dev team) and SNK staff.
i gotta admit...the thing im attracted to IS the Unchain System in a "why did you want to climb mt everest?" "because it's there" way. gonna go fire up kof14 to see what ive got ahead of me
Man the Unchain system is fun as hell, I used to play with her back then in 2002. Although she never was my "best" character, she is certainly one of the most fun to play with.
I played KoF 2002 for about 10 years against fairly high level competition, including tournaments. I only ever met one guy that played Angel well and he was a total beast with her. Everyone else was trash so this guy is not exaggerating when he says you really have to earn it to play well with her. That one guy though, he could even go into the corner infinite semi reliably for 20+ repetitions. It was a major "WTF".
> Boots up KOF 2002 UM (ON SALE BTW) > Picks Angel > Checks Move List > Returns to Character Select So many ppl saying they're gonna main her online lol she's on that Zafina/Baiken level "she's my main I swear"
Honestly didn't even realize Zafina was in that group. Maybe I just eventually got used to her, but the only thing that might be especially hard about her is figuring out the "hidden" stance changes that she has. Everything else honestly has a natural easy to find flow.
@@elric6 in Tekken 7 she got more accessible (probably, I don't have her as DLC) but back in Tekken 6 she had a VERY low pick rate yet ppl begged for her in 7 similar to Baiken and Angel.
Once you get used to a few BnB, she's super complicated. She's just becomes complicated at that point. She's truthfully the only character I know how to play next to Mary, Whip, Dinosaur, and soon Shermie.
Baiken isn't as hard as people make her out to be. Whereas Angel is probably the single hardest character in any fighting game. I had a gander recently on kof 14 and damn I almost had a heart attack.
@@dr.hasdan Baiken is just more of a SamSho char in Guilty Gear, which kinda throw some people off a bit. Angel is like "what if we actually force player to learn actual advanced martial arts?"
Ah, are we finally at the end of this massive glut of news? From KoF beta to Project L to Street Fighter and more? Well I got some special videos in the works and keep in mind Luke and Happy Chaos launch next week! The first of the KoF Saga lore videos(orochi saga) im finishing up right now. If it can make it up by the weekend it will, otherwise it will have to wait until after Happy Chaos week is over because Happy is getting the royal treatment in terms of combos/guides/etc. Each main saga will get a lore video building up to the launch of KoF 15! They will probably be pretty long!
I don't main Angel (though I do main May Lee), but I love what she represents. SNK's willingness to include characters that do something absolutely crazy. I love that KOF is a series I can play three Shotos or THIS.
FYI about Ángel: her name was inspired by Evoga's lead lead programer in the 2000's who is a Mexican man named Ángel and speaks Japanese. In fact her genesis was in a bet between Evoga (Mexican dev team) and SNK staff.
I had started learning her in 02UM because I love her fighting style/animations, but I did't lab long enough for the UC to become natural and second nature, so I dropped her. Now I'm taking her back to the lab in XIV to learn her moevs by heart. BTW the strongest Angel player I've seen is Dechimo, if someone wants to see what she looks like at high level, check his matches out!
Angel's got a lot going on but she's kind of like a Tekken character where yeah they have a jillion moves, but you really just need to know a handful of routes you like and not really worry about the rest.
I really don't jive with the tekken comparison cause Tekken is all fixed strings, unchain is a super fluid thing. Like yes its easier to compartmentalize certain aspects of it into like combo A, combo B etc, but 3d fighter strings are not flexible, unchain you can change with the flow depending on the situation.
@@rooflemonger true true. The tekken comparison just helps me with overall wrapping my head around her moveset. I understand it's not a clear 1to1. Love the videos by the way. Good vibes and super informative 👌
@@rooflemonger reminds me of certain tekken characters that have the same fluidity. Where there strings can sorta weave into eatchother and have differents starts. Very Nina Williams snake shot cancel or Lucky Chloe loops. But angel seems more complex regardless.
I decided to learn Angel in XIV after playing the other two members of Team Mexico, and she's honestly a blast if you're willing to try and get to grips with the unchain system. She also has a crossup jump normal, command grab and counter super, all of which i'm a sucker for. Also, fun fact: All of Angel's moves are named after songs from the band Soul Flower Triad, which I find very ironic considering they're very nice people (ie playing music in Palestine refugee camps), and Angel is well, Angel (ie mocking children that are traumatized due to the actions of the organization she worked for.)
No matter how much people say she's a hard character I will never waver I will learn her even if it means I die The power coom in me is strong and I shall use that to persevere and master Angel
@@skydance3388 In the manga she was really in a neutral state because NESTS is not more in her eyes and in the end she does something that makes her more of a good guy but I dont know how it will be in the games.
This is exactly why I forced myself to not play Iori during the beta. I got thousands of hours of Iori under my belt over the years, its time to move on.
If I end up getting KOF15 I'll definitely try her out, I'll most likely be terrible but it should be fun. Her design is nice and her mechanics seem really interesting and would be a great time, if you ever manage to become big brain and actually grasp her game flow.
I saw your vid a few months back about Sexy fighting game characters that are hard. I felt personally attacked, as I wanted to play all these characters for that reason. But unlike most people I like putting in the effort to master the SEXY
I'm convinced they made Angel look as good as she does solely to reward players that actually master how absurd her depth is. Like "Great job! You can now main the hottest girl." Only the truly dedicated can earn her
Same, I actually hate playing easy and/or top tier characters and winning with them lol. I started with May week one then found she's top tier and picked up I-No, then switched to Jack-O.
just FYI, this might help you to get into the game casually or competitively cuz the game is very intuitive to learn, kof will give you lot of character choice with varying flavour of playstyle: - classic grappler = daimon, clark, KoD, maxima - hyper/rushdown grappler = angel, ramon, mary, shermie - zoner/long range grappler = dolores, vice - rushdown + zoner + grappler = iori, athena - rushdown zoner setplay mixup = duo lon, isla, luong, mai, whip, chizuru - classic rushdown mixup = iori, angel, vanessa, chris, kukri - well rounded = robert, andy, joe, terry, k', kula - mid range/footsies char = kyo, yashiro, antonov, shunei, billy, benimaru, elisabeth, krohnen - classic zoner = athena, chizuru, ash, king, meiten, heidern, mai - corner combo guy = yashiro, ash, k' - mixup heavy character = whip, angel, iori *only a reminder, in kof, a classic grappler may seen as hyper grappler in other game due to the fast paced nature of the game and their universal movement tool (running, rolling, hopping), also usually zoner in kof doesnt play turtling or slow and methodical like guile in sf (but you still could do it if you want, it has risk of being cornered, also youre not taking any oki advantage to force your enemy a 50/50 mixup into full combo after succesfully knock them with your fireball) Sidenote = the game will be easier when you learn to do some button holding trick (to buffer your input), shortcut input (to make hit confirmimg into special/super more easier), the idea of kof gameplan/flow (what to achieve in neutral, how the neutral game work, how to pressure, how to defend) Usually the gameflow/gameplan part is less important, cuz you will learn it on the fly, and remember "the worst thing to do in kof is doing nothing", so just keep moving and dont wait for your opponent to act first (so you wouldnt be playing defensive from the start), also might as well do a lot of random stuff with you char most powerful tool (so your opponent wouldnt steam roll you with their char powerful tool) Especially with how fast paced the game is, it will make lot of minus move (usually the light version of the special move) will be unpunishable cuz it require very quick and precise reaction from your opponent which usually only happen in high level match or tournament only (but even the highest level usually also miss some punish due to the chaotic thing happening at the screen), so feel free to go random and think that kof is just like any old anime fighter game = xrd, +r, bbcf (so you really could learn it on the go, just like any anime fighter that have intuitive mechanic to learn, especially if you play it very casually, which mean your enemy wouldnt do any advance tech cuz they also play the game casually) Also the basic idea of kof combo is to cancelling it by levelling up your attack, starting with normal > command normal > special > lvl 1 super > lvl 2 super > lvl 3 super And if you do an ex special move, then you could chain the special move into other special move (there are some advance combo tho where you could create different/unique route out from those idea, but those basic combo structure should help a lot on what make kof combo more sensible/easier to do with how fast paced the game was, especially hit confirming after command normal into special/super is usually very very easy)
ill def address that in one way or another. Maybe the choose a main video at launch ill highlight characters specifically that are easier to use? Either way though robert is a safe bet cause he's Ryu, just with a command grab ontop of all the other ryu stuff
The other day, I took a look at Angel's moveset in KOF 2002 UM, and ooh boy! You weren't kidding with how complex her Unchained Circle is! There's gonna be a huge difference between Good Angel players and bad ones when KOF15 comes out! So I commend those who can actually play her correctly! ^^
before kof 2001 I was one of those shoto spammer dirtbags. when kof 2001 was released in the arcade...spent an ungodly amount of time and coins to learn how to play her properly. (i blame my teenage brain during that time) after learning her, I never really went back to shoto ever again. Angel, Blue Mary, King and Benimaru were my team back then...ahhhh, the memories.
I think May Lee is much harder than Angel but in a different way. Angel depending on how far you wanna go execution wise the skill ceiling is pretty high, but you don't have to, that's the main thing. You could play a "simple Angel" and still make her work fine since she got pretty straight forward tools with a very clear purpose. She got combos from her cr.B, overheads , built in low/high/throw/unblockable mixups in her follow ups, an specialized crossup aerial button, long confirms, etc. You could aswell do fine with her basic combos that require very little execution and not bother with the higher damage ones, specially in 14 and most likely in 15 aswell, the difference in damage isn't that big of a deal and won't gatekeep you from playing her. The hard part at the beginning is wrapping around your head how the follow up system works, but once you do that then she becomes a pretty standard character with a standard gameplan, you can do fine with that even against intermediate or advanced players, she becomes hard again beyond that when you need to squeeze all of her moves that are not used much and start thinking outside the box with them as if they were stand alone moves (by whiffing them, the first and second phase moves) May Lee on the other hand doesn't have a straightforward moveset at all she is the kind of character that even if you know all of her moves and are an advanced players you will have a lot of trouble winning against players of your same skill level and losing versus players below your skill level more often. May Lee in vanilla 02 is considered Top Tier yet almost no one uses her, you will see a lot of angel players in comparison to may lee players. She doesn't have combos starting from cr.B in neither of her modes, can't crossup into a combo, has no overhead normals, unrealiable anti airs, true 1 frame links for her most essential combo, her counter may whiff on hit and is intended for non aerial attacks, pretty reactable short hop since it's a little floaty, only has a command grab in hero mode and her aerial normals don't have much horizontal range or above her. Despite of all of that she is top tier , her gameplan is far more complex and hard to execute aswell. You can't really play a "simple may lee" and roll with that and be fine like you can with "simple angel", simple may lee would feel like limiting yourself. With Angel it's optional to not use her entire kit and do fine, May Lee you MUST use all of her kit if you want to win, and that's very hard to do because she is basically 2 characters in one (and one of them can't block) , you must keep in mind both movesets at all times at the same time, her normals and special moves in both modes are very specialized kind of moves, she has trouble opening up opponenst the traditional way since anybody can block her all day. She might hit you with a cr.B but that will lead into nothing, she has to hit with close D and rely on "full combo" kind of combos, to accomplish that goal she needs to force the opponent into committing to a roll or any high risk option, and she does that by pressuring the opponent enough with a guard break (which takes a lot of work and execution to pull off by the way), she relies a lot on that and on carefully frametrapping the opponent. Her strength comes from being able to cancel into her stance change from any normal (even on whiff) and any special move (on hit or block) To play a May Lee that actually wins it takes someone who is beyond advanced level, i am talking about kof expert junkie level , i know a lot of junkies like that and most don't even bother, May Lee is an specialist kind of character, it's rare for a top tier character to be so hard that still not so many people pick it. You need more overall kof knowledge and mastery to play as may lee, as Angel not so much honestly because the got tools with a clear, straight forward, easy to understand purpose Tl;dr Angel is hard at the beginning , pretty easy in the middle , then slightly harder later, "simple angel" is viable up until advanced levels, "expert" levels not so much anymore. May Lee is hard at the beginning and never gets any easier, her moves are simple to do but "when to actually use them in a match" is hard to apply, angel is the other way around, "simple maylee" is actually "crippled may lee" and isn't viable. .
So that’s how the unchain system works. That…seems a lot more reasonable than what I expected. Still gonna take a lot of time truly wrap my head around it, but I get the concept now. I think.
Its easier to learn when you compartmentalize it. The real challenge is being able to remember everything on the fly to adapt so you can keep pressure/attempt mix. Just learning it as combo A, combo B, combo C isn't too bad though, but things rarely work out as perfect as that.
easily the funnest character in kof, she is my main, trust if you learn her you wont let her go, bro if nameless is in the game im gonna flip, forward punch is new to me, havent played her since 2002 where she is broken, i,m liking her here also
At this point, might as well do “Team Waifu” with Angel, Kula and Li Xiangfei. Look, I just want Xiangfei in the game, okay… Fio from Metal Slug would be a good fit on a waifu team, too, tho
@@CrystalMang0 I never said I’d want her on that team. I said “might as well”, because that’s how most people talk about her, and it’s what I could see SNK do (never mind that the word “waifu” shouldn’t be taken literally here). I’d swap Fio for her any day of the week, anyway.
Day by day I’m kinda considering getting this game as a total outsider. My first real traditional fighting game I kinda invested time in was Tekken 6. And after experiencing Kazuya and Terry in Smash I’m thinking of getting Tekken 7 and KOFXV. Can’t wait to main invest month’s into perfecting Angel.
KoF has always been a great franchise and this is gonna be the best one in a long time. This is also going to be many peoples first KoF as well so theres many beginners to learn together with
this is like a one-two punch of heartbreak for the newbies. not only is angel the hardest character to learn in kof, but her being in the roster as a member of the mystery team basically means rock howard is confirmed dlc. people who don't play snk games are absolutely INCONSOLABLE at the loss of their lifetime main i liked angel in xiv!! never clicked with me in 02um but if she's like xiv angel but more usable then i'm all for it. i might very well have a full team with her reveal!
Very nice video once again. Its nice that you're taking the time to explain to new or beginning players that Angel is quite a complex character to play. You should definitely do the same with Vanessa. :D Anyways great vid. Looking foward to playing her on the 14th. :D I'm soooo hype for this game.
I did cover a bit of vanessas silliness in the vanessa trailer breakdown yeah. Angel is peak >Want to play cause Waifu >Too hard for waifu players to play, so I wanted to make sure it was all out there lol
Literally never played a KoF outside of messing around with friends in XIII. Saw Ángel and thought "she looks cool..." Bruh, she made me reconsider playing fighting games at all lol!
also going though the second rekka and back into the first rekka but jumping directly to the las rekka before starting another rekka that goes in the same rekka from before but then goes into another rekka to continue in the same rekka but now she can't go in that dekka so you go into another rekka
Bro, I did not bet an eye to this character (design's not for me) but after that gameplay explanation I actually want to try her out, I like offense n violence.
Imagine she is on a nest team with her, kula and k9999 like in 2002. I would be so happy if k9999 return he is one of my favorite kof characters. But its hard for them to get him but he could fit in the shatter all expectations, I hope he is back for me and the fans who want him back
Yea she's super waifu material and all that, and I definately picked her because of her aesthetic, but I've always liked super complex characters and stuck with her the last time around. I'll stick with her again this time around as well. Can't wait to play K' Athena and Angel as my team!!!
I would use my comment to go full Angel Simp, but I actually noticed a funny detail about the trailer. Remember when Dinosaur showed up and everyone was like "Team Mexico" and literally yesterday, we all thought she was gonna be Team K'? Well, intentional chosen or not, she beats up Antonov and K', both characters who represent those different guesses we all had, lmao
@@_-Lx-_ That’s more an SFV thing than SFIV thing, imo. And it’s not because she’s hard to play in SFV. Quite the opposite in fact, as she was seemingly simplified BECAUSE of her popularity. She just ended up boring to play, so not a lot of people play her anymore, as compared to SFIV. In SFIV her ”hold button to charge fireball” made her more advanced, but it wasn’t necessary in order to play her or even to do her fireballs, so a lot of newbies still played her, simply because she was fun.
2 года назад+1
I dunno, in Mexico she was actually pretty popular... in fact, if you went to the arcades and a guy maining her challenged you, it usually meant you would get your ass kicked. lmao
I liked her personality when I thought she was a fun wrestler, but knowing she’s basically just a psychopath who doesn’t care about murder definitely ruins that. Visually she looks cool and sexy, but not really what I’m into playing - I like playing giants, old dudes, and tomboys. What I AM into is more Rooflemonger KOF content. You’ve 100% got me on board for this launch, bro.
Since Kim likes to reform criminals what if he is on that team with another previous villain? I would like to see SNK finally bring K9999 back to be on her team too, maybe with a slight redesign.

Getting the matchup experience is the hardest part, no one was playing 14 online but my friends when I learned her fully so knowing what to use and when instead of just going for high low follow ups during unchain strings is a challenge. But I’m glad my girl is back, I was hoping for her or Vice and was sure neither were gonna make it.
Something funny if i remember is that angel was made after a bet with the developers in wich they got beated by some mexicans and the bet was that they will add a mexican character if they loose.
Gonna be sad if Maxima doesn't make it in even if Kula is more popular. But Maxima has been been with K since 99 so I'm feel our cyborg Canadian will make through. As he's one of my favorite character in KoF from the nest Saga. And then their leaves just Betty.
Ok she definitely will be on my team I didn't play KOF 14 but I played 2002, I want my Girly team and for that I need Vice. I love Vice and I still have hope to see her on KOF 15 maybe on the same team as Angel who knows
I used Angel a bit in KOF2001 and 14. The former, I sucked at with her yet ironically, I finished off the boss with her, though I nerfed Igniz's health (despite him still kicking my ass). 14 I wasnt as bad with her, but not the greatest. She's still rockin' though.
Somehow she reminds me Himeki Luna. I liked to play her a lot. I know, Himeki Luna is a stance character, with 8 different stances and a stance switching mechanic, but anyway. I definitely wanna try to learn Angel. Not because she's thick, but because she's sick.
I played way more Complex Fighters like *King* and *Armor King* in the "Tekken" series, but I'm only good at 3-D Fighters, I never even tried to Master a 2-D Fighter like Angel from KOF in my whole Life, the only 2-D Fighters I'm good at are *Jax* from "Mortal Kombat" and *Bane* in "Injustice" 1 & 2.
Yeah when I played KOF XIV and I got down to angel I was struggling when trying her out, I’m not one for memorization I got a terrible memory and the combos and everything was a real headache, makes me wonder why they make it so complicated lol
I'm actually interested in learning her now, and if I do, I'll literally be the opposite of the stereotypical Angel main...she isn't that hot to me imo But no one's gonna believe that anyway.
Vice/Mature already got de-confirmed in the sacred treasures story bit on the website. That said I still think the angel team will be heavy hitters. People asking for Slyvie and Nelson, these are not the characters they would go for the final reveals with. We only got 4 characters left and each one is gonna be a big deal, its marketing 101
Ngl i wasn't interested in playing her because i don't want to be seen as the guy who plays with waifus but, her super animation where she poses like Jotaro in jjba Heritage for the future kinda got me interested
Hrm maybe? I don't recall the hitspark on the qcb shermie move offhand though. Just stands to reason to me mostly cause the EX version of the move was basically useless in 14, making it a command grab gives it some life.
So she's got six or seven initial moves, but any one of those moves has like four or five follow-ups, and any one of those follow-ups has four or five possible enders. How does anyone actually play this woman? A good Angel must be *terrifying* because you don't know what the hell is coming.
kof 15 is getting the royal treatment like dbfz/mk11/gg strive in terms of guides. Launch will be more generalized stuff, but depending if i can get the game early i can afford to have time to get character specific stuff done
I mained her and 2k2, and loved every bit of it. Took me months to get comfortable in using her and making it feel natural, but it was SO worth it! And now you tell me her dash-grab is now a FULL ON COMMAND GRAB? Goddamn that makes her FEARSOME AS HELL. That shit's powerful.
I'm on Xbox and just seen a highlight of another player who in training just non stop combo'd till the other player died 😂 holy shit she got potential.

Don't you just love it when somebody is good with a character that never gets picked and they're doing stuff you ain't never thought possible?
So you should make a research because there's a lot of players that use angel at max level.. Ever heard of Yzkof or Fightcade 2 emulators?

So many ppl saying they're gonna main her online lol she's on that Zafina/Baiken level "she's my main I swear"
Crazy how much has come out in such a short time. The dnf fighter even woke up from it's coma
@@mugsofmirth8101 Sorry, I edited that. He is still alive.
Yeah its easier to feel out a route then remember each individual move.
@@rooflemonger I remember someone comparing her to how Killer Instinct characters play. How with all the combo routes you take them through.

But unlike most people I like putting in the effort to master the SEXY
hell yeah brother!
I'm convinced they made Angel look as good as she does solely to reward players that actually master how absurd her depth is. Like "Great job! You can now main the hottest girl."
Only the truly dedicated can earn her
Also to troll the noobs who pick her thinking that the ¨boobs¨ character will be the easy character.
I spent countless hours in training mode in the previous games, and I will spend countless more continuing to grow with her
something will definitely grow as you spend more time with her 😈💭
As a Jack-O main, I feel drawn to this character
Same, I actually hate playing easy and/or top tier characters and winning with them lol. I started with May week one then found she's top tier and picked up I-No, then switched to Jack-O.
Jack o is way easier to pickup than Angel. And in strive she's a lot more streamlined as well.
@@dr.hasdan Not to sound weird, but I think the first comment was talking about design since it's clear they're very different gameplay wise.
just FYI, this might help you to get into the game casually or competitively cuz the game is very intuitive to learn, kof will give you lot of character choice with varying flavour of playstyle:
- classic grappler = daimon, clark, KoD, maxima
- hyper/rushdown grappler = angel, ramon, mary, shermie
- zoner/long range grappler = dolores, vice
- rushdown + zoner + grappler = iori, athena
- rushdown zoner setplay mixup = duo lon, isla, luong, mai, whip, chizuru
- classic rushdown mixup = iori, angel, vanessa, chris, kukri
- well rounded = robert, andy, joe, terry, k', kula
- mid range/footsies char = kyo, yashiro, antonov, shunei, billy, benimaru, elisabeth, krohnen
- classic zoner = athena, chizuru, ash, king, meiten, heidern, mai
- corner combo guy = yashiro, ash, k'
- mixup heavy character = whip, angel, iori
*only a reminder, in kof, a classic grappler may seen as hyper grappler in other game due to the fast paced nature of the game and their universal movement tool (running, rolling, hopping), also usually zoner in kof doesnt play turtling or slow and methodical like guile in sf (but you still could do it if you want, it has risk of being cornered, also youre not taking any oki advantage to force your enemy a 50/50 mixup into full combo after succesfully knock them with your fireball)
Sidenote = the game will be easier when you learn to do some button holding trick (to buffer your input), shortcut input (to make hit confirmimg into special/super more easier), the idea of kof gameplan/flow (what to achieve in neutral, how the neutral game work, how to pressure, how to defend)
Usually the gameflow/gameplan part is less important, cuz you will learn it on the fly, and remember "the worst thing to do in kof is doing nothing", so just keep moving and dont wait for your opponent to act first (so you wouldnt be playing defensive from the start), also might as well do a lot of random stuff with you char most powerful tool (so your opponent wouldnt steam roll you with their char powerful tool)
Especially with how fast paced the game is, it will make lot of minus move (usually the light version of the special move) will be unpunishable cuz it require very quick and precise reaction from your opponent which usually only happen in high level match or tournament only (but even the highest level usually also miss some punish due to the chaotic thing happening at the screen), so feel free to go random and think that kof is just like any old anime fighter game = xrd, +r, bbcf (so you really could learn it on the go, just like any anime fighter that have intuitive mechanic to learn, especially if you play it very casually, which mean your enemy wouldnt do any advance tech cuz they also play the game casually)
Also the basic idea of kof combo is to cancelling it by levelling up your attack, starting with normal > command normal > special > lvl 1 super > lvl 2 super > lvl 3 super
And if you do an ex special move, then you could chain the special move into other special move (there are some advance combo tho where you could create different/unique route out from those idea, but those basic combo structure should help a lot on what make kof combo more sensible/easier to do with how fast paced the game was, especially hit confirming after command normal into special/super is usually very very easy)

Unchain looks pretty badass. Also, I’m never gonna bother to learn all that.
Now we need an “easiest to play characters” video for KoF.
ill def address that in one way or another.
The hard part at the beginning is wrapping around your head how the follow up system works, but once you do that then she becomes a pretty standard character with a standard gameplan, you can do fine with that even against intermediate or advanced players, she becomes hard again beyond that when you need to squeeze all of her moves that are not used much and start thinking outside the box with them as if they were stand alone moves (by whiffing them, the first and second phase moves)
May Lee on the other hand doesn't have a straightforward moveset at all she is the kind of character that even if you know all of her moves and are an advanced players you will have a lot of trouble winning against players of your same skill level and losing versus players below your skill level more often.
Her strength comes from being able to cancel into her stance change from any normal (even on whiff) and any special move (on hit or block)
To play a May Lee that actually wins it takes someone who is beyond advanced level, i am talking about kof expert junkie level , i know a lot of junkies like that and most don't even bother, May Lee is an specialist kind of character, it's rare for a top tier character to be so hard that still not so many people pick it.
You need more overall kof knowledge and mastery to play as may lee, as Angel not so much honestly because the got tools with a clear, straight forward, easy to understand purpose
Tl;dr
Angel is hard at the beginning , pretty easy in the middle , then slightly harder later, "simple angel" is viable up until advanced levels, "expert" levels not so much anymore.
There's a chart somewhere that explains it better but still very complex to understand especially mid match
i recommend not memorize everything bro, just try learning as much combos as you can with her

I dunno, in Mexico she was actually pretty popular... in fact, if you went to the arcades and a guy maining her challenged you, it usually meant you would get your ass kicked. lmao

But I’m glad my girl is back, I was hoping for her or Vice and was sure neither were gonna make it.
Something funny if i remember is that angel was made after a bet with the developers in wich they got beated by some mexicans and the bet was that they will add a mexican character if they loose.
Ive played her in every game shes been in so im already in it for the long haul
Gonna be sad if Maxima doesn't make it in even if Kula is more popular. But Maxima has been been with K since 99 so I'm feel our cyborg Canadian will make through. As he's one of my favorite character in KoF from the nest Saga. And then their leaves just Betty.
3:40 DID NOT KNOW THAT

Ok she definitely will be on my team I didn't play KOF 14 but I played 2002, I want my Girly team and for that I need Vice. I love Vice and I still have hope to see her on KOF 15 maybe on the same team as Angel who knows
Vice/Mature won't be making main roster. However they have a strong chance at DLC
She's hard, but so are her players so it evens out
I’m already bad at this game, so luckily Angel won’t impact my performance to much. Can’t resist a waifu that does the people’s elbow.
I used Angel a bit in KOF2001 and 14. The former, I sucked at with her yet ironically, I finished off the boss with her, though I nerfed Igniz's health (despite him still kicking my ass). 14 I wasnt as bad with her, but not the greatest. She's still rockin' though.
Not many people know this but you can also follow up a start up unchain with a low kick into an up dog
Somehow she reminds me Himeki Luna. I liked to play her a lot. I know, Himeki Luna is a stance character, with 8 different stances and a stance switching mechanic, but anyway. I definitely wanna try to learn Angel. Not because she's thick, but because she's sick.
Himeki Luna was likely inspired by Angel. And I'm certain Hasumi Eri as well when it comes to her chains and rekkas.
I decided to mess around with Ángel (hope i spelled that right) in kof 2002 um and she seems really fun but very complicated
I played way more Complex Fighters like *King* and *Armor King* in the "Tekken" series, but I'm only good at 3-D Fighters,
I never even tried to Master a 2-D Fighter like Angel from KOF in my whole Life, the only 2-D Fighters I'm good at are *Jax* from "Mortal Kombat" and *Bane* in "Injustice" 1 & 2.
She gonna be apart of Team "That's my main"
To give you an idea of how complex Angel is just compare the gameplay of two Angel players and they will play very differently.
Yeah when I played KOF XIV and I got down to angel I was struggling when trying her out, I’m not one for memorization I got a terrible memory and the combos and everything was a real headache, makes me wonder why they make it so complicated lol
I appreciate the extreme difficulty of playing a character with one hand.
Loving the Metal Slug stage! They need to make a new game or at least remakes!
There is a new metal slug coming out! Its different though as its a tactics game not a sidescroller
Kinda rekka based pro wrestler?! She's perfect!
KOF XIV was 75% off this week, bought it for steam so I could get some labbing ahead of things.
Bold of you to asume that I can learn 3 characters. I will use her, not learn her, just normals into specials or some basic BnB or string.
2:46 Amen
Fun fact: it’s pronounced “Kay Four-Nine”, not Kay nine nine nine nine
If casuals dread QCF, the FGC fears Angel.
I'm actually interested in learning her now, and if I do, I'll literally be the opposite of the stereotypical Angel main...she isn't that hot to me imo
But no one's gonna believe that anyway.
I love Angel but, I really expected the final team to be heavy hitters (Rugal, Goenitz, mature, vice, etc)
I played her in 14 because i picked up nelson and she felt similar. Interesting that they both have NESTS in their backstories.
I don't think 11:25 is a command grab, it is a hit grab like usual. Shermie Whip is another hit grab that has the red spark but only on hit.
Hrm maybe? I don't recall the hitspark on the qcb shermie move offhand though. Just stands to reason to me mostly cause the EX version of the move was basically useless in 14, making it a command grab gives it some life.
That move list made me physically ill
Thank you very much for this video.
The Rock just called he wants his People's Elbow back.
The rock is no longer the peoples champion since he's a sellout, that move belongs only to a real peoples champ so angel keeps it
So she's got six or seven initial moves, but any one of those moves has like four or five follow-ups, and any one of those follow-ups has four or five possible enders. How does anyone actually play this woman? A good Angel must be *terrifying* because you don't know what the hell is coming.
Can we expect an angel guide when the game launches roofle? 😉
kof 15 is getting the royal treatment like dbfz/mk11/gg strive in terms of guides. Launch will be more generalized stuff, but depending if i can get the game early i can afford to have time to get character specific stuff done
@@rooflemonger will love to see any character specific guides you'll do for your favorite characters
Seems fun and scary, time for a challenge
I applied for a bachelors in FG (Bsc) to try and understand her reka… haha ( great video and content as always keep it up 💪)
