Rundown of my Live Setup running Ableton Live for playback, and In Ear Monitoring. With this template you can fully automate tempos and AutoTune Key Changes.
You can also use the Ableton returns to create individual headphone mixes for all members of the band. One other point of confusion that I tackle is whether or not to use Universal Audio Console to do all this. And for this tutorial we do not use console and we use Ableton only.
Console would be great because it would have lower latency, but you can't automate tempo changes, and you would have to buy their specific version of Auto Tune.
I am just using AutoTune EFX+.
The last thing I should mention is you would need an Audio Interface with at least one headphone output and a stereo output. But it would be ideal to have a few diferent line outputs that you could use for example:
Main Out 1 - Vocals
Main OUt 2 - Tracks
Headphone Out 1 - Vocalist In Ears
Headphone Out 2 - Guitarist In Ears
And so on!
Note: you could also create delay and reverb send/returns that you hear only in your in ears and not in Front of House. But I will leave the rest up to you to customize every detail!
Let me know if this helps!

This was really insightful. I'm finishing up a live show of my own, and any little tips I can gain from people's sets like yours is very much appreciated
Thank you, glad it was insightful. Good luck with your show!
thank you so much for this! My team and I were trying to figure out a live performance set up recently and your video basically resolved all my issues
Hey Tripletfantastic, awesome that’s so good to hear!
This is awesome! I’d love to see you do a demo of setting up a track or a couple of tracks
Thanks! Will do, I have more videos coming!
hi there mate, how would this be routed to front of house so the audience can hear backing tracks and my vocals?
so helpful! thanks so much for making this vid!!
No worries thank you!
Bro you are the absolute goat for this video for real
Thanks Liam!
Thanks! You helped me a lot. Outstanding explanation in one single video, keep it up!
Thanks really glad to hear will do!
awesome video, thanks
Great video thank you!
Thanks man, but I still don’t understand how you deal with latency! I see your latency is relatively high, with a mic it’s still to much. I will use your tip however to try and solve my latency issues
My latency is high because I'm using an aggregate audio device to run two interfaces. For most people it would be much lower with just an Apollo connected. Have you toggled on and off low latency mode on autotune? Sometimes i've had problems with that.
Is there an advantage to setting the tempo in an automation lane vs. the usual tempo track method?
No, this is a slightly simplified tutorial. Please see my other videos for more info on this. I highly prefer using a separate click track
THANKS
So cool thanks! I cant seem to find this specific template when clicking the link in description?
Thanks so much for the heads up - it's there but you had to click load more. Im going to reorder everything so it's at the top!
Do in ears mix return channel have ability to control volumes for each instruments separately? Or do you know if that's possible like other mixers?
Yes totally, you would need to create multiple return channels for each person that needs a seperate mix. And control the amount of instrument level using the sends knobs!
Hey does it have to be Auto-Tune efx? Or can we use different version
You can use any version!
I need help
I have an Apollo twin quad
Running backtrax out of 1-2
Then running live vocals from input 1 to output 3(having to monitor in daw which I don’t want to)
And then guitar tracks coming out of line 4
My problem is not wanting to monitor from my daw to reduce cpu usage live
So I’m trying to get vocals to come straight from console
But my vocal & or fx are coming out of my amp(line out 4)
Got it! That's no worries if you want to monitor in console just unmute the channel and set the output accordingly. You may need to go into your I/O settings though and check that since your outputs are not routed as expected. Make sure you're sending mono signals to 3 and 4.
@@LucasMessore thank you so I ran into another issue
Regarding aux fx for vocals live
Even though I pan my aux send hard left (output3)
It still comes out of my amp “cause aux channel is stereo”
Any way around this?
@@prsnt3463 Yes of course. Ableton's stereo audio is a bit confusing at first. I would recommend that you put a Utility Plugin on there and collapse it to mono!
Great video! - might be a dumb question, but for lead vox to get autotune to FOH / is the mic running into my ableton rig ?
yes! You would plug mic into interface, into ableton and then out whichever output on your interface which goes to FOH. Or if you use Universal Audio you can skip Ableton and just use Console.
Hi, I've tried many times, but i always hear a double voice in autotune, even if I change parameters, i think it's a mix of natuaral and processed voice. How can I hear only the processed voice? I use Ableton Live 11 Lite and Antares Autotune pro, but I have the same problem with other autotune
you probably have your vocals monitoring in console. hit the mute button and just monitor in ableton.
@@LucasMessore Tanks! I use a UA Volt 2, don't know if I have a console and where I can find it
Would you be able to show dragging in stems in and using the template?
Sure! I have a couple cool ways of doing this, will post more videos on this topic soon!
Any tips for the key automation not functioning ? It works for auto access but not auto efx
Thank u
Of course, what do you mean by not functioning? If you enable automation mode you can draw curves for any Antares plugins. It can be confusing though and a few things can go wrong.
Did I miss it? How do you send click to the in ears but not the master out?
All good, yeah bottom right of the screen there's a cue output dropdown menu. You can also see it if you hit tab and go to mixer view. Called Cue Output at the bottom right!
Do you have your 'Tracks' running to both the Master Out and Sending to your In ear? How do you feed it to both? I only know how to do 'Sends Only'
Hi Jon! Of course the tracks are sent to both Master and Ears. You feed it to both by using the Sends/Returns channels in Ableton. But you must have an external output on your interface (like the headphone jack or a line out).
Hey is it possible to automate the autonetune in session view?
Yes that is exactly where I automated it
Oh! Got it. More specifically is it possible to run a set in session view with the autotune automated?
Doesn't come it with a ton of latency?
Hey Hatnin, there is some latency inherently; but with autotune low latency mode, an efficient session, the right buffer size, it works just fine for performance. You could get the UA autotune version to use with console for even lower latency!
@@LucasMessore Can you do all the automation stuff with the UA autotune because its outside of Ableton?
@@JackGrayMusic Yeah you definitely can! Just a slightly different process.

Hi! Do i also need a mixer if i want to sing with ableton plugins on?
Not necessarily, you could also use an audio interface. one of the two
