I had the same problem with my 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Limited. I just came back from the dealership who said they would charge me $250 for diagnosis and then the cost of repair. I said I would call back to schedule an appointment. Meanwhile I googled the problem and watched this video. Guess what, after 35 minutes of disconnecting the battery, everything is working like a charm again. Thank you so much for this simple and very effective tip.

Two-year-old vid, but I've been having this issue since I bought the car brand new in 2019. I got tired of not being able to be heard in phone calls and had to turn on the speaker mode on my phone itself. This video fixed it for me and it makes having phone calls so much easier now. Again, old vid but I can't thank you enough for the fix!

My Rolla 2020 Microphone and right speakers stopped working. I didn't try this method but rather remove the 7.5 DCM Fuse under the hood. Start the car, shut off, put fuse back. Now everything is working fine.

Thank you!! Toyota dealership knew NOTHING about how to fix the problem with my phone microphone on my 2019 Highlander. I disconnected the negative battery post for 3 hrs and it now WORKS! Very easy fix ... wish Toyota dealership knew how to fix their problems. I had a previous problem with the navigation not talking to me and my messages not being read aloud ... that fix I also Googled and it was to just push the start button 2x before putting your foot on the brake and then starting engine. Works every time. Kind of a nuisance to remember, though.

OMG! Thank you so much for posting this. My symptoms, in addition to the microphone not working for phone calls, was that my right passenger door's big oval speaker in my Sienna was not working! I am out of warranty, and hesitant to go to a Toyota dealership and have my dash board pulled out, and hesitant to go to a stereo shop. Buy your fix fixed both!!! After 30 min., reconnected the battery, and the green light comes on as you suggest, and it wants to download a software update. It downloaded, installed, and all is well with the right speaker and the microphone.

learned from trouble shooting PC's and Mac's always try again. I took the second tip and tried it again over night ,
about 16 hours. I also disconnected the positive and negative the second time. This time it worked. Always try fixes more than once, you will be surprised what happens sometimes.

We spent hours troubleshooting the issue with our 2019 Toyota Sienna. We were at our wits end. Then I found your video and we disconnected the battery overnight. This morning we reconnected the negative cable and all works perfectly. Thank you ever so much for your help and spending the time to share it with us. We are now aware that the Data Communication Module (DCM) may need to be hard rebooted whenever we have problems with our car and the connection to our cell phones.

Took this exact problem to my local Toyota dealer, along with your video suggesting a battery hard disconnect fix. They said they did the disconnect but the head unit needed replacement for $1,000+ parts, plus the installation labor costs. Later, after negotiations with the service manager, they said Toyota would provide a free "favored customer" head unit and I would pay $200 installation costs. I subsequently picked up my 2019 RAV 4 hybrid, awaiting the arrival of the replacement head unit. When I drove out of the dealership, I immediately checked all the affected systems and there were absolutely NO problems. Thanks to your video and some research of Toyota service advisories, i won't be ripped off by this dealership because of their fraud or incompetency. Sadly, I can no longer trust this agency for repairs or service needs.

This is good information. I also learned how to temporarily disable All microphones inside a Toyota whether they were installed by Toyota or others who may have a sneaky intent. I use an inexpensive 25 KHz Ultrasonic Piezo transducer powered by a 5 volt power supply and I place this in a convenient location inside the vehicle. When I want to use the Toyota installed Bluetooth microphone when using my cellphone, I just turn off the transducer and all microphones inside the car whether they are in a smartphone or part of the Bluetooth system return to normal function. When I need privacy I turn on my ultrasonic Microphone blaster and now have privacy restored. The audio frequency is so high that you can not hear (humans can only hear to a maximum of 20KHz) it but it causes a temporary scrambling of the microphone sensor membrane to jam all voice sounds. Any dog, cat or parrot you might have as a companion in the vehicle might not appreciate the 25KHz ultrasonic sounds since they might hear it

Now they can hear me again. Thanks God bless!

Wow! Thanks for this vid but before doing this, try the fuse fix first. Like others commented, removing the DCM fuse did the trick for me. Just pull the 7.5 fuse out with the puller included on the relay cover for a minute, not 30, not overnight, maybe even just pull and put it back and it should do the trick.

Worked like a charm on my 2020 Prius! I only disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes, that was long enough to reset the DCM.

The Toyota RAV4 hybrid has two batteries. Are you talking about disconnecting the 12 volt in the back?

Bluetooth and hands-free works normal, dcm reset complete, headunit software up to date. The person receiving the call hears a electric toothbrush sound using iPhone or Android phones or land-line phone? Your repair suggestion greatly appreciated.

Just purchased a 2018 Camry Hybrid and the display says microphone not connected. Tried unplugging battery but no luck.
Question is does the headliner have to come down to get to the microphone or does the upper console piece come off?

If disconnecting the battery over night can the radio lose all its settings and presets. Plus here a good question water coming in around the roof rack and running down the B and C pillars a shorting out all of the wiring harnesses. Right now the price is over $16.000 bucks because of tiny little washers that’s suppose to stop water from coming in. This is 2020 Rad4 premium. Toyota is not standing behind the product with is still under factory warranty.

AMD, I want to report this fix also works for Lexus. This worked on my 2015 RX 350 that was plagued with Bluetooth problems. Also, 30 minutes is insufficient. I tried it for 30 minutes and it did nothing, but an overnight disconnect worked!

Great Video!! But I just got my 2019 RAV4 Limited back from the dealer, this past Wednesday. They replaced the Telephone Transceiver Assembly, it was covered under the Warranty. However now I do not have the option of (Dictation Reply) to an incoming text and I dread going back to the dealer. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get that option back?

Thank you. My voice command was not hearing me. My hands free wasn’t working. No one could hear my voice. I drove to the dealer. Rather than tell me the truth… they told me to pay for the $160 per year subscription that expired after 24 month of ownership.

Deleted all phones, disconnected negative terminal overnight, replaced the dcm fuse under dash and did a system update via Toyota website through the usb port. Speakers sound great when playing music via bluetooth but when on a call, only get sound through the drivers dash speaker and it is very distorted on both the callers end and mine. Still searching for a fix.

Hello my dear, It looks great way to fix the issue.
I just bought USA corolla 2020 LE(used one)
I have 3 issue, when i press handsfree call botton or when radio is on it says "microphone is not connected".even bluetooth in setting is grayed out and camt add blutooth(add device is not working).
Regarding SOS light the big Red remains red after start the car but there is a small green light beside the right which is switch on.
When i press SOS speaking command say" its try to connect to connect if you want cancel press it again".
2- with door open the front head lamp deast work even door open option has been pressed.
3- the passenger side speaker door speaker not work.
I have tried your trick and also pulled out DCM/myday 7.5 fuse still doent turn to green and not work!!!.
What are your ideas about the issue.
Appreciate so much if you answer
    Sincerely,
    Farman

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me on our 2018 Lexus NX300. I unplugged the battery for 4-5 hours and pulled the DCM fuse out but my Bluetooth mic still doesn’t work ☹️
So this means the actual mic or DCM are just shot ( and not just frozen)?

Good to know but, disconnecting the battery causes other issues no? What happens when you disconnect the battery?
Next this doesn't address the problem of why it locks up plus Toyota doesn't get to know who has the problem. Will a new DCM fix the problem from happening again? I have a 2018 Camry LE and I don't know where the DCM is located nor do I remember ever seeing it. Where is it located?
    Thanks
    David

Hi! There’s a software update not to resolve this issue if it’s reoccurring. Also disconnecting the battery shouldn’t cause any issues
