Thanks guys, great video. 52 year old broad here, with a 2005 Ford Explorer. The only challenge I had was fishing it through to the open dash, once I had it run over to the steering column. I went into my kitchen, and grabbed a long thin metal skewer with a hook at the end, ran that through the open dash, grabbed a loop on the mic wire and VOIALA!
After watching many videos and reading dozens of forums on different approaches, I used this technique. It was one of the best placements, requires no modification to the dash, and it seems solid in my 02 Four Runner. Getting the A pillar bolts out of the 4 Runner was going to be a bear, so I routed down the weather striping as shown.
The video is great, shows all the steps clearly and doesnt have BS music or flashy graphics. Simply the right approach, shown clearly. I can't thank you enough, you saved me from drilling or desecrating my dash!
I did this on my Toyota Prius C / Aqua.
This was more than helpful. The Bluetooth microphone was originally placed on top of the steering column cover and it had terrible clarity to the other party, it was worse when I turned the wheel while driving. After I placed it as you recommended it's crystal clear.
Thank you and keep up the good job.
My biggest question was “location?” Thank you 🙏 the center is perfect
good but threading it through the dash is what i'm looking for.

I forgot my new stereo came with a Bluetooth mic. This video helped me so much! Thank you for the amazing help
I hope you are open to feedback. It would have been a big help for me to see you take off the A-pillar and also route the wire across the steering column. Nonetheless, the video was still very helpful regarding the placement of the mic. Thanks.
bradh716 same here. i watched the whole thing just hoping for some tips on how to route it behind the dashboard and steering column and that step was just mentioned and skipped over.
bradh716 I feel you pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+bradh716 sometimes you have to just jump in and do things and use ur mind to figer it out !
Yep. That's what I did.
Huge ups for this. Finishing an install on the iLX-W650 and the most difficult part wasn't the backup camera or the XM antenna...it was figuring out where to install that damn mic. Perfect!
Thanks for this! Found out it's really easy on my MK1 Ford Focus, as the bottom of the dash in the footwell and into the back of the radio cavity is pretty open from the factory. I only had to take off the a-pillar cover and that was it. Drops from there to the fuse box and was able to tuck the cable under the edge of the plastic cover on the bottom of the steering column then right into the back of the radio cavity. Thought this might be helpful as there are a lot of 1999-2004 Focuses around that I'm sure people will want to add more modern head units like me.
Was a really helpful video except I don't know how to run the cable through the dash to the stereo area :(
Exact same problem I have haha :(

What do these mics do?
@@AlfredoMartinez-hv6oe FBI uses it to spy on you. Kidding, they hook up to your aftermarket radio so you can use hands free bluetooth calling.
U can run it under the steering wheel column
Sweet video! Do you recommend an aftermarket microphone over the stock one that comes with the head unit? I have a Sony AX5000.
For those who are afraid of running it around the steering column or don't think they can I am sure you can run it across from the passenger side a-piller and run it under the glove box up into the center. I have not done this before though so I could be wrong.
Gap on passenger side easy to run thru.
mic can be placed on top of steering wheel cover and just under the speedo. easier and safer closer to driver side. but u will need flat type mic.
Thanks for the great tutorial! It makes my bluetooth setup MUCH cleaner.
If it has the same connection as the device you plan to use, then it should work. Most headunits themselves will not let you use it as a PA system.
Nice video, I'm glad you're using a Celica for this example :)
*YOU SAVED ME FROM A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN! THANK YOU!*
Thanks dude! This helped me install a mic today. My phone is connected? Nice!
What do these mics do?
How exactly do you get the wire from the side panel through the dash to the head unit? It seems rather difficult
Yes he didn't show how he did that bit. It looks to be a real difficult job
rareads I was able to get it done in a few mins, although I relied heavily on the last few years of yoga ive been doing. I had to get underneath the dash and poke through certain spots with a wire hanger.... then I fashioned a hook out of the hanger and wrapped it around the aux plug, pinching it around tight with some pliers.
What do these mics do?
Thank you! I got mine installed and it works great. Thank you sir!
What a coincidence that your using the same car as mine... Anyway how hard is it to route the wire through the dash board like do you stick your arm in their and try and find it or will it pop right out
Hi, would you recommend placing the mic in this location if the car is a convertible. Thanks.
Why did you call this a Bluetooth mic? Bluetooth is wireless, and this is obviously a wired mic. What am I missing?
Your phone connects via Bluetooth.
Thanks. Very informative. But you skipped over the most difficult part. How did you fish it through the dashboard. It’s pretty safe to say that mostly no one knows how to do that.
Glad I found this video, I'm doing this in a few days with my new Sony WX GT90BT
What if you have an airbag in the side pillar where you are running the wire?
Probably not a good idea to put it there. Best location is mount it on the steering column or in center of the headliner by the rear view mirror like it was shown in the video
Do they make and good mics? The ones that come with the radios are very cheap. Other people can hear you but they can't understand you. I good mic would likely resolve this problem. Suggestions?
Some of these questions being asked are pretty funny!
Running the mic to the desired location is easy, pulling off all the panels, taking everything apart, and finding a pathway to the location is a little more difficult.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for this I have been having problems with that
Do you have a video of that? This one was great and helpful
Excellent 'how-to.' Thank you.
rcsays Thank you! Hope it helped.
Sonic Electronix great to know.. I'm doing this to my 2012 Nissan Versa HB with a Pioneer AVH-290BT that I just bought.. thanks guys!! 👍😋
I found this very useful in my own install recently.Did it exactly as Brandon suggested here.I am having a problem with static noise on the other end.I can hear people fine, loud and clear, but they're getting a lot of static noise.
Its fine if the car is sitting still but when it is moving at higher speeds then the noise starts.Any particular reason that could be happening?
Very helpful how you're doing it on a celica as I have the same vehicle.
Same with me! Just bought myself a Celica, looked up this video randomly, and I was so happy to find it was a celica he's demonstrating on. Life is kinda cool sometimes. :D
I used a length of line trimmer cord to pull the end of the mic lead through the dash, went through easily
great video, helps a lot!!! also, are you guys planning on making an installation video for factory steering wheel controls for audio with an aftermarket interface for aftermarket radio??? for example, the axxess steering wheel control interface.
Cool, my car looks nifty with the microphone above the mirror.
how do you run the wire from the side panel to the head unit?
They should make the wire at the mic end a plug so if your mic fails, it's easily replaceable.
Thank you for the information! It's greatly appreciated!
Great video! I was wondering the best location to mount this and your explanation was awesome. Thanks!!!!
It woukd help me a lot if you showed were you plug in or put the microphone wire when your finished fishing it out throught the dash. But grate video
Thank you. I put mine by the driver's door, where you said not to and it is loud. I'll be changing that!
Thank You!! Your video is very helpful.
The device is only the microphone itself, which could technically be stolen easily, but it is not worth the hassle to steal just the mic. Chances are they would go for the radio itself.
This video helped me thanks.
Great that it's a celica! Same vehicle as mine
Nice. Im trying to mount a mic in a celica.
Are these better than the units that are built into the head unit?
my headliner wont pull down like it does in this video it feels way to tight to pull down with my hands or a pry tool so im nervous about tucking the cable up there also how do I get the cable from the A pillar to the head unit?
So how did you get wire from the A pillar, over the steering column, to stereo receiver??
right? leaving out one of the most difficult parts seems like a good idea in a how-to video.
@@invisinak3921 or you could stick you lazy ass head under the dash and look for yourself. its not rocket science look up see where the rest of the wiring goes and follow it. Do you need a road map or pictures? god gave you eyes and a brain figure it out rather then being entitled spoiled asses and learn to problem solve for yourself instead of wanting everything handed to you the easy way
Wrap the wire with foam tape above the headliner to prevent rattling noise
Thank you for this video bro.
The one thing I watched the video for and you didn't show it. Lol. Which is where in thr harness does it connect to! And can you use any aftermarket mic.
Is there anything you need to do to the Pioneer stereo for it to work or is it plug and play?
you have to have a blue tooth ready deck for this to work? or do you need some sort of module? I have an older pioneer single din
Wow you showed us everything obvious and left out removing a frame and threading through dash.

There is a reason people come to an INSTRUCTIONAL video. Usually they don't have a lot or any car knowledge. Even if this process is different from car to car it's nice to see it done so it gives people a better idea what to look for in their own car instead of doing something wrong enough to cause a major issue.
Thanks for the video it was helpful
Hey, what are these mics used for, i have one in my car.
so what about the side airbags can you tug the wire in or what would be the solution
Hi Dear, very nice explanation for installation. I have Maxlink Android Car Music player. It has in bust MIC soldered in side the player, it just one small hole for capture the voice. This is not good enough for listeners. So I’m planning to use same MIC which you showed. Just remove the soldered MIC and extend the MIC cable and place the external MIC near the Center of car. So I needed your opinion. Will it workers for better voice to listeners? Please help. My system model is MAXLINK T3 16 GB MODEL.
It would go to the back of the stereo in the center console.
I want to do this with my car but there is a side curtain airbag in the pillar. Not sure how to take off the trim there. Worried I might trip the airbag or something. Any thoughts or Ideas? My car is an 8th Gen accord
Unplug the battery before messing with that then u won't have to worry about it going off
Where can you find a mic with a clip like that? All the ones I'm finding now are short and would not extend past the curve of the headliner.
Question can this be used as a microphone to listen to people in the car?
Wtf lmao are you trying to spy on your kid or husband? Quit being weird
thank you for sharing
Can you put more than one mic ?
Where do you plug in the end of the microphone to?
Do they make any microphones that look oem?
I just got mine installed n it doesnt work...the wire is not pinched anywhere and it's plugged in radio properly. I have it mounted by my rear view mirror. The head unit is a pioneer avh-x2700bs
+ivorton23 Having the same issue with a deh-x9500. Mic won't work!
Is there a way of using it to hear ppl in the truck conversations?
i have an air bag in my side column i have an 07 honda fit how could i run a mic through that? or where should i run it
How did you do it after all?I have a Honda Element '07 myself and it also has side airbags. The previous owner had a mic and it actually runs through the side air bags. The thing is I don't want to mess with the airbag.
can i still remove the side panel if it has an air bag in it???
What's bluetooth about it?
What I'm trying to figure out is why my mic sounds terrible to others. Been this way since day one where everyone can hear my car engine and other noises such as road noise etc... No noise cancelling seems to occur. Tried 2 different mics. I have a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS (discontinued) head unit.
Bought auto equalizer mic coming this Thursday to plug in my aux jack. Maybe it will help. Drives me nuts...
Did I miss the part where the wire attaches or plugs in?
do i have to install the microphone if my car has onstar and all that jazz?
Their seems to be a buzzing on the receiver side, when I make a call when car is on. Any ideas.
How do you remove the a-pillar without cracking it.
You don't
what color on the wire harness ?
What do these mics do?
How do you remove the plastic from the pillar ? I don't want to break it !!!
I have a jvc and a mic I'm trying to pair my android to use hands free but it's not working any help would be awesome
I have mine hooked up avh 5700 but no sound working from Mic can't find any info on it
i can hear people when i make bluetooth calls from my iphone to my kenwood head unit but they can never hear me even when i use good mics and have the mic gain turned up . its very annoying i cant figure it out , there is no mute button . i did buy it used so maybe it was already bad when i got it idk , it would be nice to have on long road trips.
how can i keep my existing mic and somehow splice into after market radio bluetooth jack. (pioneer avic-7200nex)
I'm Holding my unit now and cant figure out where the microphone gets plugged into on the back of it.. Help Please!
how to install a Audio Technica mic in my car ?
Does anyone know how to mount the bt microphone in a 2004 Tahoe? I’m planning on installing a bt unit sometimes this month. Let me know! Thanks
I should mention the location, im thinking about putting the mic on the A PILLER of the driver side or steering column
It's easy but the a piller is tricky be careful not to break any plastic tabs
my mic was working but think I did some Thing as to why it's stopped kenwood KMM-BT302 phone call comes through my radio not the mic
Why didn't you show the toughest part of this vid: fishing it through the dash? I'm afraid my wire my get wrapped around the steering column by accident while I'm driving :(
I have kenwood kdc620u. My problem is when i make a call, people cant hear my voice. Is there any setting tu increase the volume of microphone. Ps:I set the mic gain to max +10.
I'm having the same problem with my Kenwood and I can't find the answer anywhere. Let me know if you found a fix for it.
Take apart the dash and make sure that the BT Microphone is plugged in all the way. I had the same problem with on a pioneer DEH-X6600BT, the culprit was a loose plug. Wasn’t in all the way
Would this work with an aftermarket android head unit? The mic on it sucks lol
Okay I know this is old but I need help I ran it just fine and everything but it isn’t working i messed with the gain and all that but it isn’t picking up my voice i used voice memos to test it and it has a humming sound now if I yell and get close to the mic I can hear me but it’s very faint any idea on why this could be (it’s a brand new mic)
He just zoomed past the hardest part about this...running the wire through the dash.
I don't know how to run the cable through the dash to the stereo area :(
Can anyone tell me where to plug in the mic after all this is done? , Ive tried in the aux and in the phone.
The mic allows for hands free calling over bluetooth. It plugs into the back of your Head Unit/Radio
Forgot about the hard part which is running it through the dashboard
