  • A pet cremation urn made from ash. I filled a number of large cracks with black epoxy resin. During the turning I found out that I had made a too large shape. So I had to correct that.
I don't need this pet urn yet!
In fact, I hope I don't need it for years to come!!

Hi Frank, That is a beautiful looking Urn. I hope you don't need it for many years to come. Take care Frank. Cheers, Huw

Thanks Huw. I also hope we don't need these next few years. I don't think I could make it if we needed it right away.
      Thanks for watching.

Hi Frank! Its really a pretty piece but perhaps it is better keep it somewhere out of sight.
Some things are inevitable but looking at an Urn standing at the ready would be a constant reminder (for me at least).
Better to enjoy the time you have left. Lets hope you aren't going to need it for a very long time!

Thank you Leo. I don't think I could make this one if I really needed it, that's why I made it now. I'll keep it well out of sight.
There is no one at my house who likes this one. Although I have worked on it with great care and attention.😌

Some spots were very sticky or did not come off properly. But with the carbide tool those parts were quickly clean again. I don't have a pressure pot, so I don't know if that goes well together.
      Good luck!

A labor of love I'm sure. And we too hope it's not needed for years to come Frank. Nice piece; good job on filling the cracks. How much resin did you use ? I've got s log or three that wil need the same treatment I think. Merry Christmas to you and yours Frank🎅🎄 Stay safe. -Mike😷💉

Thanks Mike. hehe, I'm dutch and we are verry niggard🤗
That's why I filled the cracks this way, because if I had to put this in a bucket, I needed a lot of resin. In the end it was 2x the amount that I show in the video. I needed some more for the lid and for filling some air bubbles. Later I added some 2 part epoxy glue with some coloring agent to touch up some small cracks.
      Happy holidays to you too.🎄

I don’t want to be rude but it's perfect. Love that shape and smooth surface, Frank. I hope You will not have to use it too soon. I see You have Your own stamp. I was thinking to buy my own and I even made a logo but I don’t know how to seal it without blurring. Have You any idea (without lacquer of course)? I seen how one woodturner used a Yorkshire Grit.

Thanks Rav🤝. It is a sensitive piece of work. Not everyone likes this topic. I am glad I made these. I wouldn't be able to make it when it needed to.😌
The stamp works very well (never seen I used it before?). I only saw once that I had blurry ink with wax. But then I hadn't let it dry enough. If you wait a few minutes (depending on temperature and humidity in the workshop) I have no problems. This weekend I will do a test for you on a piece of wood with different finishes such as oil and wax. I will take a picture of it and send it to you by email.

@@TheTinyWorkshop I didn't seen Your stamp before or just don't remember it. I'll be grateful for pics. I was trying ink on oak wood but the try failed. Maybe I used too much ink in one place.
      Stay safe my friend.

@@Secondlifeofwoodturning Rav, I have a stamp and some experience on wood - My logo in a 1 inch diameter is too detailed so it is hard to get it on - too much ink and it smears, too little and it is faint. The ink I got is called 'permanent' which they recommended. One dried alcohol doesn't dissolve it and it covers well woth varnish or shellac. The stamp can be made by anybody and I'm sure they have good inks too. I used StazOn Permanent Ink from rubberstampchamp.com. I think Stazon is from Japan. Take care. -Mike😷💉

@@mpart_woodlathe-stuff Thank You for tips, Mike 🤝 My logo stamp is ready but will be different than my sticker becouse as You said it is too detailed and hard to get it on. I have two types of inks so we will see. I need to know will I be able to seal it properly becouse it could be stupidy if I destroy 2 weeks of work with one bad stamp 😁
      Take care my friend 😷👍

@@Secondlifeofwoodturning Two things I think are important with rubber stamps - Application and solvents.
*Application:* How you apply it. Doing by hand is not easy - can get crooked, smeared, and use too much or too little ink. Best is to practise on anything - paper or wood. Just do many many times until you are expert at apply. Of course you need a flat surface (can't be curved).
*Solvents* How you finish will affect the ink and how the ink will lay on the wood. I put a layer of finish on the wood before the ink - I have seen it soak into the wood a bit and make it look fuzzy. And if you need to remove the ink it will be easier to remove if it has not soaked into the wood.
I have also tested solvents - does my solvent affect the ink? Test each solvent with wet or well dried ink. I have found sometimes wet ink will smear with the finish. Test woodworking solvents you may be using - alcohol, acetone, mineral spirits. You can try solvent directly or try as found in a finish (shellac=alcohol for example).
A bit wordy, sorry, but that's how I roll hehe. Bottom line is *practise* and *test* to get best use of rubber stamps.
      Best of luck !!
