    Someone commented on a different video of yours and I was reminded of the huge influence you had on me when saving for my watch. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I ended up buying the Sea-Dweller a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier! It is timeless and beautiful. It wears much smaller than I anticipated but I can see how the height could be tricky with a tight button down sleeve. Thank you again!

    Nice video, thanks. I had the SD4K, awesome watch for sure, but I never really gelled with it. Sold it and got a 16610, which I enjoyed a lot more. But then I bought a 16570 (black) and it's absolutely the one for me, will be selling the Sub soon. The 16570 is the best looking and most comfortable one for me. I think even more comfortable than my 116200 DJ, which has been the most comfortable watch I've ever owned in my 14 years deep in the hobby.

    The Sea dweller 116600 (SD4K) was the last true sea dweller and the best Rolex sport model ever made… the lugs were perfect, non cyclops, mate dial , fully graduated bezel … perfection

    OMG - I’m going through this very choice, never thought there’d be a comparison. Great video, thank you….odd duo to choose between I know but I am (!) Think the 116600 may take it….

      The 116600 is a great watch to be sure. Ultimately, I found it too thick for my liking and sold it on, but I'm admittedly very fond of slim watches so your mileage may vary. Glad you found it useful

    Dude, thank you! Great video. I am surprised at how the Sea Dweller almost looks smaller from the top than the Explorer 2! The Explorer 2 looks like it may be easier to read at a glance than the Sea Dweller which is also interesting. I appreciate you taking the time to make the video! This definitely helps and I will be watching it on repeat in the coming months as I save up!

      They're the same size top down. The Exp looks bigger because of the lens distortion. If they're both on the center frame they should look the same size.

    116600 is becoming extremely difficult to obtain within the UK. This will rocket in price over the next few years - for that, I am certain. If you own this watch, you are extremely lucky!

      Cheers, thanks for the comment. The price had been going up very slowly for a long time after I bought mine several years ago; I didn’t get it speculatively, I just got it because I considered it the perfect diver (modern upgrades of ceramic, glidelock, movement updates, 40mm size, no cyclops) and it was my grail watch. It is interesting because my hulk went up in price quickly after being discontinued, but if you look at places like Chrono24 there are many hundreds available at all times, whereas there are usually only a couple of dozen 116600s at any given time, which is interesting. The demand for the hulk is obviously much higher, but it will be interesting to see what happens in a decade or two. Thanks for watching, check out my other videos if you like this one, I have many talking about various sport model rolexes

    Nice video. BTW, you can add a modern EasyLink to the 16570 clasp without any problem. I've done it with mine and now it fits gorgeous at a very moment...

      Yes indeed! I often switch a glidelock clasp onto the 78790A bracelets of the 16710 and 16570; with the solid end links and the slight bit of heft of the modern clasp, it’s a combination I actually prefer to both the old bracelets and the new fully solid ones - it’s really a sweetspot! Thanks for watching and commenting, cheers!

    I’m surprised but think that the polar looks bigger vs the sea dweller from an overhead side by side view. I have that sea dweller and it’s a cracking daily wearer but now would love to add a explorer 2 to the collection. I personally prefer the black dial though as I think it goes with more.

    • @my5digithobby967
      @my5digithobby967  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. It must be an optical illusion because in person the 16570 looks noticeably more compact and less substantial. They are close in dial size, but the case, lugs and definitely thickness are much more diminutive. If you have fully gotten used to the sea dweller as a daily, a 5 digit explorer 2 will come as a bit of a shock - I’d guess it would almost seem flimsy at first especially if you don’t have other 5 digits. It’s objectively not flimsy, but may seem it by comparison at first, though you get used to anything after a few days.
      As for dial colours it’s totally preference. My 16570 came with black dial from the factory and is very handsome in black. Technically speaking, white combines with colours much more compatibly than black which clashes with colours and is traditionally an exclusively formal colour (weddings, funerals, black tie, etc) but those rules are definitely not followed anymore. I only mention it because the versatility of a white dial may surprise you as it is actually better suited to almost every scenario, certainly casual, jeans and t shirt (other than black t shirt lol which doesn’t really go with jeans but people do it all the time), even any suit other than black or charcoal would pair better with white technically. But again, this is not usually how people think, and black dial watches were considered the default for a long time before blue and now green dials became popular because they are more casual. Just to say, white might be a better option for versatility and variety than you have considered but it definitely looks great in black!

      @@my5digithobby967 Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've owned a number of Rolex's over the years, including a GMT 16710 pepsi from 2002 and a 16750 from 1979 so I'm guessing this would wear somewhere in between those 2 GMT's?
      I don't own either of those watches anymore but wanted to add back in a more vintage piece - in fact I was thinking of getting a 16550 as I like the open 6's and 9's date wheel and the bezel looks a little more substantial with the bolder markers but again that's probably an illusion!
      I agree it's a bit of a tough call when it comes to dial colours. I've tried on a white dial before and did like it but for reason I find myself preferring black dials. If I got a white I'd love one from the early 90's as the lume plots tended to go a little more yellow and those do look pretty cool, albeit they do command a premium over the black dials or the later white dials.

      @@my5digithobby967 I do comparisons as well but not sophisticated enough to film videos. I guess the biggest find for me is 16600 is smaller than 16610, but thicker. The old aluminium bezel insert SD is a very special form factor for Rollie professional diver watches. The old 14060 is another beauty with a different set of case proportions, a very slim profile and only two lines of text on the dial in addition to the Rolex logo and perpetual model ID. These two
      are increasingly difficult to find these days.

    I also noticed that you mentioned living in Canada, which I’m assuming has colder weather at times. Do you find that the Sea Dweller, because of its height on the wrist, is less practical as a daily wear watch in the colder seasons, with long sleeves, sweaters, etc?

    • @my5digithobby967
      @my5digithobby967  4 года назад

      The video medium is only so effective... in reality the 16570 is way more compact and wearable. The thickness of the 116600 is very apparent in person. If thickness is in fact a concern I would advise against the seadweller; a 114060 or 116610 might be the best option if you want the upgrade in performance and/or swag, and enjoy a sleek wrist presence.however 5-digit 40mm (or 36mm for that matter) are fantastic and fun and are no poor relation to the modern references; try before you buy!!

      @@my5digithobby967 Very true, it would be different in person I'm sure. I wish I could try them both on. Unfortunately for me, Rolex no longer makes either one lol I appreciate your video and responses man.

    GMT lol

    • @my5digithobby967

      “GMT” is a term used to describe watches that feature a hand that indicates 24 hour time, originally so pilots could set it to Greenwich Meant Time, now known as UTC, and differentiate between AM and PM. Most modern GMTs like the 16570 also allow the user to independently set the local zone time, indicated by a standard 12-hour format display, but also operating as a 24-hour function that drives the date wheel forward at 12:00 AM.
