My childhood in the 70's would not have been the same without "Land of the Lost". The CGI was done well enough for our imaginations to grasp the concepts and the storyline drew us in. It was like my sister and I grew up with you guys as brother and sister and dreamed of future adventures like Marshall, Will and Holly had. Thank you. ❤
Back then, they were referred to as special effects. There was no such thing as CGI. They didn’t even have computers yet. CGI stands for computer graphics imagery, and it’s much more sophisticated than what they used which was stop motion using clay figures.
I'm 17 now but when I was younger, my dad had the DVD box set for all 3 seasons of The Land of The Lost. Great childhood memories! This interview was so wholesome to watch.
This show is beloved by just about all Gen-Xers, but what even we don't realize is how awesome this sci-fi was. When you look at the show's writers, it's basically a who's who of sci screenwriters and authors -- more than a few of the writers were alumni of Star Trek
Six Million Dollar Man for me. Nothing else even close in 1974/75. The Intro to that show still gives me goosebumps. But when all you had was 4 channels, as a kid, you were OBLIGATED to watch any "kids" show available 👍

Land of the lost was/is my favorite show. I grew up watching, and I still watch it on RUclips. I was born in 69, Gen X r, here. Growing up in the 70s, and 80s were awesome. Of course, the seventies was my early years, and my favorite. In the 70s we had the better TV shows, movies, and songs. The 70s ruled.
Having the pleasure of introducing my 2 year old Grandson to LotL Can't pronounce Dinosaur yet, so he's wide eyed at the screen Pointing and saying "Doonadah!" while hugging the 2001 Bandai Godzilla he's looted from my collection.. So adorable. :) My one lament with the show is there were never any Dinosaur Toys sold to go with the series. Wanted a toy Alice so bad... Was on my Christmas and Birthday lists for years.
Can't underestimate the fan base for this show. It's a mighty big cult following of wonderful people. LotL may have its flaws but as a children's Saturday morning TV show it was something special. Its writing would often have heady, engrossing themes and plot elements. I didn't care about the dinosaurs; I wanted the Sleestaks and the pylons and the crystals ... and all that mysterious and ominous stuff. Loved the old temple ruins and such. The Sleestaks did scare loads of youngsters who tuned in, including yours truly ... and we know that kids adore being scared sometimes. The reptilian looking villains were created by David Gerrold, who also wrote the Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles". Gerrold basically conjured up a lot of the story elements and plots for the series. It was his "baby". He is to be commended for his efforts. This wasn't merely some goofy silliness with mascot costumes and canned laughter. So it's kind of fascinating because we have a series that is considered by some to be the epitome of nostalgic cheese, but also at the same time it is revered and cherished deeply by many people of a certain age (myself included, being born in 1966 ... maybe the perfect age to watch LotL when I was eight). It was fun seeing Kathy and Wesley here enjoying some reminiscing. Although he mentions his soap five times during the conversation, LOL.
Good post. Says everything I wanted to say. 😀The only difference, I was in South Australia and born in 69. I was six in 76 when I first saw Land of the Lost. Ahhhh… the 70’s. Saturday mornings in the 70’s were the absolute best!!!! Nothing else I have seen since has matched it yet. Get up… get your bowl full of sugary cereal and sit in front of the tube for at least 4 hours or so😊❤️
I'm bummed that over thirteen years ago I actually saw these two at a Creations Star Trek Convention and did not register in my head that they were the stars of "Land of the Lost". That was a Saturday morning TV show I loved as a kid but had forgotten about at the time. So I did not stand in their autograph line to meet them and get some signed photos. Years later when I started seeing these You Tube videos that shows interviews... I remember "Land of the Lost" and those actors. Kicking myself a little now for that regret.
I still love that show all these years later. Cool part of the internet is being able to watch old shows that I loved as a kid from beginning to end in sequence. And if either of you were to walk by me I would recognize you both immediately.
Boy, I still remember my Saturday morning schedule back in '75 starting with 'The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour' followed by "Scooby Doo" on from 8:30--10:00 on CBS. Then, I'd flip over to NBC to watch "Land of the Lost' followed by 'Run Joe Run' from 10-11:00. Then back over to CBS for 'Valley of the Dinosaurs' followed by "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids' from 11-Noon. Great memories.
Marshall, Will and Holly... on a routine expedition, and the greatest earthquake ever known. ... High on the rapids it struck their tiny craft and plunged them down a thousand feet below. (Ahhhhh).... 😂😂
Met Kathy back in the mid 80s in Nevada when I was in my late teens, her last name was Bell back then. Had no idea she was "Holly" from LOTL. We met through band members that my friend and I use to hang out with. She was a sweetheart, very warm and personable, no pretense at all, just really down to Earth. From the first time meeting her and hanging out with her at her house I felt like I should know her, but couldn't figure out why. She only mentioned that she had done some acting in the past, nothing else. One time at her place we were looking through some of her photo albums, with normal kinds of stuff in them, then all the sudden there are back yard BBQ pics with famous people in the background of the shots like John Travolta, Adam Rich (8 Is Enough) and a bunch of other people. Then there are set photographs, and characters from LOTL... then Kathy (sitting next to me) says to me "that's me... I was Holly". WHAT??? That's why she seemed so familiar! I grew up watching LOTL. It was surreal, suddenly I'm sitting shoulder to shoulder with "Holly" - and everything I'd been trying to figure out about her finally made sense. She had so many great photos of that time of her life and after. Adam Rich called one time we were there and was thinking about flying out but had to cancel. It was strange, but then again it wasn't. It just was. We really only hung out for a summer, we swam at her house, partied, and occasionally ran into each other at other events. I dated her sister Colleen for a short time... hung out a few more times, one of my best friends who was a band member was killed in a motorcycle accident, we saw Kathy at the funeral and then after that, just lost track of her. It will always be a good memory meeting her and getting to know her - she really is a good person, I wish her the very best.
Having been a big fan of the show when it aired on Saturday mornings, I picked up the series on DVD and re-watched it again a few years back. To my surprise, "Land Of The Lost" holds up really well. I was surprised how smart that a lot of the stories were and things like references back to earlier stories... which I don't recall a lot of other Saturday morning programs having back then. Then I realized that I recognized a number of the names of the show's writers from "Star Trek" and then I realized that I had learned the reason why LOTL still holds up that well. Nice to see that the old show still has it's fans!
