  • The addition of a fuel gauge sending unit into a fuel tank not ever equipped with one. Locating and drilling the hole in the tank, removing the fuel tank, installing threads in the tank, inspecting for debris in the tank, cleaning and final inspection.

I fitted one of those sender units in my CFM Shadow and it works great, no calibration and seems to be accurate (you have to get one that is the correct length obviously)

Many years ago I restored a 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. The gas tank leaked and was rusting out so I replaced it with one from an MG Midget which, tank wise, was an exact fit. The gas gauge did not work and I rebuilt the original gauge. It worked, but when it said "empty" you were really, really empty and you were either at a gas pump filling up or walking to the nearest station. Ask me how I know. 😄

Absolutely, those classic cars! Your comment brought back some old memories for me. My late wife had a 85 Lebaron convertible with a terribly inaccurate gas gauge. When the low fuel light did come on it was good for about 5 kilometres more.

Where did you get this gauge kit? Does it require 12V power? How do you calibrate?

The kit is from an extremely popular online retailer. It does need 12 volts to operate. It appears to be calibrated as purchased. I will video the operation and calibration as I fill the fuel tank in a future video.

can running without a voltage regulator damage the ducatti cdi? thought they only worked on the lighting circuit but skidoo says don't do it

The dual ignition charging coils are completely separate from the battery charging coils. The charging coils still produce significant ac voltage when not connected to a regulator.

How would I go about adding a fuel gauge to duals tank set up

Two sender units using one panel gauge can be done with the correct switch. I used an electric guitar toggle switch for three coolant temperature sensors to one gauge. You’ve given me an idea for another video.
